I brought my husband here as a surprise to him, since he LOVES Indian food. This«treat» for the«big man» made him a very happy man indeed — he ate all of his food plus all of mine,(apparently, my eyes are bigger than my stomach)! We also had lamb non(which is yummy and interesting, all at the same time), regular non, some appetizer with meat in it and our regular meal. It was more food than my belly could handle or my husband’s sinuses, because he got a spice level 6 out of 6,(and 6 = really hot/spicy here). I got a level 2 and that was spicy enough for me.

Service was a little rushed, but they explained they were shorthanded, so it might not be a problem normally. Food was excellent! We had the veggie samosas, plain nan(some of the best I’ve ever had), chicken jalfrezi, and chicken vindaloo. My husband loves spicy and I’m a wimp, but we were both pleased with the flavor of our dishes. Highly recommended!

Fantastic! My husband and I ordered a vegetarian appetizer platter and split a vegetarian combo for our entrée. Everything was so phenomenal and flavorful, and the service was very good and quick. There was more than enough food for the 2 of us. We each had 2 beers and our check was less than $ 40. Will DEFINITELY be back again and again!

My husband and I decided to try Royal Taj tonight due to a recommendation. We both love Indian food, so we were excited. It’s a small place, but there were about 5 tables of people and only 1 server and possibly 2 cooks. We were seated, given a drink, and then ignored. There was another couple with a baby that came in(we also had our 7 mo old) about 10 minutes after us, and they had their order taken and still we sat… now it’s been 20 minutes. AGAIN, the place isn’t big. He couldn’t miss ys. He visited every other table numerous times, except ours, within those 20 minutes. We finally were so aggravated, we threw drink money on the table and left to go elsewhere. It wasn’t like it was packed. We may try again, because the food looked and smelled awesome, but we’ll see. If I could give them no stars for this experience, I would.

Average food, poor customer service. Ordered vegetable samosas, chicken shahi korma, and roti for take out. Person on the phone did not understand roti, so explained it was wheat nan or per their website«chapati». Spice level 5 out of 6. Picked up food, tipped $ 3, but once we got home we realized there was no sauce or chutney for samosas and there were two orders of roti(also charged for two orders) when we ordered one. Food was average. Decent spice level but rice and roti were under-cooked. Not much flavor beyond spice for the chicken shahi korma. We called and explained the errors, the manager said there was a new person who packed the order, asked if we were close and said he misheard on how many orders of roti. I said I wasn’t close and couldn’t come back to pick up and he just hung up on me. Lovely. There are at least two other Indian restaurants within one mile, no need to choose this one of average quality and poor service.

This place is absolutely amazing! My fiancé talked me into trying Indian food for the first time and we tried the buffet. Now, I can’t stop going. I have lunch here at least once a week! The buffet is only $ 7 per person which is a STEAL! They have so much on their buffet and their deserts change every week. The food is always made fresh and everything tastes fresh every time I go there. Even when i get takeout, the food tastes just as good. The pricing is amazing. All of the food you get is worth the money. Also, they have something similar to repeater eater cards and for every 6 dinners or lunch buffets you buy, you get one free. The staff is a family who make the food fresh from scratch every single day. I will not go to any other Indian restaurant because they simply can’t live up to the expectation of this one! It’s a must try! The chicken Tikka Masala is my favorite, spice level 3(out of 6,) and Naan bread. AMAZING!!!

We went here for a birthday dinner and the food was good. The service was good. We were surprised that we’d been eating at the peasant Taj restaurant, near Macy’s, when there’s a Royal Taj restaurant. Well, this place was good, but we didn’t think as good. We recently went a second time and it was good, but just not really good. I’d say go to the peasant Taj. This restaurant is okay, though. Like if this were the only Indian restaurant around, I’d be happy. My comrade is a big fan of Royal Taj. She’s never tasted plain, old Taj, though. So whatever. It’s good. You’ll enjoy it. I wouldn’t say no to eating here, but I wouldn’t go out of my way.

Very dirty walls and table cloths. Service was also very slow as they tended to ALL to go and call in orders before any of the 3 tables they had in the restaurant. Ordered as we entered after getting our own menus and then waited over an hour for food. The food was a 3 star but the service and cleanliness pushed it to a 1. We will search out some of the excellent Indian food in Clifton.

I was excited to try a new place for chicken curry in Cincinnati for myself and my two kids. Unfortunately, the chicken curry was not nearly as good as what I’ve enjoyed from Krishna, Taj Indian and Deep India. Hate to say it, but it was almost like eating spicy tomato and rice soup with chicken thrown in. The rice was more oriental in terms of being very moist and puffy than what I’ve come to expect at other Indian restaurants. What Royal Taj serves may be more authentic — I honestly don’t know — but I won’t be going back there for chicken curry anyway.

We went during lunch for their lunch buffet was very subpar. The food was decent if you’re looking for authentic Indian — but 1⁄3rd of the buffet foods were missing and not refilled in a timely manner throughout our visit. More than likely will not come back

We had a large group and they brought out half of the food and had to make the rest while we waited. Then when the check came out he acted like he was confused and didn’t want to split it up. Terrible service and awful Indian food. I only got a level 3 and it tasted like they poured a bottle of hot sauce in it. If u want a better experience with better food, go to Indian Bistro or Baba India.

Samplers are good. No music. A bit lacking in verve on a Friday night. Slow service on a very slow night. Probably best to get it to go.

Not as good as the other Indian places around Anderson, in both quality and price. Good service, decent taste, 3rd best option in the neighborhood.

The candle dish was the best part of the meal. The Saag was dark brown and over seasoned. The curry was a strange tang and the veggies didn’t taste right. The rice is decent but that’s just your filler. The price is 10 – 15 as usual and the lunch buffet is $ 6.99 but I won’t be back to be fooled by the enticing price, make the trip to Clifton! I’m sure people stay in the Anderson bubble instead of getting their money worth at a real Indian cuisine restaurant.

It hits the spot like no other on the Eastside. If you’ve never eaten Indian food, try a samosa(meat or vegetarian), the chicken tiki marsala, some garlic naan and say welcome to flavor town. The a Royal Sampler is a great way to introduce yourself to various flavors if you are ready to go the next step.

Saag was tomato-based, samosa was mustardy and jalfrezi was weird. We are seasoned Indian food lovers and this place missed the mark for us.

I know that Clifton is the mecca of Indian food, but this place in Anderson gives them a run for their money. I only got carry out on a cold snowy night. I ordered my chicken tikka masala at a 3. It was perfect for me. When I picked up my order, the owner was so nice! I was a happy girl!

The food is not as good as it used to be; and the bathroom could be a little cleaner. The owner or owner’s son could use an attitude adjustment; very rude. Although, all of the employees seem nice. We frequented them for several years until last year.

Service/food were fantastic! Went with a group of friends and they were slammed w carry out orders and patrons. Although it took a min to get our good, the waiter and waitress were so sweet and attentive. I got the mixed veggies, while my friends had the chicken curry. The food was delicious. Definitely will come back.

Right off the bat, I’ll admit that four stars is a bit of a stretch for Royal Taj. But let me explain: Anderson Township is pretty much a restaurant wasteland, and, if you’re hungry, Beechmont can feel like a depressing and endless trail of chain monotony and mediocrity. This is a community that recently lost what was probably the best Middle Eastern restaurant in the whole Cinci area, Café Mediterranean, apparently because the A.T. crowd couldn’t pry themselves away from the chains. If you’re looking for anything independent and just slightly off the beaten culinary track, you’re going to feel like screaming in frustration after surveying your A.T. options. Royal Taj is one of the few bright spots, which is why I give it a little extra boost. Royal Taj is one of the few Indian places outside of Ludlow’s Indian row that isn’t operated by the Ambar/Baba folks. This means that the buffet has some change-ups from what you might get at those places: veggie somosas, goat curry, pappadam, etc. The food is quite good but I wouldn’t call it wonderful.(I rate Hyde Park Plaza’s Shaan four stars also, but if Shaan is a strong-four-approaching-five, Royal Taj might be slight cut above a three-and-a-half; call this another lament about the absence of half-star ratings on Unilocal.) The décor is pretty forgettable and maybe bordering on shabby. And you might hit your head on the low-hanging modern-ish light fixtures if you’re not careful. The service is entirely competent but doesn’t really stand out. Royal Taj now has Indian-restaurant competition down Beechmont with the recent opening of Indian Bistro. Time will tell if both can survive out here…
