So sorry that this place closed down. This was one of my favorite go to places for a quick bite. Food and service was always great.

This is so sad. I can’t believe this place has closed. My absolute go to for hummus with mushrooms and pita /side of veggies. Always consistent and fresh, I am sad it is no longer :(

Hummus Place has singlehandedly sworn me off store-bought hummus and pita. Their hummus is insanely creamy and smooth with a full chick pea kick, their pita warm fluffy and just MMMMMGOOD. Can I also rave about their service? Speedy, accurate and super nice! I’ve been at this location for both brunch and dinner– both are amazing deals, considering the quality of the food and the amount. Definitely recommend the hummus platter where you can try all the types of hummus– my personal favorite is the mushroom hummus, which simply has mushrooms atop the hummus. I got the falafel sandwich as well– comes with a hearty pile of really good fries too, and all for $ 10! Try their mimosas and sangria too! I really feel like you can’t go wrong with this place.

Uhhh I really love this place. I have never had fluffier, fresher pita OR more delicious and fresh hummus. I shall never by hummus from the grocery store again. I went there for the first time today(usually I just get delivery) and the girl behind the counter was super nice, and the place has a cute vibe. The falafel here is great too, and I like how they specify what’s vegan and what’s not. Go now!

Came here with a couple of my girlfriends, we ordered a few items and shared. I definitely thought the menu was a little confusing and could have been presented better. We ended up ordering, hummus, eggplants, and their tuna sandwich. They had good size portions and without a doubt the best item was the hummus. Everything else was ok, but nothing special. I would go back for the hummus. The service was also a little slow but the waitress was very friendly when we did see her. This is a good spot for catching up with friends and hummus, it’s a little hard to spot from the outside since their sign isn’t super eye-catching, but it’s worth the price.

I love Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food! Thank god for hummus or my vegetarian protein needs would be depleted to tofu and more tofu. We had the amazing hummus place platter full of 4 different flavors of hummus. The two of us underestimated the amount of food so we ordered falafel, roasted eggplants AND the za’atar pita. The flavors that come with the hummus platter are masabacha, fava bean, tahini, and mushroom. They were all delicious, a tad salty but the hummus itself was smooth and decadent! Very fresh! Falafel we both love so it was a must, surprisingly good but a bit greasy. Roasted eggplant was amazing, melt in your mouth! The za’atar pita we regret ordering because it is like a pita pizza… Pita bread with labneh yogurt cheese, tomatoes, za’atar spices, olive oil. It was filling! In addition we also had whole wheat pita for the hummus so we were stuffed to the max!!! Def too much food for 2 people. I love hummus and have it almost every day but after this I couldn’t look at it for a week. Crazy thing is the total only came up to $ 25! So cheap for so much food! Come with many people. It is too much to enjoy alone.

Their hummus is thick like paste with a subtle flavor. It’s good but I don’t see the rave in it. It’s average but better than what you’d find in the supermarket like Sabra. I didn’t taste any special notes like the flavor of the beans(maybe just a little) or lemon or spice, it was plain and simply good. The chickpeas made a nice addition to mix in. The falafels are good, I didn’t detect any after or weird taste, nice and clean, just a herb mixed in. I’ve had my share of falafels over the years and I can’t say this is one of my favorite spots to get them, not because they were bad but again pretty average just like the hummus. The shell of the falafels were lightly crusted, dark but not as if burnt and when bitten into you could see the bright clear mash inside. I had worst and I’ve had better. Overall good with no complaints. It’s a simple menu and make for a simple meal if in the mood for this type of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean type food.

The BEST hummus I have ever had, So smooth and creamy in texture, excellent balance of chick peas and tahini without any overpowering taste of spice. Most hummus tastes somewhat tart probably due to using canned chickpeas soaked in brine water, the hummus here has none of that; just pure fresh legume butter with subliminal scent of sesame, and some cayenne sprinkle. Their hummus comes with a topping, the mushroom topping I chose turned out like a match in heaven! The babaganush and tzatziki formed the other two dishes of the meze set of choice of three. The babaganush was made with eggplant that must have been grilled and the subtle charred taste exudes smoky sexiness to a dish that is usually mediocre. This was dope with the accompanying warm pita, we chose wholemeal over white. The tzatziki was just not bad but kinda too liquidy, gazpacho comes to mind. But I used it to add an additional flavour to our other dish of fabulously prepared couscous with warm seasonal veggies of zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, potato, celery bits, parsley, more yummy freshly made chickpeas, roasted almond shavings, mini size raisins and wonderfully seared caramelized onion. What a great tasty dish, I had such an epic moment even though I am someone who swears by whatever BBQ pork and fried chicken! And I also enjoyed a glass of freshly squeezed carrot and beet root juice, so delightful!

Awesome GF and Vegan place! The portions are hefty — we got two appetizer combos(3 starters for $ 12). For two people, 6 starters was plenty to satiate us. We ordered the hummus, babaganoush, tzatziki, cauliflower, beet salad, and falafel. Everything was well-made and seasoned. It’s hard to choose favorites but the cauliflower, beet salad, and hummus are worth trying. You can also sub out pita for corn tortillas.

Inside is much nicer than it appears to be. The Mezze plate is great for sharing and for variety, however it only comes with one pita even if you order 3 Mezze plates. Really? Last time it was unlimited pita. Vegetable Soup — healthy and light, but not worth $ 6 The service was subpar. Upon entering, about 5 staff members were just chatting in the kitchen and took a couple minutes before greeting and seating us. The waitress also forgot our drink order. There food is still good, healthy, and(now somewhat) affordable. There is also never a wait here.

The name says it all: hummus, in many forms, is king here. Hummus with mushrooms, hummus with tahini, hummus with fava beans… it’s like stepping into a little piece of hummus heaven. The food comes out Middle Eastern style with more than you can possibly finish. Or maybe that was just the way we ordered it. To start, we ordered a bunch of appetizers to get a taste of everything and then also a hummus platter, eggplant sandwich, and feta salad. The beets in the feta salad were excellent and balanced out the richness of the hummus dishes quite nicely. Besides ordering every combination with hummus, I’d suggest the falafel and beets. The cauliflower wasn’t amazing(it was too al dente for my taste). A warm yellow color on the walls brightened the space and Moroccan dishes and stencil patterns added decorative touches. Goldstar(Israeli beer) can also be found here!

I love hummus, completely love. That’s why I went here. A bit disappointed with the small portion sizes and that the hummus tasted a bit artificell, but it’s a nice place and staff is really nice as well. Still hunting for the best hummus.

I came here with a groupon deal. I love hummus so I have to be here. Appetizer: — falafel. well it’s a hummus place so if you can I will suggest you to stay out of falafel. which means it wasn’t that great. it tasted pretty weird. I don’t taste anything in between besides fried. Entrée: — cous cous: it was cooked with some almonds and raisins. Perfect for sharing. — Hummus platter: 4 different kinds of hummus. mushroom, chickpea, sour cream?, beans. my favorite is chickpea of course. we asked for more pita bread. if you are sharing. cous cous and hummus platter are perfect. their portion is so big that me and my friend who are big eaters can’t finish. oh man. We also ordered sangria. well their sangria wasn’t as great. but ok. Entrees are all good. that’s why I give this place 4 stars. and it is named as hummus place. so yea. hummus here is great.

I have been ordering and enjoying hummus for years. Now that hummus has gone main stream, more and more places seem to offer this delicious food and I have been coming to a place that predominately the entire menu has hummus: Hummus Place. Which is a small vegetarian restaurant in the East Village, where hummus is the name of the game. As you walk in, you enter a small vestibule area with a counter. The restaurant has a semi open kitchen in the rear just behind the counter. On the right, there is a side room where a dozen or so tables in a very comfortable and easy living feel space. Service is laid back and friendly, always a smile and attentive. Interesting enough, I find every time I come here I am satisfied with my order. Then again, I seem to order the same items from a limited selection. This is not an issue just an observation since I have never left hungry. I usually start with a Mezze Plate(3 items for $ 10). You can choose from: Tahini, Babaganush, Labane, Tzatziki, Hummus, Cup of Soup and Marinated Olives & Pickles served with pita chips. They are all delicious with a variety of flavor profiles that compliments my entrée order; the Hummus Place Platter. The platter is a combination of 4 individual hummus plates top with fava beans, mushrooms, chick peas and Tahini. They offer regular or whole wheat pita bread with the entrée. Mixing and matching items with some of their spicy hot sauce hits the spot. I am not a hummus connoisseur, but the different flavors and texture makes me not miss meat. My wife and I always are happy with food, service and there is always food to take home. They do serve adult beverages, but it is beer, red and white wine with limited overall options. Not the end of the world. When eating healthy alcoholic beverages should be limited. Think not lol… CC friendly; yeah. Overall, if you are in the area and looking for a light, but filling meal Hummus Place is a very good option. Food is good. Reasonable pricing. Friendly service. Groupon friendly with no attitude. While I am sure it is crowded on weekends; I never have an issue for a table during a late lunch. I highly recommend Hummus Place as a Village restaurant.

came here with a groupon and everything was delicious We tried the steamed cauliflower. it was like ¼ of a whole cauliflower steamed in this white sauce. very very good for entrees, we had the hummus platter which came in 4 different flavor hummus. One was chickpeas, one was mushroom, and forgot what the other two were. You dipped the pita bread in the hummus. It was delicious We also tried the eggplant sandwich. Which i thought was just ok. But very hearty as well overall a good experience. Service could be a little bitter. And their sangria was a bit on the sweeter side.

Whether it’s for a date or a solo diner, Hummus Place is a reliable favorite in the East Village for those seeking a sit down experience for a light bite at a reasonable price. Enjoying hummus is a prerequisite for this cozy spot, and for veggie /vegan palates, this is an easy place to fulfill any Middle Eastern craving. If you have $ 10, take advantage of their 3 appetizers deal which includes falafel, roasted eggplant, stuffed grape leaves, lebane, tahini, or babaganush. My favorites are the roasted eggplant(which already comes with tahini), the 5 piece falafel, and babaganush. The $ 3.95 price tag for each of them individually is not much in the grand scheme of things, plus the quality is definitely there for each one of them. Anyone with a hummus craving will likely find delight in any of their hummus entrees which start at just $ 7.95. There are a solid amount of options which include fava beans, hard boiled eggs and tahini or even a hummus bowl topped with whole chick peas and olive oil. If you’re feeling spendy, shoot for the platter($ 11), which comes with everything(fava beans, chick peas, spices, hard boiled eggs, tahini, mushrooms, onions, etc.) including a good helping of pita and gluten free corn tortillas. One thing folks may not generally be aware of is they feature a weekend brunch. All items are $ 12.50, which come with a drink, salad, home fries, and hummus and a choice of organic eggs. The smoked salmon served with poached eggs in a hollandaise sauce is very tasty, but lately I’ve been opting for their bourekas, which is a puff pastry stuffed with poached eggs and cheese. Sound sinfully good? That’s because it is. While sometimes the service leaves a bit to be desired, there is no denying that Hummus Place has most of its parts in working order. In the end, it has plenty to offer in terms of a comfortable ambiance and reasonably priced Middle Eastern fare at quality that should appeal to all tastes.

I am not a vegetarian… at all. But this place is definitely making me reconsider! To begin with, the place itself is so cute! And its located in a super convenient location, right on St. Marks place. This allowed my friend and I to explore the neighborhood and get another drink after dinner. So, I had bought a groupon deal that included one appetizer, two entrees and two drinks. As an appetizer we had the za’atar Pita. It consist of tomatoes, black olives and other ingredients on top of a pita bread that made it incredible. I can’t even begin to describe how delicious it was! With every bite the pita slice just melted right into my mouth!!! As an entrée I tried the eggplant sandwich, also very yummy! But not as amazing as the Za’atar pita. As for my drink I had a sangria and my friend tried the frozen mojito.(Now the groupon said beer and wine only, but the waitress was really nice and didn’t mind at all if we tried the sangria and frozen mojito instead). Both of our drinks were made perfectly. They were sweet and had a very unique taste to them. Coming here was definitely, the best choice we have ever made!

3.5 Stars at most. Came here for lunch/brunch on a labor day Monday. Service was pretty good, but one you get your food, drinks, and bottle of water, you will never see the service again unless you waive them down. Ordered the mushroom omelet($ 12) on the brunch menu and the hummus platter($ 12.50) from the main menu. Omelet was pretty good, came stuffed with mushrooms, home fries, arugula salad, and a side of hummus(came with pita bread of choice; white or wheat). Hummus platter came with about 4 different types of hummus, pita chips and bread of choice. At first glance it looked really appealing and appetizing. But when you taste it, they all tasted the same. The toppings may be different, but tastes wise. it was all the SAME! I thought they would infuse or blend the ingredients into the hummus, but they really just put different toppings on the hummus. The hummus was pretty good, but for $ 12.50, I felt a little ripped off. You should order the hummus platter if you’re a big big lover of everything hummus and to share with your group. The portions was enough to feed a small party. The bread came really warm, having warm pita bread is always comforting.

Somehow when I’m in New York City, when I am finding myself eating healthy, I feel like I failed. If there isn’t pork belly in my eggs or bacon in my macaron, what’s the point of being in Manhattan then? But we had a major food bender the day before — breakfast at Locanda Verde, a quark ball at a German bakery, a Cuban lunch at Zafra Kitchen, a bacon macaron(or two) at Macaron Parlour, a slice of pizza(or two) at 2 Bros Pizza… need I go on with this confessional? Anyway, it was a new day. Clean slate. Time to consider something healthier to start the day. I had the Hummus Place bookmarked for about a year(photo: ), but we never had an excuse to get to the East Village until my friend Carlos moved there and showed us his favorite spots. So Jamie W. and I made our way back to his ‘hood the next day to try the place… even if it is steps away from those bacon macarons. We were seated pretty quickly even though it was starting to fill up quickly. We decided to share an appetizer, the $ 3.95 Falafel, five balls accompanied by a ramekin of green tahini sauce(photo: ). There was a nice crunch to the crust and the tahini brought out a freshness to the fried falafel mix. Jamie decided to be very good that morning and ordered the $ 8.50 Feta Salad, a plate of mixed greens, big chunks of beets, toasted croutons and shards of fresh feta(photo: ). It was quite refreshing, but I was looking for something a bit more substantive for breakfast. I ordered the $ 12.50 Mediterranean Eggs off the brunch menu(photo: ). The dish was comprised of a pair of poached eggs served with shakshuka, a Tunisian-originated sauce of tomatoes, chili peppers, onions and cumin. It was a nice, spicier alternative to hollandaise. Also on the plate was a side salad with chopped tomatoes, some home fries and some freshly made hummus(photo: ). While the potatoes were a bit dry and the hummus a tad too creamy for my taste, the poached eggs and especially the shakshuka brought the dish home. My brunch also came with freshly squeezed orange juice, mint tea(photo: ) and a warm housemade pita so big it took up a whole plate(photo: ). Delicious fare and considering what we were eating the day before, our arteries got some relief for a change. FOOD — 4 stars… superior Mediterranean food with hummus actually not the standout item AMBIANCE — 4 stars… nice and airy for the East Village SERVICE — 4 stars… quietly effective staff TOTAL — 4 stars… a worthwhile healthier option amid a sea of gluttony
