This was an incredible sushi experience — one of the best of my life, hands down. Our favorites were the seared jalapeño maki and flying dragon roll but everything was awesome. The yellowtail truffle maki was another highlight — truffles! The sashimi was incredible and so fresh as well. The waitress was adorable to boot and the service great. I will be coming back weekly. Thank you!

This place is so overrated. Most disappointing is the uni I ordered. It smelled bad and had white layer on it. They made me a new one but I mean, it’s probably the same batch of uni. I also ordered cold tempura soba which looked amazing but tasted just as disappointing. The soba sauce was super sweet and it’s not supposed to be. The maki rolls were ok hence the 2 stars. Foi gras was good though, no arguing with that. But it’s foi gras.

Everything I’ve tried from here is awesome. Great quality in their fish. Their special makis are so delicious, tons of unique flavor combos.

I like the avocado ball and the sweet eel is really good, with the sweet potato inside.

Fish Market was our regular sushi place when we lived in Allston. It’s small in size so arrive early to guarantee a table, but that is absolutely the only fault in this restaurant(and it’s barely even a fault). The sushi is soft, the fish delicious and the portions big enough to fill you. The Avocado Ball is also very tasty and really fun to order but not entirely worth $ 13 for such a small portion. Delivery is relatively quick, good for cozy nights in.

I ordered the spicy crispy tuna maki since it seemed like a hit on Unilocal, salmon sashimi and the steamed shumai. I ordered it for pickup. Service was friendly and you can tell they know what they’re doing. When you walk in, it’s a small space but not necessarily one of the hole in the wall sushi spaces — it’s quite nice to sit down and eat. I would come back. Everything as good.

Great sushi. Great to go service. The inside is typical tiny sushi place. Everything was great just not ready to give it 5 stars.

Food: 3.5÷5.0 Service: 3.5÷5.0 Value: 3.0÷5.0 Décor: 3.5÷5.0 Overall: 3.5÷5.0 I’m not that big on sushi(usually avoid the stuff) and am a really hard grader(ignore the fact that the only other sushi shop I’ve reviewed thus far was a 4.5÷5.0). Fish Market was actually pretty good in my mind but not enough to make me want to eat more sushi. Aside from the avocado ball. That, I would like to have again. Those from certain large cities would probably view this as an ok-but-not-amazing spot. But if you like sushi and are stuck in Boston, I supposed you would be happy that this place exists.

Quality and taste of food here is great. The Avocado Ball had a nice presentation and mild flavors which was delicious. The Takoyaki octopus fritters came out the kitchen smokin hot. The texture was a delightful crispy outside and smooth inside. The sauce was nice and tangy. The purple sweet potato fries, which were part of the special menu on the chalkboard, were crispy and tasty. Also very hot when served. The sashimi is a nice thick cut, and the special maki were all very good. I do feel that the price is a bit high for the portion size. There were six of us, and came out to be about $ 30 each, which isn’t a bad price considering dinner. But I left a bit hungry. And for $ 30, one can have all-you-can-eat sushi at several places within Brighton area, such as Yomato’s. Food is higher quality here but I’d take all-you-can-eat at the same price any day, because when I’m hungry and chowing down, as long as I’m filled up, the slight quality difference will go unnoticed. So why pay more? Though, his is definitely on my list of go-to places for a small, nicer dinner with one or two others. This restaurant is quite small, probably 20 people max. One restroom shared between genders. I can imagine it getting crowded quickly here for dinner. Luckily our group came for an early dinner so didn’t have to wait at all. There were two other people inside before us finishing their meal. Not too decorated, mostly white walls with some décor. And typical Japanese designs curtains that separate the dining area from the back kitchen.

I am obsessed with this place! I ordered the Avocado ball it was amazing! The sauce they pour over it was so good. It made me want to try the mango ball! I tried ordering it the other day but the waitress told me that it was not ripe(thank you for notifying me!) last time I ordered the mango salmon listed in their specials list it was kind of bland just bc the mango wasn’t quite ripe. **toro with tempura flakes(spicy) & avocado ball is definitely worth the try!

Love this place. Though it may be a tiny spot, I’ve never had issues with getting a seat. I’ve only gotten into sushi in the last few years, and this was one of the few places I could eat sashimi from. They serve great quality fish for a great price. I always recommend Fish Market to friends who are in need of sushi. Order the avocado ball, and if you feel like splurging give the Foie Gras maki a go as well.

My expectations might have been too high — I liked this place a lot but it’s not as life changing as I hoped! I’m constantly looking for my new standby sushi spot, and I thought fish market could be it. Everything was tasty, but the sushi wasn’t revolutionary. Agree with other Unilocalers that the avocado ball and black cod are must-orders. Sushi is very good, but I’d still prefer Café Sushi across the river.

I’ve lived down the street from Fish Market for years, and I feel like I should literally punch myself for taking until summer 2015 to get my butt in there. However, I’m not surprised that I could walk by it almost every day and never know that amazing sushi was to be found inside; as others have noted, it’s pretty nondescript and very small – only 4 or 5 tables, plus a sushi bar that seats 8 or 10. And let’s be honest: «Fish Market» isn’t really a name that gets my mouth watering. But enough about how idiotic I am for ignoring it for so long, let’s talk about the food. I’ve had some pretty good sushi in my life, but the stuff they’ve got here is just – wow. My go-to order is the Avocado Ball as an appetizer(YOUMUSTGETTHIS – I CANNOT stress that enough), one of their special maki rolls(the White Tiger is especially awesome), and the sushi/sashimi combo, which usually includes 2 pieces each of salmon, tuna, and the most tender yellowtail sashimi I’ve ever had; 1 piece each of eel, shrimp, squid, salmon belly, sea bass; and tuna maki. Tack on two Sapporo Premiums and you’re still only running about $ 60. If you’re a sushi aficionado looking for a new spot, head down Brighton Ave and keep your eyes peeled. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

I’d rate them higher but their service kinda sucked to be honest. The waitresses weren’t very attentive, especially after they took our order, they didn’t notice the machine where the orders come out of was clogged so of course the chefs were pissed and everything was backed up at least 15 minutes. I came with two other people and we all got our orders and different times so it was awkward when I got mine and everyone else had already finished. I’ve been here twice and the place is tiny so there’s usually a small wait, but luckily we got seats right away both times. The sushi was definitely fresh, average sized, but maybe I’ll just order pick up next time.

Heard a lot of good things about Fish Market and I’ve been meaning to try this place for a while now. Finally got around to it and it didn’t disappoint. Had to wait for almost 30 minutes, while an older couple fondled each other at the corner table. Super unnecessary and annoying, especially because there was a line out the door and it was clearly the wrong place for that. We ordered the avocado ball, which was very good. Amazed at the creativity behind the dish. Definitely one of a kind and it makes sense why this is their most popular dish. We ordered the salmon, white tuna, giant clam and uni sashimi. They were all very generous cuts, fresh and delicious. It was my first time watching the sushi chefs crack open the sea urchin and serve the uni right then and there. It doesn’t get any fresher than that around here. We also ordered the blackened cod with miso sauce. It had a beautiful color and it looked and tasted delicious. The pieces of cod weren’t flaky at all, but super smooth. Can’t go wrong with anything you order. Also ordered the beef don and one of the special rolls. All was delicious and I was stuffed when I left. It was a little pricier than I expected but that’s because we rage ordered while we had to wait outside in the cold. This place is legit if you want good quality sushi. I’m going against my motto for sushi with this restaurant, but its quality over quantity here, and it’s worth it.

This is my absolute favorite… and one that i rarely get to go to because it’s in allston and parking/taking the T is just horrid to get to. I found out about fish market from reviews back in. 2011 and have wanted to go but never really made it until this past February in which i suggested the BF bring me here to eat for our VDay dinner. I always thought this was like a big venue.fancy.overpriced– you name it, but i knew that despite all that… there would be good sushi. I was wrong in every aspect besides the good sushi part. It’s small… and not fancy. it’s just very comfortable to be honest. I don’t like to dress up all the time, so it’s nice to be able to come and wear whatever and just eat good food. I believe our bill was probably 140 $ for our meal– but we had some sake and beer. and we got every sushi i wanted to try. I tried the: dragon eye, jalapeño twister, alligators maki, kobe beef maki(which you should skip as i didn’t care too much for it), seared tuna maki, for gras sushi(that you must get and HOPE that the meat isn’t too fatty or else you won’t be able to chew it… this only happened 1 out of the 2 times i ordered it, the 2nd time i came, my friends was fine) avocado ball(MMMM) and MYFAVE… the rotate hokkaiyaki! It’s normal pricing for sushi… i mean if you order all the special rolls, you can expect your bill to be high as other places, but i went for takeout the other night and got 4 non-special rolls which cost 27 $ and was enough to keep the BF and i occupied for a couple hours… we loved the spicy scallop maki. so delicious… the bf loves his crazy maki. and we both enjoyed the eel maki and salmon maki with scallion. Everytime I pass by allston… i still think of fish market… so i grab whatever chance i have to go here… but i think that takeout would be best if you are not from allston.

If you are looking for FRESH-melt in your mouth-thick slices of fish, COMETOFISHMARKET. I kid you not, it was the best sushi place I’ve been to in Boston. Their sashimi is so worth it and they do not skimp out on portions. It is a very small hole in the wall place, so I suggest you come early or you will most likely have to wait. We came on a Sunday evening, and it filled up by the time we were done eating. Favorites were the WHITETUNA and SALMON sashimi! We also ordered a few rolls, but my favorite was the seared salmon topped roll. Their specialty rolls are all very nicely presented, and has good rice to fish ratio. We also ordered the nabeyaki udon and takoyaki. Takoyaki was delicious and I love watching the fish flakes melt/wiggle! Makes for a great snapchat video: P It comes with 4 pieces, and I suggest eating it hot. Makes it that much better! We ended with fried red bean ice cream. We were so full already, but couldn’t resist! It was a good end to the meal, but I wouldn’t get it again unless I had a craving. Very satisfying meal and I can’t wait to go back!

I’ve come here a handful of times and each time is better than the next. The place is pretty small, so when I came here the other night, it was packed and we had to wait in line to be seated. There’s 2 sushi chefs who cook at the sushi bar, and I definitely recommend getting a seat around the sushi bar! Seeing them slice the fish and torch different pieces is an art in itself. All the plates that they put in front of you are well thought out and beautiful. Their fish is so fresh and delicious. We wanted to try the toro since it was on the specials, but I feel like each time we come, the specials have already run out! Next time I guess! We ordered salmon sashimi, soft shell crab maki, spicy tuna, the California uni sushi(a special that they did have), and fried tofu wrap sushi as the normal pieces that we normally order. We also ordered the yellowtail truffle maki and the sweet eel maki! Out of all of those… I really loved all of it. But the special maki’s were definitely my favorite. I was craving sweet potato at the time so the sweet eel maki really hit the spot. The yellowtail truffle maki is something I recommend because the truffle is delicious and pretty special! You definitely can’t go wrong with anything here. Presentation is beautiful and the staff are very nice. Place gets packed early so I would come early. I’ve tried these before: avocado ball, the white tuna sashimi, unagi sushi. I would try the avocado ball if you haven’t had it before, it’s recommended as one of the best of boston! I can’t wait to come back, it’s been awhile since I had this last and I’m already craving it again. I want to try omakase here, so that might be next!

The best hole-in-the wall. Literally. I pass by this restaurant so many times because the whole restaurant size is practically the width of my body. Be prepared to come early and wait, or come right when they open. There is extremely limited seating, so it is best to come in two. SUSHI(In order of greatness): 1 — Toro. This melts in your mouth and I will order this every time I come back. 2 — Sea scallops. I’ve never had scallops like this before. 3 — Unagi. It is torched to perfection with very large pieces of eel. 4 — Salmon. You have to get salmon whenever you get sushi, right? It’s almost creamy and just the way I like it. 5 — Yellowtail All the sushi we ordered was really good. They’re only ranked by the ones I was most crazy about, but all the pieces we got were really good. AVOCADOBALL: The most unique dish I’ve seen at a sushi restaurant, but such a simple idea. The avocado texture melted well with the chunks of fish and roe. I loved this app! ROLLS Get any of the seared fish rolls. I loved both the seared tuna and seared yellowtail.

Food: 4.5 stars Service: 4 stars(wait time for a seat was long) Boy, this place is a gem in Allston! Holy guacmole, the avocado ball(forgot the real name) was amazing. Fish market is a tiny sushi restaurant with no parking but it’s super authentic and the rolls are so cute, delicious and well-prepared. I came with my lady friend for dinner and we pigged out! Vegatarian udon — twas tasty but honestly did not surprise me, but my lady friend slurped it up! Jalapeño twister — cute jalapeño pieces on top of salmon sushi rolls. Spicy, fresh and exquisite. Vegetarian and unagi fried roll — downside was that they were served on the same plate! There’s a reason why someone would order veggie sushi at a sushi place so to the restaurant: be cognizant of this next time! Mochi ice cream — delicious, with tiny little forks to share. Only downside was the wait time it was worth it!

Great sushi bar! One of the bests. It is a tiny casual space with maybe 4 tables and 10 bar seats. On the night I went, a Friday night, it was packed and there were three sushi chefs working away. Surprisingly, they worked pretty quickly and we got our food in a timely manner. Also, the waitresses were very good. Last, but certainly not least, the sushi was super fresh and delicious and there was plenty of options. It wasn’t the cheapest place, but it was reasonably priced, certainly for Boston. Also, they do serve beer and sake. Just beware, it is pretty much on street parking which can be dicey as there is not a whole lot for so many restaurants and my friends and I could not find a garage or parking lot. Plan to come early if you’re meeting up with someone and walking a distance. Also, most of the parking had about a 2 hr limit.
