I used to like this place a lot but not anymore after yesterday’s incident. I believe this is the original Thach Che Hien Khanh. I’ve tried che ba mau at different Hien Khanh branches but still think che ba mau here is better than the other che Hien Khanh stores. Why 1 star? 1 star is for the cleanliness, service, the quality and the customers. Yesterday I was waiting in line to be served. The line was so long out to the door. One of the worker suggested that we need to move closer to the food display counter to create 2 lines so everyone can be inside of the store. I was the second person in line. When the first person moved to the counter, I followed her. The third person, rude lady, instead of standing behind me, she stepped to the side and stood right next to the first person. So of course after the first person being served, they called for the next person. The rude lady who was behind me started to yell out her order. I was like what the heck. This fob lady had no manner at all. Lucky that I speak Vietnamese. I confronted her and was able to put my order in. The che ba mau was such a disappointment. I ordered big size but the whole cup was mainly filled with coconut juice. Very little beans. The quality is very inconsistent. The place is pretty dirty outside and also inside. Like the other reviewer mentioned, they leave the stuffs uncovered for the whole day. There is no number calling system. People can be rude to each other and cut in line. It’s not worth to get stressed out over the dessert. Especially, the quality has gone down the hill.

Go here for your Vietnamese dessert fix. Both my companions raved about the sesame balls, which are small and delicate with just the right ratio of crispy shell to interior. Che chuoi(banana), che dau(bean) and mung bean cake were all fresh tasting and not too sweet. We got an endless amount of food for $ 10.50, and the people are super nice!

Omy goodness, not worth it! This place is so ghetto and shady and it’s not really too clean. I was thinking to myself that those huge bins of mung bean and stuff were sitting out all day with the flies and such. I got the number 2 which has a bunch of jelly stuff in it and I didn’t like it at all because I was hoping more for the beans and such. I typically like the che suong Sao hat Luu, but they didn’t really have that. I’d never go here again just based on cleanliness. Sorry, my fellow viets, but id rather go to the chain Bambu than this.

Obsessed with this place. I went twice and tried a couple of different types of che. There were two types of che thai, which is a coconut milk based fruity dessert. The iced kind had more lychee and canned fruits and the warm kind had big mochi/pounded rice balls. I also got che chuoi, the banana che with coconut topping and tapioca balls, and chuoi chien(fried bananas). I saw that they also had several different types of soi(sweet sticky rice desserts) and banh cam(fried sesame balls). Everything is displayed on the counter, so you just point at what you want. Everything I’ve had here was good, so you can’t go wrong pointing at random things, but I recommend che thai for the uninitiated.

The place is FULLOF Vietnamese DESSERTS!!! However, I don’t know any names of the desserts. I just pick and point, though I wish I knew. This place is a to-go(take-out). There are no tables or seats to sit. Ordered the drinks #1 and #2. I haven’t tried all, but between #1 and #2, I suggest #2. It’s less sweet. #1 is too sweet for me. It’s like sugar overload. I tried a sip and didn’t think I could drink it all. Ordered the banana too. My friend suggested it. It was good! I didn’t look good but it was!!! I thought it would be like the banana like Filipino banana dessert, but it isn’t like it at all. This Vietnamese banana has gelatin and is not too sweet, which I really don’t like too much sweet desserts. You can eat it by itself or dip it in the white tapioca sauce they provide. You line up and order whatever you want throughout the array of desserts trays you see in front of you. If your order is done before the people in front of you, you can just bypass everyone else still ordering and go to the cash register and pay instead of waiting for the people in front of you to finish. They don’t have names or prices in the dessert trays. But everything looked good.

This dessert place used to be restaurant style, I remember coming here when I was little. Its a lot smaller now, and it’s just a to go place. The pictures on the walls are the same though, which brings back a lot of memories. Oh and the dessert is still really good! I had che Thai, and it was delicious!

Chuoi chien(deep fried bananas) is nasty. Really oily and all you tasted is the crunchy batter, hardly any banana inside.

This place is one of the best place for che. They are always busy, so if you are in a hurry, good luck. And speaking of luck, good luck finding a space to park. They only accept cash. Good luck.

This place is cheap considering the food is so good! The banh tam(colorful with coconut), the banana in white sauce, and flan are so good! The flan though, had me craving!

I have waited MONTHS to come here and have some authentic Vietnamese Che! Everything I ordered was delicious. I got a Che Thai, Bánh Tam and two orders of Chuoi Chung. Delcious, delicious, delicious! The store is set up efficiently and it’s easy to get in line and point at what you want. There are so many good options. The service was fast and extremely friendly. I also loved this store because I felt like I really in another place, not in a strip mall in OC! I’ll definitely be back to for more, I can’t wait to try everything!

Our visit here was a fun late night adventure, I almost felt like I was in another country during my visit. The lines were long on a Saturday night. They sell Vietnamese desserts and drinks(che). Almost everything was foreign to me but everything we ordered tasted delicious. They even let us sample a few things because unless you are familiar with this cuisine ordering can be a little bit of trial and error. If you love the taste of coconut, taro, banana, mung beans, boba, you are bound to find something you like. We ordered a couple of drinks with crushed ice boba, mung bean, jellies, coconut milk, they were incredibly good and addicting. I also ordered a warm sticky rice taro dessert with coconut crème sauce. The sauce was similar to what you would find with a Thai mango and sticky rice. Next time I will take pictures, but as for the names and descriptions, no guarantees. CASHONLY, CLOSEDWED we paid $ 8 out the door for 3 desserts. There are two of these locations with the same name but as far as I understand, different owners.

Oh you want some Vietnamese desery?! Whatever you want, they got it. This place has the largest variety of Vietnamese desserts I have ever seen at one location. Half the things I have never even seen before and they just keep bringing it out one after another as soon as it is close to running out. This place is seriously a well oiled machine with tons of customers coming in and buying almost everything. The only bad thing is I am not Vietnamese so the language barrier is a little bit of a problem considering there are no labels on any of the displayed items and no prices anywhere for anything so you just tell them what you want and you get a total at the end of the line. The quality of the deserts are top notch and taste very fresh but by the looks of the amount of human traffic they receive the deserts probably don’t even stay out long enough before its sold out to even go bad. Some recommendations for the establishment, signs, ingredients, and prices. I would buy even more variety if I actually knew what I was looking at or getting.

I am going to be honest, I have no idea what these dishes are called but I do know that they are super yummy. Every dessert I got here was deliciously sweet and starchy. I am never disappointed then I come here. Some places water down there Chè a bit too much for my taste but not this place. It’s just soo good! Now if I can find someone to teach me how to order by name not number… hmm?

Definitely the best place to come here to get some Che(Vietnamese desserts). I’ve been coming here since I was able to walk. My parents always made the time to come here to pick up some desserts to go. I believe most desserts are only $ 1.75 each. Till this day I don’t know the name to many of these desserts. But don’t worry. Just point it out to them and they will take care of the rest. Parking is horrible here! Cash only

I came here on a tuesday night and didn’t have a problem finding parking in the small parking lot, but I can see how it can get full quickly on a busy night. I am not crazy about desserts, but my mom told me to visit this place because they have the best che. The selection of che here is ridiculous. I only recognized a few, but they all looked delicious. I ordered: Che ba mau– This was on point. They used different types of beans, which gave the che lots of nice texture and made it hearty. The coconut milk was just the right amount of sweetness to balance everything out. Che chuoi(banana) — I thought this was ok. I’m not too crazy about it because the banana in it was a bit tart for my liking. Che bap(corn) — This was really good even without the coconut milk concoction used to pour over it. I ordered one more che, but I have no idea what it is. It was already poured out into the cups and its yellow(you can see it in many of the pictures other people posted). It looks kinda like che bap. Anyways, my friend insisted on ordering it even though he had no idea what it is. I don’t recommend ordering this(whatever it is), it had a weird taste to it and did not taste good at all. The texture was odd too. I wished I had time to try other che, but I was in OC for one night. If you come here and don’t know what to order, stick with the classics. They seem to do those well.

Vietnamese dessert spot serving flan, drinks with coconut milk, sweet beans, jellies, rice cakes, etc. don’t know how someone who doesn’t speak vietnamese would order besides pointing! —#4: don’t rmbr the name of this one but my Vietnamese friend recommended this coconut milk drink with pandan noodles and jellies when i mentioned i’m not a huge fan of beans, although there was a sweet white paste at the bottom that was very yummy(not sure what the paste was but probably mung bean paste ironically) —bananas in sweet cream: not bad —coffee jelly: just okay, prob wouldn’t get this again They have multiple locations! NOTE: only 1 table inside so it’s more of a to-GO spot

BESTCHE in OC!!! If you love vietnamese dessert then you must get it from here. The che is always tasty and not overly sweet. All items are great but my faves: **che ba mau. most popular! **che thai(non-traditional vn dessert)…jackfruit, rambutan, coconut, grass jelly, boba. ***che dau(most traditional vn dessert)…with tapioca(nep)…red beans… topped with coconut milk. ***flan…very smooth and not too rich. The fresh coconut milk makes the che sooo GOOD! Parking is VERY limited in such a small plaza. Parking is available in the neighborhood.

Ever been to a bakery and not been able to make a selection since everything looked so interesting and delicious? This is such a place. Honestly, I can’t even tell you what I ordered or what I ate. I only know I’ve been here several times, its consistently unique and an adventure for my taste buds. Not all the folks behind the counter speak English so I’ve relied on other customers in line to explain what the delicacies behind the counter were made of. And can I say, I have not been disappointed. This is a great place to go for a unique food experience. Oh and one more thing, it’s very affordable!

I was really excited to find this little gem in Garden Grove. After having some thai/laos food we were in search of some delicious dessert. So naturally, we checked out Unilocal. We ended up going to Thach Che Hien Khanh which is a Vietnamese dessert joint! Upon arrival the first thing I thought to myself was«holy crap, look at all of this!» There were seriously like over thirty choices of different Vietnamese desserts. I have NEVER seen this many in one place and everything looked really damn good! We opted for the #4 which was the suong sa hat luu(rainbow dessert). If I recall, it had mung bean, green jelly dessert, red chestnut, and pandan flavored pasta looking thing. I wasn’t too sure about the mung bean because I generally do not like mung bean. The drink was actually decent but a bit on the sweet side for me. We also got the che bap which is a Vietnamese sweet corn pudding. It is basically sweet corn with coconut cream on top and some toasted sesame seeds. If you like corn and sweet coconut cream, this Is definitely a good dessert to try out. Some of my complaints… We got there around 4:00pm on a weekend and there wasn’t too much left. Even for the items they had not much of, they left them in the larger metal containers which made me feel like I was getting the remnants/left overs. They should probably move the items and consolidate them or something so it doesn’t look so bad. This place is cash only. I get it, businesses want to save money. But people want to buy more sometimes and they can’t cause we don’t have cash :(

This is the kind of place that someone takes you too when you have an open mind and willing to try something new. It also helps if they speak the language because if you don’t, you are stuck pointing at different desserts unless your attendant speaks English. I love coming here and will offer drink #1& #3 even though I believe it should’ve been #2. Anyway it’s a three bean and it’s far the best I have ever tasted. It’s worth the drive. Another one is the corn style dessert and one that has beans with a tapioca looking addition. See I told you I have no idea but be open to trying anything. Parking is horrible so either you get lucky with a spot, park in the street or have someone wait in the car. My one wish? To have the ingredients listed so I have an idea what I ordered and don’t feel like a goof ball
