Mind you I’m 33 years old and I’ve never had a cavity in my whole life! I floss and brush everyday. Just went in for a routine visit
After a ton of x-​rays, including a panoramic view, and photographs. I finally got to a treatment room. The hygienist started with probing my gums for pockets, which both my last two dentists did AFTER the cleaning. She claimed I had a lot of 5s and 6s and needed a deep cleaning. Then the dentist came in. Also agreed that I needed a deep cleaning. He also said I needed bone– graphing or I was going to lose my molar and needed to make an appointment to see there periodontist there in the clinic. The hygienist was very unfriendly and refuse to do anything, but deep cleaning which was not covered on the insurance. They sent in a «money person» to review cost with me.
The finance person gave me paperwork showing that my «needed» treatments total over $ 6,000, with over $ 4,000 out-​of-​pocket. When I said that I would like to think about all that and could I just get a regular cleaning for today, she left to talk to the hygienist. When she returned, I was told that the hygienist refuses to give me a regular cleaning, because I NEED a deep cleaning. I went ahead with paid for the deep cleaning since I didn’t know what if they were telling me was the truth or not! Basically they scared me into it I went to another dentist to get a second opinion they told me there was nothing wrong with me and none of it was true… Wow …I hope they feel ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of people like this!!!

Avoid this for profit dentist practice at all costs!!! From the beginning of the appointment they push to sell services not needed for adults, then over bill the insurance company ($ 726 for a simple cleaning and x-​rays, absolutely not)!!! The insurance statement stated for many codes they billed, «this procedure is a duplicate on this claim». The office manager was very rude, talked over me, and kept saying this is how we always bill, that may be, but it doesn’t make it accurate or ethical. Do not use this business, cannot imagine what they charge if you need real dental work done… poor customer service, inflated billing, over selling of products/​procedures not needed.

AVOID this place!!! It’s a crappy chain with crappy customer service. I’m only giving one star because I can’t give zero! I scheduled an appointment for a cleaning a month in advance and gave them my insurance info. At the time I made the appointment, the girl told me they accepted my insurance. They called me yesterday to confirm my appointment. I show up today for my appointment, and they tell me they don’t take my insurance. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! I just scheduled my entire day around this appointment.

So many off these reviews make me laugh. I mean, I feel bad these people don’t understand what is going on in their mouths and the urgency of taking care of the issue. People who are ranting about this deep cleaning and mad the office won’t give you your «regular cleaning»…GOOD! This is a great thing, you would never want a band aid for a bullet wound. Treat your disease. I too was treated for the gum issues, and the education the doctor and hygienist told me was spot on. I did my research. I never once felt sold to, or used for my money. They offered great payment plans, and explained in depth why it was important to have this treatment done.
The guy who is complaining about the «bill» from his insurance company… I got this too. Surprise! This is not a bill. If you read it, it states not a bill. Call PMD… they will tell you these are FREE services they offer you. If the insurance pays them-​awesome. But they never expect the patients to pay them.
I have had a wonderful experience from day one with this office and the owner Dr. Poest. The team is great, they know me and my family by name. Hell, they even do charity work in the community! I can’t suggest this office and team enough. They are nice, knowledgeable, and modern! Give them a try yourself, you will see.

I recently moved to Pflugerville and was looking for a new dentist closer to my house. Somebody on a neighborhood listserv recommended that office, so I made an appointment for my regular 6-​month cleaning. I should have been leery for getting an appointment within a week. That is very rare for a dental office.

I felt totally scammed. After taking off work to get a cleaning, I spent over two hours at the dentist with no procedure performed. What a waste of time and money!

I moved to town within the last 8 months and was looking for a dentist. This office was close to my home and very convenient. There were no complaints against any dentist from the Texas Dental Board and reviews looked solid-​so I thought I would try. To begin I’m over 30 with no cavities. I have a very healthy mouth. Up until this last 8 month lapse, I had seen a dentist every 6 months. I had no pain, or discomfort, relatively white teeth and I brush twice daily with routine flossing (now that you now my dental history…). My visit should be routine and straightforward. The reception staff was professional and pleasant. The office was clean and modern-​as the name suggests. My first stop after intake was an x-​ray area. A very friendly and talkative technician took my blood pressure and pulse and proceeded to explain the process. We took a photo of me for my digital chart, digital bite-​wing x-​rays and then a panoramic x-​ray. This last step struck me as odd. I was under the care of an orthodontist in my youth and I remember this machine as he charted my progress. A dentist has never used this type of x-​ray on me. I moved to the examination room for a cleaning. The dental hygienist was very pleasant. She took digital photos of each tooth and began to clean. The cleaning was painless and gentle-​I might even say TOO gentle. My normal cleanings consisted of hard scrapping of tartar and staining. While I waited for the dentist someone from the front office came to recommend I accept a ‘fluoride treatment’ which would be additional and not covered by my insurance. I haven’t had such a treatment since I was 8! I have healthy teeth and declined. I was told they recommend this for ‘all of their patients.’ I was beginning to feel like a ‘mark’ being sold ‘extras’ I didn’t need. The dentist took quite a while to enter the room and begin his examination. He said he found a cavity and it would need to be filled. He pointed to a large white area on the digital x-​ray. A gentleman from the front office came back to review my financial responsibility as it related to the cavity. Again-I’ve never had a cavity. When I looked in the mirror my teeth didn’t look as clean as they normally did after a cleaning and they certainly didn’t have that ‘fresh from the dentist feel.’ Luckily I was heading home within a few weeks and I made an appointment with my old dentist. I’ve been seeing him for 12 years and trusted him implicitly. He reviewed the case notes and x-​rays. I even pointed to the white spot identified to me as a cavity. He said there are no visible cavities in any photo I provided. He also laughed about the fluoride treatment. He said for a healthy patient, especially after a ‘certain age’ it becomes absurd to recommend such a treatment. During my cleaning (less than 30 days from the first cleaning) there was a LOT of scraping, poking and digging. The hygienist said the amount of tartar she removed was consistent with not brushing or flossing for months and she did not believe I had my teeth cleaned less than 30 days ago. I also recently received a bill from my insurance company for hundreds of dollars, claiming the panoramic x-​ray is not standard nor covered. I have never paid out of pocket for a dental exam, cleaning or bitewing x-​rays. Pflugerville Modern Dentistry never told me these x-​rays may NOT be covered. If everyone visiting this office is treated exactly as I was-​other than a less than acceptable cleaning, and a questionable identification of a cavity I feel this practice makes it money by recommending superfluous and unnecessary procedures and over x-​raying every patient (and billing them for these unnecessary x-​rays). I’ll be switching dentists and fighting the bill from my insurance company.

Just terrible… The adminisrative staff doesn’t know what they’re doing and just make up things to appease you. Three people walked out disgruntled while I was there. The dentist kept calling my name instead of my son. Stay away.

Last year, my husband and I were searching for a dental office conveniently close to the house and easy to get to. unfortunately, Actually had confused it with another Pflugerville Dentist office. We went and were just shocked to know that we are expected to pay before any dental work is even done. We went in for «new patient» appointment and expecting to just get basic cleanings and had way more than that, supposedly I needed an «extensive/​deep cleaning» and this upset me very much because that meant more money spent and one reason they were bad as they were at that point is because i refuse to take medications or get «laughing gas» while pregnant, i don’t even like xrays because of «possible» risks, so i put it off.
I was very disappointed in the fact that they were very insensitive and tried to say things to «comfort» me which never was really comforting when «we understand and we are going to take care of you» which NO ONE could have understood how frustrated i was EVERYTIME I had to go, especially when there was not a need for it to take so freakin long to do one thing.
**one example i have of this is… i was sitting in chair and waiting for maybe 15 to 30 minutes before the cleaning i was to have done even got started, thanks to being forgotten that i was even there.
im not an idiot and ive had dental work done before (same one my whole life actually until i got married) and i would have much rather been treated with dignity and respect (or even not so much) from my lifelong dentist than to deal with this pathetic excuse for a dental office.
nothing could be more frustrating than having a tooth being pulled and see EVERY SINGLE TOOL DUMPED ON THE TRAY because they were «having trouble», it was hurting me but i was more upset because of worry about afterwards being in more pain instead of less (since had to use every single tool on tray to get the job done) and also being able to take care of my daughter properly like she needed because very young (less than 12 months old) at the time. I thank God that i was a lot better and actually was much better once i got the heck out of the building and headed home.
.i hate dentists as is (who doesnt?) and to be told that i am to have appointments within a certain time frame… is ridiculous. in less than a year our dental insurance was maxed out thanks to these guys. also i was referred to one place (i wrote a review for it on here too) which was A LOT better as far as being professional, but still expected pay upfront and hadn’t even seen me yet… for an extraction due to an impacted wisdom tooth…
this business and every place they refer you to expects pay upfront, before things are even started.

They do not tell you that insurance does not cover the extra expense for same day crowns. The equipment would not work that day so a temp. crown was installed and weeks later the new crown was there. Our bill reflected the same day crown and was over $ 367 more than what insurance said we should be billed. After meeting with the office manager, the bill was reduced about $ 228 since the same day crown was billed in error. They also bill insurance for «oral hygiene instruction» at $ 75 during routine cleaning and exams. Insurance does not cover this ridiculous expense. So if you use this place, get a pre determination of benefits from your insurance before agreeing to anything. This is the only dental or medical provider that we have ever used that billing and insurance do not line up.

I had scheduled a surgery a month and a half in advance and did all the necessary things they asked me to do to prepare for surgery. The day before surgery at around 4:45 pm they called me and canceled my surgery because the surgeon did not want to do it. I voiced my displeasure but they did not do anything to try to resolve the issue, not even a apology. Very nice staff but the office is ranned very unorganized. If you have a poor experience with them they will not try to do anything to make the experience better, not even an apology. I would reccomend going with someone else.

Ive been with PF Modern Dentistry for over 2 years. I have gotten a variety of procedures done to basic cleanings to crowns and including an emergency that they were able to immediately fit me in to address. The only complaint I would say that I had was when i did Invisalign last year and they turned the orthodontic side into a very Kids orientated design and environment. LOL. Well that is really my problem and not their’s if I don’t like to be examined surrounded by rainbows and butterflies on the wall:) But seriously, I have never had a bad experience and for somebody who only comes in for the basic preventative thing now; I still find it nice that Dr. Poest makes you feel comfortable and genuinely enjoys his patients. Coming from the East Coast back in 2011, i find the prices reasonable and I have never been pressured on be up-​sold on extras. The most I’ve been asked is a fluoride rinse. Sometimes I refuse, sometimes I take it. There is no change in their attitude that I have seen.

I’m pretty sure there are other people like me that absolutely dread going to the dentist. I’ve seen my fare share and there is a definite reason I wouldn’t go back. I arrived at the office this morning and was greeted by very friendly and smiling faces. The front office staff checked me in and I was almost immediately taken straight to the back. The gentleman took my X-​rays and then I had my consultation with the dentist. Now let me tell you I am very self conscious when it comes to my teeth. The back office staff couldn’t have made me feel any more comfortable. After speaking to Dr. Poest, he gave me a few options for treatment, and after choosing what I wanted to do they wasted no time getting me fixed up. I can honestly say everyone at the office made sure I knew what was going on. After leaving I can say I am very pleased. I would highly recommend giving this place a shot. For the first time I can say I will definitely be returning to Pflugerville Modern Dentistry.

These guys are crooks! Stay away. What all the reviews are talking about is true. I got unwittingly involved with them when my ex decided to change my kids’ dentist to one closer to his house. I won’t go into all the details because the guys below describe it pretty well. Basically, they will rip you off! Even if you have insurance, don’t be surprised to get a bill of several hundred dollars, mine was almost $ 500 due to extra work they perform. They will not tell you it isn’t covered, they will not give you an option and you will be stuck.
If you want a good dentist for your children, call Dr. Anthony Bain at Small Smiles. He is also in Pflugerville and you will get much better service there.

This business is deceitful and doesn’t care about their patients, only money. They did a shoddy job on a crown for me and after seeing two other dentists who agreed the crown needed to be replaced, Pflugerville Modern Dentistry won’t honor the replacement saying their «guarantee» is null and void because I didn’t get my annual cleaning with them.
Very shady and cruel. When I called to speak about it the man on the phone (Curtis) was very indignant and uncaring. He justified their position and couldn’t be bothered to even pull up my patient information before he firmly told me there was nothing the office would do for me.
Please please please don’t go here, they are not what they seem!

They are one of the worst practices out there. I went in and was told I need a deep cleaning. It was 900 after insurance which I cannot afford. They tried to push me into a payment plan and I said no. They wouldn’t let up on trying to get me to get this service to the point I was in tears.
Fast forward a couple months, I call to get my normal cleaning done and a guy answered the phone. He was extremely rude and told me there is no point for me to come in because they already knew what I needed. I said so until I pay for the deep cleaning, I can’t come in for anything else and he said no.
It seems like they just want to get as much money as they can from you and your insurance. They have to pay for all that «modern» equipment somehow. Don’t bother with this place, they will force you into trying to pay for something you can’t afford.

I have been looking for a new dentist for my entire family. My friend had a good experience here so, I thought I would drop in and see what they are all about. First, it would be great to have another choice for a dentist so close by as I have insurance that allows me to go anywhere,
I opened the door and walked inside. The young lady behind the desk (Christina) looked up from behind her glasses and moaned, «Sign in.» No greeting, no smile, just looked like someone just kicked her in the gut. I explained that I wasn’t there to sign in as I am looking for a new dentist for my family and I just had a few questions. Well, I didn’t realize that I had just ruined her day by strolling in to ask a few questions! The look on her face was repulsive! I handed her my insurance card and asked her if their facility accepted my insurance. Her eyes vaguely scanned my card and she handed it back to me saying, «Nope, we don’t take that.» I was surprised at her attitude (poor) and wondered why she didn’t even ask me a little something about it as my insurance is not one that is seen everyday but, is accepted everywhere (private insurance). So, I didn’t let her get away with that feeble attempt to discourage me from becoming new patients. I asked her, ‘Did you call the number for eligibility & benefits?” Which I knew that she hadn’t. So, heaven forbid that she had to get out of her chair and waddle back a whole 15 feet and asked someone with a brain whether my insurance is accepted. The response I heard was, «You have to call the number on the card for eligibility & benefits.» LOL
So, she waddled back up to the counter and said the things that I already knew.
It’s just that this woman had such a poor attitude! By the time I got home, I was hot!
It’s great that they have many good reviews but, given the amount of bad reviews that they have, I think I will keep looking. Because, honestly, I will not subject myself nor my family to such negativity. Why should I? Plus, the amount of BAD reviews is alarming.
To the owners: Have your staff ACTUALLY greet people when they come in. You may get new patients. You can live up to your claim on your website. At least tell them to pretend to care.

Pay Attention.

My wife and I recently moved to Pflugerville and have been looking to go local as much as possible and we have been very happy thus far. We both needed a good shine on the pearly whites and found Dr. Poest through a deal on Unilocal.We both made appointments and were very pleased with the customer service from the initial phone call. On both occasions I was in and out in under an hour. The doctor’s office is part of a new shopping center in PVille (you can get your tires rotated next door) so everything is brand new and the most cutting edge technology. Upon my arrival the secretary explained how the process was going to work and walked me through all the needed paperwork. I appreciated that they made me sign multiple times acknowledging I would be charged for this and that and that I was authorizing Dr. Poest to do this. Ben and his staff all strive to provide great customer service and educate you along the way to ensure you know what to expect. In the past I would have to grab a happy pill prior to my dentist visits but I felt very much at ease and had minimal discomfort. Having someone work in your mouth has a level of discomfort that cannot be avoided regardless of the dentist and at times these visits could be costly, all the more reason to floss and brush. I had my 2^nd appointment this morning and got a sticker by my name, no cavities and 1 self imposed tooth on the watch list, I got my eye on you #3! When I was leaving I noticed that today is their big celebration with a dunking booth and fun games for the community, how awesome is that! They also recently opened a pediatric dentist next door to better serve the city of Pville. Thanks Dr. Poest and for all that you do for pville. On a side note Unilocalers be cautious of folks that only write negative reviews

Nothing but horror stories. I needed a crown, for which they kept pushing their extremely expensive CAD/​CAM product – «guaranteed to last for five years!” – when I have gold/​enamel crowns (at a fraction of the cost) that have been in place for 50 years. One of the staff told me gleefully that offices with the highest billings get a trip to Vegas.
When they couldn’t talk me into a Five Year Special, they then put in a temporary crown that fell out not once but twice. The permanent crown was glued down not by a dentist but by a dental assistant who told me she used to work in a beauty parlor three years before. No grinding on carbon paper to check the seating, just pop it in and there you go. I had to point out to her that she left a solid spike of epoxy that prevented me from even closing my mouth. Oops, whatever.
No final check by a dentist, but you can be sure there was on the financial side. The tooth still isn’t right., but that’s for another dentist to fix.

I went through the same situation as Rachel and Tom. They said I needed a deep cleaning but it would cost around $ 900.00 after my insurance. I wasn’t understanding why it was going to cost so much so I involved my insurance company myself and they said they do cover my deep cleaning and there’s no way it should run me that much money. I called the dental office back and told them what my insurance company stated and the dentist office then proceded to tell me that they added extra stuff into my deep cleaning and the extra expense was for that. I never went back for my cleaning I took my business else where.

I came in for a cleaning the other day. After they took X-​rays, they proceeded to spend the next two hours giving me a sales pitch for expensive laser cleaning procedures not covered by my insurance, then left me sitting in an exam chair for 45 minutes. They told me they wouldn’t clean my teeth unless I paid them an extra $ 800 for stuff I didn’t want or need. I never got my teeth cleaned and I feel very mislead by the whole experience. I’ve had my car in enough shady garages to know when somebody’s making crap up to try to sell me and that’s what happened here.
I figured I’d call up there and talk to them before I posted a review, and the lady in the office was very rude and condescending when I told her why I was cancelling my appointment. There was no attempt made to apologize or rectify the situation; when I told her the problem (very reasonably, I might add), she obviously didn’t give a flip and tried to get me off the phone asap.
They have a very fancy, slick office with a ton of expensive gear, but don’t be fooled — they pass that expense on to you. Stay away from this money pit.
