The clam chowder was definitely the high light of our meal, but we were also just in the mood for it… We got the Captain’s Bowl and it was BIG. The toast it came with was super tasty too(nice and butter soaked). The fish and chips we had(which were cod) were a bit disappointing. The batter just seemed off(grainy, thin, not very flavorful) and some of the cuts of fish were thin and had gray-ish streaks(is that normal?). The fries were delicious. The cole slaw was okay– not too much mayo and had a sweet taste to it. I’d go back for the clam chowder, fries and maybe try a crab melt or something(that was the other thing I wanted). The service was good, she was very friendly.

Paul and I had a dinner at Captain’s Choice that much resembled a roller coaster ride. We arrived early and had no trouble being seated. We chose our own booth, which was quite comfortable. Our server was friendly enough, although she was not particularly attentive. Not asking us how our food was until the end of our meal was an oops. I ordered a cup of clam chowder, which was perfectly creamy. With a bit more seasoning, it would have been outstanding. I also order the«Just Fish» with deep fried halibut. Big mistake! The batter was flavorless. The coleslaw that accompanied it was bland. The garlic toast was good. Paul ordered the Half and Half. He went with the grilled snapper with lemon pepper seasoning, which was quite good, and deep fried cod, which was surprisingly better than my halibut. The fries were good when dipped in the cocktail sauce. I would steer clear of the iced tea, which just tastes odd.

Dec 122015 — My husband stopped there to treat himself to a rib eye steak today. He said the steak was tough. He will not ever go back there again….

GETTHEFISHTACOS!!! These are the best i have had since Pilar’s in Todos Santos BC Sur… If you want fish in your fish tacos this be the place. The décor is up to the Coos’s County Standard(CCS) from this point forward.

Not the fanciest looking place! But it was getting late on a Saturday eve and we were tired of Unilocaling it and wanted seafood that wasn’t all battered! This place came through! I’m glad we stumbled on this place because when we asked for blackened halibut with Parmesan they made it just right! My only complaint is that the pieces of halibut were really small. I also got the captains platter, with oysters, clams, and cod. I want to say these were some of the biggest clams strips I have had and very tasty! It’s nice to take a bite and it’s not dried up. The iced tea was also really good. I was afraid it might taste like the nasty powdered stuff. My meal also came with a quartered acorn squash with butter and brown sugar. One of my favorites. There was also a baked potato but I was not able to eat it because there was so much food.

I am lucky to have a friend that is local and brought us here. It’s a very relaxed place. They have many options for seafood and land food options. I had a cup of clam chowder then the crab cakes with rice pilaf. The chowder was creamy and delicious. The crab cakes were some of the best I’ve ever had and they went perfect with the rice pilaf. Others in my party had the deep fried snapper and fries and said it was the freshest tasting fish she’s had. Another had a burger and enjoyed it as well.

The food was PERFECT. The fish is all lightly breaded and not greasy or overcooked. The bowl of chowder was creamy and tasty. This is a family friendly restaurant. Been up and down the Oregon coast, this place is much better than Mo’s or any other we’ve been to. The prices we good along with the portion sizes!

Had the clam chowder and fish sandwich. Clam chowder was good. I ordered a grilled cod and ended up getting a fried cod. I was hungry and on the go, so settled for the fried. It was good as well. Minus a star for getting my order wrong. Service was good.

Arrived on a Friday evening, so we of course had a wait for a table, but it was worth it. The food was great and, for as busy as they were, the service was quick. We ordered the fish and chips, scallops and the chicken breast dinner. Good size portions. Would definitely eat here again.

Too much batter and fat, shame for the fresh fish. If only it was less about the fat and more about the fish. Great service and in a nice place. After 45 miles of cycling we still didn’t find it satisfying.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! It was a super busy weekend lunch hour when we arrived, but we were seated in no time. The staff was prompt and attentive and very pleasant. The food was even better. I had the fish and chips and a cup of chowder. It was all excellent and the portions were more than generous for the price. We will definitely be back next time we’re in town!

As part of our trip North on the Pacific Coast Highway, we stopped in at the suggestion of a mechanical shop a few towns over(long story). They suggested that we make the drive to North Bend and we were not disappointed. Not much of a seafood person as I grew up in western Canada. That said I have developed a taste for sushi and at the encouragement of my GF I have been trying more and more seafood, even live squid(another long story). The day was a little overcast with a light sprinkle of rain, so this was a good choice for a stop and a break from the motorcycles. My GF was on a chowder quest of her own and she was not disappointed here. The food was good and the service was helpful. I suppose their proximity to the fresh fish market would be a good reason why the food was pretty good. For the fussy fish eaters, this is a good place to try true fresh fish and learn to enjoy it.

The halibut breaded panko style is pretty darn tasty. I had the halibut and chowder. There were four saltine cracker size thick halibut pieces. The halibut was done just right with a nice buttery flavor and was very fresh. The chowder was a generous helping with lots of potato and clam chunks. The clams were not gritty and they were very fresh tasting like the halibut. We came in at the tail end of the Sunday lunch crowd. Nearly every table was filled. We got our drinks quickly and our order was taken quickly. Our food took a while but the wait was not out of line for the number of customers or the quality of food. At $ 17.99, I thought the price was a little high for the quantity of food but the quality was great so the price certainly wouldn’t prevent me from coming back.

Fried oyster samdwich is the best in town. however other items on the menu is on the spendy side for the amount of food you get. The service isn’t great. The place is in need of a remodel. The cook was in the back shoving pickles in her mouth with bare hands then continuing to cook. I mentioned my concern to the lady at the counter and she had no response. I won’t be going back.

My husband and I got I think it was a 12 piece fish each and we had it made into half snapper and half cod, the fish was amazing fried to perfection, we also got a large bowl of Oyster Stew… and that was their downfall because it was no Stew… more like a buttery broth with oysters, it had more butter instead of milk or cream and it had no celery, potatoes, or onions… whoever thinks what they made was a stew needs to come to our house and we will make you Oyster Stew because they charge a lot for over buttered broth with oysters, my husband and I were not impressed one bit with it. They lose stars for calling it a stew… when it’s not and they are lying to the customer.

Service was mediocre, had to get her attention twice and was only 4 – 5 other tables at the time. Someone else had mentioned service was ok but they seemed distracted and that’s the perfect description of it. Now food on the other hand is very bland! Had fried snapper and there was absolutely no flavor to it really at all. Tartar sauce taste like mayo and coleslaw was soaked in dressing. Slaw was also too mushy, no real cabbage texture to it, probably from sitting in so much juice. Mac and cheese and garlic toast were cold and again very very bland! Btw, the Mac is Kraft Mac out of a box!!! Mac and cheese is simple and darn near cost less to make from scratch, as is a decent coleslaw! That is all. I’ll save my money for the seafood market on the bay &101 that also serves up some amazing fish and chips!
