Worst service I’ve ever had, the only restaurant I’ve walked out of. I used to work in a restaurant, I know how much it sucks to have a table walk out on you. Waited an hour to be told that our order was slightly messed up but should only be another minute. It was an order of 2 cheeseburgers. Waited awhile longer and ended up leaving. Wasn’t very busy, our server stopped by 3 times in an hour. Didn’t even get a soda refill. We tried this place a few thanksgivings ago when we were new to town, it was awful then, but I choked it up to being a holiday. Everybody said its awesome, you gotta try it. I WILLNEVEREATHEREAGAIN!!! There’s a million better places in town to spend your money. Local or visitors beware of this trap!

Good prices on appetizers and drinks during happy hour at the Tavern. Located right beside the Durango-Silverton train station, it is an easy find and popular with tourists and locals alike. Try the outside tables if the weather cooperates for the best people and train watching.

The Palace is a popular restaurant with both locals and tourists, given that it has a sizable menu and a solid location next to the train station. Many prefer to sit outside but when the train comes you can get blasted with smoke, so I usually like to choose a table inside. Our table decided to share a couple appetizers before dinner and we decided on the lemongrass prawns and the ahi tuna. I really enjoyed the prawns which were large, had great flavor, and came with a side of yummy sriracha aioli. The ahi tuna was okay; nothing too special so I probably wouldn’t order it again. It was cute they brought this dish out with chopsticks for us to use though :) I ordered the prime rib for dinner which came with a side salad. The salad at the Palace is always delicious, especially when it is covered in the house dressing which is some sort of herby vinaigrette. The prime rib was a hearty portion, much more than I could finish in one sitting, and it was juicy and perfectly pink. Our server brought us fresh horseradish instead of the creamed which was awesome. The mashed potatoes were creamy and the broccolini were tender but I wish they had added a few more on the plate. The bread we received prior to the appetizers was hard and tasteless which I did not enjoy. Service was not bad, but it took awhile to flag our hostess down to get the check at the end of the meal.

Typical American cuisine. They have a few specials, but when one is sloppy joes, that shows how creative they are. Blah! They are busy over the noon hour. Not health minded. I won’t need to come back.

It was getting late, and the wife and I had a concert to attend. But we wanted to stop somewhere for a quick appetizer. We got to the end of meandering Main Street, and ended up here. We’re just visitors, so this seemed as good as anywhere else. We stopped in and were received very well. The hostess was kind and had us seated, and the server kindly answered all my out of towner questions about Durango. I was appreciative. We got the baked brie appetizer which we both thought was stunning. I wish I had more to report on, but that’s all she wrote. We paid our tab and enjoyed a great show around the block. Stop in, I enjoyed it.

Went there on Prime Rib night. One of the worst prime ribs I have ever had. wen early so it should have been perfect. Nope. tough and without seasoning. On the plus side, the raw horseradish was so mild that you could eat it straight. The baked potato was good.

Oh, Palace. I still love you because you are an institution. But seriously. Terrible service. Completely forgot to put in our appetizers so we never recieved them. Food was just ok. Shrimp overdone, trout very dry. I’ve had the trout before and it was great– this seemed to be completely lacking any sauce? I asked for some butter and lemon, and of course, our waitress never brought any. I know service has always been a crapshoot here, but lately… seems to be always be bad.

We dined here before riding the Polar Express train on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. There were plenty of options for all eight of us and the food was fine. Service was adequate, though not outstanding. But overall we had a good time and everyone left happy.

Yummy place for lunch! I was pleased they would allow me to order from the kid’s menu. This place would be good for a group and service was swift. I feel the place would be great with a little music though. The prices are affordable too!

Have been a fan of the Palace for a long time, and remain one today. I don’t get to eat here as often as I used to, but I try to make sure I do most times when I am in Durango. The location of the Palace is one of the best and worst things about this place. It is right downtown, right next to the train station and that can lead to fun people watching and convenient for many things. That does also lead to there being a flood of confused tourists clogging the front and very loud trains whistling and spewing soot. The food is usually very good, not always the cheapest, but very good on a whole. The happy hour specials are worth checking out, and they have fun special nights especially in the non summer. I highly recommend the Caprese sandwich, especially if you add grilled chicken to it. It isn’t listed, but if you are nice, they will do it for you. Also, Key lime pie, just get it. The service can be a bit hit and miss, usually friendly, can be a bit confused, bar is usually pretty good. The Palace is a staple and has been in Durango for a LONG time, that only happens for a reason, it is good. Check it out.

While the ambiance is nice and near the train station, the food is not what you’d expect. My husband said his pork ribs tasted boiled with sauce poured over. Our son’s kiddie burger was charred and hard as a rock. Only my ginger salmon would I rate as good. I also ordered a drink that I would never order again. We ate on the later side, and the service was slow. Bottom line-there are much better restaurants in Durango.

Stopped for a quick lunch. I Had the Greek salad… And chowder. Both were good. My son ordered the Mac and cheese — was amazing. Service was quick and friendly.

We sat outside and had a very nice experience watching trains return to the station. Food is expensive but a large variety of specials to make it very reasonable. Steak was very good and seasoned perfectly. Salmon was excellent. Chicken and dumplings were good. Hamburger was very good.

We went Tuesday night for the kids $ 2 dinner. Food was not very good. Worst appetizer calamari ever! Chx & dumpling was basically all gravy, with no vegetables. Tiny salad with a steamed piece of salmon for $ 15!!! The kids dinners were better… And them they didn’t discount the kids special, we had to remind them to do it. Overall, not a good experience for a family.

Being in Durango, the Palace located beside the station was an obvious choice for dinner. However, the most enjoyable part of the meal was watching the steam train roll in from Silverton. The staff were friendly if a little incompetent or maybe too eager. Dinner came staggered, my boyfriends salad came before the main which I ended up eating! The mains themselves were a let down. While my boyfriends salmon was nice, there was not enough food on the plate to make a fully informed decision: something we thought would never happen in the States. A great location but the food quantities and service needs to be reviewed.

Great food and great service. We wanted pasta, old school spaghetti and meatballs and the fact is that you can get it in Durango. This place offers a penne pasta with an Italian sausage and that’s what got us here. We calked every Italian restaurant in the area and they are all to high end and fancy. I ordered the peppercorn steak and it was absolutely fantastic. My wife got chicken dumpling, we also got a fish dish of some type and my grandma got the pasta. Everything was great service was good and our final bill wasn’t too bad, I highly recommend this place.

Came here for an early dinner on a Tuesday night. Food: C Good, but wayyy overpriced for what it is and what you get. Quality was very good, portions and price leave something to be desired. Prices: F I expect more food and some of the best I’ve ever had when it’s so pricey. It’s good, but priced about 20−25% too high. Service: B Attentive and friendly. Intangibles: C+ Good draft and bottled beer selection. Great location near the train station and downtown. Atmosphere is like that of a Cracker Barrel. Seems a bit like it’s not sure quite what it wants to be. Not sure I’d recommend this place when there are much better choices abundantly placed around downtown Durango.

Sat in the Palace but ordered off the Tavern menu. My burger was cooked right and nicely seasoned but it is a birger. For a slice of swiss the upccharge was .75, not a deal breaker but these days a cheeseburger is pretty muxh the normal starting place. That said I would get it again. My wife had the chicken n dumplings. While we were waiting for our orders a nearby table was comparing it favorably with 3 grandmother’s. Hers was equally good and the portion was very large. As another reviewer mentioned, the metal serving dish is HOT. Be careful! Thanks to the other reviewer for mentioning that Dessert is not something we usually do but tonight we ordered the Key Lime Pie. It is as good as we have had anywhere including FL. Oue server, Charlie, went out of his way to accommodate us with a cheerful and prompt attitude. When asked about one of the accompanying sides which was a cranberry something he knew his stuff. I highly recommend the Palace and especially Charlie!
