If you are interested in safe, spacious, classical yoga, this is your studio. If you’re wondering where you can find a teacher with life experience and mastery level understanding of how yoga works in the body, this is your studio. If you are uninterested in hot yoga or yoga aerobics, this is your studio. If you like small classes and attention on proper alignment, this is your studio. I have practiced yoga in nearly every studio in the Houston area. While I enjoy a range of practices and styles teachers, this is by far one of my favorite places for going deeper in my personal practice. I can rely on this studio to offer rich knowledge about the body and spaciousness that can only be created with a slow and mindful approach. I am deeply grateful to have found this gem of a studio. Selise has helped bring new life to my practice. I always leave her classes with joy and lightness — that yoga bliss that is abundant in beginning a yoga practice and seems to be more rare as time goes on(like 10 years in). The Level 2 classes are deep and strong, though I rarely break a sweat. I highly recommend checking out this space. Even if only to get a feel for what else is going on in yoga. When I study with teachers who have been practicing yoga for 20+ years, they are usually teaching in this style. Speaks volumes to me.

Selise is an excellent Iyegnar yoga teacher. She pays close attention to each student and knows modifications to help those with injuries or special needs. She is also knowledgeable about variations so those with more experience are able to enjoy the practice. As a result of her attention to detail, she has acquired a loyal following. Yoga Heart Studio is well equipped with props. Try one of her classes – you won’t be disappointed.

I’ve been going to Yoga Heart Studio for 18 months and have learned so much from owner Selise Stewart! She teaches Iyengar yoga which focuses on doing the poses correctly often using props, so as to be kind to the body and get the maximal stretch. They have a good mix of beginner(me) and advanced classes, both in the mornings, as well as evenings and weekends. There are usually 10 to 12 people in my morning classes, allowing for a lot of individual attention and encouragement. I prefer this setting to the giant yoga classes at the YMCA where you never get the teachers’ attention. Yoga Heart Studio is located across Westheimer from Bering’s, close to Fountain View Road.
