This food is bad. Bland at best. My burrito was stale and so were the chips. My wife’s beans and rice were lukewarm and flavorless. We did not finish eating our poor excuse for Mex food. This food is absolutely no comparison to the mom and pop Mex food joints or food trucks in the northwest. I mention this because a reviewers said it was like the Mex food he or she had in Cal and was glad they found this place. Really? Someone doesn’t know what good Mex food is or never left the suburbs. You mentioned you would place your food up against some northwest food trucks. This is just one city, one review from June of 2013. Good luck.

Worst service I have received in a while. I ordered our food and waited for it to be done. While I waited I watched customer after customer that had ordered after me receive their food. I ask the employee what happened to my food. She goes back and checks reluctantly. She comes back and states my order go deleted with no concern. She says I’ll have to wait again with attitude. I wait there while several customers are getting their food and mine is no where to be found. I asked to be compensated for my wait and she says she can’t do that as her manager not there! It wasn’t only her, none of the staff cared that I hadn’t received my food and at this point it had been 45 minutes. Worst«fast food» experience I have every had will never go back. I demanded for my money back and we left.

Service: The cashiers upfront were soooo fun to talk to. We enjoyed their customer service and smile. We ordered the Baja Fish Taco and it was great!

I regularly eat at Maui Tacos when I’m in Maui, particularly at the one at Queen K shopping center and have been satisfied with the quality of the food there. However, I’ve been to the Royal Hawaiian location twice, once on Halloween and today, and it’s been very disappointing. Today, I ordered the Hana burrito and it had little pork, lots of rice, and overall was dry and cold. It was 7:30 pm and the salsa bar was totally empty. The clerk said they are out for the day. Also, if I remember correctly, the one in Maui has cilantro at the bar, whereas in Waikiki you have to pay extra for it. Even if there was salsa, I would have strongly hesitated to get any since the bar area was very dirty and unappetizing. Wasted $ 11 and won’t go here again.

Definitely better than what you usually find at a food court, that’s for sure. Not all that great, though. The tostada I had was ok, and the food the people I was with was satisfactory to them, but this should only be reserved for when you’re in a pinch and don’t have time to walk elsewhere.

Man I’m a mess when I’m hungry, everything looks good. Put me in a food court I can never decide. Finally settled on this place just so I could get a first to review. Ordered the Waimea salad and Baja grilled fish taco. Pretty big salad, could only finish half of it. The dressing is kind of weird tasting. Wouldn’t recommend that one. Fish taco was excellent though. It doesn’t even need beans. The cashier gladly wrapped up the rest of my salad and we were good to go. Free soda refills. Nice. Update: Hookipa burrito is also bomb, and fajita salad is not bad. This Mexi-Hawaiian fusion cuisine is my shit

We all know Hawaii is certainly not the place for tacos. Being from California; it’s Taco heaven. Every variety you can think of, Lengua, Barbacoa, Cabeza and even the Okinanawa«taco Rice« So for our amusement, we gave Maui tacos a try. Can’t say it was a thrill or appetizing. Nothing to rave about and didn’t excite our taste buds .But, I guess it’s alright for Hawaii. *** The staff seemed puzzled when I spoke to them in Espanol. For sure, No Habla Espanol Agui ***

Worst indigestion after eating their tacos and beans. My wife and I almost went to the hospital thinking we were poisoned. Do not recommend!

I usually get the nachos, there different kind of meats and beans to get. I like the salsa bar, it seems the workers during the day are more friendlier than the night ones, especially the cashiers. But overall, I would still eat here.

We got the steak burrito. Tons of steak and flavors were great. It came with some tortilla chips and an open salsa bar. The pineapple salsa was tasty. We also got the chinga linga dessert. It was fried banana with vanilla bean ice cream and honey drizzle. It looked and tasted very good. They take a while but very nice and informative. Prices are kinda high. $ 16 for a burrito and drink. At least the drink were free refills. Not sure if we’ll be back because of the high prices. I rather go to a nice Mexican restaurant and get the same burrito along with rice, beans, and chips and salsa for the same price. It’s good for what it is and food court is convenient.

If you are looking for a fast food taco joint at the shopping center, then this is it. I really enjoyed my taco salad! It’s pretty big and fills you up! Plus, the unlimited salsa bar was pretty awesome! And free soda refills!

To all food court naysayers, this taco is not bad. Actually, it’s a rather constructive contention to all the highbrows that look down on it. I had the Baja Grilled Fish Taco. The fish had a pleasant flaky texture and the bean sides mellow out the meal. It may be from a food court, but in a very snooty mall at that.

I wish I would have gone to a different place. I ordered a salad with grilled fish and it took over 20 min to receive my food and this was at a food court. They only had 4 orders before mine and a salad someone ordered way after I did came out before mine. What the hell. The salad itself was below mediocre and super salty. I just ate the fish and threw the rest away. I’m not going back ever again.

First time experience here and it was terrible. My husband ordered the chimichanga that was 80% rice, the chips were chewy, and the salsa bar was truly a mess with plastic cups IN the salsa! My «Maui Taco» missing ingredients on the advertised photo!!! No sour cream or guacamole and the chicken was supposed to be grilled but it was smothered in sauce!!! TURN back now…

I was very pleasantly surprised by Maui Tacos located in the second floor food court at Royal Hawaiian shops. I ordered the # 1 combo = two grilled fish tacos with chips, choice of beans, and rice. They have a salsa bar with 5 varieties, from mild to hot. The grilled fish was well prepared and lightly dressed with a mayo-type condiment. Important emphasis on ‘grilled’ fish. Not fried in fat which destroys the taste and adds a bazillion calories. I also chose the black beans with rice which was very good. The chips were fresh and not greasy. The soft tacos were just that, ‘soft’. There was a nice pineapple medium salsa which well complimented the fish. Sweet deal for just under $ 11 with tax. I highly recommend this fresh-fast chain!

Haven’t been here in ages! Ordered a meal today with my other half, and sadly to say I wish the food and service was better. It was her first time, and I was telling her the tacos and prices were decent for the quality of the food. But sadly I think the prices went up, and over all quality dropped a bit. Service was ok, but nothing over the top. We ordered a #2 with two drinks on the side and came out to $ 16. Surely it didn’t make us full, but for the price I think Taco Bell would’ve been better. Refried beans were rough, and slightly hard. But over all the food was 2⁄5. Will come back again, but hoping it gets better…

Too tired to seek formal food, we headed to the food court. Of all our Asian food options, this Mexican place was the most vegetarian friendly. But it was still only just okay. I tried the rice and beans bowl that came with potatoes and lettuce added to it. The tacos were just okay as well.

Alright, so sue me that I like this food court, Hawaiian franchised Mexican food place. I can’t help it, the way they season their food speaks to me. I like it! It reminds of going to a Baja Fresh(a mainland franchise), yeah it’s not a real Mexican joint but dangit its fresh and hits the spots. The portions are good sized, things are freshly prepared and flavorful. It’s fresh fast food. If you’re needing a Mexican food fix with items that you know and love(no pozole here!) Maui Tacos is a consistent, affordable, safe bet.

Manoa chopped salad with pork is a winner! Flavorful, refreshing, and large enough to make 2 meals for me! Service is quick and the cashier is helpful. Wish they offered kamaaina discount… Don’t forget the salsa bar to the right of the registers where they offer mild to hot salsas. The pineapple medium salsa was delicious! Woo hoo!

Yeah this is «Food Court Style» Mexican food. But this is great food court style Mexican food. 1000 times better than Taco Bell! If you are in Waikiki and want a good cheap breakfast, lunch or dinner this is the place to go. Ambience: Pleasant but busy food court at the Royal Hawaiian Center. Open air but covered with restrooms nearby. Parking: Validated parking in the Royal Hawaiian Center garage. Walking distance from most hotels. Food: Clean, fresh and fast. Large salsa bar with lots of varieties from mild to very hot. Burritos are 5 stars. Good either wet or regular and they are Huge! for $ 8.25 or so. Fish Tacos and other items are fresh and high quality. Remember this is fast food. They are not even trying to be authentic Mexican. I’ve been here quite a few times and the food is always good to great. Hawaiian Pineapple Hot Sauce is 5 Stars. Service: They use a flashing beeper system so you can go find a table while waiting. Food comes out fast. Salsa is serve yourself along with onions and other condiments. Staff is efficient but they may not always look excited about being there. I’m not looking for perky friendly staff. I’m giving it 5 stars. I’ve had $ 50 meals at some of the nearby Waikiki restaurants that were not as good as my Maui Tacos burrito.

I was actually delighted with the size and the taste of the Burrito I had. Compared to other Mexican food places around the Waikiki area it had by far the biggest size and the taste is heading towards places I’m used to in Southern California. I went there in the afternoon and though the food court was crowded my order did not take longer than 5 minutes. Some Nachos to sample the Salsa Bar were included. I liked the Salsas. However, the pineape Salsa some have mentioned had only a weak hint of pineapple in it. Will return to try some of their other dishes as well.
