Pretty typical Americanized tepanyaki. Ok sushi rolls, but it kills me when sushi restaurants use Krab, take note of the K. Good proximity to the convention center which is why were in Pasadena, I think I’d explore farther out…

This place is EXTREMELY overpriced. Food is Meh. Service is bad too. The waiter we had forgot my order and spilled water on a customer at the next table.

I’ve been here a lot but I this was probably my last time!!! We had reservations for 7 but were stuck looking for parking for 20 minutes so when we got to restaurant at 7:25 they made us stand there and wait for 30 min even though we called and told them we were late. After all that the girl acted like there was room but she forgot about us… Anyways the chef was not good at all he messed up every bodies order and he was not a trained chef. He had no idea what he was doing. I ordered filet and lobster and i got 4 tiny pieces of lobster the other guy who ordered lobster got most of mine too. On top of that the waitress left us with empty cups all night!!! I won’t be going back anymore. The food was bland.

Way too much butter on everything; bad service, high prices and average food. Our chef(Martin?) was great but our server(older woman?) had an attitude. She was rude and made faces(rolling eyes). They messed up our order so we had to wait another while. The rolls were average and the food has way too much butter. $ 3 or $ 4 extra for fried rice. I would probably try another teppenyaki place before returning here. The 2 stars are for the chef and cleanliness of the place.

I am definitely a fan of Tokyo Wako! I came here about a week ago for my mom’s birthday and we had great dining experience. Not only was the food amazing, the drinks were yummy, and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. We made reservations for a group of 8 and as soon as we walked in we sat straight by the grill(we didn’t have to wait at all). As soon as we got seated, we ordered right away and the chef came to our grill within the next 5 – 7 minutes which was great. The service was extremely fast and the staff are very attentive. The food was pretty good, with medium-to-large portions, and are pretty shareable. After we were done eating, and we’re ready for dessert, I told the waitress it was my mom’s birthday, so they brought out a cake and a traditional Japanese costume for my mom to wear and took a photograph of the entire group. Overall, we had a great time!

Overall summary: good, but not great. Nice dining area. Convenient. I will likely come back when I am already at the Paseo, but this is not a destination for sushi. Explanation: I had not been here in a long time, but recently wandered in after a movie(and after discovering a long wait at The Yard House). We asked to be seated in the dining room(rather than the teppan grill) and were seated immediately. The service was pretty slow, even though the place was pretty empty. The yellowtail carpaccio was delicious — the best thing we had. The garlic edamame were good. The spicy tuna crispy rice was OK(I have definitely had better). The mixed tempura was also only OK. I had some sort of mojito cocktail that was way too sweet, even after I squeezed the lime in there. I had to ask the bartender to top it off with some club soda after a couple sips. I still did not enjoy the drink. I will get a beer here next time, instead of a cocktail.

TWR is hidden in the back, top level of paseo Colorado. And it should be kept back there nice hidden. Their redeeming traits are that service was really friendly and their happy hour prices look tempting — for drinking only, not eating. Despite good happy hour pricing, which we didn’t know about till we got there, I’d skip food cause of the food poisoning from our lunch. That salmon was beautifully presented but for an 18 $ pre tax n tip lunch, you think it’d be fresh enough to avoid being keeled over the toilet all afternoon. Yowza They do have reasonably priced lunch specials that change each weekday but prob still isn’t worth getting the sickies. I vote to keep this chain in its place — all by itself, so lonely n sad so it doesn’t make anybody else sick booooo

This is for the dining area and not the grill. Went on a Sunday afternoon around 3:30pm. There was NOONE there which is what we expected given the time of day. We placed our orders which consisted mostly of sushi. Everything seemed all good. Got our beers, got our 3 non sushi orders, and then a hour passed. Seriously, we waited for an hour hoping we would get our sushi orders and did not even think about leaving since we were at the point of no return. The servers did continue to pass by to refill our drinks and give us ETA’s on the food but those ETA’s kept getting longer and longer. Finally, I went to speak with the Manager but that was the worst part of the entire ordeal! I asked her politely what was going on and why we have not received our food given that we were 1 of only 3 tables with diners. Her response was that since there was only 1 sushi chef, they are really behind. I get it since it was an odd time of the day. I asked her why didn’t anyone warn us since they knew they were behind and she said that they didn’t want to tell us because some diners think it’s rude. WTF?!? What idiot would think it was rude to let them know they would have to wait an hour before getting a piece of hamachi. Total BS. We asked for the check and they still f’d it up by adding food that we didn’t receive. No apologies, no discounts, nothing. Never going to this location again. Come eat at Tokyo Wako if you want to wait hours before eating and seeing an episode of Restaurant Rescue in person.

Foods good and the kids love it here. The service level has dropped tremendously. Wish they work on the customer service, we’ve been coming here for 10 years and this past year it’s been hit and miss.

Mosey down over here if you can’t make the yard house happy hour. It ends at 7pm. 50% some appetizers and sushi options. Good prices on alcohol. About $ 13 a person can get you full. I also treated myself to the teppan-yaki because it was star wars release night — a special night in other words. Just like at Benihana, the chef puts on a cooking show with fire, smoke, and awesome knife work tricks. The chef we had was probably the most athletic of them all, doing tricks I haven’t seen others do at other restaurants. All in all, a good time had by everyone. Best part was not having to wait in line for decent quality food for the prices paid when it was packed every where else.

I have no idea how this place stays in business! Attended the supernatural convention and decided to eat close by Big mistake!!! The service is ok but the food and the quality just terrible. I ordered a roll with spicy tuna on top and right away before I even tasted it. I knew it was poor quality. I was starving and said a quick prayer before I ate it. No flavor I decided to splurge and also try something called King roll or something. It was real crab and asparagus wrapped in soy paper. Besides being almost $ 20 it was horrible and the dipping sauce was butter and soy sauce with lots of garlic. The worst!!! The butter had congealed and looked gross. This place was super expensive and of the lowest quality. NEVER going back.

I’m getting more and more disappointed with this place because they don’t put on a show anymore. Either they’re getting lazy or can’t find someone with the skills. The older Asian guy thinks he’s a comedian so he talks way more than he cooks. The Hispanic guy is slightly better but he’s a lot more reserved and quiet. Prices remain to be the same, if not more due to inflation, but they try to entice you with their new Happy Hour menu from 5−7pm. It’s cheap but the quality isn’t the best. Very simple, typical, generic flavor. What you expect from a sushi-to-go menu. One thing I did notice about this place is that they love to put butter in everything. Lots and lots of butter, and salt. Don’t let the small portions fool you. It’ll fill you up real quick. And make you super, super thirsty.
