This is a gem in the heart of Old Town Prague, and offers some of the best craft cocktails in the world. We were pleasantly surprised by the elegant environment and the live piano and saxophone. The bartenders are experts at their craft, and many herbs and infusions are hidden throughout the bar. I told the bartender that I loved Manhattans, and asked him to please make me a Czech cocktail that he thought I would enjoy. I absolutely loved watching him prepare an amazing concoction that was based with Hammer Head whiskey(Czech’s finest), and finished off with a variety of infusions with no labels, but all were meticulously measured in jiggers and added to the mix. The icing on top was that he carefully strained the liquid into a small green glass flask and managed to also fill a tear-drop shaped up-glass with the exact amount to leave a meniscus. But it didn’t stop there, he filled a large clear glass beaker with large cubes of ice and then buried a stick of dry ice into the beaker and filled it half way with water so that the fog started to roll over the edges. He then slid the green glass flask into the beaker to keep it chilled, placed the tear-drop up-glass on a mini bread board and add a small piece of toast with spread. I thoroughly enjoyed nibbling on the toast, relished the cocktail, and refilled the glass from the flask about 4 times until all of the precious liquid was drained. It was quite an experience, to say the least. I asked the bartender for the name of the cocktail: Bohemian Manhattan If you find yourself in Prague, you must try one!

In a very touristy part of town, I was, however, glad to find this gem below a restaurant, tucked away downstairs. The drink menu is beyond anything I’ve ever seen. The drinks were outstanding and so cheap! I did get scolded for taking a picture, though, which made me uncomfortable.

Came here last night with some friends, sat at the bar, and was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the downstairs area was. We were surrounded by brick walls, chandeliers above us, and even a gigantic ship model hanging from the ceiling nearby. And to make things even better, the house cocktails were delicious and served up by a very entertaining bartender! Will definitely make it back here if I return to Prague!

Black Angel’s bar in an absolute gem located right in the heart of Prague. This bar has somewhat of an old school vibe to it that really sets it apart from the rest. As you enter through a hotel, your expectations are actually quite low but once you get inside of this beautifully decorated brick and mortar you begin to understand its appeal. The service is solid and the bartenders actually product fantastic cocktails and they do it with a substantial amount of flair. There is often a live pianist to further broaden the ambiance. Overall, this place is a fantastic bar that makes exceptional cocktails. Pros– Location Bartenders Pianist Overall ambiance Functional layout Nicely priced Stiff drinks Great selection at the bar Cons– Cigarette smoking everywhere Can get extremely loud Tough to have a conversation

The Quick: Although a newer bar created to look like a hidden old gem, it’s absolutely gorgeous and the drinks are phenomenal. There was a piano player taking suggestions, and the ceiling and chandeliers were just beautiful. Although it can seem semi touristy from the outside or first floor, the underground bar was lovely. Perfect for a night cap.

Amazing mixologists like I’ve never seen in the States. The bartenders here take their craft seriously and love their creations. The drink menu reads like a library of love!

Imagine; 13 women on a hens-do walking into a Bar after an afternoon of drinking about 14 bottles of prosecco and an evening of drinking Spritz and finally mixed drinks to now completely mix up our balance with some shots which were clearly missing from the night. Ok so are you with me? Cause its kind of a miracle that I even remember this day/night. Now imagine all that knowing that these women are dressed to impress and they just walked into this bar! A place where saints come to sin. Where there is no room for prudence. Where you are really taken into the cave of a black angel and they set the bar on fire. And then after a while these women just have to dance. But where? well they head for the tables and dance and dance on all the rock music which passes by, cause ooh yeah… in case this wasn’t clear this is a rock bar. You can imagine that these good girls were transformed into black angels before the night was out. Now considering my R&B, Wicked Jazz sounds, HipHop Latin personality its a good thing I am a super open minded person :). Then again I secretly do love myself some rock as long as it isn’t Ramstein. And here they had the perfect combination of hard and soft rock, popular rock vs the stuff I had never heard of. so I danced the night away in my heels and little black dress and never not for one moment felt out of place, because no one cared. The best thing about this bar is: Everyone is just out for a good time and no one cares about who is who. The bar show is awesome, but beware it gets very hot Music is brilliant even if you are not into rock a little less pleasant: around 1am it gets super busy so stay on the table would be my advise in Prague you are still allowed to smoke in bars and since this place is in a cellar it gets a bit hard to breath after a while. Overall I would go back cause I know I will have a great time.

We went here twice, once as a couple and again as a party of four. It’s quite the international crowd, but the key to a five star experience is to sit at the bar. If you’re escorted to a table by the fish tanks, you’re not near the bar. Sit like you’re going to stay, then ask after about 5 minutes if you can sit near the bar. Tell them you’ll wait, because if you’re sitting away from the bar, you’ll be waiting a long time for your drink anyway and you’ll miss the show. This is a speakeasy type vibe, candlelight, dark wood, exposed brick. No photos are allowed, which is in line with the vibe of a speakeasy. Respect this and you’ll have a great time. The bartenders are certified mixologists, meaning you can tell them a liquor or a flavor you like and they can make you a one of a kind drinkable art-piece. They enjoy being creative. The best part of being at the bar is watching them make the drink(this may also be why it takes so long to get to tables). They have fun making the drink, sashaying and stirring and jiving, flipping cups, glasses, creating optical illusions with the liquid gold. It’s really a performance. The pianist(s) really add to the speakeasy vibe. American classics from decades long gone as well as top 40 songs you can help but sing along to. Czechs have a reputation for being standoffish, grumpy or flat out rude. There’s a saying that goes«don’t judge something abroad by the standards you use at home.» Accept that Czechs are brief and to the point and you’ll enjoy your stay in the city. Have a great time! Cheers mate.

We loved this bar! Great atmosphere in an underground cellar type of surrounding. The piano player was a nice touch(and for those of you musically inclined, you’ll enjoy his playing — nice renditions of everything from Dave Brubeck to Private Dancer(haha) with impressive transitions in between). We stayed for cocktail after cocktail… ranging from their take on an old fashioned with a cool diamond ice cube to a nice cocktail featuring absinthe called«the corpse reviver» to a really gingery moscow mule. It is the kind of place where you can say«I want a sweet/sour rum based cocktail» and they surprise you with something. One drink was served in a teacup, another in a tiki cup… I can’t really drink alcohol right now(only sampled friends’ drinks) so I actually requested a couple of «mix something for me» non alcoholic drinks, which were both fantastic. You can order food, which comes from the restaurant upstairs. I had the mushroom risotto which was pretty tasty — but given prices in Prague, it felt overpriced(~$ 10) for a fairly small portion.

One of my favourite bars for ambience in all of Czech Republic. It’s located in the main tourist area of Old Town, but once you enter the hotel and head downstairs, they do an amazing job of letting time stop — and have carefully crafted top notch cocktails and pour a nice absinthe from a drip device. It’s all about presentation and they always been consistent. I live in Santa Monica, CA so I have decent standards and this is a great spot. Been here 3 times.

Again, I am not a cocktail guy, so that colours my perceptions a bit. The interior is, frankly, gorgeous and the atmosphere is fantastic. The drinks are… well, they are certainly expensive enough. Some of the concoctions are quite good, but I couldn’t help but think they were trying just a little too hard to be «original» — concept seemed to trump taste and practicality in a few of their drinks. Am I glad this place exists? Yes. Would I make a special trip? Probably not. Would I take a friend who was jonesing for a cocktail and we weren’t far away? Absolutely. But I’d hit a bank machine first.

I was a bit underwhelmed by this place to be honest. They were saying it was one of the best bars in the world and had great drinks, but I didn’t see it. The place itself is cool, it is worth having a drink at to see, located underground you feel like you are someplace else, not next to old town square. When I stopped in here though, we were lead to a table in the back and the place lacked any energy. The drinks, although they were good, took forever to order and then to receive. Had we not just been sitting there, in what seemed like a side room alone it may have been a little better. I prefer Anonymous Bar or Hemingway to this place though.

Being from Southern CA(where you have craft cocktails everywhere you look) the cocktails themselves were just fine. Fairly standard for what you would imagine you would find in a tourist zone. Lots of options and there is certainly something for everyone so nothing to complain about! My 5 star review is for the ambiance. I enjoyed the cozy, dark, upscale, cavernous feel. The live piano music was a plus! The space was definitely small but we had no issue getting a seat and in the hour and a half we were there everyone that came in was able to get a seat.

I’ll admit it, I walked in here with a chip on my shoulder and fully prepared to be disappointed. I talked some trash before heading down the stairs and declared that there is no way this place could be anywhere near the same level of what we’ve become accustomed to in the states. Well, bartender, I’ll take the crow. The location is a bit funny for this bar. It’s in the thick of all the tourist action, but oddly enough was not overrun by tourists either of the times that we payed this place a visit. It feels like it should be hidden on the outskirts of the city as the best kept secret that only locals should know, but thankfully for us, it’s easily located and my favorite bar in all of Prague. The cocktails were insane. Truly insane. Even though the cocktail book is thick and extensive, I don’t even know what I was ordering since I simply played dealer’s choice and gave him free reign to get me loopy on whatever he concocted. The process, the presentation, the attention to detail, the flavors and the prices are all on point here. Seriously, not a single drink missed and I ran the gamut with everything from whiskey to absinthe. I think my willingness to be open to anything at Black Angel’s really pleased the bartender and broke him out of his routine a little bit — seemed like someone was asking him to make a Moscow mule every few minutes. There was some hesitation at first but once he realized when I said«go ahead, anything,» I really meant anything. The result was a few glasses of brilliance able to stand their ground in any great cocktail city. Yeah, I saw the clock and the bridge in Prague but that’s not bringing me back — it’s this bar.

One of the coolest cocktail bars I’ve ever been in the world. It is underground and has a nautical(pirate maybe?) theme but it isn’t tacky. There’s a piano player and a lot of cool nooks to this joint. It’s lively and they serve up excellent hand crafted cocktails. You can tell they really care about their drinks and it shows. The side car comes with a «side car» drink alongside the main drink. Pretty smart! Service is attentive and friendly without being overbearing.

I agree with other reviews. One of the best cocktail bars I’ve been in the world. It’s situated in the basement with interesting yet artistic ambiance and decoration. Feel comfortable and casual yet intimate and posh. Drinks are excellent. Cocktail menu is in Czech but you let the bartender or sever know what type of drinks you like, they will bring you something to blow your mind. Vodka sour was excellent by the way. Very attentive service and so reasonably priced(all handcraft cocktails are around $ 6). Must visit if you want excellent cocktail! PS: don’t just walk down to the bar. There is a hostess at the entrance to the bar. She will take you to a good seat but if you try to bypass her, she will be upset.

With beer freely flowing like the Vtlava river, it didn’t even occur to me about having proper cocktails in Prague. Until Black Angel’s Bar. The location is touristy as heck, but the crowd is very international. Down in the rock-cave basement of Hotel U Prince, this bar is sexy, sexy, sexy! The ingredients are all top notch: fresh squeezed juices, home made bitters and high quality booze. Since we’re in Prague, I can live like a queen here. About $ 6 for a cocktail which I would normally pay $ 12 in San Francisco? game on, liver! We were able to sample all the sections of the menu: newly minted in English in a handsome leather bound book. In the mood for cognac? the East India cocktail is the perfect opener, then follow it up with a sidecar, which of course, comes with a sidecar.(don’t you love getting 2 drinks for the price of one?) Whiskey lovers wil feel luxurious holding an exquisite crystal glass. The sazerac is a MUST order. It comes with an absinthe ice ball that changes the taste of the cocktail while it melts. I mean, how ingenious is that? Do I also need to mention the phenomenal piano player who was playing old school rock and even some Elvis tunes? Everyone recognized«Don’t Stop Believin» while he was tapping away at those slim white piano keys. Bravo maestro! Thank you Black Angels for resurrecting the cocktailian in me. Vesper actually had a Vesper in Prague! Well, how was it? very heavenly! ;-)

When Petra recommends the best bar in all of Prague, do not hesitate. Go there now and stay all night. Heaven in Prague, away from tourists, heat, crowds, everything. Head two floors down in to the earth in Old Town Square. This is it. Accept no substitute.
