Dazz Thai… what a disappointment! I love Thai food and have been scoping out good Thai joints near my work in downtown Oakland. I went to Dazz with a friend of mine for lunch one day, and I am never ever going back. I ordered one of their noodle soups and my friend ordered pad thai, her favorite. My noodle soup was so bland, I was dumping all the types of chili they put out on table into my soup just to get a little flavor. My friend’s pad thai was also a disappointment. She didn’t finish it. Then when we paid, the man didn’t give us any change; he simply assumed we would tip them that much even though it was over 20%.

We should have gone to Take-It-Easy, but nooooo, decided to try a new place instead. We stood waiting to be seated for almost 5 minutes while the host and his co-host ignored us as they stood behind the counter. It was just us, nobody else was waiting to be seated. Our order wasn’t taken until 20 minutes later and the place was not packed. Waited another 35 – 40 minutes for our lunch. Everytime we asked, it was always ‘less than 5 minutes’, uh huh. I wanted to walk out, but instead we decided to get it to go. They were quick with the check, of course. I’m giving them 2 stars, because the food was decent and the thai ice tea was tasty. I think we deserved a refill, but probably had to wait 15 minutes for it. We will never come here unless we have the luxury of a 2 hour lunch.

We ordered food for a large group meeting(20+ people). The food was delivered 60+ minutes late, and some people complained it was cold. Quality-wise, it was fine, but not outstanding. I know doing mass orders of Thai food is difficult(vs. pizza, Chinese, etc.), but we were misled about the timing of the delivery.

So in my opinion I think Thai Patio(Los Angeles(within Hollywood), Ca.) should trade names with this spot. Because there wasn’t any hint of Jazz(or is it Dazz, after staring at the business card repeatedly). I walked by since I wanted to see what local joints within the Oakland premises opened up and suddenly a small paper signed coerced me into coming here with the phrase«With lunch order, Free Soup and Thai Ice Tea.» That right there, was a $ 5.00 value in itself so I’m definitely going in. Walking inside, it was small and reminded me of Zinc Café’s venue(Corona Del Mar, Ca.) but a bit bigger and doesn’t just accommodate to vegans and such. Coming inside, a friendly waitress seated me down and promptly provided my free thai ice tea and soup as advertised. I was hoping they would add boba, but beggars can’t be choosers. The soup tasted something similar to what I’ve tried in Filipino Cuisine(a bit like Sinigang without the Fish). Hearty, but a bit bland even with the sour after taste. As for the main dish, considering it was a new place and I lacked the courage to order anything other than Pad Thai(man I need to get to know more Thai folks). The dish itself was alright, there was an abundance of red onion and bean sprouts which I felt wasn’t needed in the dish. Other than offering decent prices, the lack of ambiance is what got me feeling a bit unsatisfied. On top of that, a stern old man started yelling up a ruckus in the back kitchen which made myself and the rest of the customers a bit uneasy and left a bit earlier than expected. The cost, was about $ 9.00 with tax and tip. Willing to go back? Maybe if I feel adventurous to try different dishes to compare to other Thai spots I’ve visited, otherwise the spatula light ornaments at an original touch.

I normally like to go where the action is and when it comes to Thai food in downtown/uptown Oakland, that means Take-It-Easy Thai. However, I think Dazz Thai is much better. First of all, you don’t need to watch like a hawk to get a seat, you get seated right away. #2 The pad thai was tradition pad thai will tons of flavor. The portion was generous. Total for the meal, after tax, tip and $ 1 for the hot tea…$ 11.

My coworkers and I just did our weekly lunch there, and we were quite impressed. Their yellow curry was very good, and everybody else left very full and happy. Their wait staff is very courteous, and the man at the door, who might even be the owner, was very enthusiastic. Six hungry designers ate there for $ 60, that’s pretty good. The interior is also much nicer than I expected.

This is a much needed addition to the Downtown Oakland lunch scene. Food is very tasty and everything tastes fresh. Curries are nicely spiced and decadently creamy. Pad Ke Mao is perfect! Nice décor — homey, hard wood floors, subtle green wains coating and white walls adorned with old pictures of Thailand and modern light fixtures. Really hope they do well and eventually open for dinner!

I think this one of the best Thai restaurants in downtown Oakland… my friend and i ordered the Yellow Curry with Chicken and Eggplant with Beef. Fortunately, they got our eggplant dish wrong and gave us someone else’s order of eggplant with fried fish with a sweet, spicy Thai sauce… we liked it better until the waiter noticed he gave us the wrong dish! And yes, he picked it up and probably went back to the kitchen to re-form the rice we touched… Now we know what to get for NEXT time! Both dishes had a great flavor and extremely fresh… we devoured both dishes. The only thing they could improve on the curry chicken dish would be to add more chicken and potatoes… but overall, very tasty dishes!

The Customer is is not always right at Dazz Thai! Lindsay L never had to walk out of a restaurant before, well my friend Sam has never thought of not paying for her food before either, until this past Friday. We go in about noon, thinking about eating in. Sam has been raving about the restaurant all week, talking about how wonderful the Pad Thai was. I was anticipating a good meal. Instead we got horrible service which made the good food irrelevant. We waited for about 15 min in line for a table. However, it was really busy so we decided to order our food and come back for a pick up. The guy said it would be a 40 min. wait and he would call us. We said okay. We ordered our food and all of us except Sam paid for our food. We go back to work. 40 minutes, no call. 1 hour no call. 1 hour 10 minutes we decide that it’s probably ready, so we go to pick up our food. It’s not ready. We figure it will be ready soon, and it’s not crowded so we decide to sit down and eat. Sit at a table with no silverware. but that’s okay. We are still patient. We figure our food will be ready in 10 minutes. Ten minutes, nothing. 15 minutes, two forks along with their own napkins appear. Another 10 minutes — waiter offers us sodas. We get 8 ounce glasses not filled to the top. 15 minutes later, one of our friends gets her chicken — which she says looks like Chitlin’s so she doesn’t eat it. I get my Kang Gari(Yellow Curry) — which tasted really good! I had to ask for silverware to eat it, though. 10 minutes after that. Sam gets her Pad Thai. It’s a huge plate, but Sam is p! ssed! She says she doesn’t know if she wants to pay for her food, because, here it is 2 hours after we order and not all of us have our food, yet. The waiter claims that he told us that he would call us when it was ready and that he was surprised that we came before he called us. We argue that he said 40 minutes, not 2 hours. He says they are sorry for the wait, but he made her a huge plate– the largest they have ever made! He argues with us as if WE were the ones at fault. The guy says that he has to talk to his manager. He goes to talk about the manager. We hear giggling in the back. Sam is rolling her eyes and huffing and puffing. We share our food with friends who haven’t gotten their order yet. One friend ordered a Yum salad– sliced grilled chicken with lime over a bed of lettuce. When if finally came(last!) it looked like chicken over cole-slaw. The waiter comes back, he says that they can’t give our money back, but we can order an appetiser. We order Calamari– to go. Which was good becasue they didn’t finish it until we were done eating. Sam still paid for her food, but I highly doubt she is going back. You shouldn’t either.

yay they’re a-ok. I’m glad I didn’t have to walk out. But I haven’t been back. You’d think that restaurants would try a little harder to be competition. The food seemed really fresh though, so that’s a yay. Go there. Get a calendar. Get some lunch. Shake hands with spongebobsquare pants. Eat a churro. Rule the world.

This is so much better than DaVan’s and Take it Easy, SOMUCHBETTER. Even though they don’t have the Pad Kra Pow, they can make it for you if you ask. This isn’t the regular Americanized Asian cusine that you get around downtown Oakland, it is very refreshing to know now I have a Thai place that is close to work, not to mention THEYDELIVER!!! The plates cost around $ 10 and the portions are just right if not a little more. Cute little joint and for its grand opening they were giving out Thai Ice Tea, though I have had better this is a place I will go back to should I want Thai food in a jiff.

I’ve never had to walk out of a restaurant until I came here yesterday. I was in there for about 15 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge my existence so that I could get a table. I must be a ghost because I stood directly in front of the counter where the host/cashier was and not once did he even glance up at me. In the meantime, he sat another party that arrived AFTER me, gave a woman menus for her table after she complained of sitting at the table for 20 minutes with no service, and tried to reassure two other ladies that their take out order was going to come at any moment, even after they’d been waiting 45 minutes for it. There’s no way their food is worth this BS.

this place just opened at 10:30. this place has many tiny overhanging lights and a long stovepipe near the ceiling. this place should look cool in the evening(like that thai restaurant on grand ave). there are many snapshot pics of thai life, the thai king, and thai scenary on all the walls. entrees: spicy seafood soup(9.95) penang neur(7.95) fried veggie egg roll(6.95) thai iced tea(2.50-comped) fried bananae(?-comped) so so: fried veggie fried rolls. very crispy but kind of hollow inside. more filling would evoke a crunchy filling. the dipping sauce is very sweet. pros –iced thai tea comped for all customers today, i believe. pretty good but very sweet.(condensed milk?) –spicy seafood soup. very tasty soup with heavy lemongrass flavoring and ginger sidenotes. liberally sprinkled with mussls, scallops, cuttlefish, shrimp and veggies which adds to the rich broth. recommended! tartness comes from the lemongrass –penang neur(beef stew/red curry) w/steamed rice. very creamy and sweet tasty red curry with tenderized beef which didn’t look like beef stew. –the food here taste authentic. they use palm sugar in the curries which made it tastes so sweet. btw, palm sugar isn’t cheap. –fried banane: pretty tasty and sweet tasting. cons –the bugs are being worked out, servicewise. the food is pretty good to great. –i drank a lot of water cuz the food was so sweet, didn’t notice the presence of msg, though i think there is some. when i was leaving, they give me a thai calendar with the word«thai recipes» on it. i asked them: «is this(thai recipes) so i can cook my own(thai food)?» i didn’t get an answer. i think the(implied) answer was«(no)».
