Slum landlords. I don’t know Stan… and although I don’t use World of Homes as my HOA… I can agree completely with his review. They are rude!
I thought I found an amazing deal for a place to rent. Upon moving in, I noticed they did absolutely nothing to place… besides painting the walls (still had the fresh paint smell, this worried me that they were hiding something like mold).
Here are a few things they did wrong!
1. No locks on windows.
2. Tile floors were dirty… I mean, reaALLLYYYyy dirty. I did not want to walk barefoot.
3. Stove was left dirty.
4. Bathroom sink/​tub/​kitchen sink… etc were all disgusting. I found used women razors shoved/​hidden in the window when I opened it.
5. Several electrical outlets were old/​electrical cables were too loose when plugged in.
6. The air filter was not the right size.
7. The water heater pump was set to warm/​cold only (had access to pump and turned it back up to a normal setting)
9. One of the bedroms rooms smelled heavily of smoke (took a long time to get rid of the smell, you can still smell a faint of smoke in the room after a yr+).
10. No seal around front or utility room entrance.
11. Termites (was greeted by them during swarming season).
12. Exposed hole in the roof /​damaged roof /​visible rotting wood in car port… etc.
I can go on and on.
Anyway, BECAUSE of how filthy the place was… they were actually nice enough to credit me two weeks of rent. Wait, did I just say something positive about these guys? Woa.
They sent one of their cleaners to cleanup the place. She did an ok job with cleaning the bathroom/​kitchen and other areas… but she didn’t have adequate tools to cleanup the floor. It also took her two trips… I eventually got them to hire a professional floor cleaner to cleanup the tiles. All that downtime annoyed me. Especially since I just had broken up with my ex and was still staying at her place until I could move out. They also replaced the electrical outlets and did a few other things.
What they didn’t do… provide me with the locks on ALL windows (well, except for the bathroom window… that was the only one with a working lock). Went to Home Depot to buy cheap window locks. They did not add insulation around my front and utility entrance door. When they sent handy men to power wash the carport and the back of the place, water gushed thru the front door… because there is no sealant around it. They did not replace damaged screens at each window. They refused to take care of termite problem.
Also…I found out from the neighbors that they have been experiencing a bad mold problem for several years. All they do is paint over the walls and nothing else. One of my neighbors had it with them and moved out before their lease ended. I know they are not going to fix the problem and will just rent out the place to an unsuspecting person.
Because of the poor insulation of the home and how uncomfortable I feel at night when the humidity rises… I bought a dehumidifier. It works amazing. It has actually picked up about 9 gallons of water overnight. I haven’t seen any visible mold, but often wonder if it’s still in the house and if it’s affecting my health in any way. If they did the right thing by installing an exhaust fan in the bathrooms, it would most likely help take care of the mold situation that my neighbors have been experiencing. Do they do that? NO… it makes more sense for them to just send someone over and repaint the walls. How is this legal? It baffles me.
It also amazes me that a realtor company could care less about their property and doing the right thing for their customers… like exterminating termites. I understand that this is Florida and that 80% of the property here has termites in it… but because I see swarmers, I wonder how much damage has been done inside the place. They rather see their property crumble I guess.
I can ensure all of you that Stan and I are not the only two people who have had bad experiences with them.
If you see a Craigslist ad for one of their properties, please do yourself a favor and move on. If you have to work with them thru HOA, I wish you luck. You will regret working with them.
