Was here with some friends for dinner a few weeks ago. We dined family style, splitting some of the tom kha soup for which they are famous(and rightfully so, it was quite good if not amazing) and then a series of entrees. The meat options were sort of bland but they cooked the veggies nicely so can’t complain about that. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Overall a good Thai option in Oakland

Mixed bag this time. Good: — BBQ pork was good as always. This is DH’s favorite dish. It is thin slices brushed with fish sauce, grilled, and served with a sweet chile dip. — Green papaya salad was perfect: spicy, refreshing, delightful. — Mixed appetizer platter was good; we especially love their fishcake here. But more bad than good, on dishes we’ve liked many times before: — Smoked chili eggplant and tofu. Sauce was a mediocre sweet and sour with only a modest tang of smoke. There was hardly any heat at all, just sugar and more sugar. Ugh. — Tom Kha soup was tasty but not as complex in flavor. — Stuffed chicken wings were grossly overfried, almost powdery they were so dry. Even the Thai iced tea didn’t taste the same. There was an edge of tannic bitterness that suggested overbrewing, and it was more sweet than creamy. Many places make it this way, but Siam Bay’s version has always been exemplary — until now. Whether this is because the owner is away, or they have a new cook, is unknown. We’ll return in a few months and see what happens. We have to say this was probably the worst food we’ve ever gotten from Siam Bay in 18 years.

This is my go-to neighborhood Thai place. Whenever I feel a little under the weather or extra irritated from my commute on Bart, I treat myself to the clear soup and pad see ew from Siam Bay and feel instantly better about life. The soup is a clear broth and tastes so homey and good. You can get it completely vegetarian or get just chicken or just ground pork or the combo! It is not spicy at all and the portions are huge. Definitely can feed two. The pad see ew is not too sweet or salty like most places. They also include lots of fresh broccoli and that totally elevates the dish. The owners/staff are also really sweet and friendly(shout out to the Gramps out front!). When I stopped by today, they kindly reminded me that they’re closed tomorrow because of the holiday. This place is seriously underrated and a neighborhood gem!

Pad Thai: Simple of all the thai dishes, It was good. Not the best ive had but it was still good. Service: Service was amazing, not going to lie my party of people were a lot, and we kept flip flopping on how many people were coming, we def weren’t the best customers, BUT they were quite accommodating for us. And especially cuz it was close to closing time as well.

They deserve this 5 stars… for customer service, food, location, friendly staff, and their old world interior décor. Cheers to Siam Bay!!! I have enjoyed this place many times through the years and they have never failed me… food, service, or experience wise. The employees here have excellent people skills and great customer service that includes smiling :) Ive had several dishes here including the stuffed fried chicken, and BBQ chicken which are pretty good… however my favorite two dishes here over the years are the crab fried rice which is the best I’ve had anywhere so far, and the Honey BBQ pork dish… both extra good, filling but still light eating at the same time. They actually make all their food and alot of their sauces to order which can take awhile sometimes(not too long, but its never bad to call ahead), and while they don’t get crowded they can get full at times. The interior has an clean old world look to it as you see in my photos with Thai art, wood carvings and sculptures making it feel like a quick escape from Oakland. Been going, will keep going and encourage you to check them out as well… 5 cheers!

Best Thai food in Oakland! I’ve been coming to Siam Bay for over 15 years and their food and service is consistently excellent. I would recommend specific menu items but everything is delicious; it really just depends on what you feel like eating.

This restaurant is top notch. I had the best green curry of my life here today and I can’t imagine a better way to start off the week. The food is simply magical. It transports you to a place and feeling of nostalgia. simply incredible. I ordered with chicken and a 6 or 7 of ten(he said«ok medium»). With just the right amount of spice and perfectly sprinkled with basil a top it was a flavor I will not soon forget. Words do not do it justice and my only regret is not snapping a photo before diving into this transcendental experience.

Panang curry was MUCH better than the green. I would recommend this place after giving it a second chance.

I am all for the ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT-THAIFOOD-BUFFET.Yeah, that’s right. All you can eat for 13 dollars including tax and tip. I love their soup dessert and their main courses. It’s healthy and fresh.

I highly recommend the curries here. Absolutely delicious! I like the curries here because they’re thick and grainy instead of runny and watery like a lot of other Thai restaurants. Plus, I’ve always received exemplary service from everyone that I’ve been served by here. The old couple are the sweetest people I’ve met, I think they’re the owners? Whenever I have a hankerin’ for some Thai curry, this is my go-to spot.

I randomly found this place when I ordered for delivery on eat24. Glad I found it because they have good portions, fair prices, and good quality overall. The Siam Bay Combo is a little bit of everything if you can’t decide on just one appetizer. I liked that there were four dipping sauces and each were unique and flavorful. I liked their Pad Thai too, plenty of green onions and not too greasy.

Hmmm. I’ve been coming here on-and-off for the past 10 years and surprised i didn’t write a review. Review is for the lunch buffet which is always a palate/tummy pleaser! The food is always fresh with various options of curry chicken, tom yum soup, tofu, eggplant, green beans, pad thai, and some fried items… but my all time favorite is the banana/coconut tapioca pudding. Very reasonable all-you can eat buffet for about $ 13(incl tax, tip). Ambiance is great with Thai décor and owners are very friendly and welcoming! I try to limit my outings with the lunch crew on Fridays because its easy to overindulge because its that good!

I came here to eat with a couple of my friends. He restaurant we wanted to eat at was jammed packed, so we decided to go here based on their good reviews. When we came in, it was practically empty. It was about 1, and many of the other restaurants were full. The place was dimly lit for ambiance, but it should really be brighter for lunch. The dim lighting made it awkard to talk, overall the resturant was a bit quiet. The staff was not really useful. We asked what the rolls were and they simply gave us a vague explanation. Upon asking what exactly is inside the rolls, another vague explanation was given. We asked more questions about other dishes, but the answers did not fufill our needs. In the end, we got yellow curry, sa-te, the stuffed chicken, and pad-thai. The yellow curry really lacked flavor. There was almost no flavor to it. The sa-te was really small. Four little sticks for 10 dollars is a big rip off. I love sa-te and it met my expectations, but I’ve had better. The only thing we really liked was the stuffed chicken. That plate went out the quickest. The pad-thai wasn’t that good. It was too salty and overseasoned. Overall, I would not go again and would not recommend this place again.

Siam Bay is one of my favorite Thai spots in the East Bay. And that is 90% due to their Mango Sticky Rice dish. Seriously for $ 6, you get the hugest portion of the most succulent, sweet and juicy mango you’ve ever had, coupled with warm sticky rice, it is absolute heaven. Siam Bay itself is a totally unassuming little shop run by a Thai couple, both of whom are super super lovely and more than happy to customize any order you might have. I ordered the Khao Prad and Green Curry, extra spicy and it was an absolute revelation. The Khao Prad was sooo fragrant and had a deliciously addictive kick to it. I couldn’t stop eating the rice even though I was about to explode. The Green Curry was really good. If you’re a fan of coconut, you’ll love the smooth taste of the curry. The eggplants and vegetables also totally complement this dish. The lady at the store added in some freshly cut red chillis into the curry on my request, and it made the dish EVENBETTER. Seriously, I would definitely come back. Just a tip, if you are a lover of authentic Thai food, skip the lunch buffet. Yes, it is definitely value for money, but the items laid out have all been prepared for the«American» palette — so extra sweet, and extra mild. Just order from their regular menu, and you will not regret it!

A total unassuming Thai spot in Old Oakland. Is it the best Thai food you’ve ever had? No, but it’s got some affordable prices, good food and that local mom and pop feel you know and love. Reading the Unilocal reviews, I kind of hate that they serve a lunch buffet. It makes me think my dinner food won’t be fresh, but ah well. A few pro’s: The curry was really good. We opted for yellow and it had a nice spice, but not overwhelming. The chicken was ok and there were plentiful with the potatoes. The brown rice was really good. Ask for hot sauce. They bring out a trio, one with fresh hot peppers. It’s scrumptiously hot. The older man working, maybe the owner, is so cute. Huggable. A few con’s: The fresh vegetable dish was bland. A little hot sauce was needed. The sauteed beef dish lacked the wow factor I’ve gotten at phnom penh. It’s a hard life, being an Asian restaurant in this area where there is so much competition. Siam Bay does a pretty good job of being a contender. Do I still prefer phnom penh? Yes. Although, I haven’t had their curry, so there’s that. Overall, I’d come back if in the ‘hood.

Their lunch buffet is such a good deal. It’s basically the same price as getting an entrée. The buffet is limited to the common items you can get at any Thai restaurant like pad thai and chicken curry, but it’s still a good selection of stuff and you can easily make a very balanced and filling meal out of it. If you were planning on getting an entrée with appetizers and desserts anyway, you might as well just go for the buffet. The décor is very nice, and they have a funny bathroom sign hanging on their wall. The staff are really nice too; very welcoming, helpful, and accommodating. It’s definitely a good place to get lunch near downtown Oakland with great value.

Much better Thai than in Alameda. Good thing they deliver to the island. Good eats: –stuffed whole trout, this is really good, stuffed with all kinds of thai herbs including lemongrass, MUST order –papaya salad, perfect seasoning, petite portion –chu-chee curry salmon, generous filet and loved all the veggies on the side Ok: –pra-ram duck, not my favorite, clunky sauce, I probably just chose wrong Improvements: –delivery salads should ALWAYS have dressing on the side, the papaya salad was dressed –veggie fried rice was just heaps of rice, thai basil, onions and fried tofu, that’s it, for $ 10, not worth it Next time I would specify low salt on EVERYTHING, I got lazy with typing and should have made the effort. Minimum $ 15. Delivery steep at $ 8.50. Total bill including tip: $ 90
