Service is very slow here and lack attentiveness. We weren’t asked once how we were doing and or if we needed anything else but had to wait until someone walked around the room to grab their attention. Miso soup was not great, it was bland on taste and color. I also ordered the rainbow roll which was okay; the roll itself was a bit too creamy and I’m usually a fan of the roll but at this place not so much. My date ordered the udon bowl and it was huge. I recommend sharing with another person or two because she had plenty of left overs. Both sides of the table booth seats were torn and my date was wearing shorts so she had to move towards the end to feel more comfortable and the bathroom did have any soap, bummer.

I’ve been dining here for HH for the past… 6 years. And sadly, their quality and price have gone down hill. Their prices has increased and their portion and quality has decreased. If they had maintained what they started out with many moons ago, I would have been a happier camper. They USED to have $ 2 sushi rolls of salmon, tuna, etc… now its $ 3 and they deducted two pieces of rolls. Basically they price increased by $ 1 and the rolls were deducted by a 20%. Service was still great. The staff were attentive and friendly. But the food and deal would keep me coming back. *sigh* such a disappointing day. My «happy» hour was a disappointing hour.

We came at closing which was still happy hour… But it was last call… My boyfriend and I love sitting at the bar but we are unable to receive happy hour at the bar which was a downer… Food is fresh and very yummy… Ambiance is very clean and nice… Dark and romantic. But customer service and the workers energy defiantly lacks. Maybe because they were wanting to go home, as it is mid-week, but GooD Business, is good Business?

Ehh. Mediocre food and mediocre service. I honestly don’t expect much from chain restaurants. the only time you will find me at a chain sushi restaurant esp. is if I’m mainly there to drink and just pick at things or if it’s just extremely conveniently located. This being said. I have been to this exact location twice. The first time i came i only drank which justifies my second visit(justified but still regretful second visit). Service was extremely lax at best and food was beyond mediocre. Ponzu sauce was on point though so i guess the mandatory 1 star review can go to that. My advice to you is avoid this place if you are looking to have a nice meal. Come if you are mainly intending to drink(or if you are looking to fill up on some ponzu sauce)

I love octopus. I don’t come to brea too often, but when I do I love going to octopus. Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had.

Food has always been very tasty, however, this last time when my husband and I ate there during happy hour we couldn’t help but notice that the service was really poor and they had us waiting a very long time to bring us water, our wine and then our food. The sad thing is that they weren’t busy at all. Also, since there was a lot more lighting than usual I noticed that everything was very dirty around the windows and blinds not to mention that the leather on our booth was completely broken down and dirty as well. I am sorry to say that that will be the last time that we will be eating there or eating take-out from that place.

I was expecting so-so given the 3 star ratings, but I was pleasantly surprised by Octopus. Came here with a few family members, so we ordered a bunch of things. 2 item combos for dinner are $ 13, and 3 item combos are $ 15, which is totally fair given the heaping quantity of food you get. Here’s what we got below: 3ITEMCOMBO with GYOZA, SPICYCHICKEN, SPICYTUNAROLL — First of all, these aren’t small portions. There were 5 or 6 Gyoza pieces, and 8 pieces to the roll. So come prepared to either eat or even share. My sister liked the gyoza, but I found it a bit salty. Luckily, I had a side of ponzu that I had asked for, so dunking the gyoza in ponzu made it fine. The Spicy Chicken was good, albeit not super spicy. Then again, my mother found it spicy, so maybe others will. The Spicy Tuna roll was decent, but nothing super special 3ITEMCOMBO with TERIYAKICHICKEN, SPICYTUNAROLL, CALIFORNIAROLL — The Teriyaki Chicken was okay, but the California Roll was surprisingly good. It’s not often I favor a Cali Roll over a Spicy Tuna, but I did here. CHICKENYAKISOBA($ 11) — Pretty good. Again, the portion was heaping, and I don’t think even half of it was eaten. There was plenty of chicken, which was nice, because often the noodle to chicken ratio is absurd at places(did I just start rambling about noodle to chicken ratio? Sigh.) CAMARILLOROLL($ 11) — Albacore and red onions on top, spicy tuna with avocado on the inside, with ponzu side inside the roll as well. Fantastic by itself, didn’t even need to dip it in wasabi/soy or extra ponzu. Highly recommended, and my favorite dish of the night. The service was excellent. We came on a Sunday around 8, so it wasn’t packed or anything, but I noticed some reviews slamming the service. I didn’t get bad service at all. Overall, while I won’t give it 5 stars because the spicy tuna and gyoza weren’t amazing, I’d come back here for the value, especially at happy hour.

Whenever my family goes to Octopus, we always leave completely full. We usually opt for the combination plates which you can either order two or three dishes depending on how hungry you are. Come for lunch time because the prices for the combination plate is cheaper. The choices range from salmon teriyaki, beef teriyaki and various sushi, and comes with salad, miso soup, pickled cucumbers, half an egg roll and edamame. The honey dressing on the salad is so good! Besides the combination plates, the menu also offers various sushi rolls, udon, dessert(like tempura ice cream!), etc. We also ordered the Poke Sunrise roll which was marinated sashimi on top of 6 California rolls. It was pretty good but not $ 14 good. The décor is pretty modern and classy so I feel pretty bougie whenever I come in. Our waiter would often come to refill out waters so I would consider the service pretty good!

Went during their happy hour(which is pretty much all day now with the new(?) adjustment). Ordered a dragon roll and the amount of unagi they put on it was PAAATHETIC. If you gotta skimp on the fish, I’d rather just not order the roll at all regardless of how much cheaper it is during happy hour. The other rolls were just okay. This place just doesn’t amaze me like it used to. Maybe it’s because as I’m growing older I’m more partial to the taste of fresh fish as opposed to sauced-up sushi rolls.

FOODISGREAT!!! Prices reasonable, and location is great if you want to see a movie after dinner or lunch. Located next to Birch Street movie theaters. Plenty of easy parking. Friendly servers. :) I am not giving 5 stars due to the following… Customer service and restaurant policies could be better. Pay attention to all their odd rules on the happy hour menu.(pic.2) I eat out almost every single night — for many many years. I am well aware of restaurants policies. This place has some very strict and odd rules. Theirs are excessive. I often bring in «Buy-one-get-one-free» coupons to restaurants. Note; that if you have one of these they will NOT allow you to order anything off of their«Happy Hour» menu during that visit. In other words, you can order 2 combo plates for 2 people, and they STILL won’t allow you to order MORE off of the happy hour menu. You also can only use this deal if you order off of a small section of the menu, and they won’t include sashimi or sushi plates. Apparently they LIKE making LESS money from their customers. We tried to order a $ 23 entre, and asked to get the second free entre that was $ 17. They told us NO. We ended up having to order a $ 17 entre, and got the other $ 17 entre for free. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t want to make more money of they could. It’s very odd that they limit themselves like this. Another disappointment is that their BOOTHS are in desperate need of repair.(see my photo in pics) Almost all their booths look disgusting and I don’t recall I have ever been in a nice place that had booths look so bad. Makes you literally not want to sit down. Their servers are very friendly, but could use some training on how to be better. Like asking if anyone needs refills on drinks; not barking at patrons to «take the plate» when they are setting them down in front of you; not to bring the tiny to-go containers when it’s obvious we need large containers; and bringing a to-go bag when they bring the containers without us having to ask for one. It almost feels like the owners are extremely«stingy», and they train their servers to cut corners wherever possible. FYI, it’s apparent owners… and it’s hurting your business and your profits by being this way. * I will change my review to 4 or 5 stars when they fix their booths and when they allow me to get happy hour«in addition» to my coupons.(not instead of, but in addition to.) I would like to spend more money when we come here, if they would allow it. I don’t know why they would want to discourage patrons from spending more money here?

The food and service is good but– the booths are nasty. The upholstery is bad and has been for years. The stuffing is coming out and scratches your legs if you have shorts on. It makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like. A fancy like place with an eyesore.

I love this place, its conveniently located on Birch St. by my office. You definitely get what you pay for and the prices are reasonable. I come here a lot for lunch and finally decided to write a review to give this place a two thumbs up! It’s your normal sushi place, but the quality of the food is what gets me, I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed with anything I’ve ever ordered! The staff seem really young, but still polite and attentive. Also, it’s a lot quieter at lunch time, so faster service! Whatever time you decide to go, you have to try the poke sunrise roll or the sashimi salad :)

I like this place. It’s got an overwhelming menu though — but in a good way! Lots of different sushi rolls to choose from and they’re flavorful. There are more sushi rolls than your average California roll, crunch rolls, or other typical rolls. I ordered the Bora Bora and the Sapporo with my friend. Both were delicious. The bora bora had more tuna with fried garlic chips. The Sapporo was my personal favorite of the two, with the albacore on top and thinly sliced red onions on top. I’ll want to go back to try their other rolls for sure :) Tempura ice cream — standard. They have a plum ice cream too. Calamari tempura was good. self explanatory. sort of difficult to mess that up…

I went once and I can’t wait to come back. The restaurant is pretty big and really nice inside. Perfect date spot. I went during happy hour and that was really nice. Their happy hour menu is really good. I got the HOT roll. They got me to really like the fried rolls. The sauce was so good. Our waitress was really awesome too. She split the checks for us and was very attentive. Thanks Kelsey!

Place is clean and prices rock at happy hour. mmm I want more gyoza The salad dressing was a lil mayonnaiseee they need to add some citrus or g Integra to cut the mayo flavor… thats my only gripe lol The miso was damn good. perfectly made… Ok im gonna a get back to eating. come in and enjoy some healthy food while you xmas shop! Good for happy hour cheapo rolls and deals. Everything else including real sushi? Not so much. We usually used to come here for group dinners and celebrations but lately we have stopped since the quality of the food seems to be going down. But more importantly the service, which has always been pretty poor, still remains very poor. It seems like the waitresses either hate their jobs or are extremely shy and inattentive. Don’t really know what they are doing. And kind of just plot our food on our table and don’t say anything. Always seems like the guys do a better job than the women here. Not sure why that is, but that’s what’s we’ve noticed coming here for so many years. One time and the last time we ever came here we found a huge ass cockroach crawling under our table, between our feet and scurried into a vacant booth next door. I told the waiters and they took care of it, but it was pretty nasty especially since it came from the direction of the kitchen/bathroom. We told the owner or manager and then went straight to kabuki. I also remember coming in on Columbus day and for some reason Columbus day was a big enough excuse for them to tell us that they aren’t doing happy hour that day. Way to celebrate a very necessary holiday.

Two stars for the service because the service was a little lacking… Four stars for the food :) My boyfriend and I were pleasantly surprised at the food. We weren’t expecting much because an e-foodie deal brought us in. I had the steak, sushi, and gyoza combo and he ordered the beef, sashimi and tempura combo. I would have to say that my steak was a lot more flavorful than his beef. They gave us pretty generous portions of the tempura and gyoza, which was good. Plus the combos came with miso soup, salad and rice. As for the sashimi, the salmon was pretty good and the tuna was decent, but not 5 star quality — at least it was fresh! I would definitely come back for their happy hour, but not sure if I’d pay full price for the same meal again. Sapporo came with a chilled mug, as it should. :)

For a fusion restaurant, this place does not skimp on portion sizes. In fact, everything is affordably priced, including those adult-friendly beverages! Hits: * Aforementioned, they ain’t messin’ with the portion sizes * The lunch special is a huge steal — I ordered the 3 item combination(Lunch: $ 9.95, Din: $ 14.95) with the Catfish Misoyaki, Salmon Teriyaki, and Spicy Tuna Roll with a salad and miso soup included * If not lunch, there’s a HH as well to take advantage of decent Japanese food! * Love the miso-based salad dressing — my friend orders an extra side of it as dip for her entrée items. you’re welcome! * The servers were so attentive — I think our water cups were filled at least 3 times before my friend had to stop the considerate server and remind him that we were in the midst of a severe drought hahaha * The restaurant(and matching-themed restrooms) is sophisticated, clean… and really red Lessons Learned: * The food was decent in general, and it’s hard to complain when the price point is that low, but the flavors were slightly off — either a tad too sweet(like the Misoyaki) or too salty(miso soup) * Maybe I should order an octopus dish here next time A good spot for some munchies and a few Sake Bombs, given there isn’t a wait. I always remembered seeing a clump of people waiting outside during dinner time when passing by Downtown Brea to head to the movies or another restaurant, and if that’s the case, I’d rather skip the wait here for Bruno’s or Bruxie. I mean… I like this place at best, but nowhere near loving it.

I’ve been to this place a couple times and unfortunately I’m not absolutely in love with it, as I am with most other sushi places. It’s a nice and clean place but nothing really stands out! I want to one back for happy hour though and see what all the hype is about.
