I am a HUGE fan of Ru San’s. They do my sushi the best out of any other place around that I’ve tried, and they have a great selection. My boyfriend and I love sushi, so when we’ve got the hankering, we come to Ru San’s without question. The service could be just a little bit better. It’s okay, and I don’t have anything bad to say about it. Just maybe a little better attitudes and a little faster to refill and such. I prefer the booths to the tables, because the tables just feel so open in this space, I don’t know how to explain it. But overall a great atmosphere. My favorite roll in the entire world is the Japanese Bagel Maki. I’m a huge fan of tempura sushi, and they offer that on several rolls. I always feel like I can try new things though and not be disappointed which is saying a lot. We like the salmon and tuna nigiri choices as well. Also like the spicy tuna roll which is tempura, and I think this most recent time we tried the Firecracker roll? It was delicious. The food never ever disappoints us, it always satisfies our cravings. I wish we could afford it more often, but we try to make it at least once a month.

Hannah was great. The food was amazing, just like in the Edgewood Ru Sans. Wait wasn’t too long for our food either. Place was clean and tidy. My miso soup was killer… in case you didn’t know I have strong feelings about miso soup. One thing I love about Ru Sans is there dollar sushi menu. Mid I’m back in Athens I’m totally coming back.

This place is run like a pizza joint. Unfortunately, this is a sushi place. I ordered 2 rolls, both were inedible. I ate around the fish in my two fried rolls, as the fish was half cooked and half raw, not cold but luke-warm. I paid my bill and tipped well, but I won’t go back.

Really love this place. I frequent this place every week. Staff has always been friendly and offered great service. Most recently they have added the lunch sushi buffet. OMG, fresh sushi rolls, chicken fried rice, shrimp tempura, and their orange chicken are out of this world. The price is $ 12.95, but with all the selections of sushi, fried rice, and tempura dishes I thought the price is reasonable. Definitely a must go if you are a sushi lover!

This is a sad sad day… I’ve never had cause to give Any establishment 1 star but in this instance I feel it’s well warranted. My husband and I wanted to wait out the Christmas parade going on in downtown Athens so I could take him out to Celebrate finishing his Official last class to Graduate, so we decided to grab a drink at RuSan’s…he ordered a Manhattan and I ordered the Red Rock Merlot. Simple enough or one would think. The Merlot I ordered was terrible. It tasted like the worst box wine ever, definitely not worth $ 6 a glass. And to be quite honest box wine might have tasted better. I don’t know what the bartender thought a Manhattan was but it was nothing like either of us had ever tasted. Horrible. It was so bad it turned my husbands stomach and we end up going home instead of celebrating. When I asked for the check the bartender then decided to ask how everything was and after telling her how horrible our drinks were she then proceeded to charge us for the full price of both drinks even though I didn’t drink any of my wine except one sip before I pushed it away. This has kind of ruined my expectations of RuSan’s, I really like their sushi but after this experience I don’t know if I’ll be back. …so sad :(

Rusan’s in Athens is even better than the Atlanta locations. The lunch buffet is the best sushi deal in town. Be sure to try it if you love sushi! So much variety and a great value.

I have been eating here for 3 years, seen changes in owners, but always this place is satisfying. The service is great. The food is good especially the salmon quartet. Never had a bad experience. :)

I really wish I could rate negative number of stars. Ru San’s is definitely a don’t go. Terrible service and terrible dishes. They won’t tell you that some sides and fried rice come with extra charge until you see your bill. They also change menu on game days so that they can charge fans for extra. I ordered a regular teriyaki chicken and I swear to god it was the most terrible teriyaki I had. And they charge 21 dollars for that. The fried rice smells like a stinky mop and it charges you 1.5 dollar extra which they won’t let you know until you got your bill. Don’t go don’t go don’t go! Don’t waste your money and kill your mood.

I’ve been to Ru San’s a few times to three of their locations. Love the energy of the staff and the atmosphere inside the restaurant. They are very laid back and casual, not fancy, but they do have good selection of sushi. There a lot of options here from the common rolls to the more interesting ones. If you want just the basics of sushi, you can order them here(sure why not), but if you want to be adventurous, this is the must go place. I also recommend the saki bombs if you want to have a little fun or just to celebrate whatever it is.

I come to Ru Sans at least twice a month… I’d eat here every day if possible. I used to only get the nigiri(which has gone up in price over the past 2 years) but now I favor the special rolls(Dynamite Roll, Love me Roll. Etc) The staff is always great(though I’ve seen a lot of new faces lately) and I’ve never been disappointed with the food. In case of a zombie apocalypse, I’m headed straight to Ru Sans to enjoy the last of my days eating sushi!

I feel kind of sad writing this review, because I used to be a regular at Ru San’s when I was in school. My now-husband and I stopped by for lunch and dinner so much that a couple servers knew our drink orders by heart. Ownership of this restaurant must have changed over the past several years, or I’ve gotten wiser with age, because this location has really, really gone down hill. First of all — service. Turnover must be really high, because nowadays every time we come by, there’s a new person who doesn’t know anything about the menu. The poor girl who served us last time told us to point at everything on the menu before we even started ordering. And she still had to stop by our table three more times to make sure she had the order right. I appreciate the effort, but we intentionally ordered a lunch entrée and a sushi roll each, instead of a lot of individual rolls, just to make it simpler — to no avail. Several times, we’ll be there at dinner and there’s no bartender, and the servers have told us they don’t know how to make our drinks, so we weren’t able to order them. Is a rum and coke really that hard? Also, our rule of thumb for this place is this: if it’s packed, service will be much quicker. If it’s near-empty, prepare to sit there for at least an hour and a half, maybe two hours. Lunchtime on weekdays is always empty. Bad news for your lunch break. Once, a friend of mine was served a bowl of udon that had no noodles in it. When he got the waiter’s attention, we received a blank stare and this: «It’s not supposed to be like that?» Now, the food. This place is cheap. However — the prices were just raised all across the board. No more dollar sushi! The sushi itself has not at all risen in quality along with its price. This is easily the worst sushi you’ll ever eat: watery cold fish, lots and lots of tasteless cucumber, so much fake crab, and gobs of mayo and eel sauce to mask the subpar fish. If you get one of the giant sushi platters, don’t even bother with the sashimi: half of it’s drowned in an aioli sauce, and the other half is grainy and gross. The entrees are just okay. Expect everything to come on huge plates crowded with carrot, onion, and zucchini — again, so much filler. Even the ramen was full of carrot and zucchini. I will say, the grilled salmon is tasty, even though it’s waterlogged in teriyaki sauce. A light glaze would have been better. So, all in all, I can no longer recommend this place. It was nice when I was in college: more attentive servers, quicker service, and okay-tasting food. Lately, I’ve been disappointed again and again. It’s time to find some actually good sushi here in Athens.

The service was great. The food was not. Sushi was not fresh.. Seared tuna was actually over cooked. Everything tasted fishy and not in a good way. The pork on the yaki soba was cold and tasted and felt like card board. I asked for eel sauce and got bbq sauce. The spider roll had a fishy crab salad in it.. in a spider roll? Moved to athens from suwanee 4 months ago. Second sushi restaurant I’ve been to here.. second in which I’ve been terribly disappointed.

I’m not a sushi restaurant fanatic, however, sushi is my favorite food. I’ve been to this place twice, and both were with two different people who absolutely love this place. During my first visit, of which unmemorable sushi I ordered, I made a mistake of ordering against the waiter, thus I received a nasty appetizer that look like it came from some ally in Japan. It was basically steamed calamari served with watered-down mayonnaise. I thought I would never go back to this place. On my second visit, I searched through the menu for a good 5 minute to try and find their best specialty of sushi. I decided to order the Volcano because no sushi place can go wrong with the Volcano. I was wrong. Most Volcano has 8 – 10 rolls underneath the blanket of sauce, however, this 5 piece, vegetarian-filled seaweed, wrapped around cold rice sat on a plate a quarter the size of a table with nicely sriracha decorated plate. This Volcano is filled with cold cucumbers, asparagus, and imitation crab. I swear, I cannot imagine what this horror would have brought me if this was the first time I had a Volcano. My Moto of a good restaurant is that, if you are serving something, make sure it’s half decent. If not, take it out or make it better. Don’t just leave it as a trap hoping that some customer could find the best dish on your menu while avoiding the worst ones. I’ll save my essay about the millions of things wrong about this sushi, and just tell you people who has never gone to this place to go to another sushi restaurant. Not only will they charge you for hot tea, and 1 $ sauces, but your image of «sushi» will be crushed.

I ordered some nigiri as an appetizer and was very disappointed with how warm the fish was. Strike 1. My entrée was advertised as a spicier roll which failed to live up to any expectations. It lacked any flavor and was served in a very miniscule portion. Strike 2. My girlfriend had a vegetarian roll and some tempura fried chicken. I don’t know which did the trick, but I had to pull over to the side of the road on our way home because she couldn’t keep down what she ate. Strike 3. I’m sure this place has its days of good and bad. Tonight was bad. Our server, however, was the only shining light I can attribute to this place. She was kind and understanding. Not happy at all with my experience tonight.

This is probably the weirdest restaurant experience I’ve ever had. The takeaway from this is = Whatever you do DON’T ASKFOR A FRIEDEGG! My wife and I went here to eat the other night for the first time. We are still kind of new to town and used to live down the street from the Ru Sans in East ATL /L5P so we decided to stop in this Ru Sans location since we were in the area. The wait staff was very nice and cordial… I would give them 5 stars. We commented to each other that the vibe and décor was nicer than the Ru Sans we used to live by or at least better suited for us. It was also a little darker which is something we prefer. The Sushi seemed hit or miss. That’s my wife’s call. I got a Chicken Katsu Don and requested fried egg with it. When it showed up there was no fried egg and my wife’s meal was incorrect. My wife was fine with keeping her incorrect order and I asked if I could just have the egg please. We then saw the cook named Hugo freaking out on the waitress and sometime later she came back with some scrambled eggs and said she knew this is not what I wanted but that the cook Hugo was being difficult. He gets stressed out easily apparently and the fried egg request wasn’t helping. We could see this go down as it’s an open air kitchen. I told the waitress we certainly don’t mind paying for a fried egg if that’s the issue, but it didn’t seem to be the issue. The cook just didn’t want to make it for whatever reason. We saw the waitress go back to the cook named Hugo twice after that to no avail. THEN, it gets even stranger. The 2 guys one of which is Hugo are looking at me & my wife and are obviously talking about us. We’re looking right at them while it’s going on so I raise my hand as to inquire«what»? I get a raised hand back at me like they want to start a confrontation or something in the restaurant. Really? I just want a fried egg with my $ 50 meal… I don’t really care what kind of issues the cooks have. Shouldn’t be my problem or any paying customers. This isn’t a prison cafeteria is it? So I get up and walk over to the kitchen to ask what the problem is and can I get the fried egg or not? I was told the prior egg was broken and that may be the case too, but I’ve had my food for 20 minutes now it’s a pretty uncomfortable vibe for us in the restaurant now. I ask if the manager was in and she was not. I was told her name is Jackie and I was going to call her the next day, but then I figured I’ve invested too much time and energy in this already. What’s the point? I don’t really care… I’m just never coming back.

If you are in the area after a game, swing over to get delicious and affordable food! Once there, you will understand why it is so crowded especially if you are a college student on a budget. Must try items: eye of tiger beef, sashimi plater, and CHICKENFRIEDRICE!!! If it is cold out, the udon noodle bowls will warm and satisfy you! Staff is friendly and food comes out very fast! It took about 15 mins on a Sat night for us – another reason for us to return! Restaurant was recently renovated and now has a certain ambiance to it yet lively with the multiple flat screen TVs to keep you entertained. Cheers! Ru San’s Athens, we look forward to more of your delicious food!

You must know that Athens is not a city known for sushi! So if you are craving sushi, this is as good as it gets. The fish is just mediocre. It is not fresh and the wasabi did not impress me. It tastes like every other place. However, my favorite rolls to get here include: Pearl Harbor Shrimp Bomb: pretty interesting roll with pieces of shrimp tempura sticking out and rice in the middle. Tempura Japanese Bagel Maki Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese, and Avocado Rolled and Fried. Spicy Aioli Sauce. I also like how you can order pieces of tempera and grilled items. Their lunch menu is super cheap for sushi!

The best thing about this place: they make their own wasabi fresh!!! It’s so rare to get fresh wasabi anymore. This place isn’t too bad. I’m always hesitant about eating sashimi or sushi when I walk in and it feels less like a traditional sushi joint. C’est la vie. I ordered the kamikaze roll, salmon nigiri, tuna nigiri and octopus nigiri. Not too terrible but not the greatest. I would come here if I was in a pinch and desperately craving sushi.
