View — 10 stars Everything else — 3 and below Nic’s Unilocal math = 4 star average Once upon a time(eight years ago… gosh, does time fly!) I was touring my friend around Praha. We went up to the top of Orloj and spotted an incredible rooftop. We decided to go there after we got down, but that wasn’t so easy. Hotel U Prince does a really nice job of NOT advertising the rooftop. They’ve gotten a bit better, but it’s still easy to miss and even easier to not have a clue it exists. With enough asking, you can sniff it out. You enter through the hotel doors, go up an elevator and a flight of stairs, and then you’ll finally make it to the terrace. As others have unfortunately mentioned, the service staff are god awful. Being a Czech, this absolutely pains me. My mom was completely embarrassed; I ignored it for the photo opps. Many moons ago, I shared a couple cocktails with my friend on a frigid winter night. The heat lamps did a fantastic job, and we had the terrace to ourselves because A) it really was cold, and B) the place was damn near impossible to find. This time, my mom and I shared a tiramisu with an espresso and cappuccino. The tiramisu was brilliant. It is served in a large martini glass, and you can taste the liqueur. It’s well-made and flavorful. Even I enjoyed it, and I’m not a fan of cakes and sweets. The coffee was good, and the prices of everything were triple what you’ll pay anywhere else in Praha, and probably 10x the rest of the country. The view is worth it. There is something to see in every direction — the Prague Castle, Orloj, Old Town Square, the Church of Our Lady before Týn, Christmas markets in winter… It’s amazing. If you’re a photographer, you will die of happiness.

This restaurant is geared towards tourists wandering the square, but don’t let negative reviews scare you off. Yes, service can be a bit abrupt but I attributed this to cultural differences rather than rudeness. We sat outside where heaters drove off the cool air and lap blankets were provided(we didn’t need them). Food came out quick and hot, and the staff was very accommodating to a substitution with my meal. The food was excellent. I had the wiener schnitzel and swapped mashed potatoes for the potato salad it is usually served with(best decision I’ve ever made). My companion had roast pork with dumplings and the sauce was divine. The prices were reasonable. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone who feels that familiar rumbling while watching the astronomical clock and I’d definitely dine here again.

Very inappropriate rude staff. I visited this place to go to their rooftop terrace bar/restaurant. I came without a booking, the entire terrace was empty and I got a whole snobby ‘have you booked, have you booked? You just want a beer??’ I sat down and ordered, saw the dirty looks and the negative sounding mumbling in my direction. I got up and left without a word as they brought the beer. Shove it, frankly. REALLY inappropriate behaviour, only new money riff raff think that rudeness is expected in posh or high end establishments. It’s a complete mistake, they’re supposed to be pleasant, courteous and hospitable. They were snotty, rude, unwelcoming. I’ll never go here again. A delusional spot for delusional types.

We was at the roof restaurant. And it was ok. A little bit expensive and the waiters are unfriendly, but the view is great

HANDSDOWNMOSTGORGEOUSRESTAURANT! I mean come on! Dining with views of the Prague Castle nearby, Old Town Square. It’s a restaurant fit for a Princess! My sister and I came here to get some lunch after a long day of sightseeing. We ordered paella and pasta which were both super delicious! This was also the first place I ever tried a Cosmopolitan!(UFC if you’re a «Sex and the City» fan!) The dining experience was so unreal! This restaurant is pretty expensive though. I wouldn’t come here if you’re doing budget travel.

Truly disappointed in the staff. We have a wonderful 2 story suite, yet the staff couldn’t figure out if I met the«dress code» to go to the bar. I stayed at the Hotel Grand Bohemia for two days prior to this(before going to, and coming back from, Vienna), and I can attest that it’s a far better hotel than this. You are treated better, and the rooms are more elegant.

Cold over cooked steak which was meant to be medium rare came more like medium to well done. For the price of the steak its poor attempt. Will be trying somewhere else tomorrow. Burgers came luke warm as the device took forever. Not great for such a impressive looking restaurant and well position but the chips where of a quality I’d see in Mc D’s.

It does have a great view around the city on the rooftop. We don’t have much time to go anywhere. We order some food for lunch. Not quite impress with the food and the server. I will go to the church tower to take pics next time.

Had lunch on the roof top. The food was great and the view is simply spectacular. They claim that they are in best top 15 roof tops in the world, and I would agree in many ways — the city, the view, the food, the treatment, the price and presentation. It feels elite to be there for a meal I would suggest, if you are in Prague and have a bit of extra $$$$ please visit. If not for a meal, coffee or drinks at least.

This place has rude staff, watered down drinks and the view isn’t even that great. Add in the fact that the owner had my honest review removed, and this place sucks. Shame on Unilocal for removing my review about a business that didn’t have change and insulted me because I only had bills. Truth hurts, I guess. If you want to be treated like crap and have shitty drinks, go here. Have some integrity, Unilocal. And Petr, somebody giving me the equivalent of a 1.40 Canadian after he scoffed, and insulted me is not a praiseworthy action. The audacity to even mention that tells me why the place sucks and explains the staff’s poor attitude. Maybe if the place was better organized you wouldn’t have people calling your rude staff, losers.

Excellent restaurant.

There are a lot of different parts to this hotel. The most obvious one is the café downstairs. We ate lunch here one day. Wow, I’m disappointed in how the gouge their patrons. The prices were expensive but the location was prime, so I get that. Then, they automatically place bread on your table without asking, so of course we thought it was complimentary. Then, when you get your bill, there is a charge per person. I asked the server what it was for and he said it was for the bread and condiments. Really? I checked the menu and didn’t see that on there, and we were never asked if we wanted the bread. The weiner schnitzel was ok and the Spaghetti carbonara was pretty good but both were very expensive. Both meals were a good sized portions. Yes, the location is great. The service is mediocre(having to wave down servers), but I really an disappointed that they aren’t honest about their charges. We spent 5 days in Prague and never found another restaurant that had a charge like that, so it isn’t a «typical» Prague/Czech charge.

The best scenic restaurant in Prague over looking views of many of the highlights. However, food was terrible. Customer service was even worse. The ravioli soup was not fresh. They were old and hard. The filet steak was just ok. The hot tea came and it was not so hot. When we asked what type of wine was sold by the glass we were told red. Asked again what kind of Red? Answer: the red kind. Asked for blankets because of the freezing cold weather. Heaters did not work and asked them to light it back up. Overall, the view is the best part of this place. Skip dinner and go just for the beer.

Hotel U Prince is an elegant hotel on Stare Mesto with a café downstairs and a romantic restaurant on the roof. I didn’t stay in the hotel and I ate the café four years ago but I recently dined on the terrace. The terrace is a magical place, especially at night, although the food is OK, I would only go there for the view on the roof but not sure if the 400CZK entrees are worth it. The only real Czech dish on the menu was the wild boar with rose hip sauce, which I am sure was something Charles the 4th was eating. They have Staropramen on draft for 90CZK which is double what you would pay anywhere else in Prague.

Here’s an insider tip. On the rooftop of this hotel is a secret hideout called Café U Prince. It offers a relaxing enclave with pretty good views of astronomical clock and old town square. Bring your zoom camera, sip your cool cocktail in the shade as hapless tourists packed like sardines at the square sweat it out waiting for this clock to strike and deliver the chime and visual show, that is rated as among the«top 3 worst attractions» of Europe(to which I vehemently disagree). I love the clock though, and got a kick out of watching not just the clock, but virtually everyone in that sweaty crowd go: «that’s it?!?». Hilarious. I love Prague and smile whenever I think about that old town square and this rooftop café and it’s gorgeous rooftop view of the rest of the city.

When it comes to this hotel and its restaurants, it is kind of difficult to allocate just one rating to it. If you go to the restaurant that is downstairs and you either sit outside or inside, it is(in my opinion) a rip off with poor food and service and except for the location there are no positives. What I truly love is the terrace upstairs. The menu that they have is not super creative and the food is not of any fine-dining quality but is kind of ok and if you state your preferences clearly, they are even willing to accommodate your special wishes. What is, however, absolutely stunning are the views from the terrace. No matter how many times I have been to this place as a local, I always feel amazed by the beauty of our city and all my friends whom I always take here when they come from aboard loved it here. Regardless of whether they came from America, Asia or Africa, every single friend of mine fell in love with the terrace and ended up running there, catching the perfect shots. So, if you want to show the beauties of Prague to your friends or you just feel like enjoying them yourself on a sunny day, this is the place to go to. Do not expect any great service as service and kitchen are not the major selling aspects of this place :)… At nigh you should, however, definitely try out their bar in the cellar — its stunning! That’s a five start bar for me!

This review is for the restaurant downstairs.(Not the rooftop terrace or the actual hotel) Pros: + Large Variety of Food — they’ve got a picture menu in six languages which really helps if you’re not sure what you are going to order. I highly recommend the Coq au vin. Several vegetarian dishes. + Great Location — overlooks the Astronomical tower. Lots of people watching Cons: — Touristy — staff is not as attentive as it would be in other areas around Prague, crowds, etc. the usual deal with dining in a super touristy area. — Layout — Our table was right on the border of a platform that the entire restaurant is based on. There isn’t much room to walk to and from your table — Lighting — it kept going out towards the end of our dinner, could give a little headache All in all, a decent stop if you’re in Old Town Square, but not a place I would seek out intentionally.

I went to the restaurant outside because of the great location. They have only a few by-the-glass wine options, which was fine. The food was good, but the service was lacking. The original server I had was nice but spoke little English making ordering kind of a pointing game. Also didn’t bother me as much as the female manager. I travel alone and they seem to frown on solo travelers taking up space on their patio. I sat at a table for two anyway. My table had a piece of wood underneath that was shaky and every time someone walked by, my drink spilled a bit. After 30 minutes of being spilled on, I asked to change tables and the female manager said they only had tables for four. This was a half empty patio… really? She re-seated me with a table that had four people at it and two extra seats so I had to sit uncomfortably close to people I didn’t know, which would also be fine except she then hit my elbow so hard when she walked by that she spilled my drink again. Really?! I finally just laughed, out loud, she then turned and said, «excuse me», before walking away. No smile, no sincerity, uncouth professionalism. I won’t b recommending this place and I will suggest my hotel do the same. It’s hard but one rude staff member can make or break a customer experience.

On the 5th floor at the Hotel U Prince, you will find their restaurant, also known as The Terrace. Here you will find a good view of Old Town, Prague Castle, and surroundings. That day was quite an experience. We are enjoying the view, ordered our food… As soon as we’re served, I feel a thing hit my head, it was a seat cushion that flew on me. Black clouds and terribly strong winds almost blew away the terrace cover. Everyone was rushed downstairs, just in time. As soon as we got inside«all hell broke loose»… heavy rain, and hail came pouring down. We all had to carry our own plates, drinks, everything, while the staff, and, some of the men eating there, held everything else from blowing away. You know it’s bad when even the staff looked concerned, and doesn’t do anything to hide it from their guest. But, thankfully, no one got hurt and, like I said, it was an experience. Servers worked quickly downstairs to accommodate us. They improvised a table inside for us, and another for the other couple that was still there(everyone else went to the bar). They apologized for the inconvenience and we resumed our dinner. I ordered the Chicken Stir Fry. Plates here are not big, but I was satisfied with mine. Chicken, peppers, mushrooms, and some seeds. The prongs with boiled potatoes were good too, and you can choose between 6 or 12 prongs. The Chicken plate with vegetables, was another winner. If you’re very hungry, avoid the caprese salad. This was all lettuce, 3 mini cherry tomatoes, and about 2 mini mozzarella, and a lot of onions. Those in our party who ate it said it was good but definitely not enough. For drinks you have a wide variety to choose from: frozen drinks, cocktails, Martinis, shots, coffee drinks, and non– alcoholic mixes like the Coconut Dream which I was told was delicious. I had the Tiger Milk: kaluha, dark rum, crème the cacao, and cream, served in a mini martini glass with mint leaves. Not too sweet, so it was perfect for me. Since portions weren’t big, and we couldn’t go out because of the rain, we ordered dessert. Tiramisu was served in a Martini glass — very pretty, Crème Brûlée was big enough for two, although so good you might not want to share, and the Strawberries with Mascarpone was light, fresh, just perfect. After the long walks around ‘Old Town’ this is the place to go to relax, enjoy the view, and some good food and drinks. Just check the skies before you go upstairs, remember, if it looks like rain, stay away, unless you want a story to tell, like me.

Overpriced and rude wait staff. 118CZK for a soft drink served at the covered tables out front. They added on service charge too. I know in Ireland you can have a service charge that is automatically added to the bill removed if you think the service does not deserve it. I was not sure if I could do this in the Czech republic and couldn’t be bothered looking it up. So we reluctantly paid and left scowling at the wait staff. They obviously get this a lot, as the first thing out of the waiters mouth when we question the prices was«I only work here». Now in fairness I am not overly surprised this happened, the place is practically on Wenceslas Square. Lesson learned.

The main square in Prague is a haven for tourists. I mean its packed really packed. We were walking through on our holidays and noticed the skies begin to blacken. What to do we asked ourselves! Oh look a bar/restaurant attached to a hotel. Lets have a rest have a drink and see if the rain blows over. We sat down found our seats, not a bad arrangement. Ordered a coke each. Mine was warm and flat. But hey ho its only one drink. Who cares we can move on. I wont even complain. So the rain stopped asked for the bill, it came to the table. 118cz for a coke. Surely a mistake, this is the CZ Republic food and drink are cheap here. The most I had paid for a drink so far was 50cz and that shocked me. The cheapest 19cz. «Excuse me waiter, is this bill correct» I inquired. «I only work here he replied and threw the price list open in front of me then walked off» Oh ok, well here’s my hard earned money for a coke for 4euro 20c which was warm and flat. Oh and you wont be seeing me again. Seriously get a grip. Poor service, Poor goods and vastly overpriced even for the main square. This is a hotel resting on its good fortune to be located where it is. Avoid at all costs, 10 meters towards the river and its half the price at least.

Service: 0 Punkte Ambiente: 5 Punkte Macht zusammen also drei
