I live very closeby, so the boyfriend and I frequent this place when we want a casual drink or dinner. They always have good beer on tap, and the employees are all very nice. For dinner I’d recommend their chicken salad, open-faced pot roast, and the mac and cheese. The jalapeño corn bread is so good! The bar area is small and dark but cozy and great for a drink or two to wind down after a long day. I recommend!

Went with another couple for Restaurant Week — a shared appie, soup/salad, 2 sandwiches plus a shared dessert for $ 20.15? Hard to find a better deal than that! Nice draft beer selection for a small neighborhood bar. We had the stuffed mushrooms. They were fine, but nothing special. They did appear to be house-stuffed, rather than frozen/pre-made. The salads were pretty large; the soups were AMAZING! Beer cheese soup was delicious enough, but the soup of the day was a roasted tomato smoked gouda — holy cow. One of the best soups I’ve ever tasted! Hubby had the burger — HUGE. Must have been ½# patty. Lots of LT&O on it. Cooked beautifully. I had the BBQ chicken with cole slaw topping — extremely good, but it was a bit spicy for my taste. Friend’s Reuben was highly rated. HOMEMADE chips came with all sandwiches & they were a huge hit at our table. Good food as great prices — a bit more special than bar food, but nothing fancy. I’d love to go back & try the wings.

I have been coming here every so often with my wife. We always get the 40 cent wings on Saturdays from 3 – 5, and they are the best wings we have had anywhere in Buffalo. Each time we come in the wings seem to get better, and the service has been excellent each and every time. We also got homemade pumpkin ice cream today, and really good sweet potato fries. Neither of us are Irish, but we always feel so welcomed, so if you are still on the fence about coming here, just know that you will be welcomed and made to feel welcome. The service is also prompt and today the Chef actually made us a few extra wings at no extra charge because he felt that our wings were too small to begin with. You do not get that kind of service everywhere. I highly recommend this place, and if you read a bad review about it, try it out and see for yourself, especially when there are wing specials.

I went to Conlon’s with my husband and a few friends as they were a local place with a kitchen opened late. The food was good for the price however I will not be returning due to the service. I am a narcoleptic and am prone to sudden sleep attacks. While I was there I fell asleep at our table, away from everyone else and not harming a soul, when we were informed I could not be sleeping and remain in the establishment. My husband attempted to explain the situation, as my attacks last only a few minutes at most, but we were told that my medical condition did not matter. I had to be woken up immediately, to my embarrassment, in a manner that had all patrons staring at me. I went to the bar to enjoy some food with family and friends. I left feeling ashamed of something not within my control. I do not recommend this establishment and its treatment of the disabled.

I’ll admit it… every time I go I pretty much eat the same things… the chicken wings are out of this world(dare I say the best in Buffalo?)…and the homemade chips are perfect for munching on over a couple craft beers. It’s just a really great comfortable place to go and hang out with friends. I have had the Reuben too and it is amazing. Really, nothing bad I can say about my times dining here.

Happy St. Patty’s Day !! Another good time at Conlon’s. We started in the tent listening to The Leftovers band sipping on our Guinness and poppin a few Jameson’s to keep the chill off. Eventually we made it inside but had a long wait for a table. It’s a tiny place so you had be patient, enjoy the moment and sip your Guinness. Started with the Loaded Potato Soup, which was VG, and then enjoyed the most tender Corned Beef dinner we’ve had in a long time. The Sheppard’s Pie wasn’t too shabby either. The place was packed and the staff were all trying very hard to keep up with the patrons drink and food orders. I personally think they were understaffed and a little disorganized. But they worked their butts off and were very friendly considering the circumstances. So Sláinte Conlon’s, and we’ll be back soon for some wings, and again next St. Patty’s.

Beer, Reuben’s, and mac n cheese: Three 3 reasons I’ll continue to go back to Conlon’s, forever. It’s a pub. Has a pub setup, pub style, and pub vibe. Also a sound, ever rotating beer selection; along with occasional tastings and brewery sponsored events. There’s a mug club and monthly trivia night. Couple that with the consistent and friendly staff and its a place for locals and visitors.

Myself and 3 friends were there tonight for dinner during the sabers game for 40 cent wings– the waitress wasnt friendly at all– food was ok when the check came and wings were triple she said we needed to specify? And when she went to check with managment they said the only way to change it would be to toss our to go bag? Really we were not satisfied at all!

Good burgers and beer. You can’t go wrong with that combination. A small place in South Buffalo with good food for a good price. They have a good variety of burgers to choose from as well as a decent selection of beers on tap.

We took advantage of Restaurant Week 2014 to check out some of my new neighborhood eateries –South Buffalo — I was a bit surprized to find only TWO places offering RW2014 deals– but we tried them both and were extremely satisfied. Turns out Conlons is a hop skip and jump away-.and we left a cold fall evening behind when we walked into the small cozy warm bar area and were quickly seated in the equally small cozy dining room. Super Nice– thats how to describe the staff, and we were pretty much seated in the door way to the kitchen, and had a chance to be greeted by everyone working!, I had Unilocaled the menu– a big one and had somewhat of an idea of what to expect-a definite and delicious twist on comfort bar food– and we chose the slightly higher 30.14 option, as to try more of the delicious offerings. We were not dissapaointed– Beer Cheese Soup was passed back and forth with Loaded Potato… quickly emptied! The beer was apparent in the Beer Cheese soup– not too gluey as often is the case-just right, and the Potato was loaded with chunky potatoes and ham? Bacon? Delicious… Next came the appetizer plate to share– piping hot stuffed mushrooms, fried ravioli, and a steaming crock of hot dip, and homemade crunchy delicious potato chips! We were only stopped from pigging out by the temp of the dip– which stayed hot as long as the chips held out– which in itsself is awesome– cold dips are a bummer– no worries– thick creamy savory… But Wait –we were full and there was more! Shephards Pie and Pot Roast Dinner made an appearance as we eyed each other and wondered how we managed to have so much delicious food– Again, everything piping hot, aromatic and generous… Loved the Shephards Pie(Im a sucker for anything with mashed potatoes, maybe its the Irish in me? The meat was swimming in gravy, and the knife work on the veggies was perfect-(did you guys cheat?)…and it was just as awesome the next day for lunch. ! Pot roast was a generous slab– served up with red potatoes, and beautifly carmelized carrotts– I found the gravvy a bit salty, but the BF had no problems! And enjoyed the next day as well! We took our gooey Butter Cake home and settled into a warn night in with full bellies, two forks and a movie. Thanks Conlons for participating in RW2014 ! We have found our destination spot for winter 2014, and will be back for more!

I’ve long heard Conlon’s described as a South Buffalo institution, a small place with good beer, good wings, and trivia every Thursday. I’ll be honest. I probably wouldn’t have visited the place except that they did have trivia. I frequent enough«_____institutions» already. But while there, I took in the full experience. So some thoughts. ATMOSPHERE: Conlon’s exists in two physical parts. The first is the bar area accessible on first entering. It’s small. It’s dark. It’s quite cozy. A few booths line the immediate wall with a bar running across the back of the room. Aside from the fact that the bar is short enough to fill up with but a handful of individuals, it’s perfect. Were I to live closer, it’s entirely possible I’d find myself there often. Next to the bar are a set of stairs leading to the second half of Conlon’s. With eight or so square tables adorned in green-and-white-checked plastic table cloths, the space screams, «Dining Area Here!» With the lack of natural light,(and poorly designed artificial lighting) the lack of ventilation, and the close proximity to the kitchen, this space feels cheap. In stark opposition to the first, I couldn’t wait to quit it. DRINKS: Beers on tap are limited to a few local brews(Flying Bison) and erstwhile favorites like Smithwick’s and Guinness that predate the invasion of the microbrew. Offerings are fine, I suppose, but could be improved in a flash. FOOD: I ordered the fish and chips to much disappointment. The crust of the fish chunks served to me was neither flaky(one excellent way of serving) or moist and savory(another excellent way). Rather, it was cooked such that it boasted an unfortunately tough resiliency not easily cut by fork or knife, frequently dumping the underseasoned fish inside out onto the plate. A decidedly subpar offering. Tartar sauce did not homemade. Thin and uniform in texture, it tasted far too much of mayonnaise and possessed none of the slightly herby chunkiness it should normally possess. That they failed here is curious to me as I have never before seen such tarter sauce proffered. Served with potato chips rather than French fries, I think this might be the first time I’ve ever relished chips as a side more than the actual entrée. Deliciously crisp(and finished with an oven bake, I think), lightly seasoned, and still possessing native potato undertones, these chips were the highlight of my meal and an item other establishments would be wise to copy. ENFIN: I think the recipe for success here is sitting at the bar, ordering a basic beer and a basket of chips, and chilling with friends while watching some sporting event. Asking for anything more ambitious is likely asking too much. But a good question might be how much more needs to be done if Conlon’s is successful in these facets. 3 stars for atmosphere(5 for part 1, 1 for part 2) 3 stars for drinks 2 stars for food(2 for fish, 5 for chips, 1 for sauce) 3 stars overall — - — - — - — - — - — - — - — - — - — - — - — - — - — - BONUSTRIVIAREVIEW: Conlon’s offers trivia every Thursday at 8:00 p.m. I’m a trivia junkie who couldn’t get his fix at Gene Format: — Six rounds of eight questions each(fill in the blank) with one puzzle round at the end(with first two groups to finish it receive one and two points respectively). — Questions are read once and then posted on TV monitors to be read. 45 seconds to answer each question. — Team size is capped at four. — $ 25 gift certificate for first place. $ 15 gift certificate for second place. — Mulligans(a get-out-of-jail-free card if you don’t know an answer to a question) can be purchased for $ 1 each. Assets: — Questions are homemade(except the puzzle round). — Well, it IS trivia… Problems: — Quiz master does little to facilitate group interaction. Personality is unforgivably reticent and unenthusiastic. — There are problems with the manner in which questions are asked. Many questions posed contained WAY too much information, reading more like definitions from a high school textbook. Others were nearly nonsensical and must be parsed.(i.e. This university’s team name is also a bear. — There are problems with thought put into category composition.(1) Eight full questions of fourth grade multiplication problems? I don’t care if it IS Ohm’s law. I don’t care if I did get them all right. Trivia is not the same thing as solving math problems.(2) Eight full questions on ONETV show? Doing a fully themed quiz is one thing. However popular, this type of concentration takes the concept of double jeopardy to an absurd degree. — Trivia should not be freemium. The concept of pay-to-play invasion is frankly repulsive. I honestly can’t think of a game of trivia I’ve enjoyed less anywhere, but as one-star ratings are reserved for DJ Trivia and its multiple choice ilk, this bad boy gets a two. 2 stars overall

The blizzard caused a half a snow day! Yay for me! Conlon’s was opened, of course! I highly recommend the roasted turkey sandwich on a pretzel roll with smoked tomato mayo. It’s delicious! The sweet potato fries are fresh and homemade. Beer cheese soup highly recommended !!! we also had Game Bird Red from heron hill vineyards, red dry nice flavor. We will return(many times). Every Saturday there is a Guinness drawing– sign up during the week. Tuesday dollar off mug club. First Tuesday of the month is free Buffett for the mug club member. Enjoy!!!

Call us heathens for ordering wings on the first Friday of Lent, but the bf and I were craving wings BADLY for a few weeks. Being non-Catholic in WNY can sometimes be a curse during Lent. Certain small pub restaurants, for example, don’t serve all of their meat options on Fridays until after 9. I love a fish fry every now and then, but we were after wings and wings only. As much as I love Anchor Bar, Gabriel’s Gate, and 9 – 11, I really wanted to try something new. Alas, we decided upon Conlon’s. Nestled on the Abbott Road strip near Milford St, Conlon’s looks pretty nondescript from the exterior. Street parking was no issue — parked on Milford with ease, and I saw a few spots on Abbott as well. Upon entering, I definitely got the feel that this was a neighborhood bar. It was packed, and all of the people seemed to know each other. Admittedly, I did feel a bit out of place. The wait was about 20 minutes. After a few minutes of standing around, we decided to squeeze ourselves against the bar to order some drinks. The bf got a Smithwick’s Red Ale and I ordered the Great Lakes Conway Irish Ale. The total was $ 8.50, but when we tried to pay with card, they wouldn’t let us close the tap unless it was at least $ 10. Thankfully we had cash(but I was thinking I could have just ordered a whiskey shot to put it over $ 10 if necessary). Our name was called, and we got our table. The upper dining area is small(about 7 tables). Our waiter, Brett, was very bubbly and hilarious. We ordered the HOUSEMEDIUM wings. I say house medium, because these are different from the regular medium. From what I understand, these are more commonplace in South Buffalo. They use a unique blend of spices in the sauce; not your typical Frank’s Red Hot and butter. They almost come out looking like BBQ wings. We also ordered a basket of the pub fries(potato wedges, basically). For $ 11.99 we got 18 wings. Not a bad deal. The pub fries were tasty and well seasoned, but the wings were phenomenal. They were extremely crispy, piping hot, and plump. And the sauce. Oh heavens, the sauce. It was fantastic. I loved the spice blend. I know I tasted clove, but I couldn’t identify what else was in it other than the fact that it was spicy and delicious. The bf thinks they were a bit over-sauced, but I didn’t have too much of an issue. For medium wings they seemed pretty hot, but it was a spice from the different SPICES, not just pepper sauce. In that aspect, I really enjoyed the unique and tasty twist. Overall, I was super impressed. This is definitely a neighborhood bar, but the staff was extremely friendly and the food was awesome. I will certainly be back to showcase these wings to others, because man was I impressed! I’d love to return to try some of their other menu as well but after the wings, it will be difficult to order something else!

I’ve recently been on a journey to find some of the tastiest wings in Buffalo and finding myself in South Buffalo, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to give Conlon’s a try(thanks Dan K for the suggestion!). Truth be told, it wasn’t my first choice. I still haven’t had a chance to try wings from Nine-Eleven tavern(which was nearby), but Nine-Eleven wasn’t accepting take out orders at 6pm on a Friday night and the man on the phone told me it would be an hour till I got my wings if I came inside. I called Conlon’s and they said 20 minutes for take out, no problem. Placed my order and drove up to the bar and it was packed. All the tables were full and there was only one or two empty seats at the bar, but low and behold. my wings were ready! I was excited to come home and try them. I’m also a fan that they sell them in multiples of 12. For 12 wings, I paid only around $ 8, where at Duff’s or Anchorbar you’d pay $ 11+ for far inferior wings. I didn’t get a chance to check out much of the interior, but it seemed a comfortable place to hang out with friends after work and even get a table and grab a bite. Not surprisingly, it proclaims to be an Irish bar in the Irish-district of Buffalo. I’m not quite sure what makes one an Irish bar(lots of Guinness.?), but the place seemed like a legit neighborhood bar, definitely worth making a trip out for if you don’t live in the area. The wings I gruesomely consumed when I got home confirmed it. They were incredible! I ordered the medium wings and when I saw them, at first I thought they messed up my order up because the sauce looked darker and more BBQish, but after biting into them, I confirmed they were definitely their version of medium, which was actually pretty hot! The spice on these babies built up fast, which was awesome, but if you’re averse to spicy food, maybe opt for the mild. They were perfectly crispy and with a generous portion of meat on each wing. There was a ton of flavor in each one, with spices I couldn’t specifically make out(but Dan K claims they have nutmeg in them among other flavors), well whatever they contained, one thing is for certain: they are delicious and among the best I’ve tried in Buffalo to date. I would without a hesitation recommend Conlon’s to those looking for crispy, delectable wings. Skip Duff’s and Anchorbar and check out some of the smaller local spots! Many will surprise you and some may even blow your taste buds out of the water. Conlon’s surely did.

When I first started going to this bar in 2011, I just thought of it as another South Buffalo bar. I gave this place a four star review and didn’t think much more of it. After two years of coming here, I can safely say that Conlon’s is now my favorite bar in Buffalo. The food and the service are the strongest points for Conlon’s. Dan is a wonderful cook and has created a solid bar menu. You can come here for a drink and some quick pub grub, or you can come here with your family at dinner to get a full meal. The clientele is another positive for them as I have never really had any«trouble» with any of the other patrons, nor have I felt bothered by a drunkard’s behavior. Their events are also great. I’ve walked with them in the St. Patrick’s Day parade for the last two years and had an amazing time. So consider this an update and upgrade to my previous review. While Conlon’s is not the biggest establishment or in the best neighborhood, it’s worth going to. It has great food, great staff, great owners, and a great community.

This is a good divey bar-restaurant in South Buffalo. The smiles are warm and the wait staff friendly. The food is pretty good; the shepherds pie has real ground lamb so it’s authentic!(Traditionally, cottage pie=beef; shepherds pie=lamb). Wings are good too. It IS more of a blue light drinker’s bar than a Guinness-lovers place, however. I don’t live around the corner from Conlons so it’s not my neighborhood bar and I probably don’t have the same affection for it that others may have. To me, it’s an okay bar in South Buffalo with decent food and friendly staff.

I don’t usually re-review places unless something has made me take notice. Well we ordered some take-out from here the other night and they definitely made me take notice. Family was hungry and they are around the corner so we figured we’d place a pick up order. Wife wanted their ribs, got mac n cheese for the kids, and I decided on trying their wings. They said 40 minutes for the order and I guess that’s because good things come to those who wait. Pick-up was seamless, walked in, told bartender was here for pick-up and got out just as quick.(while waiting I had a chance to check out whats on tap too. Great selection. Saw Pyramid Snow Cap seasonal, something from Firestone Walker, Goose Island, LongTrail IPA…) Walked the food home and started to dig in. Now first thing I noticed while opening things up was the amazing smell of both the ribs and the wings. I got the wings done in their«house» style, which I am pretty sure is known in South Buffalo as «Smitty» style. It’s their own mix of spices with a bit of Nutmeg if I am not mistaken. Either way they were amazing. I rarely order wings outside of getting them with Pizza, but these South Buffalo pubs have me thinking differently. I was highly impressed with Doc Sullivan’s wings just down the road from Conlon’s, but these may just take the cake. Hands down some of the best wings in the city. I was actually able to save a couple for the next day and they were just as good cold too. The rest of the food was also very good though. Ribs were fall off the bone, smoky goodness, with a tiny bit of spiciness to them as well. Mac n Cheese was also tasty, although not good for the kids as it has jalapeño in it. Used a nice large shell pasta with crumbs sprinkled on the top though So in all I bumped these guys up another star due to the wings being some of the best I have ever had, the beer selection, and the fact that it has a nice local pub atmosphere at the bar. While waiting for the food I noticed it, and after tasting the wings, I can see myself making this my local watering hole very easily.
