My office just moved to the area and Maoz was the first new place I decided to try. Not too long ago, I would never have thought that I would voluntarily eat a vegetarian lunch, but the fresh falafel and sweet potato fries — not to mention the awesome selection of DIY ‘toppings’ — totally won me over. The space is designed for efficiency: patrons enter and exit through separate doors, moving in an orderly fashion from cashier(where you order, pay, and receive your food) to toppings station, to condiments, and finally out the exit. Today, however, the fry guy had a lapse and it took about 5 extra minutes for me to receive my crispy, piping hot order — which caused a bit of a bottle neck situation at the exit(this place is about as big as my apartment). By the way, the extra wait, the awkward being-in-everyone’s-way for longer than I’d like — totally worth it. Some of the best sweet potato fries I’ve had. Went well with the garlic sauce as other have mentioned. Portions are huge and can be even huger if you’re heavy handed with toppings.

This place is dangerous if the heavens above gave them larger to go plates. I am in LOVE their do it yourself salad bar and their vegan tahini sauce. Falafels always crispy and good. Minus one star for the overall price and pricey deluxe add ons like avocado and portobello.

Excellent falafel and fries. Selection of toppings and sauces is great, but the cauliflower and broccoli salad was mushy. Wish there was seating! Wish there were more vegan-friendly fast, casual places like this.

Simple hole in the wall shop for a quick bite along the 7 train. I got a falafel sandwich which ended up being about $ 6. Unheard of for a meal in Manhattan that gets you stuffed… as long as you stuff your sandwich to brim. Love the unlimited side dish option. The side dishes are all healthy cold options. Onion + tomato, tabbouleh, chickpea salad, coleslaw, etc. Granted this location doesn’t have places to sit– only a small 2 person standing counter facing the street. But when you want a cheap, quick, healthy bite because you don’t want to cook, Maoz is a great option.

Great alternative for vegans and vegetarians. The people seemed friendly. I had the falafel sandwich and it was delicious and extremely filling. Their pudding was excellent. It is small place but good food. Definitively coming again!

Went here this past weekend for a quick dinner before seeing Phish at Madison Square Garden. Right when I walked in, I could tell Maoz was going to be a healthy and hearty dinner! I got the chicken shawarma hummus bowl, which is essentially some chicken shawarma served with a side of hummus. It is decent priced, as you get full access to the salad bar(only 1 time though) and can stock up on an array of ingredients on the side. I also got a fresh Arnold Palmer to drink(yum! I think they make these in-house?). The salad bar is full of so much variety– like broccoli, pickled carrots, pickled beets, chickpeas, etc. There’s also a bunch of different sauces to toss on top(Tahini, garlic sauce, etc.). Service was quick and the people working there were friendly. My meal and drink cost roughly $ 15… Not too bad for fresh food in NYC. A few tables were in the restaurant with stools to sit on.

In my time on this earth, I have done many things. Great things; painful things; things I have learned from. And in everything I have done, I have always looked for the positive outlook. The up-side. When I entered this eatery, I found myself reading a book by it’s cover. The small space and confined environment led me to believe a heinous falsity. But when I purchased my falafel, and I took my first bite, my world changed. I felt the smooth hummus, perfectly complimented by the slight spice of the falafel run through my mouth like a child’s toy train set when it perfectly fits on the tracks. I swallowed my first bite and I looked up to the man who served me, I mouthed the words to him, ‘thank you’. He responded, ‘That’ll be $ 4.95.” A small price to pay, for the most immaculate and delectable treat that has ever graced God’s good earth. I exited the now ever growing plateau of amazement, and walked up the street, consuming my sandwich more and more with each step. I hadn’t traveled but two blocks until I looked down and saw; my food had become exhausted. I felt a tear travel down my cheek. Not of depression. Not of loss. But of enlightenment. Thank you, Maoz Vegetarian, for showing me what good food really is. –Benicio Del Taco

This is the best falafel sandwich I have ever had. The only downside is that there is no seating to eat this delicious/massive sandwich.

If there was a Maoz Vegetarian near my office I would eat there everyday. Unfortunately I work no where near midtown Manhattan but if you are in the Times Square area and looking for a quick super healthy meal run, or walk, to Maoz Vegetarian. To my fellow DC’ers it’s a similar concept as Amsterdam Falafel. You pick your base(pita, salad, or rice with or without falafel) and choose a premium topping for an extra $ 1 – 2(egg, hummus, avocado, etc.) pay then head to the toppings/fillings bar and load it up. Everything is super fresh. Tomato cucumber salad, red cabbage, tabbouleh, carrots, broccoli, and so much more. Then top it off with a variety of delicious sauces(garlic cream, yogurt dill, etc.). There’s no seating indoors, well maybe a small ledge you can stand over, but it’s a small narrow place which is convenient for a quick in and out not to sit and dine. However, there are a row of benches right outside on the sidewalk where we sat and people watched while we devoured our delicious meal. Really hope this place makes its way to DC.

Choose between a salad or a sandwich.(Add ons: premium topping, side, drink) The sweet potato fries are pretty delicious. Once you choose what you want, you get to fill your pita bread or salad with whatever toppings you want, like a salad bar. And it doesn’t matter how much you throw in there either. Its all vegetarian and absolutely delicious. Definitely get at least two white garlic sauce to go, cuz one is just not enough. No seating inside, they do have a bench outside and a small counter inside if you want to enjoy your food there. Multiple locations throughout the city and a much healthier choice than other fast food places.

Its like subway for vegetarian middle eastern food. I liked it, and the sides they have were delicious Putting on cauliflower and the garlic sauce made the fallafel sandwich so good. Fresh, courteous staff, no complaints here. no line either! Only a small place to sit down but in NYC i figure everyone is used to eating and standing up.

The do-it-yourself salad bar is what makes Maoz worth it. It includes everything from roasted cauliflower and broccoli to chickpeas. I got a falafel bowl with kale and then loaded up on toppings. My favorites are the beets and coleslaw. The falafel itself is fine, not Taim but tasty enough. Unfortunately, they don’t allow refills on toppings, but my lunch meal still left me full for the rest of the day.

Excellent vegetarian food near time square. The place is small clean and very cost effective. My meal was only $ 11 for food + drink+ side. There is a standard place to eat or u can eat at a bench outside. The place was packed. If you are in a budget and live vegetarian food… This is a good place to eat.

NYC has so many freakin options for late night food on a Friday night. I wanted vegetarian and falafel always seems to do it for me. Kinda like a carnivore craving a good burger but I digress. We arrived 10 minutes before closing at 2 am. I ordered the falafel sandwich and topped it with eggplant, cabbage/slaw, pickles, cauliflower and vegan tahini sauce. Man, it was so delicious. My only complaint is that I was taking my food to go and when I asked for a container to store my food I was told they are only available for salads. Overall, the food was on point. Imma fan.

For about $ 8 I got a half sandwich with eggplant, avocado, falafel and toppings of my choice. Though I wasn’t expecting it, the eggplant is delicious along with the falafel. So nice that I can get a cheap quick vegetarian meal. My only complaint is that I wish the sandwich pocket was bigger so I could have filled it with more toppings and sauces! Delightfully delicious. I’ll be back.

This is place is gluten-free friendly and awesome. My friend needs to be on a strict gluten-free diet and after reviewing their menu online we decided to try this place. We were surprised by this place and how helpful their employees are, before my friend gets anything from the salad bar, she always asks the employee«Is this gluten-free?» and they would let her know yes or no, this is really helpful for my friend for choosing what to eat. For me, I love the options they have at the salad bar: red cabbage, cole slaw and beet salad are my favorite, and I got a lot of them because it’s self-serve :P

Really solid Mediterranean joint in Midtown! Especially filling and healthy for vegetarians and vegans alike. The setup is kind of like Chipotle for Mediterranean food — you choose a pita wrap, rice bowl, or salad, select your type of protein(falafel, chicken shawarma, beef shawarma, etc.), and then proceed to add your own toppings and sauces from the salad bar. My favorite combo is the falafel rice bowl with hummus — they’re very generous on the portion sizes, and the falafels are cooked to perfection! I preferred the falafel to the chicken shawarma rice bowl, which I also tried. The pita sandwiches are decent, although with certain sauces and toppings can become soggy. Given that Midtown is mainly occupied by a lot of incredibly mediocre restaurants aimed at tourists, Maoz is probably the best one of the lot.

Love this place. Falafels are giantic.(So I feel like I am being healthier since more interior falafel means less area to suck up oil) Whole wheat pita is delicious. And the topping selection is awesome. I love that I can pick what I want and control the portion of each. =)
