Not as good as billed. This is a very cute little hole in the wall sandwich shop. The staff are friendly and fun. The prices are OK. The sandwiches are good, but I was expecting much more. This place is supposed to have the best Cubano sandwiches ever. I had one and it was good, but not great. I’ve had at least 2 other better Cubanos(they’re one of my favorites). My mother-in-law had the tuna sandwich and she did say that it was the best tuna sandwich that she has ever had. Not worth a special trip, but if you are in the neighborhood, it is worth a stop.

I checked out the Pork Belly Cuban sandwich. Nothing to rave about. For $ 10 portion is very small and on the dry side. Go to the food carts on 5th avenue for a much better value.

I work close by so stumbling upon Bunk today I decided to finally go in and give it a try. I am a HUGE sandwich lover and if your whole thing as a restaurant is sandwiches well then from the outset Im interested. The place is tiny and little dark as a lot of Portland places are and the staff working the counter is typically stand off-ish. All of this I like, if Im not going out for a fancy dinner I don’t need to be hand held through your menu board choices, so no complaints here on that front. I ordered the tuna melt after asking how the pulled pork was prepared only to be answered by a blank stare until I elaborated«you know what do you put in it?»(the answer by the way seems to be only mustard). The tuna melt itself is my only real bitchfest with this place. It simply was not an $ 11 sandwich($ 12 with a tip). It too seemed to be only treated with mustard and Im not 100% sure it was albacore, they call it a melt but its actually served Panini style making the bread really hard on the outside, I didn’t like this and wouldn’t have ordered that had I known and frankly expect a sandwich joint to know the difference between a melt and a Panini. I would go back because they have that pulled pork and a pork belly cubano that Im guessing I should’ve ordered and an apple slaw on the menu that I want to try. They also listed a «creamy tomato soup»…don’t even get me started on soup. Also they have beer here, had it not been a work lunch that can of caldera I saw would’ve made my mustard sandwich go down a lot better.

Sandwiches are delicious, but expensive. $ 11.00 for a tuna melt with chips. The Italian sub is yummy too, but also $ 11.00.

Bunk makes a really good toasted sandwiches. Very small place with very little space to dine in but if you find yourself nearby you are in for a treat.

PORKBELLYCUBANOS!!! $ 10. This is the only item we had here and it was freaking delicious. Next time I’m in town I’ll have to try some other items on the menu. The bread was perfectly crunchy without being painful to bite down. There was a delectable spread of pork belly, ham, cheese, mustard, pickles, and probably something else… Such perfect proportions of meats to sauce to cheese to bread. Each ingredient had a solid contribution to the flavor and did not overpower other ingredients. The ONLY improvement I could possibly think of is browning the pork belly before throwing it in. This would add another level of flavor to the sandwich that I think could only help it further!

A bit over priced for«OK» sandwiches. I love small businesses and hole in the wall places, but there are much better places down the street to eat. Had both the Pork Belly and Meatball. Nothing worth telling your friends or family about. Sorry.

Went with a couple friends, we each got different sandwiches, none of us were impressed. I had the cubano, and it was just disappointing. The pork belly could have been any random sandwich meat, it had no distinct flavor and was overpowered by the ham. Basically if I got this sandwich for six dollars I still would’ve been disappointed, not sure how they can justify ten dollars. There are much, much better ‘wich options in Lardo and SU&E, don’t waste your time here.

I came in… there were a lot of people who seemed to be waiting for sandwiches. I ordered a cubano(my first Bunk sandwich ever), the dude asked my name and wrote it down. 40 seconds later, he said my name and looked blankly around the place holding a bag… I said, do you mean me, and he blinked and said my name off the bag again. We had just spoken. 1 min and 40 seconds ago… LOL Anyway, clearly they have the Cubano’s premade some of the time and so I got my food in 40 seconds while others seemed to still be waiting for what must’ve been custom orders. I’ve had cubano’s from other places downtown and food carts, etc. and this one at Bunk was solid and OK but also not really worth the $ 10 they charged to me… The little bag of chips included is an extra value, though I suppose. I work over 7 blocks away, and will be unlikely to make a special trip to get down to this location.

I did my foodie research before coming to Portland for a conference. I saw the good reviews for Bunk and saw that it was close to my hotel. Score. It is a small establishment so be on the lookout for it. There is only a small amount of seating so it was good that we were not there during the main rush and our party was only a party of two. It was easy for me to find something I liked on their menu. I got the ROASTBEEF w/horseradish, caramelized onions, dijon & sharp cheddar. I will say, I am not a big meatball sub sandwich person, but that looks really good. I can’t remember what my friend got, but we both agreed that the sandwiches were quite good. Glad we stopped in. It really hit the spot.

Im always looking for a mean sandwich and thought I would give this place a try as I heard some good things about them. This is one of the locations they have around town, this location is pretty small but that’s ok, I’m here for the mean sandwich. We came in for a later afternoon lunch and only a few people were inside so we were able to grab a few stools at the counter. We got the Pork Belly Cubano: tasty, porky and quite delicious! Good take on the sandwich, definitely something I would keep ordering. Also, we got the Meatball Parmigiano Hero Sandwich: nice tender meatball, a good sauce, nice melty cheese over the top and just couldnt eat it fast enough! Yea I would say these sandwiches are pretty mean, so I plan on coming back when I am in town. Good sized sandwiches, prices were fine, staff dudes working there were nice to shoot the breeze with, so Bunk has my vote for a place to get a tasty sandwich!

Best meatball sub I’ve ever had. Me and a friend split the pork belly cubano and the meatball. While the cubano is good, I was drooling over the meatball. It’s got a kick to it which suprised me.

I have heard such good things. I went to this location with my cousin since a certain sandwich place that shall remain unnamed was closed for the day. I had heard that the pork belly cubano was the way to go. I guess I expected to see more menu items, but for some reason the other sandwiches just didn’t jump out at me. I feel like the sandwich we got was a little sad and deflated. However the flavors were all there. The pork belly was nice and fatty and rich. The other accoutrements were a good counter to the fattiness and saltiness of the pork. The bread was ok, it wasn’t terrible, but I like a good roll with my sandwich. The cheese was also pretty darn delicious and plentiful. Maybe I just had on rose colored glasses that day and they slapped on regular swiss from the store, but I enjoyed it. I’d be curious to try some of the other sandwiches at another location. Thanks for the introduction.

My mother and I worked up quite the appetite after going on the epic Secrets of Portlandia tour. I had Bunk Sandwiches as a Unilocal bookmark(recommended by a PDX food blog) and saw that it was near where our tour finished, so I felt it was the perfect lunch spot. Numerous Unilocalers mentioned the deliciousness of the Pork Belly Cubano, so I opted for that while my mother selected the Pulled Pork. Both sandwiches had incredible flavor and the freshest ingredients. The side of kettle chips was a perfect compliment. We grabbed a seat at the bar-like area in front of the kitchen and chatted with the chef. He was extremely nice and was happy to answer all of our questions about the sandwich shop and Portland in general. Many thanks to him for the ultimate Stumptown sandwich experience!

We had just got to Portland. We were hungry. The fiancé had heard of the greatness of Bunk, so we headed out. This location is small; a little hidden. It was hot, so we were happy to see that it was not too crowded inside. We sat down at the bar with a real Coke, and grilled PB&J and Pulled pork. Decent prices; quality bread and food. You can see them making it right there. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Not too many veg options but I don’t expect that from a hole-in-the-wall sandwich joint.

Fast, tasty sandwiches and the quickest service. Within five minutes I placed and I paid, my sandwich showed up. And it was a tasty sandwich. Pork belly charsiu and cubano ham fits together like a charm. Blended with melted white cheddar and we’ll placed pickles, the sandwich is a dream. Place is small but it gets the job done, I’m just glad I came during an off peak hour. I’ve seen crazy lines form in many places in this town and I bet the lines here could grow.

We finally made it to Bunk. It’s been on my to do list but just never got around to it on our previous trips to Portland. It’s a small hole in the wall joint w/a handful of counter stools. No worries… just grabbing a couple of sandwiches before going to OBF. We were greeted by a nice young man who was happy to let us know what his favorite sandwiches were only to have the other guy behind the counter tell him that those were only available at the other location. Ha, ha, ha… we wanted the Pork Belly Cubano & Pulled Pork sandwich anyway. The Pork Belly Cubano w/ham, Swiss Cheese, pickles & mustard in between a nice crusty bread was delicious! The Pulled Pork w/apple cabbage slaw, pickles & mustard in between a Kaiser roll as it should be was also pretty tasty. We’ll be back!
