The food here was nothing to write home about, namely very bland. Horrible décor, no windows in here? Am I in a cave? Batman, is that you?

On behalf of my daughter, goodbye Black Angus. I’ll let her say her thoughts regarding this unfortunate turn of events. my whole family loved black angus in foster city! when we went there on friday we saw that it was dark and closed. it was soooo devastating to see what had happened to one of our fave resturaunt. i always ordered the lobster and i loved it. me and my mom also always ordered the delicious baked potato soup. it was the best! this place was history for us. we went here for celebrations, on fridays, and we even went here after my fifth grade graduation! i thought the economy was really, really bad, but now that the foster city black angus has closed i know the economy was really, really, really BAD!!! what r we gona do for friday dinners?!

I usually come here with family when we do our random get together dinners that we do. The staff is always very friendly and efficient at getting everything out in a timely fashion. We are usually seated at the long back booth on the right side of the restaurant. Which works for us because all of our kids end up running wild and this way they don’t bother anyone while they are eating. We usually order the dinner for 2 that includes an appetizer, soup or salad, entrée and dessert. The food is ok. Not the best I’ve had but good enough for the price. The Chocolate fudge cake is the best though…

Came here on a Saturday night with the family. Had called in a reservation, and was seated in about 5 minutes by one of the cute Asian hostesses. Yes, that was probably the high point of dinner. Immediately on being seated at a booth, I noticed fresh stains on the seat, likely the remnants of a fudge cake dessert, and had to wipe that off with a napkin. We ordered the 4 course dinner for 2($ 50). Which comes with an appetizer(we picked the hefty sampler platter), 2 soup or salad, 2 meat entrée, and a dessert. It turned out to be enough food for 3 not-super-hungry people. Bread was already on the table, so we broke into that — it was sweet and pleasing. The steak soup tended toward a generic beef stew flavor but the vegetables and steak chunks inside were fresh and welcoming. The potato soup was cheesy, very indulgent and filling. Sampler platter was nice — a little bit of shrimp, buffalo chicken tenders, potato skins, fried zucchini. The filet mignon steak, served up medium rare, came up too soft and without much texture. The prime rib, medium, was too dry and too salty and overcooked. And in hindsight, they had apparently served me an end piece, which probably explained why it was so bad. Alas. Final bill: $ 60. meh. I’ve experienced better.

Very nice service here. I like the high back booths. it makes it feel very private. Their martini’s are pretty good. I had a raspberry lemonade martini. We had crab cakes(pretty darn good), clam chowder(I wasnt a fan. it tasted a bit different from your standard clam chowder), rib eye(very good, cooked right, nice and juicy) and a mocha ice cream desert. Our server was very friendly and we were greeted by more than one employee who made us feel welcome. We will def. go back.

Black angus is a cool spot for dinner. Steaks are good. The best thing to me is happy hour appetizers, crab cake, and buffalo wings, etc. Lots of times I go just for happy hour. Service can be sometime’y, so that keeps it from getting 4 stars. But worth going to eat at.

Oh man! This is a place I go everytime I come from LA from work. It is a definate stop over for me. I usually get the potato skins as the appetizer which are goooood! Sometimes I get the shrimp cocktail which is good also and tastes like the one from Costco! Hehehe!!! But other than that, the main dish I like is the prime rib dinner. This is the one that makes me happy. =) If you like steaks, high seats and a nice dark place, this is a place to go.

Wow, Black Angus what happened to you? I used to go to this place a lot in the 90’s cuz a college buddy of mine liked it and whenever he was in town to visit, we’d go eat there. It was always solid, although not remarkable. Met some friends at Black Angus last night for dinner. How can you go wrong at $ 15 for prime rib and dessert? I ordered the Weds special and my two friends got the dinner for two(w/coupon). They had the salmon and the rib eye. Well, it was just so-so. The prime rib actually is a bit bland. Not sure if it was just an off night. Also, although the baked potato was passable, but the vegetables seemed old. The appetizer(sampler platter) and the dessert(mudpie) were the best parts of my meal. My friend’s salmon looked decent although the ribeye didn’t quite look like a ribeye, my other friend said it was okay. Service was spotty,. On the minus side, the people seating folks seemed a bit disorganized. I was going to wait in the lobby for the rest of the party, but they said they would seat me and let my party know where we were seated. Then, they pleaded ignorance when my friends arrived, leaving them to wander through the restaurant looking for me. On the plus side, the waiter was very nice and good in refilling our drinks and checking on us. Not sure how long this place is going to be around. They are no longer open for lunch and it was pretty empty. Although it was a weeknight, it *was* $ 15 prime rib night. Plus, with all the coupons they send, it ends up being a really cheap meal. One of my friends ordered dinner to go for her husband and kids and our total bill ended up being a shade over $ 100 for *6* entrees plus appetizer and dessert. Cheap price. Cheap meat. Not a place to impress a date for dinner. I’d probably go back for happy hour(half off appetizers) and maybe to try something other than the prime rib if I stayed for dinner.

WOW what a HUGE disappointment. What wasn’t wrong with the meal! The quality of food was terrible, we might as well have gone to the local sizzler. Service, wow what a joke… Really terrible actually the service was worse than the food and the food was disgusting. 1st, she forgot my sister-in-laws ice tea, then she forgot my salad and the last and final straw came when the wateriest completely forgot my sister-in-laws main dish order bringing her shrimp instead of the salmon that she ordered. All of the other plates were brought out and my sister-in-law had to sit and wait and wait for a half hour until her correct plate was brought out. We are extremely disappointed with this restaurant and will not be going back any time in the near future.

I don’t care what anyone else says, I like Black Angus. I’ve eaten at several of their locations and have had a great meal at each. New Years Eve found my wife and I at this particular location, mainly because my mom had clipped a coupon that saved us $$, and we had a great time. Our waitress was very friendly and took good care of us. The food arrived in a timely fashion, was all delicious, and my only complaint was that there was just too much food. They either need to scale things back or turn down the flavor because when you are going out dancing, you really don’t want to stuff yourself and it’s damn near impossible to get out of this place without having to lengthen your belt a bit. Wasn’t overcrowded when we were there so we were seated promptly and never had to wait more than a minute for anything. Overall a great experience which is what I’ve come to expect from this wonderful chain.

3.5 Stars. Came here for lunch and it was not bad, not bad at all — but I did afterall just get back from Argentina where the cows are more tender so let’s not kid ourselves into thinking this is more then just a meaningless fling. Sometimes, a girl just needs some meat. Nevertheless — had a very fast and efficient lunch here — but still felt like I got to treat myself to something a little extra for a Friday. The service was great — professional and friendly. I had the prime rib and although it’s nothing fancy, it was cooked correctly, delivered as promised and consumed entirely. $ 14.99 for salad(or soup), prime rib with mashed potatoes and veggies and a brownie dessert with beverage … not bad. But don’t expect a photo worthy brownie topped with ice-cream … this looks(and tastes) like a brownie you’d just pulled out of a tupperware that came from a box mix.

I hate to beat up on chain restaurants in suburbia, because that’s simply are there really is to eat out there. One of the biggest drawbacks of living in the city and working in the Peninsula is that the pickin’s are pretty slim when you have to work late and want a half-decent dinner. Black Angus’ steaks are predictable: not too tender, lame seasoning, bland taste. The real disappointment are the prices: $ 30 for a drink and a mediocre steak at the BA is definitely not worth it. Just as well to go to an IHOP for dinner and spend $ 12.

My hottie boyfriend Blade is not ashamed to take me — Fussy As I Am — to holiday dinners with his family. This year no one feels like cooking Thanksgiving dinner so we end up in Foster City at the Black Anus… oops I mean Black Angus with the L. family. How will a steakhouse in the suburbs rate on the Thanksgiving Edition of Fussy Fusspot Scale? Black Angus gets 29 of 50 Fussy Fusspot Points… and 3 Stars. — Clean table and dishes? 4 of 5 points. Yes, clean. A lot of water spots on the silverware from the dishwasher but otherwise clean. Boring though. I like more interesting dished. Clean server? 4 of 5 points. Yes he looked clean… but they wear a lot of black. Black pants, black shirt, black apron. Maybe it’s part of the steakhouse look & feel but it makes me wonder if it is just a convenient way to hide the dirt. Clean bathroom? 4 of 5 points. Yes it was clean. But it needs a new coat of paint, replace the chipped tiles and fix the mirror. I did notice and appreciate the garbage can right next to to the door so I didn’t have to touch the door handle with my bare hand. Thank you Mr. Angus. Subtotal = 12 of 15 Fussy Points on the Clean Scale. Service? 2 of 5 points Service was slow. Even though it was Thanksgiving the restaurant was not packed. And we all order the turkey dinner special. The salads came out right away but we waited a long time for the main course. Ambiance? 2 of 5 points. Boring. Not ugly. Just boring. Might have been 3 points except for the hideous chandelier above the waiting area. Friends from Finland Practical Scale — 4 of 5 points. They get 4 good points here. It’s very practical. Easy parking. Easy to navigate for the very very old Auntie F and her walker. Food — 4 of 10 points. The salads were ordinary from-a-bag mixed greens. Dull. The turkey was quite good and the sweet potatoes were very good. Otherwise the meal was so-so green beans and mashed potatoes. Nice size portions though. And the Thanksgiving dinner included pumpkin pie. I was so looking forward to the pie. Our server brought pie to Blade’s parents and brother first. They each took a bite and started telling us it was still partially frozen and watery and not good. So when he brought my pie I told him I didn’t want it. So there. Actually I make a fab-u-lous pumpkin pie and I know they are not that hard to make. So the Black Angus would have 5 points for food but –1 point for the partially frozen watery pumpkin pie that disappointed my Thanksgiving expectations. Price/Food ratio? 5 of 5 points. Black Angus gets all the points in this area. With their Thanksgiving special menu plus Blade’s mom had a coupon it was only $ 15 each(not including gratuity). Bonus? 0 of 5 points. None. Zip. Zilch. I asked if they served both white and dark turkey meat and the server said yes — some of both on every plate. I asked for my plate to have a little extra dark meat and a little less white meat. Blade’s brother Rudy wanted more white and less dark. An even trade. «I’ll try» he said. They brought out 7 plates of food to our table of 8 and they were all the same. Blade was the only one waiting to be served. I started trading white meat for dark meat with Rudy when they bring out Blade’s plate of ALLDARKMEAT. So they get +1 bonus point for meeting my request for dark meat but they turn around lose that point for serving it to the wrong person. Total: 29 Fussy Fusspot Points.

We did the 4 course meal for $ 34. Good deal. We got the sampler appetizer. I wish we had gotten the crab cakes or all chicken tenders. The zuchinni and the potatoe skins in the sampler weren’t worth it. I got the filtet mignon. It was tender but not flavorful. The new york steak had more flavor. The potatoe soup was too salty. Get the salad instead. The baked alaska had way too much whipped cream and hardly any ice cream and brownie. Would rather have had the chocolate cake or mud pie. Our waiter was good.

Ahhh Suburbia… now I remember why I left you so many years ago. I have become spoiled in my dining mecca that is San Francisco. Spoiled to the decadent, well designed food plates that look more like art than something you want to put in your mouth. Spoiled to taking a bus to a restaurant so I can drink and not have to worry about crashing my car in some huge parking lot. Spoiled to non-corporate chain restaurants… Eh, who am I kidding, I worked corporate restaurants in SF, I can’t usually afford to go to the awesome restaurants in the city, but I do appreciate public transit to restaurants… With that being said, I went on a suburban date on Sunday night. I’ve been sitting on a $ 50 gift certificate to Black Angus, but unfortunately the closest one to SF is Foster City, so down the peninsula I drove… knowing that I wouldn’t be able to get my proper drink on cuz I had to drive back. It was a lovely time however, despite the suburb aspect. It felt like a date I might have gone on in High School. A date where I would have been expected to put out cuz he bought me steak. Only difference… the gift certificate was mine! The place has a really rustic feel. The restaurant feels comfortable and homey. and doesn’t reek of pretension and arrogance. We split the dinner for 2. Choice of appetizer, green salad/soup, choice of entrée, and a desert to share. Thought I was gonna roll out of there by nights end. The server was a bit too chatty for our tastes, and after finally shooing chatty Cathy away, we started in on our awesome pumpernickel bread, and our beverages of choice. He had a Bass, I drank a glass of Zin.(Red, not white… what do I look like?) The prawn appetizer was nice, de-veined, de-pooped, and served with a really nice cocktail sauce. The green salad was green, and the entrée’s were huge. I had a 6oz filet, cooked MR, and it was served with what the server called«standard veggies», and a loaded baked potato… but after the first two courses, I was barely able to finish. My lovely date had the 9 oz sirloin, and was pleased as well… having it served with a delish whiskey sauce. For desert we chose the Baked Alaska, and took it to go. I’m pretty sure he gave us two desserts, because it was ridiculously huge, but when we got home I only had one bite. Tasty, but too rich. I prefer other desserts to the ones that you can eat. ;) We went because I had a gift certificate. Our food came to a perfect $ 50, so all we had to pay for was beverages and tip.(We definitely over-tipped, but that’s how we roll) I’d been waiting for the perfect time, company and opportunity… and I found it, however I would NOT trek all the way down to Foster City for a steak, when I’m surrounded by amazing meat in SF. I guess if you live here… go for it. It wasn’t half bad. If you are into that suburban thing…

Despite the reviews by some other readers below, I actually really enjoyed my first ever Black Angus experience last night. When we walked in, the lady asked if it’s our first time, and they proceeded to offer a free fried zucchini appetizer. This is great, since I think it’s the best appetizer(because we also got the sampler plate later). Because we had a coupon for Dinner-for-two @ $ 35, it turned out to be a great deal. Due to the coupon + deals + timing, for $ 40+ we got the Zucchini and sampler appetizer, soup for each of us, steak + 2 sides, and 1 dessert. I liked my steak(rare), my potato(they really do know how to make their potato dishes) cooked in: baked potato, potato soup(a tiny bit salty), fried potato skin(heavenly), and garlic mashed potato. And the serving size of the dessert is enormous! I think we got enough food to feed the two of us 3 meals each! Oh, and the waiter’s friendly, and since it was on a Wed. night, there’s no wait either! only small complaint: soup a bit too salty, and usually American restaurants don’t know how to make their vegetable sides well(so BA is no exception there).

For spending about $ 75 you would think I would have had a fantastic meal… but no. The food is way overpriced(for example: I ordered a shrimp cocktail for appetizer… they gave me 4 shrimps that were small, and they were in a tiny glass with lettuce stuffed in it for $ 12.99!!) So anyhow, I’ll never eat here again… the famous«steak» they are known for is not worth knowing! LOL **Update: So I getta coupon(4 course dinner for two $ 39) so I go with a good girlfriend… My only complaints: 1) if we ask to keep the menu to be able to peruse it throughout our meals, don’t ask 3 times to have it back. 2) A medium-rare steak should have some pink on the inside… possibly even a little red, but definitely there is a big difference between well done and medium-rare. ~~~If you’re known for steak — get it right! Big PLUS: the bartender was our waitress who gave us happy hour prices on our wine even though we were there about 2 hours after happy hour ended.

I’m only giving an extra star because of the pumpernickel bread and the crab cakes, but that’s about it. The food is okay… a bit pricey for what I wanted to pay for ribs, especially half a rack of ribs. My friends did the Dinner for 2 special and they pigged out on prime rib, salmon, and yummy appetizers like the crab cakes. The Baked Alaskan dessert was a giant mushroom sized foamy head of marshmallow. Definitely go for the double chocolate cake w/vanilla ice cream. The fudge could be hotter, but it was edible. The lack of stars came from the time factor. It took service 35 minutes to bring out our salads after serving our appetizers! OMG… even worse, our entrees were also another 40 minute wait. We sat there at 8:30 and didn’t leave until 10:05. It was inexcusable because the place is dead… I mean literally we were the only group in the place. Shouldn’t we have had faster food turnaround??? The place was really dark and kinda old. Definitely a ghetto crowd at the bar. Not really the best place to go for a birthday, but if that’s where the birthday girl wanted to go… then that’s what we have to suck up to. The waiter was really nice, but I guess with things pretty much like tumbleweeds blowing in the wind setting, there’s only so much service we’ll get. So come only when you’re being coerced… otherwise, there’s plenty of other steakhouses out there to satisfy that moo-lust.

This is an old favorite. However, I remember it being a lot better when I was a kid, then it has been my last few visits. I guess I’ve just experienced a lot of better places in the past couple decades. A step up from TGIFriday’s — I go here when I feel like eating cheesy garlic bread and red meat.

Bad news. John insists that when he and a coworker went there for lunch, the experience was decent, but following my first time, I’m very skeptical. First, we waited 20 minutes before our waiter even took our drink orders. Initially, I liked the floor layout, with all the booths, but then the 80s music started rockin’ and somehow what I was hearing just didn’t jive with what I was seeing. I suddenly felt like I was at a roller skaing rink. Weird. Then we both ordered salads that never came. Instead, I got a baked potato with my mashed potatoes. Now, I’m all for carbo loading, but baked potato and mashed potatoes? That’s a bit much. When our entrees came out, his steak was undercooked. My shrimp were good, but by then, we were both pretty disappointed. It didn’t help that two tables next to us had similar complaints– screwed up orders and long wait times. This place ain’t cheap either. We won’t be heading back.
