Barley Flats was badly beat up by the 2009 Station Fire. This is a hike that is all on a fire road and leads up to what was once site of a Nike-Ajax(non-nuclear) anti-aircraft missile facility. There is a cool helipad on the top and administration buildings remain to this day. They removed the launch site rigs so no missiles to be seen. Now that area seems like its private property and there is only one sign(saw it later) stating«No Entry authorized Personal Only». The administration buildings are now part of the religious retreat called Camp Unity. I think its just best to avoid the fenced gate and take the Road slighty before the Camp(Yellow Gate — You wont miss it) and go up to the top where all the trees are at. John Robinson — Trails of the Angeles has it on a alternative route(Alder Creek off Upper Big Tujunga Road) and the route is badly overgrown and I believe even closed. This place is nothing like it was before, but still worth the hike for the cool factor of Helipad & Former Nike-Ajax anti-aircraft missile facility. Check out the video for this hike!
