Awesome burgers, Cajun was really good. Service was very good too. It is inside Froggy’s so don’t walk past.

Burger was good and juicy, bun was not too puffy but nice and crispy. This place doesn’t get too busy to the point where you can’t find an extra seat at the bar. I’d recommend coming here for a bite to eat.

I do not normally eat a many burger places but when I do I always seem to order with a little kick! I ordered the Mexi-Cali Burger which was cooked perfectly, spiced well and came with salsa! Of course I added fries to my order and also a couple beers. This place is a great hang out spot for any college student in the area. Their burger selection was pretty good and I cant wait to try the aloha burger next time(It has yummy pineapple on top!) I also really loved the laid back atmosphere. I also loved that the buns were well buttered and crispy! such a great burger spot in Davis – cant wait to try them out again! :)

Nice people but average food. Beer selection was limited. The fries were the best part of our meal.

Tommy J’s, which many people may not know, is also a part of Froggys! Now veterans of Davis have debated which burger joint is truly superior: tommy Js or Burgers and Brew. I have decided f*ck burgers and brew and eat at tommys. Tommy Js burgers are juicy, big and absolutely delicious. They are the definition of comfort food and are sorta awesome after a night of drinking. I came here with a large group of friends and we had a great time. I ordered the blue cheese bacon burger with a side of fries. My friends were also able to sub in tots instead of fries free of charge too. The burgers are packed with goodness and surprisingly did not get sloppy or messy! I would come back here again in the future! Pros of Tommy J — better service than BnB — more greasy and delicious burgers Cons — the restaurant is half bar so beware it is not a typical sit down joint

Personally, this is my favorite burger joint in Davis! I’ve tried their Southern Cali and Swiss N Shroomer Burgers, both of which are delicious! Their burgers are HUGE! I always ask for my burgers to be cooked medium and I’ve never been disappointed. The meat is juicy and the cheese is perfectly melted onto the patty. The additional toppings they give you include pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, and onions. All of these are put on the side of the burger though so you can just add what you want. The ambience is pretty chill. There’s a bar inside the restaurant so if you come after 9pm, people are usually drinking there. It’s good for big and loud groups, especially if you want to watch a sports game. Overall, I find myself constantly coming back to Tommy J’s.

I decided to try this place because of its great reviews instead of going to Burgers and Brew. I can tell you, it was not worth it. The environment is nasty, dirty and smells like beer. It’s a beer joint with food. Do not come here if you want a good burger. I ordered a Cali burger and it was $ 12 with a salad. I usually get a burger or steak sandwich at burgers and brew for 10 with a much better salad. Let’s get to the burger, it was bland and the fries were completely over salted. Overall, go to burgers and brew any day of the week over this place.

Buns are buttered and crispy. Jalapeño burger actually has a lot of jalapeños. And their meat is seasoned nicely! Way better than Burgers and Brew. I really like this place even though it is kinda pricey for a burger. But it’s very filling and delicious :)

Really? .49 per ranch cup even when I’m buying a $ 10 burger and $ 10 worth of beer? What a ridiculous and shameful policy. Tommy Js makes the best burger in Davis, but this type of nickel and dime behavior really leaves an extremely bad taste in my mouth.

The Mushroom Burger with the garden patty is still probably the best vegetarian burger I have ever had in my life. I dream about it sometimes…

Burgers are delicious. DONOT expect a health conscious experience. It was tough for me to accept the grease dripping from my extremely satiating California Burger. Even my friend(who usually throws out the burger Patty half way through) devoured his bacon cheeseburger. So basically extremely delicious and satisfying but I think I gained 5 pounds :-)

Went here for Happy Hour and the prices were great! We got the chicken strips and mozzarella sticks and they didn’t taste like bar food at all– very tasty. I ordered a glass of wine but I didn’t love it, they had no wine selection but then this isn’t really a wine place. The beers were much better. At the end of the night I knocked over a cup of water and felt awful but the waitress didn’t even make me feel bad! Props for great customer service and we’ll definitely be back… without spilling anything, I promise.

O.K. Unilocalers let’s get real with the reviews here. The food is not good and this place comes nowhere close to the quality of Burgers & Brew. Let’s give a break down of what was ordered. First off my daughter ordered a lemonade and Cali burger. The lemonade was without question powdered lemonade which was so off putting we had to return it. The burger itself had a south of the border taste, was very greasy and had bacon that seemed to have been sitting on the grill all day long. I had the Blue Burger Medium Well. The patty was rare in the middle and overall tasteless. This place does not live up to the other reviews and I have to wonder if the reviews were written after a night of drunken rivalry.

NOTHAVEAGAIN: Cajun bacon cheeseburger was ok but not as good as previous burgers. However, my rating is because the service was very odd since we told the server we were ready to order but was told she was taking drink orders only and would be back later to take our food order, which did not happen for almost 15 minutes. We then waited 45 more minutes for our burgers. NEXTTIME: I will be back because I love their bacon cheeseburger

I feel like a lot of people don’t know about Tommy J’s(same as Froggy’s) or think this this place isn’t as good as Burgers & Brew since B&B is usually the go-to spot in Davis for burgers. BUT the burgers here are just as good in my opinion. I always get the Swiss n’ shroomer burger every time! It’s so juicy and flavorful. They serve their burgers kind of open-face style, with the lettuce/onions/tomatoes on the side so you can add as much as you like to your burger. I usually add avocado to my burger too! I love that the avocado is like a guacamole spread instead of just slices of avocados. I know from the outside Tommy J’s/Froggy’s might not look like much, but trust me, you have to try the burgers here at least once! They won’t disappoint.

Bacon Blue burger and the octoberfest stew was on point. Super juicy burger, cooked just right, and the bacon is smokey and thick cut. A big order of fries, nice and crispy. The reviews are spot on. Neck and neck with Burgers and Brew.

Being that I just moved here, I had no idea this was located inside Froggy’s(a popular bar around these parts), and it took us a while to find it on the GPS lol. But once inside, it was pretty bar-like. Self-seated, and the happy hour is a great deal! $ 1 off beers and I believe appetizers as well. I had the most amazing chicken and pesto sandwich. It was served on a sourdough bun, which was toasted lightly and covered with my all-time favorite… pesto. :-) So good. Maybe I’ll get around to trying Froggy’s bar, but so far, Tommy J’s is on point. It’s worth a try, for sure.

Super good for burgers. Maybe tied for best burgers in town, IMO. Friendly service and prompt. Not as jammed as some more«hip» burger places in Davis, but just as high on quality. The burger was so good I forgot to take a picture once I have the first bite. Southern Cali Burger is solid… avocado, bacon and cheese. Can’t beat it.

On the corner of G and 2nd, you can get a meal that will FILL your stomach while surrounded by the swirl of sports bar noise. Tommy J’s offers sandwiches and burgers, along with a selection of beers to its customers. Don’t feel like you’re not welcome if you don’t want to watch sports though. There are only about 5 TVs, and not all the visitors have their eyes glued to them. You can hear the rest of your party speak, but don’t take your significant other here for a romantic, quiet evening. They have an 18% gratuity for parties of 6 or more and you can’t get separate checks. If you need cash, they do have an onsite ATM, although they definitely take cards. One other little bummer is the $ 2 split plate charge. With a seat-yourself set up, you can choose the bar, average tables, or tall tables with bar stools. There was a sweet waitress who served the whole restaurant that Saturday afternoon. She paid great attention to everyone, kept the water glasses full, and checked to see how everyone was faring as they munched on their meals. I got the Southern Cali-Burger($ 10.99), one of their standard ½ lb burgers with tasty chipotle mayo and a slather of smashed avocado. Not only that, there’s bacon and pepper jack cheese. Seriously a delicious combo! Cav got the Jalapeño Burger($ 9.49) with pepper jack cheese, the lovely chipotle mayo, and some flavorful sautéed jalapeños. I loved how they grill the buns so the crunchiness contrasts with the softness of the bread. Also, the burgers are served open faced and you can choose whether you want the proffered lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles on your sandwich. Unfortunately the burgers were very greasy, and as we chowed down, a puddle of grease congealed on our plates. The only other downside we encountered was that on a Saturday afternoon, they were out of the Rogue Hazelnut Brown beer that Cav originally requested. Also the waitress told us you could get French fries, salad, or potato salad with your burger. I asked for the potato salad, but she came back from the kitchen and told me they were out. I’ll have to come back again to try it! The other thing is their fries are just average. There’s nothing special about them(I think Burgers N Brew has better fries). But Tommy J’s does offer a special seasoning at every table, and this seasoning made the fries a lot better! The waitress told us it has cumin, garlic salt, pepper and salt, and Tommy J’s special seasonings! A smashing combo. So don’t forget to sprinkle some on your fries to liven them up. All in all, Tommy J’s in all its sports bar glory serves up a mean burger and some average fries.

By far one of the best burger joints in Davis! It’s up there with Burgers and Brew. And probably one of the better burgers I’ve had in my lifetime. I’ve been here a few times, and tried something different each time… But I think I’ve found the one– the BLUEBACONBURGER. If you love blue cheese as much as I do… You have to get it! Great food, awesome service, and I hear it gets pretty live at night when the kitchen closes down and it’s just the bar. I’ll have to stop by at night sometime!

The review here is not such much about the food as it is about the service. Megan was our server. She’s nice, friendly, polite, fast, knowledgeable and RUNS shit. She was the only server and there were about 10 – 12 tables. This place is known for their burgers and that is what we got. I got the Hawaiian burger. It was delicious, juicy, and filling. She filled my coke up like 3 times in 5 minutes, don’t ask me why I drank so much soda. She is seriously just an awesome server, I can’t put into words how great her service was and how diligent she was about getting our food out on time, refilling our drinks, checking on meal to see how we liked it. She’s really going to be something great someday.

I’m not sure why I’ve held off from reviewing this amazing gem in Davis for this long. The quest for a clam chowder that will satisfy my taste buds has been completed!!! Their food is amazing for a little pub sort of eatery. This little college town is awesome and I found out their clam chowder is homemade… best part about it… there’s bacon. xD Their burgers are satisfying, grilled cheese is amazing… a very chill spot and for a quick lunch or dinner with drinks you will easily spend under $ 15-$ 20 for a full fledged meal. Note: They don’t split checks so if you’re dining with friends bring cash. Otherwise there’s a generic ATM on site.

Oohhh my goodness… …the burgers here are so delicious… The buns are toasted to the perfect temperature and crispness… The meat patty is grilled to your choosing(I get mine medium rare) and come out so juicy and melts in your mouth. My favorites here are the cali burger and shroom burger. Ehh those are really the 2 things that distinguish a good burger from a great burger. You can choose fries or salad on the side. Don’t get the salad, it’s basically the lettuce, tomato, red onions that come with the burger. The fries here are good too. Nice, thick, and crispy. MMmmm. Exceptional service here. Very attentive waitstaff.

I was hesitant about trying this place for so long because I was convinced nothing would beat burgers and brew. I finally came around and I’m glad I did because this place is so great! On Unilocal it shows froggys and tommy j’s, they are the exact same place(notice the same address). The first time I came here, I took a look at the menu and thought it was extremely uninteresting. I had already been served my water, but my friend and I left to burgers and brew anyway. The second time I was here, I stayed and tried the southern Cali burger. It was delicious and now I understand why people love this place! I also tried a bite of my friends mexi-Cali burger and it was equally as good. I want to come back and try their Cajun burger. The thing that makes it special is the bun in my opinion. It’s really crisp so with every bite of your burger, you get this awesome crunch! In conclusion, my heart is torn between froggys and burgers & brew. In a perfect world, I would like the spicy guacamole burger at burgers and brew but made the way froggys makes their burgers UGHTHATSOUNDSSOOOOGOOOOD.

This place stays late every evening until 10PM, and is considered better than Burgers & Brew. I would say that the two places are significantly different, Burgers Brew is more restaurant styled while Tommy J’s is more bar-themed. Burgers are pretty good, toasted buns give the burgers a crispier taste once you chew down. Fries were a bit salty last time I came, but it wasn’t that big of a deal. They have lots of drinks here, so this is a good place to pregame before mojito night :)

What took us so long to finally try Tommy J’s? Husband wanted a burger so I jumped on the opportunity to try a place new to us, even though we’ve lived in town for decades. I’m not really a beef lover and am hesitant to order non-beef food in a burger joint but the California chicken sandwich was delicious. His Swiss and Shroomer burger was huge and cooked to medium perfection. The fries were nice and crisp and kept their crispness throughout our meal. We will be back. We’ve a lot of catching up to do.

Great burger but not legendary. I had to try Tommy J’s because I ignored the hype when I went to UC Davis and dated Burgers and Brew exclusively. I went back to visit for back-to-back burgers. Burgers and Brew and Tommy J’s. I had The Firehouse Burger and wow it’s really good. The bun gets a bit soggy but flavor is king. The buffalo sauce isn’t bad on a burger although I do wish there was more blue cheese. Tommy J’s makes a mean burger, if you want something a little more interesting definitely try the Blue Buffalo or Mexicali. The service here is wayyyy better so if that’s important to you, Tommy J’s is your place! Often times people will debate whether the better burger is at Tommy J’s or Burgers and Brew. After having both I can say confidently that Burgers and Brew has the better traditional burger. If you want something interesting like buffalo sauce in a burger — Tommy J’s is good.
