Start your day of wine tasting the East side here! We had one of the most friendly and helpful servers at J. Lohr. Overall great time & high quality wine. Nice little gift shop surrounding the bar. Five star experience!

I had to stop by J Lohr before we left Paso to grab a bottle of my boyfriend and I favorite wine; Hilltop. I wasn’t impressed much by the tasting room given the big J Lohr name, I guess I expected larger. Also, we walked in and browsed the entire retail section and were never greeted yet there were about 4 or 5 servers at the bar and they had just opened. We asked to try Carols vineyard, a highly rated wine, to compare against Hilltop and the server was pleasant. I’m glad we did try it before purchasing as we still preferred Hilltop. I would definitely stop in for a purchase but I didn’t think this winery was worth staying much longer for…

Great wine and friendly staff. It was raining when we went so we nearly had the place to ourselves. We had a great experience and we were able to enjoy our packed lunch there as well. We joined the wine club and purchased two additional bottles. We highly recommend stopping here.

Best stop of the day! Complimentary wine tasting of 6 wines, beautiful and comfortable tasting room, our pourer Kelly was amazing! She really paid attention to what we liked and didn’t like and gave PERFECT recommendations on what to taste next. Five stars for Kelly! Best one of the day was the Monterey Valdiguie. DELICIOUS! Will definitely be coming back! Took home 6 bottles! And you get a discount when you buy in bulk ;)

Notable wines in a great environment. This winery has a much more casual feel and approach than some. The beautiful old farmhouse is a real treat and quite refreshing considering so many of the mondo Italian-eque wineries. Staying true to the architecture of the area is a reflection of their longstanding success as a Paso Roble’s winery. If you like toasty, buttery, and rich chardonnay’s the 2012 J. Lohr Arroyo Vista Chardonnay is for you! This is definitely a red wine drinker’s white wine. If the weather is pleasant take your tasting out to the patio and relax with some friends. The afternoon breeze from the coast makes wine tasting on the East side quite pleasant.

Stopped here on the way back to the Bay Area from Pismo Beach. Jay was our pourer, he was great! In addition to having a great pourer, he helped us decide what to taste and it was all FREE. Great location, beautiful outdoor area, great place — highly recommended!

The wines were very good and we ended up buying a few bottles. They give you 6 free tastings which was great. We did notice some reps had a heavier hand than others.

Listen. I don’t want anyone fired here but if you are a manager and want to run a better operation, tell your employees not to smoke before work. I tried to enjoy the wnes but all we smelled was CIGARRETTESTENCH coming from our pourer. Nice person but that should not be allowed in a tasting room. At first we thought it was just another customer that was next to us so we moved to the other end of the bar. The smell followed our pourer. Ughh! Didn’t care for the wines either. One person in our group ended up buying a white wine so there’s that. It’s all subjective on tasting wine but c’mon I shouldn’t be smelling an ashtray when I stick my nose into my glass.

Great place with excellent wines. Rare place where there is no charge for the first flight of tasting. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Enjoyed the atmosphere and experience. Staying at a hotel in Paso Robles will often get you an additional 10% off of any wine purchases you make.

J Lohr was our destination for wine tasting and we arrived early on Saturday morning. Normally you pay for wine tasting but this was free. There were four of us. The man who was helping us, his name started with an a, but I can’t remember the rest, was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous. We found six wines that we liked and had them shipped as we were traveling. I wish I lived closer because I would visit often. We enjoy the J Lohr wine from a distance in Arizona. Thanks for your great service and great wines.

Not our favorite winery visit during our wine country getaway, but it was quite enjoyable. We were pleasantly surprised to find a more laid back tasting room and atmosphere than we would have expected given the brand name recognition of the wine. The tasting itself went very smoothly and in general the quality of the wines was good. However, nothing jumped out at us, unlike many of the other wineries we tried on the trip.

I came here over the weekend with friends who are wine members. Arne served us, and had a horrible attitude the entire time. He hesitated on serving our party, told our limo driver that he thought our entire party was drunk, and had a very unprofessional attitude. Yes, one person may have been tipsy in our party, but everyone else was fine. Sad what a horrible impression they gave especially because my wine member friends had such high regards for this place. Speaking to the manager did not help, he was just as condescending. Yes, the wine is good, but the unprofessionalism is not worth returning.

I’m super bummed to write this review. J. Lohr was my favorite winery and one of my first wine clubs. My husband and I went there multiple times a year. We selected several of their wines to serve at our wedding. They were a must stop in Paso. Then the recession hit and we had to drop all our clubs, so it’s been a few years since we spent time in Paso and been to the J. Lohr tasting room. In their defense, we were there late in the day on the Saturday of Zin Fest, so it was crowded. We had a wine tour that day and had to switch vehicles so we had a case of wine with us that we had bought throughout the day, as well as our lunch cooler, so we grabbed a table outside and then noticed they had additional tasting tables in their event room. We went in there and tasted a couple wines, and then they needed to set up for an event that night so asked us to go into the main tasting room to finish our tastes. My biggest interest has always been their Chardonnays, so I really wanted to focus on those. I already had one and wanted to try the next two. The first thing that the tasting room staff person in the main room asked me was«how many wines have you tried because you only get 6.» Hmmm. But I’m not going to throw this guy under the bus because this must be coming from the top, right? He’s just doing what he’s told? I was honest and told him the truth(2) but then explained that I wanted to try the other two Chardonnays but then had three more reds I wanted to taste. He said that no, I could not because the limit was 6 and he doesn’t make the rules. Mind you, I was not guzzling wine. I then asked him if he could explain the differences between the three Chardonnays as they tasted extremely similar and were all the exact same price. He could not. Of course, no way would he bother pouring them all together so I could compare and contrast them right next to each other, since I wasn’t even allowed to taste the last red I wanted to try. At the end of the tasting, I asked him for two of the Chardonnays, one I specifically bought to pair with that night’s dinner and the other I wanted to take home and save for another occasion. He did offer up the Wine Line discount, which I wasn’t thinking about, so that was nice. However, when I was making dinner, I grabbed the first bottle from them which was the one i wanted to save, so I put that one back and put the other one in the fridge. When dinner was ready, I opened the bottle… And wondered why the cork was red. He packed the wrong bottle. It was a more expensive bottle, but it was one of the wines I wasn’t allowed to try and I honestly don’t really like it. Plus it didn’t go with dinner, so I was PISSED. The whole experience really turned me off from J. Lohr and I’m not sure I’ll be back, which is so sad given my history with this label. I even recognized other staff members from when we were members, and the ridiculousness was really that I could have dumped my glass and went up to him pretending to have not had any wine at that point. Big mistake by that staff person in my opinion.

How could I possibly give a review less than 5 solid red stars for this tasting room. The people are wonderful, the selections are scrumptious, the swag on sale is choice… am I swayed by that extra, complimentary pour? Maybe. Am I more swayed by the adorable personalities of the men and women behind the bar making life better one pour and smile at a time? Maybe that too. Thanks for laughing at my loud-mouthed jokes guys. You will always be my fave

I have been to J. Lohr on many occasions. Their staff is friendly and knowledgable about the wines. In the past few years you have been able to buy J. Lohr wines at grocery stores, but they do have a number of wines that are not sold outside of the winery. If you haven’t been it is definitely worth stopping in and checking it out.

This was my 2nd time to J Lohr, but what a pleasant experience. Nice grounds. Free tastings(5 pours), though we ended up with more. Randy, the server was engaging, knowledgable, and pleasant. We bought 3 bottles. We bought the Gesture Zinfindel. Big and fruit forward. Wonderful wine. We also bought the Highlands Bench Pinot Noir. For me, Pinots are a mixed bag. This one was fruit forward, but seemed to have some nice structure to it. And even better, when we were here, there was a 40% off sale. Last and certainly not least, was the 49 year Anniversary Blend. A blend of 4 different grapes. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Merlot and Malbec. So good. Why wouldn’t you want this. We had a wonderful time there.

J. Lohr is a staple. Good wines at reasonable prices. To get here is a little awkward. You definitely take the road off the beaten path. I seriously felt like we were off-roading to get here. Felt like I was in the middle of nowhere. Anyways, not as big as I thought. It’s actually a nice homey place and very unassuming. It was just a bonus that this winery is located here during our vacation. The fiancée and the future in-laws are really big fans of J. Lohr and buy cases of it. We came during the week and it was busy. We came just to say we actually been to the winery. The fiancée bought a case of the the Cab to split between him and the parents.

This was the first stop on our DIY wine tour. It’s quite a drive off the main road, but the tasting room and grounds are very charming. The tastings are complimentary, no appointment needed. We received fantastic service from Renee who knew the wines very well and the surrounding wine tasting area. She guided us through the tastings, and when we were finished, she made restaurant recommendations, gave us a map of the area, and told us what she knew about the other places we planned to visit. I also really liked that this was one of the few wineries that gave us a nice, reusable fabric wine bag carrier to carry our newly purchased wine. Classy touch! We are now J Lo fans!
