1 word terrible! As I write this my stomach is hurting. Ordered the spicey chicken but received the burnt chicken. I travel a lot and go to many restaurants. I never write any reviews but this place is truly lousey. The service was good though.

I came here based on previous reviews. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. I was pleasantly surprised a delicious salad came with my roll. My roll however, was falling apart and soggy. When I asked about it the sushi chef said: that’s because it’s spicy tuna. I’ve never had that happen anywhere else. They offered to remake it but I just ate the fish on top instead.

I decided to try this place based on the reviews here. I definitely enjoyed the food and the service. From the moment you step in, you are greeted and asked whether you want Teppanyaki, sushi bar, or table. I chose the sushi bar. After they take your drink order, they give you a hot towel to clean up, then you get wasabi, ginger, a small bowl of vegetables, and edamame. I then proceeded to place my order with the chef, who was very friendly and accommodating. Even though he was busy with table orders, he never forgot about me and patiently waited for me to order and even asked me how everything was. The price is a little more expensive than other places I’ve gone to, but it’s definitely worth it. I will definitely come back here.

The raw fish here is always fresh. There are tons of rolls and dinners to choose from. You can also have teppan style cooking too. We had tuna sashimi it was delicious, we also ordered regular sushi for a change flavorful and again fresh. The servers and sushi chefs were all attentive and friendly.

Wanted to try a new sushi spot from our normal meal at Sushi Planet in Camarillo. Saw lots of high ratings for Yama and decided to check it out. Brought a co-worker along with my boss. Lots of seating, quiet, and comfy! Was recommended the Kevin, Tony Special, Tony Jr., and Alaska rolls from our server. Each of the rolls were delicious. Sushi chefs are definitely very generous with their fish. Rolls had big chunks of fish which I enjoyed. My boss had mentioned to me how he really enjoyed Yama Sushi. I will definitely return!

Great sushi! I was enjoying lunch on Xmas eve to prepare myself for some last minute shopping and a piece of Tuna arrived from the markets, biggest SOB piece of fish I’ve ever seen, must of weighed 40 lbs. I wish he offered me a piece as I was in awe :) Been there a few times and I will definitely be back, highly recommended.

This place is probably the best place to get sushi in Camarillo. It’s so fresh! Even when they’re busy they get your food to you in good time. I highly recommend the VIP roll. Basically spicy tuna poke on top of a California roll. I’ve been going here for years.

Anyone who hasn’t try this restaurant, please do. I’ve never encountered such fresh sushi before and the chefs are so polite, entertaining. I never had a dull moment while enjoying an extremely great ambiance. I come here all the time, for years actually and it never disappoints me. This is by far my favorite restaurant. They also have great lunch specials and deals. I would give it 10 stars if it was possible. I totally recommend this restaurant.

Been coming here for some time now and we really like the food here. The Chefs are super friendly and even celebrate with you on special occasions. We have been coming here so long that its like coming home to family. The food is fresh and the rolls are a good size and do not look like most other places that have just different variations of California rolls. Personal favorites are the Terry roll, Tony Jr and the Salmon skin roll or salad. Oh yeah, dont forget the large Saporro.

I used to live across the street and would go here on a very regular basis. Now that I’ve moved to Ventura, I still come back here on a VERY regular basis. By far the best sushi in Ventura County. The quality of the fish is unmatched and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Tony and his sushi chef’s are some of the best and you get no better value as their rolls are huge. Great selection of sakes and when your looking for something other than Sushi, the Teppan Grills are just as impressive.

It’s so hard to find great sushi in this day and age. I say this knowing that sushi is everywhere and there are plenty of reputable, popular spots that have rave reviews. Most of them are good, few are very good but hardly any are great to me, when it comes to sushi. What sets apart the great from the rest? It comes down to who has access to and first dibs to the BEST quality fish and seafood, and where these stocks originate from. Natural, wild and organic matters a lot in these times we live in, even more so with sushi. Bringing this context into my review, there is no doubt when I say that Yama Japanese has great sushi because(1) I know they get their hands on the BEST quality seafood in SoCal and(2) the owner/chef is masterful in his preparation of sushi and he makes it with pride and with love. I tasted the difference and I will be back for more.

They have such a wide selection of premium fish(e.g. Amberjack, Pink Snapper, Toro, Live Sweep Shrimp, etc.). If you go, you must try all of these. Actually, just tell the chefs to give you what they recommend lol

You walk in and greeted in traditional manner… it’s a bit dingy… ceiling tiles are dirty and stained. The selection of various rolls are generous, I think on average maybe a dollar or two more expensive than other places in camarillo. The Udon is on average 4 $ more than other places in camarillo(for plain udon/noodles). The bill is vague and only shows the amount, not the items. .I have, in the past been over billed and had to rectify the issue, which takes time secondary to not being itimized. The sushi chefs are pleasant and amicable, however, one in general appears to be fending off a persistent cold… kinda gross. They have a couple of young people who are servers and are attentive and kind. Because the roll selection is better than most places in camarillo I find myself going back from time to time, however I must admit, what once was arguably one of the best sushi restaurants in town(previous owners). Now rates only 2 stars in my humble opinion.

My family has decided this is our favorite Japanese place in town, so I thought I better rate it. My husband loves their rolls and I think their tempura is the best. We have been coming here for years and my little girls also love it. Their service is efficient and friendly.

Good sushi, unfortunately service was not great. The cook/boss yelled @ the waitress. Client perception is everything, he should have waited or pulled them aside to have the conversation.

Right as you walk in Tony and the rest of the sushi chefs greet you with some saying in Japanese. Place is average size, sushi bar sits like 20 and about 13 booths with the other half of the restaurant for large parties where they cook in front of u. Service is excellent. If ur a regular they make it a point to welcome u back or nice to c you again gesture. Servers are quick to refill drinks and ask a few times how everything is. Plates are mismatch styles of colors and designs which is pretty typical for ur sushi bars. Pretty pricey for a party of three where I spent about $ 100 which does include tip. But it was worth it. Sushi taste fresh, a lot of rice sometimes around the roll pieces but still rice was flavorful.

They have a wide selection of sushi rolls, but a small menu for kitchen entrees. If you don’t eat fish, you don’t have a variety of choices. They make their sushi with a touch of wasabi smeared between the rice and cut of fish. I’m not the biggest fan of this preparation, but I heard it’s the traditional way… just in case you’re into that. Everything I had was good and average, I was just not a fan of the prices. The service was friendly, and the food came out in a timely manner.
