At first I thought it would be the type of restaurant that focuses on tourists — you know — the one that cooks overpriced«Czech specialities». But I was really pleasantly surprised when I found it was actually quite a good restaurant. A great waiter wearing a white shirt and a bow. The meals I got were rather good as well and the price was reasonable. I can only recommend.

Spectacular for what it is: a great cheap place for tourists who want authentic Czech food. Was recommended to our party by our AirBnB host. We were hungry and luckily Novomestsky was located right across the street. Ordered their dark bear, meat in sauce with bread dumplings and goulash = € 16. I licked the plate clean. My first eat in Praha tasted great, but then again, WTF do I know…

F*ucking disgusting food, terrible service. It’s All about getting money from tourists./ příšerné jidlo, hrozny servis. WTF?!

The beer is excellent, the food is pretty good and the service is lousy. I was actually told by one waiter that they didn’t want locals — only tourists. Weird attitude for a brewery in the capital of a country known for its beer. I pop in once in a while, weathering the glares and studied indifference of the wait staff, because the beer is so good. Basically, give it a try and then decide if the beer is worth the hassle. It usually isn’t for me, but every once in a while it is.

Definitely a place for tourists. If you care about food or atmosphere go elsewhere. The beer is ok, but the food is terrible. In the US we have a restaurant called The Cracker Barrel, it’s terrible and tacky, so is this restaurant. Skip it. Go anywhere else. Heck you could even buy meat on the street and do better.

Came here to try a local brew. The beer was pretty good, I think they had a light and a dark beer and they were wheat beers if I remember correctly. They were both pretty good, quite different than the regular pilsners you get here in Prague. I ate the goulash for my meal. It was pretty good, definitely a nice cold weather and beer drinking dish. I ate a tiramisu for dessert, it was very good. The scenery is pretty nice, it looks like an old European brewery in there. All and all, it was a good meal with some good beer. Nothing fantastic, but a decent stop, especially if your trying to grab a beer before noon.

A little hard to find, but a friendly stranger pointed us in the right direction and gave us a hint. Your paper placemat it also a self guided tour through the restaurant. The garlic soup was so good. And we got a big plate with lots of different dishes to share. Good beers too, of course.

PRAGA Y CERVEZA!!!

So, we were in a hurry to find a last minute place to eat before heading to a ballet. Of course I jump on Unilocal to see about nearby food options. This place had decent reviews, was close, and has the requisite Czech food. On first glance the place is a bit iffy. It is right off the main square down a little alley way and you immediately get the feeling you are being led into a tourist trap. Once inside the décor is alright(Bavarian shabby chic, copper beer vats and all), if not a bit cramped for seating. We were sat immediately and given an English menu, which was helpful. I started getting more suspicious when I noticed one of those Prague walking tours meeting up inside. That always gives me the feeling I am in some sort of gimmicky place. Things went downhill a bit with the service. Even though it was a weekday, it was early(6pm), and the place was pretty empty, we felt really rushed. There were no niceties or even politeness. I could barely make eye contact with our server. This must be what constant contact with tourists does to you. Anyhow, we ordered beer, which was decent, but not great. Oddly, our food came out fast. Like, really fast. Probably within 5 minutes of ordering. Seemed fast, but OK. The food. Its OK, I guess? I mean, Im not Czech, so how do I know what five types of bread dumpling are supposed to taste like? Like I said, it was OK, it was just missing that special quality that made it great. A lack of love or care? Anyway, we soldiered on, devouring out goulash and pork filet. Unfortunately, the last few bites were whisked away(without asking) by our jumpy, overly-attentive waiter. Upon leaving we felt just a little let down. I guess we had had a decent meal and beer, but we just felt a bit dirty. Like we had mistakenly fallen for some tourist gimmick. The rushed service sure didnt help either. I give this place an ‘eh’.

The dark beer was pretty good and one of my favorites in Prague. It was nice that there was an English menu so made ordering easy but I knew what I wanted before even arrive thanks to Unilocal.I went with the pork knuckle. It was big and had great flavor. Thanks for the good find in Prague Unilocal

I’ve been coming here for 20 years. When I come to Prague there is one dish I want, koleno(pork knee). I’ve searched for better, but always come back here. For my taste, best in Prague. Also my wife loves the svickova.

run, overpriced disgusting food and awful beer. the only fun is trying to find toilets(remember, where they are, you gonna need them) . hnusné jídlo a pití zaručí spurt na záchod, takže se, pokud se sem odvážíte a máte zbytečné prachy na spláchnutí, nejdřív dobře rozhlédněte, kde jsou.

Good beer and food, but nothing spectacular. The thing that really stands out is the décor. The menu has good options, and for those of you who are American like me there’s even an English menu. The servers will typically bring that to you once they know you speak English. I though Americans put a lot of food on plates, but so do Czechs! I ordered(what I thought were) two small plates but it ended up being enough food for both my husband and me. Suggestion– take a look around at what other people have ordered, if you see something that looks good then ask your server what it is. You don’t want to waste food and/or end up spending extra money on two meals when you could’ve split one meal for two people.

Has to be 100 places better than this joint but it’s not necessarily bad. Just a crappy location really if this place was on the river with a view it wouldn’t be so dreary but it’s down a dark hall in an ugly part of town. I feel like I’m 100 ft underground here. Beer is no better or worse than most places, got the roasted pig knuckles which were fine but oddly it was brought to my table literally within 90 seconds of ordering it. Seems like the mcdonalds of beer halls here. Skip.

Great czech food and even better beer. The food was great, but the atmosphere and beer are what this place special. The place is a maze of ever deeper-descending barrel-vault brick walled cellar rooms which have been well renovated with beer brewing regalia. The beer is outstanding, brewed on-site. It’s unpastuerized, unfiltered with live yeast(full of vitamin Bs) still in suspension! Yum. I prefered the dark to the light lager, for it had the most character of the two. It obviously caters to tourists. I heard the staff speak at least 6 languages to customers, but luckily it’s kept the rustic atmosphere. Overall, this place is a must for getting to know fresh Czech beer.

The beer is really good, as you’d expect in Prague, but I have a feeling that they’re not that friendly to you if you don’t order food — we just stopped in for a quick beer and our waiter was somewhat brusque! Having said that, it’s definitely worth a look as it’s easy to get to, very spacious inside and, well, did I mention the beer? They also get points for having self-service pretzel trees and maps showing you how to get around the restaurant — it really is that big!

A maze of rooms. Each one laden with the smell of meat cooking and beer brewing. The staff are friendly and when the place is full there can be a wait but it is well worth it. The food is very good. I enjoyed the ‘knee of pork’, the ubiquitous Goulash and of course the beer. I have been here on every visit to Prague and recommend it. Not for vegetarians though !
