fish & grits have that great southern taste i was looking for, absolutely satisfied! The atmosphere is calm and they have a full bar along with a brunch and dinner menu that includes both soul and sea foods. I’d recommend coming here for a lunch date with a friend(as I did) or even with a few friends to watch Sunday football.

Our bartender was so sweet and she recommended the Thai chili wings and they were great ! Love the spot to grab a beer and chill with your friends.

Ok place. They have live bands and a really good dj that plays great funk and rare grooves on Saturdays.

Wow such a nice looking place with such shitty service as well as the inside looks like a run down juke joint in the south. Amazing food was also so so with small portions. I guess if Burger King is closed this is a second option.

Not the best soul food experience I’ve had. The brisket tasted like rotting meat, and was tough to chew like it had been sitting out all day. The yellow rice was bland, no flavor at all. And the lemonade was watery. I don’t think I’ll be back.

Food poor and had no flavor. Wish we had read reviews before coming. Will not be coming back here ever again. I didn’t know there was a way to make meatloaf and chicken with no soul at all. Very disappointed

Never been to a sports bar with live jazz and quality ambience! Really awesome place. Try the soul sampler. Really incredible place. The haters on here are all pretentious punks, so don’t listen to them.

Run!!! This place is all types of terrible. The food was atrocious. I got the southern fried chicken, collard greens and Cajun rice. Basic southern dishes that they should have no problem making. Each dish was flavorless and made me feel sick to my stomach. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I am never coming back. I wish I could give zero stars. How is this a soul food spot? How is this place still in business? I wish I read the reviews before coming. It’s rated low for a reason. Learn from my mistake.

I’m shocked by the two star rating for this spot, but… I only order from it late night and I’ve never actually been inside of the restaurant. So, my review is going to be based on the food that was delivered to me. I order the Cajun Catfish Platter and the catfish was cooked to PERFECTION. It was seasoned perfectly. I’m not a chef, but… I do cook and I definitely want to find out how they got the grilled catfish so tasty. I love their truffle mac & cheese and their collard greens with smoked turkey. If there is one issue I had with this spot(which was corrected after I pointed it out) was one order where they gave me yellow rice that was overcooked and scraped from the bottom of the pot or pan. The other food was so good that I decided to give them a second chance and they didn’t make the same mistake twice. One of my pet peeves is when restaurants try to pass off old food to their customers just to get rid of it. Under normal circumstances the initial yellow rice fiasco would have been a deal breaker. I would suggest they check who scoops the rice because they seriously need to be replaced if they either don’t know they are serving customers overcooked rice or they are doing it on purpose. Overall, if you are ordering late night food I recommend this spot. If you are planning on visiting the restaurant… check the other reviews.

Not good at all, don’t waste your time our order took forever got seated at 930pm and we didn’t get our food until 1150pm, we ordered a cake paid for it first, and it never came but they didn’t want to give us our money back. Skip this place,!

Where do I start? Me and my babe came here expecting a nice soul food dinner and a few drinks and what we received was terrible customer service, bland food, and a long ass wait. first off when we ordered our drinks the bartender took a phone call in the middle of us ordering and walked off for like 10 mins. then they were out of grand marnier so I couldnt have the drink I wanted. it took him like 20 to 25 mins to make two simple drinks mind you there were only 2 other customers in the bar! My fried chicken was bland as heck. i couldnt even taste salt and pepper!!! Smh! The might as well called it «flour chicken» the greens were bland as hell too. potatoes cold and lumpy. my hubby had fried catfish. which couldve been way better. barely any flavor. the only thing good out of both of our meals was his french fries! Then to top it off we were ready to pay and leave. and my hubby called this girl to process our check because our server was taking too long. then he walks up and says. oh you gave the bill to her? And my babe says yes because you looked busy down there cleaning up plates and blowing out the candles etc. and he says«i actually wasnt busy» with a smart ass tone! We will never spend our money in that establishment again. if you want real soul food please go else where!!! Oh one more thing. there was a girl at the bar taking a nap with her head layed on the bar. we thought she was a buzzed customer. come to find out she worked there! What a joke!!!

No. I had heard the food here wasn’t very good, but I thought I’d try for myself. No. All wrong. The greens were bland. The Mac and cheese was greasy but not buttery or creamy or cheesy, like it was made on the cheap. And the fried catfish looked suspiciously like tilapia – flat, thin, with not one single twist or curve. I’m not convinced it was catfish. I fry catfish fillets myself. This was, at best, a lame excuse for fried catfish. Please. Trust me. Do not take a chance on this terrible food. Maybe if people stay away, they will get it together. No self-respecting lover of soul food should be up in here.

Went on a comedy night and it was terrible all around. The comics where not funny(except the last one), and they got mad at us because they weren’t funny. The drinks were too strong. I know thats crazy to say but they were just nasty. The wings tasted like salt. It also took a really long time to get food because they only have one server and bar tender. I will not be going back to this place

It’s sad when you keep giving a restaurant chances to «get it right» and it keeps failing… miserably. I have been a patron of Five Spot on and off for several years now. When they first opened, the food was pretty good and the place itself was a lot of fun. They had live music, DJs, different events, and a good crowd. Over the years, I feel like their overall quality has diminished. I don’t know if they have changed owners, management, or chefs, but it’s sad to see. I will admit that I haven’t been to the restaurant in quite some time, but have been ordering their food via Seamless, which brings me to my review. Every other time I have ordered, the delivery comes in a reasonable time frame, and my food is delivered to my door(I live in an apartment building). This time was no different, except the delivery man called me from his cell when he arrived and asked me to come downstairs. I explained that he can come up, and he said«I’ve never had to come up before». Then I responded«well, I’ve never had to come down before». He explained again that he didn’t have to come up and that I could call the restaurant to confirm. Then he asked again«Can you come down? I have a lot of orders to deliver, and it’s about to rain.»(yes, those were his exact words. Meanwhile, it never did rain) I went downstairs, and of course he had an attitude. He «challenged» me again to call the restaurant, but instead I called Seamless directly, and asked for a refund. They called Five Spot on my behalf, but explained that I may not be eligible for a refund because I accepted the food, and there really wasn’t an issue in that area.(there was, but that’s another story) The manager told the Seamless rep that I cannot have a full refund, but would give me 40% off my next order. I told Seamless that won’t work, because I never planned on ordering from them again. So when Seamless relayed that message, the manager then lowered the discount to 30%. Are you kidding me? Have you heard of anything so trifling? The irony of this is, the food wasn’t even for me! I ordered for a friend who loves them. I have stopped liking the food long ago. I would order every now and then, but I always wondered why I kept ordering after I was done with my meal. Just sub par food. After this incident, I think I’m truly done. While good food is crucial to a restaurant’s success, good customer service is equally important. Had the manager kept the discount at 40%, called with an apology, or comped my meal, I may have considered ordering again. But this is the last chance I’m giving them to «get it right.»

I really like this place. Had a great brunch with my girls. Great outside space and really good staff. However it was empty on a Saturday. They should have a better crowd maybe some drink specials and marketing would help?

Umm this spot is a flop. Why the name«five spot»? So misleading. My purpose here was to hang out with my friend and her friends. It was slightly«busy» due to the speed dating event that was in progress. The speed dating event… don’t waste your time. Any how, the bartender was a sweetheart; very attentive. On the other hand, the drinks were okay. I wouldn’t even recommend this spot for a group gathering. Can’t rate the food since I didn’t want to eat. This place is like a last minute venue if ALL other places fail. With a HUGE emphasis on «all» and«fail».

I like the five spot. I’ve been here several times. The first time I went there was a poetry night taking place or an open mic as some would call it. There were some great artists. This one guy almost incriminated hisself as a domestic abuser but that’s a different story. The soul food is great. They have one side of the establishment where they just serve food. The other side of the business is where the bar and stage are located. This is the corner location. I’ve heard the sweet sounds of jazz there as well. The only thing that they don’t have a great selection of is brunch foods. They Basically just serve their normal dishes during brunch hours.
