This is a good restaurant, offering quaint charm and simple elegance. I went here with a medium sized group for our senior prom, and was treated greatly by our nice waiter, even though we were a little loud and fairly young. Our waiter lighted candles for us, and helped us pick from the menu(as our normal dinners consisted of cookout and whatever mom made!). I had a delicious pasta in red sauce and cake for dessert. My boyfriend had a chicken plate that he ate most of, and everyone enjoyed their meals despite the more ‘developed’ menu. For my boyfriend and I it was about $ 50 for everything, which was not all that bad for a very nice restaurant, but also not the cheapest meal out there. I gave Vintage House four stars just because it was a little pricey for us being high school kids, but they had excellent reception and stood by our reservation to no avail! Also, our waiter had a beard and went to CVCC, he was very kind and would recommend him any day.

I was really looking forward to trying this place while visiting family in the area and it did not disappoint. What a lovely restaurant stained glass ceiling, diamond paned windows. Charming in every way. Natasha was the lovely young lady who helped us and she was just so nice. Very welcoming. The food and wine were outstanding as well. Started out with a nice Sauvignon blanc. Warm rolls and butter were brought out. You can order small plates or full size entrees. The portions are very generous as you can see, photos are of the small size. Ordered a wilted spinach salad with bacon and dijon vinaigrette. Very very fresh ingredients. Then had the tortellini with spinach, gorgonzola & walnuts. Everything was so good. Prices are very reasonable for all you get. Will be back again when I am visiting.

The reviews were good so we decided to try The Vintage House restaurant. We are more than pleased that we did. It was a Monday so we called to make sure they were open. They were open and said they are reservation only. The staff was friendly and helpful. I ordered the special… grilled trout. My husband ordered the filet. The dinners came with salad, homemade dressing and yummy rolls. Dinner was presented beautifully. We were stuffed and didn’t order dessert but the choices sounded wonderful. This was a Supurb dining experience.

Absolutely amazing food & wine selection at a great price value. Highly recommended if you are in Hickory try this local best kept secret. Always a daily fish and meat special! They try hard and don’t advertise. A lot of the wine is off the menu so ask if you want something really special or a recondition.

Ladies and gentlemen, what can I say… It doesn’t get any better than this. Chef/owner Matt Parker has a gem in Hickory, NC. This was my second occasion dining here and both times have been phenomenal! On this occasion I dined with a friend from college and we opened with a glass of house chardonnay from the Columbia Valley. It was nice crisp and clean and we paired it with appetizers of crab cakes and escargot. Crab cakes were great with a nice sauce on the side, but the escargot cooked in a red wine sauce was superb, The next course was the salad course and we ordered two different ones. The first was a wilted spinach with bacon and balsamic dressing but the second one was by far the best. Picture 3 disks of creamy, buttery fried goat cheese atop a bed of lettuce with a heavenly dressing. Heavenly, and worth the trip to Hickory all on its on. For the entrée we ordered the same thing. The filet. they will cut it to your specifications and we chose a 10oz cut cooked to a perfect mid-rare with a perfect demi glaze, and served with some mash and veggies. We washed the steak down with a wonderful bottle of 2001 The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon. An excellent bottle drinking well and will be drinking well for at least another 5 – 7 years. While one Unilocaler mentioned that the wine list was«average.» I’m not sure that is the proper adjective to use. The list is great, just not huge and filled with names like Dom Perignon, Caymus, or Silver Oak. There are gems on that list that are a little lessor known but just as good and a much better value, and in the world of wine isn’t that the goal? Finding those lessor known great bottles? Anyway I promise you won’t be disappointed and I highly recommend this place.

Biggest complaint is it isn’t open every night. It’s frustrating when you are set for it and it is closed. Great charm in this old home. Great front door. My girlfriend gets the duck and loves. I move around the menu quite a bit. Never a bad meal here. Wine is average.

Decided to splurge and take a risk on one of three Hickory restaurants my wife and I have had our eyes on. Given the reviews of this place, we thought it was, in fact, not a risk at all, but a surely great dining experience. Upon entering we loved the charm of the old building, although it took us a bit to find since there was no sign or identifying feature on the property. We had previewed the menu beforehand, and we were excited. We were sat in a room by ourselves and the server was welcoming. She left us after about ten minutes and introduced a new server. She was very new, I think maybe to the restaurant industry in general. She was polite but very nervous, and hadn’t tried anything on the menu. White bread rolls were brought out. For an appetizer we ordered grilled portobello with lump crabmeat and lemon butter glacage. This was by far the shining star of the evening. Absolutely delicious. Both the house and caesar salads were large and good. For entrees, I went for the NC trout special with lump crabmeat and a creamy sauce and my wife had the beef medallions with goat cheese and sun dried tomato tapenade. Both came with steamed veggies which were fine. My trout had a side of seasoned orzo that was pretty good and the beef came with decent potatoes. The entrees themselves were not what I expected. The trout was lost in the sauce, I really would have enjoyed tasting fresh local trout, but instead it was there almost as an aftertaste to the creamy sauce and crabmeat. I ate most of my sides, and hardly touched my fish. The medallions were large and very tender, but the tapenade tasted like a marinara sauce, I could detect no hint of sun dried tomato flavor. Both entrees were barley touched, and yet the server didn’t question this or ask if there was anything wrong with them. For dessert. my wife thoroughly enjoyed the crème brûlée. All in all for $ 90, with no drinks save water, I expected quite a bit more. The owner was present and visited a few tables of people he seemed to know, but made no inquiry at our table. The service was polite and well intentioned, I think, but a bit clunky and not at well informed on the menu, or ingredients. Maybe I simply ordered the wrong thing, or we went on an off night(Friday night), but this experience coupled with the seeming lack of concern from the staff or management leads me to not recommending The Vintage House.

Don’t wait for a special occasion to dine here! Beautiful early 1900’s house offers dining in an intimate setting. Not just for show, the food matches the ambiance. Start with s beautiful spinach salad with a warm bacon vinaigrette, yum. I opted to eat light and had a portobello small plate. My husband went for a generous filet special with two fillets and lovely seasonal veggies and smashed potatoes(OK, I helped with the steak). Hard choice since the were offering two enticing fish specials. Great wine list. And save room for dessert, key lime pie was light and delicious, next time we’ll go for the flour less chocolate cake. Chef was out checking on diners and they source local. My only regret is that we’re just visiting and not close enough to be regulars. Compares with the best«in the city».

We had a business dinner at the Vintage House and it did not disappoint! Great food, great service and a great atmosphere. The Salmon was excellent and who doesn’t like a salad with bacon! Would definitely go back.
