I visited this store for the first time yesterday. TONS of STUFF! Wide variety of music and movies. Well-organized, reasonably-priced. My only disappointment was that one disc was missing from the KRAFTWERK double CD «Minimum-Maximum», but it was clearly noted on the label and marked at $ 3-something. Also, I understand the need to seal the covers and cases for security, but I miss the good old days when I could open a used album or CD and look at the liner notes, etc. They should just keep the discs locked up behind the counter. [So people can’t sneak in with portable downloading devices.] Thieves suck. Anyway, if you need tunes and flicks, check out Rasputin Music. :]

Not that it matters, but Modesto as I city is almost useless. But this store is the jewel; and, maybe the staff has no clue, but they have a great selection and prices. The stock is constantly replenished and I find awesome stuff every time I go for very cheap. I’ve spent nearly 10 hours there in all of 4 or so times I’ve visited the store, and only have minor complaints. If I have to nitpick, the music they play is mostly very Pop punk and emo in origin for the most part, which is a shame because they have so many great albums sitting on the shelves. Then they switch it up with some hip hop, ugh. Also, like most of their other stores I spend half of my time sitting on the floor. Plus it’s in Modesto so the average consumer is looking for Chicago or some old whatnots that are already done for.(No disrespect to Chicago, but the market is flooded…) The staff is pretty nice if you engage them, but maybe it’s me. Maybe it’s because I’ve been there and done that, and expect to be blown away by a record store employee that I assume knows what’s up. They seem to work hard and have to deal with a lot of bull. They could use a bathroom for customers, because I for some reason always have to leave early due to needing one. Rasputins stores are the cheapest and best music stores outside SF. I used to hit Dimples Records a lot more but it’s as if they are stuck on pause with their selection. I could gripe about most stores, even my favorite Amoeba in SF. I almost always have to go online for worthwhile purchases when it comes to music. But Rasputins is way better than what that area ever had.

Pretty good selection but shithead staff. I got a defective brand new sealed LP. The didn’t have any others but told me I could call all other 12 stores in the chain to see if they had a replacement. Otherwise totally unwilling to facilitate correcting the problem with their other stores. Pathetic service. Zero help.

Just awesome people that work there. And very patient. I walked in with a box full of movies and gave them my number. When they were done, I went back got my cash and went on my way.

Ok. Great selection. A few good finds until they pulled the«old switcheroo» behind the counter during a «3 for $ 10» event. WATCH them CLOSELY!

I love Rasputin’s with all my heart. I’ve been shopping the Stockton store since it opened, but recently discovered the Modesto store, and was pleasantly surprised. Better lighting, cleaner and more organized. Seems a bit smaller than the Stockton store, but believe me, I found plenty to buy. Only quibble I have at the moment is that the 50¢ selection is a lot smaller than Stockton’s. But I think Stockton’s 50¢ section is where all the other stores send their overstock to die. The Stockton store has many errors when filing items(Rock Candy Funk Party in Jazz?!? C’mon, the name of the band even tells you the style!), and the cards separating the discs look awful and are often misspelled(Lynyrd Skynard, really??), but again, I quibble. I bought the 2 Courtney Barnett CDs recently for $ 8 each, I think. Saw them at the Last Record Store in Santa Rosa, and they were marked $ 14.99! Yikes! And what’s hotter than a record store chick, I ast ya?! Mmmmmm. I have schoolboy crushes on several. ;) Rock on, Rasputin’s! I’ll support you until I can’t hear anymore.

Yes! A place where I can get real music media rather than MP3. I’m an old curmudgeon and I don’t feel like I have purchased music unless it’s in a physical medium. Vinyl! Oh the muses of music are smiling on Modesto. I’ve purchased a dozen used and new CD’s here so far and have always had a good experience. Very good selection and a wide variety of music.

We had to downsize our DVD collection since our office is turning into a nursery. So we took 2 diaper boxes full of DVD’s, one box and three black trash bags full of DVD’s. I’m thinking maybe 170 or so DVD’s. We left our name and number for them to call us since they said it would take 2 hours to go through. So I headed over to the mall to run my errands. 2 hours later they called me and I headed back over and they offered $ 124.00 for them all. They weren’t able to take about 8 of them but that’s fine. I even looked for Disney CD’s for my daughter and I to listen to the car. I’m getting tired of the Frozen soundtrack over and over. LOL Was able to find Toy Story 2, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. Only paid $ 14 for all three, great deals. Cash in hand out the door. I will be back to find CD’s, DVD’s, and they even had books. Great big store, and great friendly staff.

I’m stoked that we finially have a music store in Modesto that isn’t FYE. Great selection of new and used CDs, DVDs and records. Always enjoy going in a rummaging around to find new albums. Friendly staff as well.

I am happy that my neighbors to the south of me(Stockton) finally have a Rasputin Music of their own. We have had Rasputin’s for 8 years so it is nice that they are expanding into the Central Valley. Now they need to open Rasputin’s in Merced and Bakersfield. As for Modesto, the dominos are already falling. FYE in nearby Vintage Faire Mall is already closed. I wouldn’t be surprised if the McHenry Ave FYE store closes its doors too. Unfortunately Rasputin may affect longtime used store, Salty’s Record Attic. In Stockton, Rasputin’s killed off longtime used store Replay Records.

They apparently just opened on Black Friday. I’m still dumbfounded that Rasputin’s came to Modesto. But grateful. Pretty good selection overall. They’re still pulling things out of boxes so it’s not quite together yet. Nice to have a legit music/movie store in Modesto finally. Now I don’t have to trudge to Stockton or the Bay if I want to go to Rasputin.
