Pros: delicious food, fresh fish(at least it seems so), and fast service. The usual variety of sushi rolls with a few house specials. Cons: small restaurant, but I didn’t mind it. Not the best interior but the food made up for it. Bluf: will be a return customer on future trips to the area :)

Servers are very kind and friendly all of them are Korean. Ordered the sushi boat for 3 people and we ended up leaving very full with some leftovers. Sushi tasted very good and fresh. I wish i knew about this sushi restaurant before! We had complimentary dumplings and edamame before our sushi arrived and orange sliced at the end of our meal. The dumplings were so good I wish i ordered more of them. We also had the miso soup which didn’t have that much miso flavoring it tasted more like water to me. Other than that the food was great.

My sister and I’s favorite sushi spot in nova(so far)! But seriously, their sushi is always fresh and delicious, and the service is pretty awesome too. Plus you get small plates of edamame and dumplings on the house. They’re usually crowded and there may be a little wait, but it’s so worth it!

We stop by this place today. When we came it was completely full, but we were seated in like 5 minutes on a newly created set of tables. The waiter was nice. I ordered sushi rolls(Alex and Phoenix) and my husband ordered some sort of beef/veggie dish. Sushi was pretty good. Cant say that it the best i’ve eat, but just good. Their prices are very reasonable. And a mango ice cream is yammy. If I will be in the area, i’ll be considering coming here again.

Really liked it. It’s more like 4.5 stars in my book, because there is no draft beer, and I don’t think that crab sticks are a legitimate ingredient. We were able to substitute spicy tuna in place of California rolls. The eel udon was really good. Haven’t been to Japan, but it seemed authentic, for example, though this may be deemed an irrelevant detail, it seemed that many of the staff came from Japan. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Sake can be a good substitute for beer, and they do have bottled beer in addition to tea.

If I could give this place more stars I would! The food was absolutely delicious, we had miso soup, matsu balls, and different types of sushi but our favorite was the Fire Sushi! We forgot to take pictures of the food but we did get a picture of our tempura banana dessert… so good! The service was amazing, I definitely recommend this place. The best sushi I have had in this area.

Since I live very close to Matsu, I have been able to frequent this sushi place often. There are a couple of sushi places in Centreville that I like and Matsu is definitely one of them. Place: located in Centreville, on Stone Road off Rt. 29. The resturant is nice and small in a shopping plaza. Food: they have served complimentary edamme a couple of times as part of their appetizer along with miso soup and salad. Sushi has been really good and fresh! You can seat in the bar area and watch the sushi chef create the dishes. Service: Everytime I have been here, the service has been great, the staff is friendly. One of my go to sushi places!

Best SUSHI place in Northern Virginia. Great quality and service. Every roll we’ve had has been delicious. Our favorites rolls are rainbow, spicy tuna and toro. Very reasonable price! It’s never overly crowded

I am surprised how good the sushi is here. My bf suggested that we go get sushi at Matsu since he used to frequent this restaurant long ago and it’s close to his parents house. Sushi was fresh and delicious and the staff were really tentative. A true gem in Centreville if you want to get your sushi fix.

This place is small and gets super busy on the weekends. The staff are very nice though. They are Korean here, not Japanese. I have tried various dishes here ranging from different kinds of sushi to their rice dishes and udon. As an appetizer, they give you complimentary edamame and fried dumpling. The fried dumplings aren’t that great, but it’s free so why not. I love snacking on their edamame. I definitely recommend this place to try out. Their sushi has always been fresh to me each time I went. I have not had any problems with any of the food or customer service.

It was a pleasant surprise to find a good quality Sushi restaurant in Centreville. Food was good. Staffs are friendly. We ordered Sashimi Omakaze and it was definitely worth every penny. Rolls and nigiris are tad too sweet for my taste. The waitresses could actually time what’s coming out from the kitchen so that patrons can pace themselves. They were too busy bringing everything out at once which can get really overwhelming.(i.e udons can come out after sushi. Sushi and rolls can wait until after sashimi was done) If they actually could time it right it can really be a 5-star sushi place. I think this place is by far the best sushi place in VA.(please don’t make your sushi rice too sweet)

Unfortunately after last nights meal here I am going to update with one less star from my last review. I almost want to give only 2 stars but this place has been pretty consistent in the past and im pretty disappointed. We’ve eaten here at least 6 – 7 times and last night will make it hard to go back for me. We walked in and were seated pretty quickly as usual. When we sat down we were asked about drinks, I was with one other person and we ordered 2 waters and a large hot sake. When the sake came to our table I immediately said something to my boyfriend. When I picked it up to pour I could feel a difference. It was extremely light and like I said we have been here plenty before and usually it is filled to the top. It literally was filled like halfway, completely skimped us and we didnt even order a second one for that reason. Also since we have come here a bunch before normally for appetizer they give you edemame and 2 fried dumplings, they did not give us the dumplings last night. Not a big deal but slightly annoying(this is the first time they have not given them) Onto our sushi rolls. We ordered a vegas roll, spicy yellow tail, lobster roll, a philly roll, spider roll, and mackeral nigiri. The mackeral was absolutely disgusting, so bad I couldnt even finish the one bite I took and I left the other half for them to take. So salty and tasted like it was rotting. It was so bad, not sure what happened but we both love mackeral and have ordered it many times before and this was inedible. The other rolls really disappointed us as well, they were sloppily put together and the rice wasn’t cooked good and it was just very off last night. The only thing good about this meal was that I had good company. Both of us did not enjoy the meal last night and we were both pretty bummed because normally we are always really happy with matsu. It will make it pretty hard for me to come back again but eventually I will to give it another try and hopefully will not be disappointed again like last night.

It’s been a year since I last stopped here, mainly because I live across the country. Hamachi Kama — this was the confusing part… it wasn’t a great rendition of the dish, but it had some redeeming grace. It was burnt and almost dry, but strangely enough moisture and crisp that it was decent. Hamachi kama should be juicy, but not from the deep fried oils, but from its natural fat. The collarbone is one of the most fatty parts of the fish. It was placed on a soy-based sauce and usually the sauce should be of lighter note. Disappointedly, there wasn’t even a slice of lemon to drizzle across the fish, which is standard at every place I’ve been at that serves this thus far. Salmon Lover Combo — great repertoire of salmon. Sake is one of my favorite pieces of nigiri that I save for last. You get a spicy salmon/cucumber roll, salmon nigiri, salmon roll, and three slices of salmon sashimi. The salmon nigiri was fatty at one end which lended good texture, but freshness was lacking a bit. Chicken Tempura — haha so after I finished my meal, my sister had a few pieces of chicken left. I took one and bit of about 1⁄3 of the piece. Lo’ and behold, THECHICKENISPINK. There’s a slight firmness to it, but it was discernibly not pink. At this point, the meal was almost over, so I didn’t bother to alert the kitchen. The tempura, however, was really crispy. Nevertheless, the service is great from what I remember. Maybe less so, if you’re in the private dining room in the back. You’re less likely to get water/tea refills.

A nice gem! Overheard the workers talking in Japanese. You know what that means. Authentic food, coming up! Food — liked the dynamite rolls. I had to order it, cause it has baked scallops on top. The naruto roll was refreshing, instead of seaweed paper, it’s sliced cucumbers. Their beef negimaki was alright, not too spectacular. Maybe it was overwhelmingly dripped in the sauce? The katsu don(pork, rice, and eggs), was okay. I was expecting a different style the don. However, the taste is good. They gave a complimentary app for some gyoza like dumpling and they were pleasantly tasty. Service — The waitress was friendly and nice. She remembered our order without writing down what we said. Other staff members were helpful, helping each other out to bring out the food. Good teamwork. Price — As with all sushi places, they are a little on the pricy side. $ 12 for the special rolls. Sorry, I don’t want to make up any numbers here. Bottom line: I’ve been dying to go to this place, and I’ve bookmarked this. Finally got to go, due to my sushi craving and it was my son’s 1 year birthday. A great treat for us! Will definitely be back!

Have dined here several times and never disappointed. The maguro is always fresh, buttery and melts in your mouth. The yakisoba, either beef or chicken, are always delicious, full of flavor and just the right size. Best in the Centreville area.

Came here with my bf because he loves sashimi and a friend of mine highly recommended this place. We had spicy tuna roll, some variation of special shrimp tempura roll, sashimi, and tonkatsu with rice. I’m allergic to seafood, so I only had some of the shrimp tempura roll(I love shrimp and will take zyrtec for it!) and the katsu. The bf had all the rest. He loved it, saying that the fish was cut well and fresh, but not blown away. I liked my shrimp tempura roll… I didn’t have any serious allergic reaction afterwards, which usually indicates that the shrimps were fresh. I loved the spicy mayo that came on top. Flavorful but not overwhelming. The katsu was good but nothing special. I think the katsu sauce was a bit too strong. We sat at the bar and watched the sushi chef cut fish as their orders were just coming in. It was awesome! The service was on point and not intruding, which is always good in my book. They made a mistake in our order, but they had amazing customer service and went above and beyond to make up for it. Overall, good food, great service, and we will be back.

Absolutely favorite Sushi place. I always go for the lunch box combos which come with a variety of things such as tempura, udon, Cali rolls, teriyaki, etc. It’s also all under about $ 12. The ladies who work there are kind and considering the amount of times I come in — they remember me too. I absolutely love this place, forever my go to. The pictures hanging up are kind of weird but you get past it after the first time. They also have this really good fried dumpling type of thing called matsu balls. Ugh, yes please more. It’s also only $ 3 for 6 of them. But fair warning: they do close at 2:30 for lunch which is their only downside.

After several years of haitus from this place I decided to give it another shot today for lunch. I sat myself in the bar as to get a first hand view of what the sushi chefs were crafting. I ordered their sashimi assorted and a fatty tuna handroll. There was no price printed for the fatty tuna, in the end I was charged $ 13 for a handroll. Exorbitant don’t you think? The sashimi slices were thick and huge so I guess that is a plus. Service is still the bomb.

I came here with a friend during lunch break. I’m a huge fan of sushi and this place is a gem. It’s probably the best sushi restaurant in centreville. The miso soup and salad were fantastic! The soup was not like the average soy soup but actual miso. The salad dressing was amazing. For my meal, I got sashimi and they just melt in your mouth. Super delicious and friendly servers! It is owned by Koreans. So they have dolsot bibimbap on the menu. I highly recommend this restaurant!!!
