I just won’t go to a big box Italian food joint like Olive Garden when Chefs of New York is a better and cheaper option. The garlic knots are incredible. My husband loves the pasta salad and the stromboli. I always order the chicken marsala which also comes with a huge plate of pasta. My one complaint is that the chicken was a little on the small side. We’ve always gotten really quick, and polite service. It is small in there so fair warning if you go during busy times, you might wait.

The meal started out okay, garlic knots minestrone and arancini app were reslly good. Then comes the entrees… I ordered a medium mushroom pizza and my bf chicken scarpello. The pizza was nothing like new York style and the scarpello was bland. The owner came to check on us and notices we got the«California style» pizza and tells us we should have ordered new York style. We responded that we didn’t know that, since there was only one style of pizza to order on the menu(and the waitress didn’t mention an option to us either). Then we tell him we’re originally from the east coast and this is not what we were expecting. We were so dissapointed that we got home and double checked the menu. no option of ny versus California pizza. My bf then called back to say that there was no mention of two different pizzas on the menu and asked why we were told that when we were at the restaurant. The owner then admitted«there’s no California style.» If you’re looking for ny style pizza this isn’t it.

The food here is great, but I received less than courteous treatment from one of the waitresses. I changed my mind immediately after placing an order and she didn’t want to cancel it. The cook hadn’t started preparing it yet.

Great restaurant great food not too big inside if you plan on eating there but I typically order to go. Ive never seen it to packed to where it would be a problem though. The owner is extremely nice when he’s there every time I see him he speaks to me in Italian. He actually is from NY he’s a great dude talked to me for a long time and gave me good advice on moving to Italy. The foods amazing can’t beat their chicken parm. Pizza’s a bit greasy but besides that no complaints. Good place to take a date or the family. Garlic knots = A+

We were greeted and seated immediately! We ordered the arancini for an appetizer and it was so damn good! You absolutely have to order this! I ordered the clam linguini and it was fantastic! Husband ordered the sirloin and he was extremely disappointed. The steak was butterflied and came out about half an inch thick. It was overcooked. It came with a huge side of Spaghetti. He was upset because he wanted a good steak, not Spaghetti with a side of steak. I on the other hand was so impressed! The salad and clam chowder were amazing and let’s not forget about the garlic knots! One con: upon arriving, I needed to use the restroom. It is in the kitchen and the outside of the door is black-filthy! Grossed me out, but after eating I quickly forgot about it!

Why you so stingy with garlic knots? 3rd to go order, 3rd attempt to order extra garlic knots. My meal is served with garlic knots and I order a side order of 6. I am no mathematical genius but I should receive more then the side order. The garlic knots are great don’t be stingy. This is the reason a «baker’s dozen» of created. Minus 1 star for not completing my order correctly 3 times.

This was our 1st time at this New York Chef. We were very pleased with the service and food. We had a half pepperoni and Canadian bacon and pineapple. Pizza was excellent. Will return.

It seems like the customer service and food is going downhill. I used to love this place but the pizzas are so soggy and hard to pick up. The chicken Marsala was incredibly sweet and disgusting. My friend ordered the chicken Marsala with angel hair pasta. It was so sweet and didn’t taste that good. We asked if we can get something new because she only took a bite. At most restaurants, they would be able to let us order something else out of the menu if we didn’t like a dish. They took it to the kitchen and told us that they can only give us a 15% discount. Like what??? Ummm give us the pasta back. It used to be my «go to» place but now I don’t think I’ll be back. What a waste of money

Rude, rude, and oh yeah rude!!! Was super excited to try this place. Unfortunately, walked in, with 6 people so would have paid a good amount for dinner, and the tall guy there(owner?) starts yelling at us as if we are on some sort of a banned list. Then the waitress, in also a rude way, told us to wait outside. There were 3 tables open and if they were still setting up could have approached in a nice, respectful way. What happened to the saying, without customers your business wouldn’t exist?! Sad that these business owners don’t care to be respectful.

We were referred to this place by a friend. My wife loves cannolis and we heard they were good here as well as the pizza. My kids decided to take her here for Mother’s Day. Reviews show Vinnie the owner to be welcoming. Here’s my first impression of him when myself, my wife, and my children walk into his restaurant…“WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, What’s going on here!” My wife quickly responded …“Table for 6???” Another employee there said…“You will need to wait outside, it’s crazy in here” AREYOUKIDDINGME!!! Hey Vinnie, you must be from New York… your rude!!!

This place is delicious! The restaurant is small but has a nice atmosphere. The food is so good! My husband started out with the clam chowder. The bowl is gigantic. And it was very good. I had the house special soup, I can’t remember the name of it, pasta something, and it was very delicious as well. They also brought us some garlic knots which were delectable. My entrée was the Shrimp Parmigiana, the shrimp were huge, the sauce was amazing, and it was smothered in mozzarella cheese, it was fantastic. My husband had a Stromboli and it was oh so tasty too! We will definitely be back soon!!!

A sugar bomb! Had the shrimp fradiavola with pasta. It was like getting smacked with pure heat then sugar. The Marsala was equally sweet and disgusting! We had less than 5 bites then decided dinner was over. Not coming back. Ps. Wait is long for both a table and the food.

I’ve been here a couple times usually for take out. Food is decent, probably better than average. We got a table outside because it was a nice spring feeling Saturday evening. The owner I’m assuming greeted us very quickly and friendly and got us seated. After that things went kind of down hill. The waitress seemed bothered or in a hurry or something. She took our order but then proceeded to set everything on the table edge not really in front of us. One meal was set on the corner, nothing said, and she walked away. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not someone who thinks the service has to be crazy good but at least set the food where I can reach it… Might go back, might not. Maybe stick to take out if I go back. The food is decent enough but not 5 stars worth like some reviews here. It’s a step up from chain Italian, nothing more.

So I was visiting a friend and this place had come up as a topic for what to eat for the evening. I can’t really turn down something carb based despite the bad effect it can have on my waistline. That and I don’t think I’ve had actual pasta for months so this would be a good little journey back on the horse. From the outside it looks a bit tiny, there’s a little bit of seating outside and a bit more inside the restaurant. When we had gotten there there were only 2 groups aside from us so the noise level wasn’t too crazy. Half an hour goes by and the restaurant had filled up except for one table. Seems like quite a few families come by here with a number of small children. When all of them begin chorusing together, it can get pretty loud in the places. It didn’t seem like there was a wait at all but we also came in on a Sunday which may have had something to do with that. The service was attentive to a point, and very nice. When the mass majority of the restaurant patrons showed up all at once there was a drop in productivity but that’s to be expected. They came by to check on us frequently once things had slowed a bit which was good. Yum garlic knots. Don’t need to mention that more because if you come here it comes with a lot of the meals. You will eat them and enjoy them. Nom. Anyway, I had ordered the Sicilian trio, my friend had gotten a custom dish with creamy pesto, chicken and penne pasta. The Sicilian trio was yummy as a whole. I thought there was a bit too much rice in the stuffed bell pepper but melted cheese solves everything. Everything was cooked properly, and I’m always happy when cooked vegetables are cooked well and haven’t gotten to complete mush status. The custom dish could’ve been better I think but I figure that has more to do with customizing properly beforehand. I think it would’ve been better with a regular pesto sauce and grilled chicken. The fried chicken wouldve worked too in this case. This dish came out as ordered with the creamy pesto and sliced fried chicken. Both of these components had their own distinct flavor which didn’t really meld. I’d say the chicken was like a chicken parm, minus the tomato sauce. When combined in a bite with the pasta it overwhelmed the sauce and made the bite imbalanced. I think adding sun-dried tomatoes and maybe a more demure cheese would have balanced out the bites and made for a more complete dish. Aaaaaaaanyway I didn’t order this to begin with so maybe other patrons will learn from this haha. All in all it was tasty. Not the best I’ve had but good for the price. I probably wouldn’t come here regularly since it isn’t really my cup of tea but every now and then it’d be a nifty fix.

Where do I even begin. The food was phenomenal. The owner just as great ! The clam chowder was great The vege soup was filling and I could eat just that ! The owner was sweet and all his recommendations turned out to be amazing !! Listen to him people when he recommends something, he obviously knows what he is talking about. Huge portion sizes, good food, good service. A gem in modesto Side plus in my book: it was a winter night so I had my dogs in the car with me and that’s where they stayed when I had dinner . They do bark when someone is by the car. Owner was so nice about my dogs and he seems like he loves animals. Big plus in my book. Great experience

Vinnie is super welcoming! Our first visit, felt right at home. Great recipes of the kind that only come from many loving generations of Nonnas. Their marinara sauce is outstanding. You could improve almost any dish with it. It was excellent on the baked ziti with eggplant. My wife had a penne with marinara and the house meatballs — succulent. Perhaps not italian, but excellent, the clam chowder. And don’t forget the garlic twists that come along… pretty addictive. Went back to try the Pizza — very good. Again, nice sauce. Go for the food and the vibe!

Ate dinner here last night and usually the food is pretty good, but this time around it was nasty. In the middle of my lasagna I was chewing my food and I started to chew more than usual and I thought I was chewing on burnt cheese but when I took this out of my mouth it was a long piece of plastic that looked like a bandaid. I was sooo grossed out that I told the waitress and she came to get the piece to take it to the back and after a few minutes she gave me a receipt with the lasagna taken off and just left without even apologizing or even look of concern like she didn’t give a shit. I was pissed and asked her why she isn’t handling more professionally and she really had that I don’t give a fuck look. She even tried to justify why it was there in the first place! Lmao! Food is not as fresh as everyone thinks and service from this particular girl was awful. I will not ever visit this place again. Saw some other bad reviews and they share the same sentiment as me, the waitress there sucks!!! I forgot her name but I know who everyone is talking about. Sorry Vinny but ur place has gone down hill for awhile.

The food, as ever, is excellent. The marinara sauce perfection itself. Only thing that is missing: no Vinnie! Darn! Dinner here without the Crown Prince just isn’t the same! Kimberly was taking up the slack inhis absence — allegedly because of a knee injury. C’mon, Vinnie: we know you’re at the Mall shopping for your customers, uh, family… We’ve not been here since Mother’s Day because of my wife’s illness, and we just couldn’t bring ourselves this evening to have food that wasn’t prepared for the gods. The calzone was wonderful, a culinary masterpiece! Each bite, the morsel sort of floated toward the mouth, lightly guided by the fork for the salivating mouth to taste this bit of delightful heaven. So good — almost sinful in its pleasures — I felt the need to go to Confession.(I’m not Catholic, either.) I continue to recommend the William Hill Estate Cabernet Sauvignon(2013). Of course, I wish that it was 10 years older, but it still works if you love a Cabernet. Rarely have I ever seen a staff that hustles so much. Kimberly and Rita both tried to wear out the carpet checking on us. How is the salad? Would we like more water? How is everything? I’d be very difficult to please if I had any complaints about the food or the service. Did I mention how good the marinara sauce is? The very essence of goodness… the stuff that angels weep about… For this, the gods themselves toil in vain. The tiramisu was positively sinful. Yes, Confession is mandatory now. Vinnie, when I go to heaven(or warmer climes), please pour a gallon of your marinara sauce into my coffin. I’ll be in heaven in either case… To Vinnie and the staff of Chefs of NY, thank you for such a delightful environment you provide to enjoy the wonderful creations you, your staff and restaurant have served us this year and in the past. Know that we’ve appreciated every minute spent — every second a gift — in your restaurant these many years, and we appreciate the wonderful experience dining as your guests. Thank you. Please have a blessed Christmas. May you flourish and prosper, and live in peace.

I heard that this is the best pizza in Modesto. So last night I decided to taste for myself. I called in my order for pick up. A small combination pie. 14″ &8 slices. Bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives, pepperoni, sausage, & meatballs. The crust isn’t thick or thin, but somewhere in the middle. I’ve been eating so many thin & flatbread pizzas in SF(Delfina, Tony’s, Baonecci, Ideale) for so long now, this was a huge departure for me. The crust was seasoned, buttery, & crisp throughout. Props for that. There’s nothing worse than a soggy crust, outside of bland sauce & poor quality. But CONY clearly doesn’t have that issue. This is authentic pizza parlor pizza. The bite isn’t deep dish or thin crust, but doughy, moist, & crisp. The toppings were fresh, & the meatballs were tender. Remember high school pizza night? Going to a pizza joint after a football game? This reminded me of that pizza. A little decadent, a lot of flavor. And totally satisfying. All in all, I’m a thin crust girl. This was a bit too doughy for me, personally; but it certainly was very good. My order was ready in the quoted 25 minutes. When I walked in, the hostess/server knew it was me from my phone order. «You must be Veronica…» Personal & nice. Very good things. It’s small, warm, & cozy. 12 tables inside(4 of them large booths), & a few tables outside. A family neighborhood joint. The best part? The old school black & white family pics all over the place. Famiglia. Tasty & solid. 4 stars.
