Best burger joint on Austin! Super missed! Shake Shack gives me the shits ;-( Hoping to get my hands on a twisted potato soon.

I decided to try this place on my lunch break. I ordered the cheeseburger and they didn’t charge extra for a gluten free bun which was great. The burger was good and flavorful. I also ordered a twisted potato which was disappointing and not crispy at all. They also charge for sauce.

Let me start by saying that the food here is great. no complaints there. Always fresh. hot. and tasty. Get the loaded potato. It’s presentation alone is to die for. But an establishment is more than just food. Right? It’s about customer service. cleanliness. and over all about customer satisfaction. This place nails all that. The staff is always on point; super courteous. friendly. and efficient. They smile. they’re professional and polite. As a business owner, I know the significance in having great quality employees. With that being said. I have one observation. Not as consumer complain about their product. rather about the way this young man has to deliver food. As I’m waiting for my food. he comes in after making a delivery. to pick up another one. I usually come during the day and he was always there. now he’s always there at night. considering how frequently he’s there. and the roles he takes on.. I would assume he runs the joint and is just very involved. But no. So he comes in. says hello bla bla. and I realize he’s delivering. I ask how far they have to deliver and if they cross queens blvd. They do. I don’t know if that’s his bicycle but it’s awfully dangerous looking. No reflective lights. matter fact he should have lights everywhere. and a basket. I mean seriously. he has to carry the bag with food around his neck. HISNECK. I’m no physicist or anything but I can understand certain realities. Oh and on top of all that. the vest he’s wearing has nothing on it; where’s the name of the establishment ?? Say this dude gets hit by a car while trying to cross queens blvd. and had no ID on him. and the car takes off(realistic for ny) and no one knows where he works. and he dies. and the world ends because he has no lights and no letters on his shirt !! Calamity Sam. who’s running this business !!! All jokes aside… the well being of your employees is crucial. You don’t want a lawsuit in your hands because you cut corners on important matters. The manager or owner need to get on this asap. I hope the employees know their rights because those are not good working conditions.

I adore this place! Very trendy and casual. Not to mention, the prices are affordable too! The potatoes are the star of the show. Complimenting the burger and the potato leaves me satisfied! Full but not necessarily in a food coma. Not sure why people are complaining about the burger size. My new favorite place for lunch(:

Great service. Worker was nice but food was eh. Ordered a crab smash’d and a chicken and waffle combo. The burger was small and crab patty was over cooked. It was pretty black and tasted bitter. The chicken and waffle was decent. The twisted potato was not what I expected. I thought it would be crispy kind of like chips, but it was really just thin fries. Tried to use the parmesan cheese in the condiment station but the holes were all clogged. Hm… i wonder when they last cleaned it.

Amazing place! We were greeted and help so kindly and it really made the place feel very inviting! The food is great and very well priced for forest hills. Shows that good food doesn’t always have to be ridiculously expensive like at Ripe Café up the block. Don’t hesitate to come in! Also they have an amazing outdoor space when the weather is warm :)!

I was in Forest Hills this past summer showing my homegirl around that’s from out of town, and we were looking for a place to eat and wanted something new, so we tried this spot… Mmmmmm all I can really say about it is that it was a good quick bite. The potato that comes on the stick is pretty tasty, doesn’t feel like you are eating a whole potato, but I assume the potatoes are small when cut in this twisted fashion they seem bigger. I had a turkey burger but in a wrap. Once again it was good nothing to rave about. My homegirl had a regular burger with the twisted potato, she said it was good. I did like how they branded the burger bun. Thought that was cute. They don’t do the wraps like that. I haven’t really thought about this place too much since I went. And I probably will only go back for the twisted potato if I happen to be around won’t make a special trip. This is not a good place for a date or hangout it’s just good for a quick bite, take-out or delivery place and that’s about it. Cool concept tho. Just no pizzazz.

The employees here are professional and courteous. Run by a staff of what appears to be no more than a handful of people. Service was a bit slow the first time I went but that was also 1 – 2 months after they opened their shop. About 4 – 5 months after our initial visit, we came back for our second time. The service was much faster. From taking our order to receiving the burger in front of us, the process was so smooth. They definitely improved a lot. A shop that strives for improvement and better customer service definitely has my vote. Their menu is straightforward and the staff is more than happy to assist you if your having trouble ordering. The food was good, I’ll be back.

I like twist and smashed. I’ve been here a few times with the Groupon. You just have to know how to order, so here are a few tips to maximize your experience! First, burger sizes aren’t huge. Quit complaining people, it’s $ 6 for a single. If you’re a guy or a hungry girl get a double. I am usually good with a single especially with the Idaho potato. I didn’t start out loving the potato on a stick. Do yourself a favor and get it crispy with the cheese and bacon! You will love! All the lemonade is delicious. The people are always nice and helpful. The outside seating in the back is nice in the summer. My only reason for not a five is the indoor seating. It’s simply not warm enough in the winter with the door swinging open all the time. My fav burger in the area!

The best part was the twisted fries on a stick. The burger was dry overcooked and tiny. A total«where’s the beef». To many better options around for burgers. I should have known by how empty it was on a Thursday night at dinner time.

I’ve been to this location before. Burgers r just ok. Too small for the price. I’ve also got the Sirracha buffalo wings and they were so yummy. I had a taste for wings today for takeout. when I got home I was shocked. The buffalo wings were dried up and were the size of my pinky… and just as thin. Where do you find wings soooo thin… at the chicken diet farm? They must of realized they gave me crackhead skinny chicken because they gave me two additional skinny pieces. Lol. What the heck! No wonder this place is always empty. They serve Mini baby burgers and skinny wings. Never again.

Hidden gem… their burgers taste really good. I’ve tried the short rib Burger as well as the regular Angus Burger. The potatoes ona stick are nice and crunchy, with a wide variety of flavored seasoning to choose from at the table. It’s easy to miss the spot walking along Austin, but definitely would recommend. I even enjoyed their chicken and waffles on a stick for breakfast…

Best Veggie Burger ever! Usually veggie burgers are tasteless and they need aioli or some other sauce to amp up the flavor but Twist n Smash takes the prize with their black bean burger. Their lemonade and chips are pretty good too. I’m sad when they stopped delivering to Rego Park since I was a pretty regular customer when I lived in Forest Hills.

Twist and Smash’d had been on my list for some time now because the only thing better than eating carbs is having it on a stick, cut into a tornado shape, and then deep fried. On a Saturday night, we found the place quiet and almost eerily empty, which felt a little strange when so many other surrounding eateries were raucous with full tables and long lines(in fact, we came here in the first place because we found the wait at another restaurant too long). Still, the man at the counter was friendly enough and amicably received our order for two burgers and two Idaho twisted potatoes. My husband ordered the chicken burger and he was surprised to find that the patty was made from ground chicken(instead of a chicken breast as he’d expected). He seemed to like it well enough, though it disappeared within a few minutes because it was a fairly small burger, perhaps a little larger than a slider elsewhere. I would even daresay that the time he took to eat it was shorter than the time we spent waiting for it to come out. For my own meal, I ordered the veggie burger, which was made from a combination of black beans, lentils, and eggplant. The texture was a little mushy and the taste a little bland, but I thought was savory enough. My problem with it was one that I find with many other vegan burgers, which is that the patty fell victim to crumbling as soon as I picked it up, forcing me to finish most of my meal with a fork. The twisted potatoes were certainly a new take on the common french fry but we were neither disappointed or wowed by these. After a trip through the deep fryer, each thin layer of potato had become crisp and chip-like, with some crunchier than others. The condiment/utensil/napkin counter is where you can also find powder shakers and I chose to liberally shower garlic powder over my potato as soon as it came to the table — a choice that was highly rewarding as they were very bland and underseasoned on their own. Though this is a place whose menu weighs heavily on the burger-and-fry portion of its menu, I found the burgers to be just okay. To me, it seems as though much of the allure of Twisted and Smash’d rests on the novelty of its twisted potatoes; unfortunately, potatoes on a stick are now so common a sight at carnivals and street fairs that having it here felt shruggingly commonplace, especially alongside a burger that fell a little flat, especially in serving size. Still, the service was warm and efficient, and little touches like the fun branding on our burger buns, made for a good enough meal.

I learned about this restaurant while viewing the restaurant offers on the groupon website. I went to try the place on a Sunday evening hoping that it wouldn’t be too busy and it wasn’t. The cashier was very friendly and gave clear instructions on what the groupon could be redeemed for. I chose the turkey double burger while my friend chose to get the angus burger. The twisted potatoes were not included in the groupon offer but we wanted to try them and paid for them separately. The burgers were great but the twisted potatoes I wouldn’t order again. The potatoes look very interesting but the taste nor the texture is what I’m looking for to accompany my burger. The potatoes were fried hard and tasted more like homemade chips that were very bland. The Japanese sweet potato version that I ordered also tasted nothing like a sweet potato. They had several different iced tea and lemonade options that were very tasty. There is also seating out back to enjoy on a nice day or evening. I would stop in again for their burgers but the potato twists — definitely not.

I’ve walked past this place and said I should try them out. So today we gave it a shot. The burgers 5 stars… they are small so get the dbl. Juicy hot fresh and very tasty. Strawberry lemonade 5 stars Service 5 stars+ The only downside was the potatoes. They were Luke warm at best and kinda bland. For 2 people it was roughly 30 bucks. I’ll be back

Purchased the Groupon and I enjoyed my food very much. I ordered the veggie burger with mango salsa topping and cheddar cheese, lemon iced tea and the twisty potato on a stick(not sure of the proper name). The customer service was good but they seemed to be understaffed. We didn’t wait long for our food, however, which was fine by me. I noticed there is a garden area in the back which looked nice but it was a bit warm outside so we opted for the AC. The women’s bathroom could have used a sweep/cleanup as could the entire place but as I mentioned earlier, I believe they were understaffed. I would definitely return as the food was deelish just get someone to clean on a Sunday afternoon!

As we all might already know, Austin Street is known for its food, ambiance, and clothing stores, however, not everything here is cheap, in fact youre lucky to find somewhere that doesn’t bite your wallet. Finding Twist and Smash’d was great, because it’s a much cheaper alternative than most the restaurants on 71st. Theyre not«McDonalds» cheap but they def dont overcharge. I ordered a Chipotle Chicken Burger, their infamous potato on a stick thingy, and a Mango Iced Tea. Let me start off by saying that tea was sooo good! It was sweet, but not too sweet or tangy(not that mango can possibly be)! The burger was great as well, although ive tasted better, i recently stated that you get what you pay for. There POTATOSTICKWASYUM! I covered it in ketchup, hot sauce, and garlic seasoning… gotta say it hit the spot for a potato lover like me. Other than the food, the place is spacious, kid-friendly, color-ful, and they have an extremely cute patio in the back. Only thing about it is that the train passes RIGHTBY, but its got this cool little edgy vibe to it. It has little twinkling lights, bet it looks super cute at night!
