Not too impressed — threw the sandwich at me with nothing in it or offering to today it? Didn’t even ask — so I did. Dirty tables and dead atmosphere. First and last here — and I haven’t even taken a bite of my sandwich yet! Edit — I took my bite, and there is no mustard or anything? Lame place. Edit#2 — and the Coke is flat!

I’m not sure why the reviews have been so bad. I was ALMOST afraid to go based on the reviews, but alas, I’m glad I didn’t listen to the naysayers. I took a coworker and neither of us had been there. We used a coupon and it was easy. I had the Philly sub and he had the grilled chicken with ranch I believe. We shared each other’s food and it was really good. Mine was simple, I had to add mayo. The onions were the best I had ever had. I usually don’t eat onions, but I could barely taste them. They were sauteed beautifully. My wheat bread was surprisingly soft. His sandwich was really good too and I thought the ranch would be weird but it wasn’t. The service was really good too! The lady let me exchange my drink for a more expensive beverage and didn’t charge me. She gave me sweet and dill pickle’s and didn’t charge me for them. To me their good and I will go back!

Have you ever had one of those Antone’s PoBoys, you know, the ones that are pre-packed in some local grocery stores? Antone’s poboys are simple and pretty delicious, soft bread, good deli meats and a relish they call Chow-Chow that is addictive! Anyway, brings me to Anthony’s. My mistake, but I thought this was the same as Antone’s! I thought, how cool, I can get one of those awesome sammiches, cept freshly made vs. the ones are that are already wrapped! Fail. Well, not completely fail. This place was not an Antone’s. Yes, they feature Poboys and Deli sandwiches and there is a Chow Chow sauce, but to my chagrin, it was not the same :/ Once a week, I am able to work on my side of town, a stone’s throw away form my boyfriend’s office! So I promised myself that I would try a different lunchtime establishment on the Westside every Thursday with my sweetheart! Anthony’s is right next to the awesome Seafood Shoppe off the Beltway at Westheimer. Josh had a muffaletta and I had a super original with the chow chow and double meat!!! Yum! My sammich did not look great but I enjoyed it enough. My boyfriend finished lunch feeling unsatisfied and still hongry! There was no gumbo or seafood on the menu. The place lacked life and if it wasn’t for the excellent company, lunch would’ve been a bust. Just go for the grocery-store Antone’s and skip Anthony’s!

Walking into this sandwich shop at peak lunchtime, only to find it almost completely empty, I only wonder how it stays in business. The fast food places nearby get plenty of patrons, so it’s not a problem with location. Anthony’s serves a selection of deli sandwiches and what they claim to be po-boys, although their po-boys are really just specialty deli sandwiches, because in no world should a muffaletta or philly cheesesteak ever be classified as a po-boy. At any rate, Anthony’s sandwiches aren’t as great as Subway or Quizno’s, so they really compete on price. The sandwiches here range from average around $ 5 to $ 6 for an 8-inch. Their po-boys aren’t great, but I the original deli sub isn’t too shabby, with a decent dressing and nice deli meats. However, as for myself, I’m quite willing to shell out the extra $ 1 to get a better sandwich at a fast food chain.

So ive been dying to find a good sandwich shop in the area. Given that my office is right near Chinatown, I tend to stick to Vietnamese subs, but I wanted to find a good deli(do they exist in Houston?). I came across Anthony’s and the lone review was good so I thought why not give it a shot. Let me start by saying that the lady who owns this place is really friendly, for that I give Anthony’s two stars. Thats where it ends though. The atmosphere is severly lacking, but that has never been a concern of mine, as long as the food is good. I order the super original(italian type sub), they give it to me with nothing on it aside from meat and cheese! I ask for the usual fixings and they oblige. The sub was very boring and didnt have much flavor. Just seemed like somthing I could whip up at home. If im paying $ 10, im hoping for something better.

Anthony’s, the deli formerly known as Antone’s. I ventured here after two individuals at a dinner party in Austin raved about Antone’s subs. «They are awesome!» «We used to get them at Exxon, but I can’t find them anymore!» When I googled Antone’s, this location showed up. When I arrived and looked at the sign, it said«Anthony’s.» Er… Did I miss something? I went in anyways and asked about the name. I was told that Antone’s de-franchised. Most of the other locations had closed. They decided to keep the store the same, but just change the name. I was told that the Original was awesome, so I decided to get 3 Super Originals(extra meat) Ol’ Boy sized. One for me. One for my friend in Austin who was raving about them. One to share this weekend. Ol’ Boy is supposed to be 18 inches long, but I’m going to guess that they are more like 20 – 22 inches. I had a 6 inch piece of one, and it was awesome. I’m not a big sandwich fan, and I hate mayo. I loved this sandwich though. I’m not sure what makes it so good. Mayo, ham, pastrami, cheese, and chow chow sauce with pickles. Simple, but so delicious. My other half says it’s the chow chow sauce. Whatever, it’s a good sandwich.
