I had the MOST wonderful morning at The Joseph Bellows Galley. With Joseph and Michael leaning about their space. Highlight of the day was seeing a Edward Weston in person.

We came here to check out the Maggie Taylor show in spring 2010. The gallery is rather petite, like the size you’ll find in most Culver City spaces, but they seem to do quite a bit with it. For the Taylor show, they really had the *right* amount of photographs out — enough to feel like it was worth the trip and get a good feel for her Alice in Wonderland series and other works, but not too many to make it feel crowded or overwhelming. I don’t recall staff coming out and greeting us while we were there, which is often for the best for me, as I hate making awkward small talk with bored gallerists! But, at the same time, I knew they were just around the corner if I had any questions. For me, this is a good balance — better than feeling like I’m being watched like a hawk by a prominent front desk. I’d definitely check out the Bellows Gallery again, and suspect that if a show they have sounds good to you, you’ll enjoy it, just as long as you don’t expect a huge museum-sized show!

It’s been really difficult for me to find an honest-to-goodness photography gallery in San Diego, so I was beside myself the first time I walked into Joseph Bellows Gallery. This place is the real deal. If you’re looking to go beyond the usual photography suspects in the San Diego art scene, you’ve found your spot. The shows are thoughtful and cohesive, and the quality of the work is stunning. The gallery represents a range of emerging and VERY established photographers(color & black and white) and has a fantastic collection of books on display to coincide with the show and/or artists represented. The gallery is at the same address, but has reduced the size of the space. The exhibitions and photographs are still top-notch. PS — If you love photography, go check out the Morrison Hotel Gallery on Prospect after you go to Joseph Bellows Gallery, which focuses on rock-n-roll/music photography.

This photography gallery is nestled within the«it» professional complex of La jolla, amid niche design and art showrooms. The highlight here is the collectors books for sale and the beautiful photography of course, all showcased in an intimate and white setting.
