Being a Marietta native, I may be committing a crime with this review, but after reading some of these reviews, I realized that somebody has to be blatantly honest about this place. I love a good sandwich shop and typically the local places are the best, but tommy’s has come up short for me multiple times. I’m sorry, but I just don’t like paying $ 5 or more on something I could easily make at home. I just feel ripped off when a sandwich is as plain as their sandwiches. I usually bring my lunch to work so when I eat out and end up paying for what I could have just brought, it really irritates me. So if you want just a normal, everyday sandwich without the hassle of a brown bag, this is your place.

This place sells your basic lunch box food on plain store bought bread. Pretty much sandwiches that you would put in your 5 year old’s lunch box minus the sogginess from sitting all day. I actually walked into this place a few months earlier, looked at the menu and left because I wasn’t even greeted when I walked through the door. I love a good sandwich so I decided to try this place again and the people working barely even spoke(maybe I look mean or something?). It’s definitely not your Jason’s Deli or Jersey Mike’s in terms of fancy sandwiches or friendliness. It wasn’t even crowded and I was the only person in line. I ordered a turkey sandwich, sweet tea, and a brownie(which tasted like a Betty Crocker box recipe). The tea wasn’t sweet at all. My bill was around $ 10. The tables and chairs are very old, it’s dark and dim, and the bathroom was pretty icky. I’d give this place an additional star if they at least tried to be friendlier, I mean, it has to have something special about it, and this place is nothing special at all. Jack’s New Yorker Deli is just a few doors away.

Tommy’s Sandwich Shop is a little shop in Marietta Square that serves up basic, no frills sandwiches for the lunch crowd. All sandwiches come with a pickle and chips. The deli meat they use tastes fresh and all of the people that work there are friendly. If you plan on visiting Marietta Square, be sure to drop by Tommy’s for a quick lunch.

I am assuming this sandwich shop has been here for ages. I had the chicken salad sandwich, ruffles, pecan pie and tap water for lunch. I didn’t find it spectacular. The chicken salad tasted too salty. I ate it and labored on, but I just felt like this place would have more to offer. Service was speedy. People were extra friendly. I will have to go back and try another item off of the menu considering that there is a long history of Tommy’s being in the square.

I can’t believe the lack of reviews! This place is delicious! I’ve had the ham sandwich which is great and the chicken salad is AMAZING. I’ll be trying to pimento cheese very soon. Every sandwich comes with a pickle and chips which is fantastic. The people that work here are super friendly and really helpful. The hours are a little disappointing(but it IS a sandwich shop which is generally food you eat during the day. not at night). I definitely recommend it and will be going back!

I’m a huge fan of the no-frills deli fare at Tommy’s. While Jack’s New Yorker Deli — located just a couple yards down the street — offers a much wider selection of sandwiches, I’m not always that enamored with their crowds. Tommy’s is a great alternative, and with much friendlier service, too. I’ve had a taste of a couple of the sandwiches at Tommy’s(mostly cold, though they offer things like pulled pork from time to time), but I find myself coming back to the chicken salad — one of the best versions on the Square, heavy on the chicken and the celery. All meals come with a wedge of pickle and a pile of potato chips; they make a great sweet tea, too(not included with the meal). The location is good, just across the street from all the two-hour street parking in front of the courthouse. A great lunch option if you’re on the Square.

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Tommy’s yet. Even more surprising is that no one else has. Set in the infamous Marietta Square among a dozen other places to eat, Tommy’s stands out due to it’s longtime history here. I remember getting excited when I was younger to go to the Square for anything because it meant a stop here for lunch, and when I got jury duty back in 2002 I was stoked because could I eat lunch every day at Tommy’s. It’s a small little place, quaint, with the major theme being sailing, there’s boat sails hanging from the ceiling at all points. The tables and chairs are pretty basic, strategically set out to maximum space, and the walls are covered in old, pealing paint and a few pictures for aesthetics. Nothing flashy because the focus here is on the food. You walk up to a tall counter to order, they make their own egg, chicken, tuna salads fresh, the rest of the meats are fresh sliced and excellent. You can pick your type of bread from basic loaf to big kaiser rolls and it’s your choice of cheeses and veggies. Sandwiches come in two sizes, the large just having more meat piled on. They also have several desserts to pick from as you make your way to the cashier, then there’s chips, gum, snacks, typical of a convenience store, and a drinks from a fountain or fresh brewed(tea/coffee). Sandwiches all come with a big slice of pickle and chips, if you eat there they just pour a big helping in the basket, to go orders get a small bag of Ruffles or Lay’s. So, again, nothing fancy, but the taste… wow. I always get a turkey and a roast beef because I love them both, with swiss of course, and they never let me down. Soooo good. My mom has always sworn to their chicken salad and my dad gets a different one every time to keep the palette curious. They’re all delicious though, and although I love a good Publix or Quizno’s sub I’ll gladly take a Tommy’s any day of the week.
