Steak ‘n Shake

It’s Steak ‘n Shake. Go with coupons in hand and you will be hard pressed to find a better burger meal for the price anywhere else.
I’ve been here numerous times. The servers can be slow at times (they are quite busy often) but they’ve always been friendly.
They mess up the orders a little sometimes, but not that often based on how busy they are during peak times.
My biggest complaint is they sometimes leave milkshakes sitting too long before delivering them to the table and they are melted. If this happens and you ask they will remake it. I also don’t like it when they run out of glass milkshake goblets and serve them in styrofoam.
For the money… Not a bad place. Not healthy… But tasty!

This place has a few HUGE issues. I had went her with a few friends for one of my friends birthday. We went through 4 different waiters one of which directly told us he had forgotten about our table! So anyways lets also mention their sanitation score. At a B it doesnt sound so bad, but that is an 89 (or so) Having been someone that has gone through a servsafe course that is ABSOLUTELY DESPICABLE! Well aside from the fact our food took FOREVER to come to our table the manager (a middle aged chunky guy with shoulder length hair and glasses) was an absolute smart ass. And right before we left there was a couple with a young child (maybe 2 or 3) sitting close by to us, the young boy vomited and what does the manager do? Rather than sending someone over or simply DISINFECTING the area himself, NO! NO DISINFECTING! Ha he gave the young boys dad some napkins! I truly hope this STOPS someone from possible food poisoning!

My wife and I dropped in for lunch one day. We waited over ten minutes to be seated. We waited twenty minutes before someone took our order, and after sixty minutes we still didn’t have any food. We got up, paid for our drinks and left. We were very disappointed in the service to say the least.

Every time my family goes to Steak and Shake, there is a problem. It is usually a service and wait problem. Sometimes the waitresses have social hour by the drink machine. Sometimes the manager is acting like a child. It’s been going downhill for a year now.
Last visit:
Nasty, nasty restaurant! This has to be one of the dirties restaurants around. On our last visit, the food and service was actually not bad (for a change, the service is normally beyond bad). However, the restaurant conditions were horrible. The floors were so nasty that my daughter (who shouldn’t have been in the floor in the first place) went under the table to get a crayon and the knees of her pants were black when she got out. The bathroom was nasty, so were the walls. Gross. Some of the people working in the kitchen had their pants hanging down so much that you could see boxer shorts, that isn’t acceptable especially in a restaurant. Upon leaving, we noticed the sanitation grade of 87. That made perfect sense. We mentioned it casually to the cashier who made the excuse that the health inspector came on a Saturday… that doesn’t matter, they still haven’t cleaned. We will not be going back.
There was an abundance of trash in the parking lot as well, not just in one area, all over the parking lot.

Love this place, but it’s like pulling teeth going through the drive-​thru. Many items are not on the outside menu and it’s very difficult to order when the person taking the order can’t reference their own menu. Yikes. Otherwise the fries and great and the chicken sandwich with guacamole is fantastic.

Worst location.
If you enjoy being ignored, getting the wrong order, being ignored some more, and waiting 30 minutes for a milk shake. be my guest.
Every waiter/​waitress we get is a nincompoop.

Drive thru order. After getting my food I saw a picture here on Unilocal of a raw chicken and made me paranoid .i checked all my food to make sure it wasn’t raw since we also ordered fried chicken. Our food was fine pheww. Now about the food, the fries were really skinny like mc donalds fries but a bit better tasting. One of the hot dogs came smushed. I had a burger that had egg in it which was ok bun was also kind of smushed. I wouldn’t really come back to this place knowing that my food could be undercooked. Shakes are better at cook out. (I had a nutella shake here)

Waitress was bad. Had a group of three two went to use the bathroom and by the time they came out she had been to the table 3 times wanting to take the order. I ordered there milkshakes. As soon as they sat down she was back again. Didn’t even have time to look at a menu. By the the time we ordered. We didn’t get our shakes till the meal was almost done. Kept telling us they will be out soon.

The food tasted a little strange. Felt the oil/​butter they used was old or something. Had to throw half my food away.

My mother and father and my two children dined here last Saturday. We all decided to choose Steak and Shake because it was quick and inexpensive. Most definitely the place to go when you have two young children. We were greeted very quickly at the door and were sat immediately. The server was quick to greet us. She definitely did not seem excited to be there. She took forever to deliver our drinks. We ordered our food and received it in a timely manner. I ordered the chicken melt with a side of cottage cheese with pineapple. The chicken portion was tiny and the taste was bland. The cottage cheese was runny and had a random piece of lettuce in it. The pineapple tasted sour! My mother tried the pineapple and said the same thing! Really disgusting. My mother ordered the grilled cheese steak burger and the meat portion was tiny! She did love the onion rings and asked the waitress if they were hand battered or frozen and the waitress did not know. I asked for extra honey mustard when I ordered my meal and did not receive it. Had to ask for it again when I was halfway through my meal. We needed more napkins as we were a party of five with two children. We couldn’t find our server so we asked another waitress for some and she said «ok sure» and we never received them. We had to get some napkins from near the register. The ketchup on our table was nearly empty and had to search on a few tables and finally found one that was full. All in all the food was mediocre if that. The service was lack luster. I do not remember her name. She had bleach blonde hair and heavy black eye makeup. She did get double sat from what I saw. I understand being busy but if you need help you should ask! I do not plan on visiting this location again.

Just got ²⁄₃ of my meal comped. The food itself tasted way subpar, and my western bbq bacon cheeseburger came with 1 tiny piece of bacon, 1 tiny dollop of bbq and no crispy onions straws. Had to get a side of bbq, side of bacon, side of onion straws and a side of onions just to get everything that was supposed to be included on the burger.
Also, my wife ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries with cheese. Her burger had about ½ a piece of bacon, barely any cheese, and the fries had no cheese on them. The side of cheese we got for that tasted like powdered cheese from those cheap boxes of Mac n Cheese you get at the supermarket. Oh, and our milkshake took 25 min to come out, by which time we were almost done.
We heard at least 3 other groups complain just in the time we were there, either about the poor service, poor food, or lack of milkshake that they ordered. The waitresses were apologizing constantly. The manager was parked up front by the register, comping meal after meal for dissatisfied customers.
This place used to be so good, but it’s spiraled way downward. The only good thing was my meal became almost free with the comps, but that’s not enough to make me ever come back here willingly. I’d eat S’n’S in another state maybe. This one is too far gone.

Would give a negative star if available. Horrible service in the drive thru Waited 10 minutes (at 9pm and empty inside and no other cars in line) and both hamburgers were wrong and the fries cold and chewy Seems like each time we come to this location it is worse than the last time ! I have always loved Steak and Shake but this one needs some major work!

Since i cant find my review i wrote 1 week ago ill add another! Mind you yes i realize its a fast food style chain and what am i expecting?.. really. NOT salmonella! The place is always dirty. Always. My boys are out of school and wanted a milkshake. Ok. Turns out they wanted some food (cringe) after a 20 minute wait we got RAW CHICKEN. The place is gross. The pull is the cute diner décor that you cant help but want it to be good. The manager came over and comped the foul food. Note to Steak and Shake: clean the tables and the greasy finger prints off the seats please. Try not to complain about your job and the cleaning of bathrooms were people are eating. Above all, dont serve raw meat to children. Reminds me about a month ago we stopped in at happy hour and i bought a few teacher gift cards, sour little waitress says «i cant use your card». Troll. I said why? She rolls her eyes doesnt respond and calls for a manager, manager says «sorry the service is down». Ok. Said Troll. you dont know how to communicate… place sucks.

I am thoroughly disappointed with the trip here today. We waited 15 minutes before we finally asked for menus. Then we waited 45 minutes just to get our food. The waitresses waited on the 4 tables that were seated after us before even coming to get the drink order.
We have had several issues at this Steak and Shake but I keep giving them chances. They do seem to finally have a manager that works. He was trying desperately to clean tables, seat people, run food to tables, and check people out. He definitely has his hands full, but I believe that he will fix all their issues. But it’s going to take some time. I will go back, but it will be a while.

Same Non Existend Service as the last time I was in here in November.
Elsewhere on Unilocal is my review of this restaurant from back in November. Decided to give them another shot this evening and results were the same.
Walked in and a number of tables were vacant. One server walked by after bussing a table and told me she would be right with me and seat me and then disappeared.
5 minutes later after no contact from her or anyother Steak ‘n’ Shake employee, I left
Did not try the drive thru ploy this time since it didn’t work last time.

I have NEVER witnessed a lack of sanitation in a restaurant as I did here tonight. Coughing over drink machine. Wiping nose on hand then waiting on guests with no hand washing. Mopping floor then delivering food without hand washing and those are all different people until I got grossed out and stopped watching! Management needs to remind employees of flu season!!! This is how it is spread!

The food, service, and ambiance all are better than fast food burger joints. I would rank the service at this location better than average for the chain.

Last trip ever. Drive through kid questions me and laughs in my face about total, manager straightens it out and acts all funny. Food is complete ****. Salad was days old and had the old produce smell to it, cheese fries were half hour old or better, double steak burger had everything on it and somehow had no taste. Milkshake was drinkable but not up to standard. This place was king in 2000. Theyve changed the meat and cut w/​bunch of filler its ridiculous. Only went bc of coupons would be like 13 and change for this. You could hit a good sit down restaurant for the same price. Will be back not this location and please milkshakes only wtf is wrong w/​these household name businesses now they just try to sell a mf anything because their established.

We often go here after church because kids eat free and the kids love it. We got there just before 7 and they were truly packed! It took a while to get seated but we knew it would as they were busy. Once we got seated, it took our waitress 15 minutes to come to the table. In that time, the 2 tables seated after us had received their drinks and placed their orders. She did come over, no apology for the waiting time, and asked if we were ready. We placed our order and our drink order and waited. Drinks were delivered fairly quickly but she showed up at the table with a look of confusion and couldn’t remember which drink was which. Crisis averted and we figured it out. No, we waited some more. The two tables seated after us had gotten their food and were eating. One table had gotten their food and their milkshakes by the time we got our food. I finally asked the manager if he could check on our food and it happened to be sitting in the pick up window. After all the waiting, the food was delivered by the manager and my salad was made incorrectly– I ordered no tomatoes and they were all over my salad. The manager fixed that quickly and made me a new salad by himself.
We ate our food and drank our drinks and our waitress never came back to check on us. I had to ask the manager for ranch… And then ask again because he had forgotten as well.
The manager then gave us two coupons for free milkshakes so, against my better judgement, I let the kids order shakes. They took a while but not an obscene amount of time.
We were not the only people having issues. There was a table next to us that had their food delivered incorrectly FOUR times! The restaurant was filthy– floors were covered in French fries and grease. It was a very disappointing experience. We were in there for almost 2 whole hours leaving just before 9:00.

New favorite fast food, I like their décor and kids eat free when you dine inside is a big plus.
