The Bourbon Room

Well it was a cool idea to make a pit stop to check out a gay bar in Freddy on the way home from DC. I grew up not too far away and was surprised when I had heard that one had opened up here a few years ago. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t my scene at all.
Walking in there was a small bar with no one in it. I almost walked out before realizing there was an upstairs, which is where all the people were. Interesting group of people, certainly a mixed bunch. The bartender helping me was pretty friendly and quick, but her counterpart was not friendly at all.
The atmosphere there is really quite grungy. The fact that there was no A/​C didn’t help matters. They weren’t serving any beer on tap, so I ended up just going for a vodka drink, which I really needed to slip slowly– that was strong! They had music playing but the dance floor was small and wasn’t inviting to me at all. Despite the mixed bunch, something about the group just struck me the wrong way.

The bartender’s are great! Always know what need even when I don’t! I brought a few friends to meet BJ, we love him! Thanks for always making my nights!

Just updating my review, stopped going to this location. There are other cleaner safer constructed places to hang out. Make the trip to D.C. or Baltimore, it will be wurth the extra travel time.

Went here with a binch of friends. It was all right. Drinks were good and fast and music was nice.
Place was a little run down though and dirty. It was nice but didn’t hang long.

Had fun going there to dance. Drink was strong which I don’t mind. I really liked the atmosphere, it was super chill.

When my wife wants to go out late night, have a drink, and dance, this is normally our choice. It’s always fun and you’re destined to see some very interesting people.
It’s conveniently located close to a multitude of other destinations downtown, which makes it a good go to if the bar you started at just isn’t cutting it.
The staff is great; I get drinks quickly and the DJ is always opened to requests.
My only complaint is how dirty it gets. Although, it doesn’t get gradually dirtier every time I go… So maybe we’re the dirty ones? Clean up your act, America, the Bourbon Room has dirty bathrooms!

The female DJ sucks! Go there when the male DJ is there. He’s SO much better. Oh and bring toilet paper, sometimes they run out and don’t bother to go down the road and get more… And soap too :/

This place can be so fun to go and dance at on the weekends. It is known as the gay bar of Fredericksburg, but everybody goes and it is a fun atmosphere. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting and I’m sure the place looks frightening with the lights on. I would never eat here either. However it’s a lot of fun on a weekend night to go for drinks and to dance.

I think this is actually more of a 3 and a half stars. My wife and I just moved to Fredericksburg from the San Francisco Bay Area, and we thought for sure we were moving to po-​dunk. But, this town actually has more going on than we thought. After a quick internet search we found the Bourbon Room, which appeared to be the local gay bar. We went in the first week we were in town on a Saturday. They were super welcoming! They are short on décor, but long on community. It’s not necessarily a gay bar, but more so an inclusive bar. There’s definitely family in the house. It was kinda sparse, but still fun. I’m interested to see what it’s like on a Saturday when the college kids are around. We ordered some apps to go, and they were really good! So food is a plus, and drinks were pretty cheap. If you’re looking for a local low-​key sorta evening, definitely try it out. We’re planning to stop in tonight, so I may update.
