This is my hang. This is a real bar, not a liquor boutique. Artists, craftslpeople, designers. No hipster wannabees. It’s my hood. A-holes keep out.

Great place to grab a drink and hang out. Sarah, the bartender, was friendly and attentive. The patrons were also very chill and I had a blast there.

I do not typically write reviews, but South is too great not to! I had my birthday here over the summer, and I’ve never been somewhere so accommodating. The service and the atmosphere is perfect. And who wouldn’t want free popcorn??? Also, the Grilled Cheese«Ryan» is a must. Of course the drinks are always great, especially their beers on tap. It is a great place to go when you do not want to be somewhere loud and rowdy like many other people my age. South is a neighborhood gem!

I went to a birthday party at this bar, and the staff/owners were so accommodating and friendly. The had a good selection of beers on tap, and bartenders were quick to serve. Even though I don’t live in the area, I would keep it in mind if I’m ever around the neighborhood.

About the most down to earth bar in South Brooklyn, perhaps all of Brooklyn. I actually don’t say that with glee. I say that wondering how 95% of New York bars can been so souless, overpriced, impersonal and wretchedly narcissistic. Oh, perhaps it’s because that describes most of our city in 2015. Enter South. Like pretty much anything from Texas – hell, like pretty much anything outside NYC and LA – you can’t accuse it of not being real. $ 3PBR with easy buy backs after a few. Do you realize how few bars do buy backs here anymore? I leave you with that.

I“ve never had a night at South that i didn’t thoroughly enjoy, in fact, it’s one of the bars that made me want to move to this neighborhood a year ago. They always have great choices on tap, and their grilled cheeses are extremely tasty! I hang there regularly with some neighbors and friends and play games all night, usually they have a great stock of games, but on occasion we bring Cards Against Humanity and play on the back patio until they close it at 11. The bartenders are all extremely friendly and knowledgable, and the owners run South Brooklyn Shakespeare which i think is fantastic considering I have a theater background as well, and love that my favorite local bar seems to have one too! They have a great jukebox, and a TV, so there’s always some sort of stimulation! Now i’m leaving town for a few months and the thing i’ll miss most is South!

The grilled cheeses are NOT as amazing as everyone thinks. Its literally dry wonder bread with like one slice of cheese on a panini press. I used to tolerate going there occasionally when my friends wanted to go, but the final straw was when one night, an angry drunk guy was trying to fight my friends for no reason and the bartender just stood back and watched instead of stepping in or kicking the crazy guy out. Between that and the terrible grilled cheeses, I will never be going back.

Great local south slope bar. Cheap prices. Good selection of drinks. Cozy in the winter and cool in the summer. The late nigh menu has a one of a kind grilled cheese.

Jenga skills are out in full force when I come to South. I know what you’re thinking. «Wow, this guy talks about being a Jenga master! He must be the coolest person ever.» Listen, I didn’t choose this life, I just chose to embrace it. Bring on the Jenga. Enough about Jenga… for now. Even without the Jenga this place is a must stop on any 5th ave bar crawl. First off free popcorn. Who doesn’t like popcorn? It just tastes so good, even though I shouldn’t be eating it so late. I just can’t stop. Oh, no. I got those annoying kennels stuck in my teeth. My night is ruined! Alright, maybe popcorn isn’t all that wonderful, but it’s pretty darn good, and FREE! Not for free, are the few bar snacks that you have to pay for. The grilled PB&J is a bar favorite. There isn’t a large menu, but I’ve been with a large enough group where they let us bring pizza into the bar. I’m not sure if they always do that, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask if you’re interested. The backyard is gorgeous. Lots of space. Well designed. You can get your own little section or table, more if you got enough folks. They have Big Buck Hunter if you’re with those guys who want to play, and then laugh when they beat you because they think they’re so cool when they win a game. What are they five? Back to the Jenga. I was building towers like Frank Lloyd White himself! Yes that’s an architect reference, eat it! People were in awe of my performance. People worked against me to ensure I would lose. They even messed up the blocks and distorted them when I went to the bathroom. There attempts were futile, I was laughing. The drinks are cheap, and they have a pretty sweet selection. And don’t forget a $ 5 beer shot combo. South, I wish you were a little bit closer. I need more of you in my life.

This is my go-to bar in the neighborhood. You can’t beat $ 3PBR and free popcorn. Plus board games galore! Not much in the way of food choices, but the grilled pb&j sandwiches are delicious!

Came here for my bday and bartender was nice enough to offer me a free whiskey shot because of it. The food is decent with the price. Overall, pretty chill.

Meh. I could take this place or leave this place. This bar was okay. It was busy with regulars and that was nice to see. The bartenders were A-Okay but we had to ask for the popcorn, otherwise we wouldn’t have got anything. We ordered some beer and a grilled cheese from the back. It was okay. Not horrible. This place gets two stars.

I had my birthday party here last Saturday, and they were SO accommodating! I spoke with Paul prior to the event, and he reserved a spot on the patio for us. They usually close the patio at 11PM as to not disturb the neighbors, but they kept it open a tiny bit later for us. We were offered free popcorn as well as some drink specials, and they let us bring in birthday bubbles :) Thanks for a perfect birthday evening, Paul & South Pub!

I can here because my buddy it’s from Texas and he kept talking about this place. We stopped by after brunch(yeah I know, I’m a glutton) just to check out this steak taco event. Since I was carrying milk,(yes I also did some grocery shopping), the bartender was super sweet and put it away in the fridge so I could eat and drink some more. After a $ 5 donation, there was a steak taco and pulled pork slider buffet for your enjoyment. I’m a terrible person because I don’t remember why they were trying to raise money, but for a charity event, they didn’t skimp on making the food tasty. I briefly met the owners, and you can tell they’re community centered and know their regulars. The steak was made well; medium to medium rare. The pulled pork was juicy, not dry at all. If they take so much care into food that they’re only asking for a $ 5 donation, think about how their standard food is. I personally don’t know, but I am now enticed to head back.

Great neighborhood bar, great beers and one small tv enough to capture your attention but not too overbearing. Sandwiches are to die for! Grilled cheese, GC with jalapeños and kielbasa(amazing) and my favorite ever: PBJJ, a PB&J with jalapeños. Don’t knock it til you try it. Beer and shot deal is always worth it and only $ 5!

Having left the park slope area I come here whenever I return. I may actually move back mostly so I can come here more often. Stop in and have a drink — the bartenders are solid at their craft. Update: 3÷31÷15 — I still wish they would close Freddy’s so that South could expand!

There’s a lot to like about South. The good sized back patio(closes at 11), free popcorn(from a bag, not popped in house), a big international beer(bottle) list, a few large wooden booths, a small inexpensive food menu, and a very good selection of board games. Beer prices weren’t all that great, a good majority of the bottles were 7 – 8(they did get as low as 4 – 5 on a few though) and the tap selection was very limited as well. I was bummed to see the back patio close so early but I understand the noise and neighbors don’t exactly mix that well.
