We went to this place based on a recommendation of a local friend. The place was pretty simple and from what we can tell it was mostly locals who were in the restaurant. I ordered the porterhouse and my wife ordered the ribeye. The steaks were only okay and needed steak sauce to add to the taste. We did enjoy the garden salad and spaghetti that came with the steak. A big plus is the friendly service and great cocktails. Go for the huckleberry vodka and tonic or martini!

I’m a little perplexed at how this place has gotten consistent 4 stars. They have 8 meat choices and 4 entrée salads, that’s it, that’s all she wrote, folks. Beyond that, if you choose a steak or the pork chop, you get a heaping portion of spaghetti with some Texas toast and a salad that has 1 beet and 1 baby carrot. wowee kazowee. Save your hard earned cash and eat somewhere else that Kalispell or Whitefish has to offer.

First time here… staff is very friendly. Busy atmosphere and loud, but steak was good and we ordered the steak with mushrooms. Enjoyed the salad before our steak and some mud pie after dinner. We would return.

If you want to feel like you have stepped back in time into the 1950’s, you may like Spencer Steakhouse. The locals apparently like it, and usually we take that as a good sign. However, we were totally underwhelmed. We were there about an hour before closing(does every restaurant in Kalispell close at 8PM?). The restaurant was busy and there were only two waitresses(one of whom was also the bartender and the hostess). We had to wait a bit for a seat. Service was slow. The waitress was friendly but had way too many tables. There was no bus boy, so tables had dirty dishes on them for quite awhile which made our wait a bit longer. The food was not very good. It costs EXTRA for mashed potatoes. I had a steak that came with spaghetti as a side. The spaghetti is not good. I also had a salad. The salad was absolutely DOUSED with dressing. It was almost like lettuce soup. The steak was okay but not special. It was possibly the ugliest looking plate of food I have ever had at a restaurant. Seriously. The single star is for the waitress, but if I could give a half star I would.

Can I give this place zero stars? I went here with a couple people who ordered steaks — they had heard it was a really good steak place, and we noticed that it was always crowded. I could tell the steaks looked gross as soon as they came out. My husband could not even finish his. It was like a steak from Sizzler or someplace like that. I had called ahead to find out what vegetarian options they had, so I had planned on getting spaghetti. Then I find out the spaghetti is served with meat sauce so that’s actually NOT an option. The waitress keeps telling me I can have«butter noodles» for dinner and we have no idea what that means and can’t get her to explain it. So I have mashed potatoes and a salad. The salad was gross — iceberg lettuce with canned beets on it! I felt worse for the rest of my party, because it’s easier to eat a crappy salad than a crappy steak. It was also incredibly expensive! And the dining room was disgusting. It was hardly better than a truck stop. I would never recommend this place to anyone! Maybe if you think Dairy Queen has good steaks you would like it.

This is my go to and I always eat here when I’m up in the valley. The menu is simple: steaks, chops and a couple fish options, and what you get is outstanding. It isn’t cheap, but at the same time it’s worth every penny. Irene always treats us great and I will be coming back for years to come.

Used reviews to base our visit to this steakhouse. Good food but disappointed no baked potatoes and mashed potatoes were an extra 3 bucks.

5 stars for service 3 stars for food I came here with a co-worker for dinner, and let me start by saying that our server was an absolute sweetheart. She was very matronly, friendly, attentive, and helpful. Basically, exactly what you expect in a local, non-chain restaurant in Montana. And for that, I give Spencer Steakhouse 5 stars for service. It was great. The food is solid. It’s not fancy, just good and solid, and at a very good value. I ordered the 20 oz porterhouse, and it was a tasty cut of meat. The cut was a bit thinner than I would have liked, and it was cooked a little more than I would have liked as well(I ordered medium rare). If you’re having trouble picturing the quality of steak I’m talking about, you can choose either Heinz 57 sauce or A1 sauce to accompany the steak. The steak came with a very nice garden salad, and was served with two big pieces of Texas Toast and spaghetti. Yup, spaghetti. I’m not sure why, but all your steaks will come with a plate of spaghetti for the table. And it was pretty good! Very non-traditional and unique, and I like it! So, 3 stars for food. Don’t expect fancy, just expect good and filling. Overall, I like this restaurant a lot. It’s very local, and I will return the next time I’m in Kalispell. If you want a solid steak for a good price without visiting a chain, this is the place to go.

Wonderful steak perfectly cooked with a no nonsense presentation ! The dining room was cozy. The service was friendly and fast. I had the barkeep make my C&C old fashioned and it was a delightful beverage though I did help her out a bit on that one! On one note, it must be local custom not to serve baked potato? They serve spaghetti on the side, is that a mountain man thing? Either way great steak and that’s what matters! I had the Ribeye! Go!

Spencer’s is the best steak in town. I typically order the sirloin because the cut is one I like and it’s not a huge, overwhelming steak. Melted in my mouth this last time. I couldn’t remember a steak being so tender. This is the third or fourth time I have been to Spencer’s and I usually leave very full and a little boozy, due to the full bar and old-school, dinner club atmosphere. It’s fun! What can I say. My one single grievance with this place is that I can’t have a baked potato with my steak, and of course, that’s personal preference. I actually thoroughly enjoy my dinner salad each time and the service is stellar every single time we visit. They treat you like you are regulars, even if you aren’t.

Pure & simple. Good food, good service, nothing fancy. Porterhouse 18 to 20 oz. was grilled perfect. Sauteed button mushrooms awesome. It would be a big mistake to put any steak sauce on this premium Montana raised beef. Salad crisp & cold. Simple menu and down home quick service. Almost forgot, this place is clean which is a real plus! Parking lot can be a little DICEY in winter.

This isn’t a bad steakhouse. My girlfriend had a decent Filet here, although she said the mushrooms were overly peppered. Not incredible, but not bad at all. Vegetarians, though, have no options here. You will eat buttered noodles, Texas toast, and a decent dinner salad. That’s literally all you get here. Score is based on her meal.

I’ve eaten at Spencer’s many times, and have always been satisfied with the food and the service. Last night was an exception. My friend and I arrived at about 7:30, the place was packed, and the hostess told us it would be a 15 – 20 minute wait. So we went to the bar and ordered a drink. 15 minutes later, we ordered another drink. 30 minutes later, and I asked the bartender if they’d forgotten about us.(The restaurant was clearing out by this time). We were seated immediately, but then had to wait about 10 minutes for our server to take our order. It took forever to get our steaks(6-oz. sirloin, ordered medium) but they were well-done and very tough and grisly. Our server was snippy and seemed to have an attitude, and she never came back to check on us. We spent a total of an hour and a half there. Extremely disappointed. I will not be going back.

The best steaks in the valley. Moderate price. Don’t go here if you are a Californian looking for presentation. Just great steaks and great staff.

Best Steakhouse in the Flathead Valley by far. The menu is simple with a variety of steaks, seafood options, great pork chop and salads. Service is always exceptional and they do have a full bar. For those that are expecting appetizers and side dishes be prepared that everyone gets a side of spaghetti and a choice of homemade mashed potatoes and/or sautéed mushrooms. The second time we went there the bartender knew our order(remembered it from our first visit) and our steaks are always cooked the way we order them.

I visited Spencer’s with a group of 6 people and while they seemed to enjoy the meat they were served the appetizer salad(bagged iceberg) and the service left a little to be desired. One of our guests ordered a cocktail, had it remade, and once more time before simply switching to wine. I, myself am a vegetarian, I travel often and am used to getting by in restaurants and finding something to eat. Here, there were absolutely no options(besides previously mentioned iceberg). I was excited by the pasta side until I found that too had meat. They offered no vegetables or other options to accommodate. End of story, I ate when I go home.

If all you’re looking for is a fabulous piece of beef, Spencer’s filet will do it. But, don’t expect a baked potato, garlic mashed potatoes, broccoli, asparagus or any other traditional side. You will get Texas toast and spaghetti.(They will hold the tomato sauce, if you ask.) We found the sides weird, but the steak was great. … so was the cocktail.

This is a local favorite and has been for years. The menu hasn’t changed much in years and everything is good, from the filets to the chops to the seafood salad. The owners manage the bar and serve as waitstaff and know most of their patrons by name. Although I have moved away, I hit Spencers everytime that I am home and have brought friends with me, from as far as London, who agree that it is second to none.
