Before giving too much weight to the bad reviews posted before mine, look at all the negative one-star reviews those Unilocalers dish out and you’ll realize they’re nearly impossible people to satisfy. My first introduction to The Blue Cake Company was through my workplace, which orders petit fours for employee birthdays each month. These decadent little cakes are the most awesome confections you’ll ever put in your mouth. I always thought that Gigi’s Cupcakes were the best things ever(and they’re excellent, mind you), but Blue Cake’s petit fours leave Gigi’s in the dust. Besides the treats from work, I’ve ordered a dozen petit fours for my family and again today brought home two dozen for Christmas gifts. I have yet to try anything else from their menu but can only imagine that anything from there would be delicious if it tastes anything close to what it looks like. The menu is a little on the expensive side for me, so this is only an occasional treat(Gigi’s wins the price round!), but if this was any cheaper I’d end up with diabetes..

I waited a long time to make this review. I feel like I had calmed down enough to attempt it. I came in for our appointment for a wedding cake tasting and I had brought pictures of what I wanted for our wedding cake. Well our wedding comes and the design was not the agreed on design much to my surprise walking into our reception. What?! That’s right, I paid well over a $ 1.5k for a cake that was not the design I had wanted or agreed to. But hey at least they got the grooms cake correct. Maybe it was my fault and I should have stood next to them as it was made and held their hands. But really, who has time for that? When I had contacted them they did apologize and say that there wasn’t a design In my file. So instead of calling me or telling me when I called days before to check in, they just winged it. Completely unprofessional. So I got a plain white cake that really could have been purchased at Kroger for 1⁄16 of the cost when I had paid a premium for an elaborate and what I would have thought a stunning cake. When I called a few days after the wedding to find out what had happened to my cake and they gave me their lame excuse, they did offer to make me a mock cake to take pictures with. My answer was«so you want me to cancel my honeymoon and pay more money to my very expensive photographer to come back to take pictures? How about my hair and make-up? Again?» Really?! How about no. How about you refund that«custom design» that I paid extra for on top of the cake price?! You know that super invisible design that you charged double the price for? Since it has been a while I’m glad I didn’t hold my breath waiting for my refund to arrive. They might be nice for a birthday cake but I wouldn’t trust them with your wedding cake. Hopefully it was a learning experience for them. It certainly was for me.

I just used Blue Cake Co. to make my son’s first birthday cake which came with a complimentary smash cake. I gave them some inspiration photos and bullet points of characteristics that I wanted the cake to have. The cake exceeded my expectations in adorableness. It was so precious and cute when I saw it, it brought tears to my eyes. My son really enjoyed his little smash cake and all of our guests asked who made it, not only because it was adorable, but delicious too. I will absolutely be using Blue Cake for all our special needs. I’m sold! PS– I also liked how at the time of pick-up the cake was presented to me not in a box. The employee showed me the cake then talked about storage and took special care in wrapping it. She even carried it to my car.

I’ve used this bakery in the past and I had a great experience. After 2 years I decided to come back and have a custom cake made for my boyfriends birthday. I placed this order 4 weeks in advanced mind you. Well, I received a voicemail from a man(Assuming it’s Steve Lewandowski, the owner because he didn’t even leave his name or number on the message. He said«call me back on this number and let me know if you want the cake.») stating that due to the inclement weather from the day before that my cake hasn’t even been made yet and wants to know if I still want it made.(THEDAY I’M PICKINGITUP!) I was fuming at this message. I called back, no answer at the bakery and their voicemail states to not leave a message but to e-mail. I left a message and I sent a very upsetting e-mail of how unprofessional this is and especially leaving a message with no call back number or name of whom I’m returning a call to. I finally spoke to this man and he said I just replied to you e-mail but I am unable to refund you. Once the cake is made we can not refund. I said«you stated it hasn’t even been made and I need to confirm if I still wanted it or not to pick it up by 4:30.» He said we tell that to our clients because sometimes events will be cancelled due to weather conditions like this and give it as an option. So basically he told a flat out lie about my cake not being prepared because he turns around and says«well I didn’t now people came up here and made the cake, but it’s ready.» How, the owner of this bakery do you not know if an employee comes up there and completes an order? I’m baffled by this. I’m still flabbergasted that you tell a lie about something you don’t even know if it’s true or not. This is the most unprofessional experience I have ever been endured by. Plus, this man made me feel like I was the bad guy for giving him an upsetting customer reaction. I had every right to speak to you in the way I did, but for you to give me attitude over the phone? Are you kidding me? He didn’t even do anything to make me happy.(A partial refund, a discount, etc.) The cake, is fabulous and professional. If it wasn’t the fact that I MYSELF designed this cake and my boyfriends birthday was the next day I would’ve demanded a refund. I don’t care what your policy is. You tell me one thing, then turn around and say something else. If you want great cakes made, they are great. But if you are big on customer service(like I am or any normal human being should) then don’t waste your time with this bakery. Take your money else where. For what I paid for this small cake it was over priced and the service that came with it SUCKED! I will never bring my hard earned money back to this establishment.
