Excellent. I moved out of state so I had not been here in years. Food and service were so good. This place blew miami restaurants our of the water!

Amazing. Loved their food AND their service. I will definitely be coming back here very soon. We came in late and we were the only ones here and that took really good care of us.

Hakari is a favorite of my whole family, from grandparents to kids. Easily 4.5 stars. I might even bump it up to 5 if they improved the smell when you first walk in(just a spritz of Lysol now and then is all I’m asking) & gave the whole place a nice deep cleaning. The service is excellent and so is the food. We sat once in the regular dining room and had the most amazing pumpkin dish. Next time we came, we got the full-on steakhouse show, and it was a blast. Our chef was so nice and funny and engaging, and the food he prepared was fresh and delicious. Especially the teriyaki chicken– probably the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly seasoned and just the right amount of crispiness on the edges. Our water glasses were never empty, something that I really appreciate. I ordered a side of edamame, which was perfectly cooked and salted, and the appetizer called ‘sushi beginner’- so delicious. Our bill, generous tip included, was about $ 60 for 4 people, including one glass of plum wine. Good deal! You’d never guess this place was there– next to an Indian market and just down from a TJMaxx, but it’s definitely worth tracking down.

Bobbie Ate at Shogun tonight with eight friends. Since it was a Tuesday, the restaurant was not busy so the noise level was good. It was a fun experience. The miso soup was delicious and everyone was happy with their meals. I had the filet and it was excellent. Veggies were perfect. Great service. Will definitely return.

This is the second time I have visited this location, both times were from a groupon purchase. The first time I went the service was great and the food great. This time, not so good on food part. I ordered there Steak/Chicken/Shrimp combo and i’m pretty sure the steak was old. I like medium rare and my steak wasn’t pink, it was that dark ugly brown color and my steak was undercooked(medium rare and rare are two different things). The cook went as fast as possible to maybe go back into the kitchen to hangout. There were only the two of us at the table and only one other table that was full that had just been seated. I really don’t think I would buy a groupon here again or come here to just have a hibachi, this place is actually on the bottom or hibachi’s in the area for me.

At this price point they are minus 1 star for poor décor & lack luster meal accompaniments. Expect scuffed up exposed concrete floors, handwritten signs leading to the bathrooms, and plates that have the design worn off them from frequent use. The soup that comes with your meal will be a little bowl of hot water with a slide of mushroom floating in it. The salad is a tiny little bowl of iceberg lettuce with a teaspoon full of ginger dressing. The food & the show that goes into preparing it are a very solid 4 stars! Our chef was hilarious! My husbands well done steak was absolutely perfect. The chef jokingly called it «beef jerky» when he slid it onto his plate. He pulled off well cooked without becoming tough like shoe leather. Husband also thought the fried rice was the best he’s ever had. My medium rare steak was very tender and flavorful and the scallops were a great addition too. We liked the crab rangoon(4 piece platter) better than the tempura which was very large pieces of vegetable, and just a few of them. The obligatory open mouthed shrimp toss was pretty fun. We had brought another couple with us and they really felt we took them out for a special night, in the end good food and good company are what matter most! We’ll be back.

Our hibachi chef was very nice and entertained the kids at the table. The servers forgot to give us our soup and salad till after we started getting our dinner. Overall I would say that everything was OK, price, food, cleanliness, service maybe slightly lower. I don’t think we’ll go back, as there are too many like style restaurants that are better.

The chef we had didn’t seem to be a trained Japanese chef… he was not great at his coordination and did not fascinate when he tried to light up the onion ‘volcano’… Had a groupon and to be honest even if they did the groupon again I wouldn’t go as the quality of the meat is not great either whether it was seafood or steak! Location not so great either… they can def improve on a lot of things

Hikari is consistently good and fresh. I’ve been going there for sushi for about 5 years and it has always been fantastic. Try the Tsunami roll — DIVINE. I’ve only been for the hibachi once and it was for an anniversary celebration. Hubs got steak & shrimp and I ordered steak & scallops and they were both delicious. I plan on going again for my birthday. The mustard sauce is to die for. Recommended!

I will have to admit, I was VERY skeptical from the looks from the outside and even when we walked in. However, we had a groupon and I was determined to find out how the food tastes. I’ve been to many hibachi restaurants and it seems most do the same show/tricks. This one however showed moves I’d never seen and the guy was pretty funny too. Made for a nice surprise! Before the main course/show, we ordered the crab rangoon. The sauce that came with it tasted like a ketchup base… not my favorite. We got small servings of ginger salad and miso/onion soup. Rice and shrimp came during the show. I had the fillet and shrimp which were fantastic. The Yum yum sauce that came with the shrimp might be my favorite sauce in the world. The veggies(which normally I don’t eat) came with carrots and zucchini so I ate those and they were a pleasant surprise. I look forward to coming back and trying the sushi! I’ve read comments on the price after the groupon… but…it’s just a tip and tax and if you had a drink. No «hidden» charges. It did take us a minute to add it up and figure it out what it was, but it is legit. Honestly, 18% doesn’t cover what their tip should be anyway. Great experience!

We purchased a group on for this Steak House. Upon arrival we were early & the doors weren’t supposed to open for another 30 min. The Chef seated us & told us he’d go ahead and get us started with our appetizers. Chefs were fun & friendly which to me makes the dinner so much more enjoyable. Appetizers were crab ragoon & a mushroom soup which both were scrumptious to the palate. especially the mushroom(broth) soup. The entrée which was our protein & vegetables all cooked to perfection, very tasty! Of course you are served so much food that you aren’t able to enjoy it all there. Including our group on we still paid roughly $ 60 – 65. which for me is a little pricey but the food was amazing so I couldn’t complain. Chefs were the best part & kept us thoroughly entertained and pleased with our visit.

Teriyaki chicken & shrimp is usually what I get when we go here which is 5 – 6 times a year. You also get soup and a salad if you sit in the steak house side. They have a sushi bar and a tempura side as well. This is one of our go to places for family dinners and birthday’s. We have even eaten here one Christmas Eve since it was one of the only places open and we had just arrived back in town after a very long drive. This is a family owned establishment and we have always had great service. The wife loves the sushi. You get a fun show from the chef. They also are very attentive and make sure your water is always full and will get you another beer in a heart beat. One night we order some Volcano Drink that was on fire and passed it around the table. My mother-in-law was a little tipsy after she drank 75% of it. It is a good place to have good food and a good show.

This place might have ruined sushi for me. Considering I used to eat sushi about once a week, that’s saying a lot. I went to Hikari for lunch with a friend and ordered the spicy tuna salad and a rainbow roll. The tuna salad came out first, and I was excited to see an appetizer plate piled high with large chunks of ahi tuna. Unfortunately, the generous amount of fish was the only positive aspect of this meal. The tuna was basically drowning in what tasted like watered-down mayonnaise, and it was unusually chewy and warm. After a few bites, I had to push it aside and hope the rainbow roll would be better. Spoiler alert: The rainbow roll was not better. The hunks of fish atop the roll were not fresh. Like the tuna, they were warm and chewy, especially the shrimp, which nearly made me gag. I could not eat most of the fish, and it did not even look appealing; in fact, it looked sickly and shiny, almost sweaty, as though it had just gotten over the flu. From what I could tell, there were only two people working in the mostly empty restaurant, which would have been fine if service hadn’t been incredibly slow and the server hadn’t spent most of his time watching television in a neighboring booth. I only have an hour for lunch, so I had to suck it up and pay my $ 15 without complaint so I could make it back to work on time. Now I have a mean case of shrimp-related PTSD, and I haven’t eaten sushi in months. To be fair, my friend said her food was«okay,» but if you want to get the most for your money, you should go elsewhere.

We went here last night after purchasing a Groupon for dinner for 4. It included two appetizers and 4 entrees. We were seated after a brief wait(maybe 5 – 10 minutes) since they do not accept reservations on the weekend. The atmosphere was pretty awesome — I read through previous reviews before coming and I couldn’t care less about the flooring or anything like that. What I care about is how the food tastes! Our ginger salad and onion soup was brought out, and then our two appetizers came soon after — crab rangoon and gyoza. All of it was amazing — crab rangoon was excellent! Once we were done, our chef came over and started cooking on the grill directly in front of us. He put on a good show, for sure! I opted out of having shrimp thrown from his spatula into my mouth because well, I’m just not coordinated enough to catch flying food into my mouth. :) The sushi wasn’t very good, and our friends that came with us are avid sushi lovers. They said there are much better places in town to get sushi, and weren’t very impressed. We did love the sirloin steak, and the chicken was unbelievably awesome. The fried rice was a bit salty for my taste, but still edible. At the end of the meal when we went to pay, we were surprised when our bill was almost $ 70. We had a Groupon! But I guess they added in sales tax, and 20% gratuity(plus one Coke and one beer). Overall, I doubt I would come back without a Groupon because it’s too expensive for the overall quality of food. If I were to drop $ 100+ I would go to a fancier restaurant to get a better cut of steak. But it was worth going to once or for a special occasion if money isn’t an issue because it was entertaining and definitely an experience to try.

I went out on a first date to Hikari for some sushi on a Tuesday night around 8PM. The hostess sat us at the sushi bar which is directly in front of the Japanese shrimp-throwing stations. Each of those stations were filled with large parties, each one celebrating a birthday. «Happy Birthday» was sang 4 times during our sushi meal which was both irritating but also an excuse to get close to my date. We filled out the sushi form and handed it to the chef. He said he was out of one of our choices. We took the paper back and chose something else. He was out of that too. Try 3. Fail. Try 4. Fail. By try 5, he had the fish that we settled for. The sushi was delicious and was given to us in a quick manner. I forgot the names of the rolls we ordered, but they were all tasty. We ordered 2 rolls and 2 individual fish things(Sorry, I’m not any good at sushi terminology) and the bill came to $ 24 which I thought was very reasonable. Although, apparently my date thought $ 24 was outrageous because he made me split the bill. Needless to say, there has not been a 2nd date, but I hold this to no fault of the restaurant. Thank you for the sushi that you actually had and for the clean bathrooms.

We ate here the other night before going downtown to the Symphony. It was our first time at Hikari, but my symphony partner had a coupon from the Entertainment book that was good on a Saturday night, so we gave it a try. The décor is nothing much. The service is friendly and efficient. The food is OK. Not great, but OK. Everything was freshly made, and the chefs who prepare the food on the tableside grills were obviously experienced. Even with a coupon we found Hikari a bit pricy, but there was a lot of food and we ended up leaving with a couple of take-home boxes. Not sure I’d rush back, but I wouldn’t avoid it, either. Next time we might try eating up front and ordering from the a la carte menu to see what they offer.

A pleasant and fun teppanyaki place, it looks small from the outside but they actually have quite a few grill tables. They also have a sushi bar & a small dining area at the front for those who don’t want to order from the grill, but we wanted to see the show… which was about the same as every other teppanyaki restaurant I’ve been to, but was performed with enthusiasm & the requisite bad comedic timing by our chef. Blazing oil! Onion volcano! Catch the shrimp! The steak was nicely rare, the scallops were mild & tender. Plus, we didn’t feel rushed as we lingered over dessert, but it was fairly late by that point & no one was waiting. I wouldn’t have tried to linger if it had been earlier, they can be pretty packed. They don’t take reservations on the weekend, but they move folks through pretty well, so the wait has never been long for us.

Location doesn’t matter when you offer a unique product well, right? Yet location was perhaps what kept me from going to HIkari for all this time. I shop at the Whole Foods across the street from it weekly, yet I never found the occasion to go. A conference and a steal of a gift certificate(I bought a $ 100 certificate for $ 12 — eat your heart out Groupon!) led me to this excellent culinary experience. Great for as few as a couple or as large as 10. Your Japanese chef will cook great food, entertain you with the food and regale you with jokes, and throw a few shrimp into your mouth. Great fun, reasonably priced, and conveniently located off Metcalf.

This was my first time here after buying the $ 20 for $ 40 Groupon a little while back. I think we arrived around 7:00 and the place was packed. The décor is circa 1987, I don’t think anything has been changed since then. Instead of waiting the 20 – 40 minutes for the main area where the chefs prepare the food, we opted for a side dining room by the front door. Our waitress was hard to understand based on her accent, but very cheerful. We ordered two foo foo drinks and then opted for the entrée for two of ribeye and shrimp. The onion soup really had zero flavor, the ginger salad was decent. I had taken two bites of my salad when our entrees arrived. I wasn’t expecting them to time it out perfectly, but some timing would have been appreciated. The plate consisted of sliced ribeye, shrimp, fried rice, and an assortment of vegetables(carrot, zucchini, mushrooms, onion, and potatoes). What’s wrong with that picture? Potatoes. The meal was decent, it wasn’t great. The best part was that after the Groupon, my bill was $ 17. I always tip on the full amount, and I did even though the service wasn’t very good. Most service when you go out for Japanese food that I’ve found is average at best. The bad part is that both of us had to go into the ring with the heavyweight champ of gut bomb about an hour later.
