The staff was pretty attentive and was kind. Didn’t try the hookah personally but friends enjoyed it and the place was pretty nice.

I have a special place for café layal in my heart(richmond and midtown). So obviously I was excited for this layal which is super close to my house. The place is very neat and clean. The staff is super sweet, and hookah tastes pretty good.

Love this place! So many late night noms. Not somewhere I would go during the day but the chicken gyro plate hit the spot! Will definitely be back

I have gone to the Layal on Richmond numerous times over the past years and it has been one of my favorite hookah cafes in Houston so I was extremely excited to see that Layal was opening right next to my house. However, to say that I was EXTREMELY disappointed is an understatement. The hookah was average. The food was TERRIBLE. I ordered a veggie plate and my mom ordered a gyro plate. The menu says all entrees come with hummus and rice. I asked to sub the grape leaves in my entrée with baba ganoush. They subbed it with french fries and no rice came with it. The falafel was burnt. It was rock hard and black. I complained to the manager and he said okay, he will make me new ones. He came back 3 minutes later and said«that’s just how they are, that is the color they are supposed to be.» Okay, then why didn’t you say that the first time? Why did you offer to make new falafel the first time. My mom’s gyro meat was also burnt. She said it tasted stale. As if it had been sitting out and they just recooked it. The manager was extremely rude when we complained about the food. He said«What don’t you like about it? I don’t get it. Our food is great. We have never had a complaint about the food. We have the best gyro in Houston!!!» He raised his voice so my mom and I dropped the topic. Safe to say I will NEVER be going back to this location.

They just moved into the old Bistro des Arts place… Did not do much to update the décor. We have been to both of the other locations for hookah but this new locale is definitely closer! Prices for flavors are about the same, and they offered a wide selection… we were a bit put off when we ordered a couple of «fountain sodas» and were brought two cans, $ 2.50 a piece, no refills. We wanted to try out their kitchen so we had the gyro plate with hummus and rice. Our plate came out with pieces of dried meat… the flavor was not bad but the pieces looked so sad… scraps of forgotten gyro meat :/. Josh enjoyed the hummus, I’m not a fan. The pita that accompanied the dish were also a bit stale. We may be back for the hookah since it is one of a few smack dab in our hood… but definitely skipping the food next time!

Came for the food and it was ok. The hummus taste homemade. The gyro meat is cut thick with barely any tzatziki. The chicken shawarma is just ok. This place is more for the hookah so I guess come for that.

So you can’t bring your own drinks and water bottles here… or any hookah place for that matter… The service was good. The place was empty but our server was very attentive. Hookah came out quick as well as food and beverages. I got an iced tea. Very good because it was actual tea and fresh. We order the gyros. The meat was thick and juicy. Not the thin slices of frozen crap you get at other places. Good size portions. Fries were hot and crispy. Be sure and ask for extra tzaziki sauce because the amount they give you is tiny. Also get some garlic sauce for your fries. This place was good bc we were able to grab a hookah(apple/orange/mint) and decent food at the same time. They better be on point with their hookah bc that is what makes this place worth coming to. Otherwise they have tough shwarmah competition with Phoenicia’s across the street.

Disappointed with Café Layal and this new location. My friend brought in his water bottle to the restaurant and the waiter demanded to hand it over to him because he might lose business on their own water bottles — FYI — we were the only customers there. He could have politely ask him to just place the bottle near him where it was not visible and not snatch it away. He didn’t even give back his water bottle? I know it’s just a water bottle, but it comes down more to that with customer service etiquette. BRO — if you’re going to open a new restaurant that’s just a month old and you see three customers walk in an empty restaurant — that is something you do not want to do. Anyways, we happily didn’t tip him and happily won’t ever go back.
