This place is amazing. A marvelous hidden gem. NOLINES! The chai is terrible, the coffee drinks aren’t great but what’s worthwhile are the waffles. Sweet or savory, they are AMAZING. And a great deal of food for a reasonable amount of $$. The food cart is able to sustain all by itself w/no foot traffic — there’s something to that. My only complaint is that IT’S ONLYOPENUNTIL2PM! That is THEWORST! Luckily the food is the best. Recently though the employee running the cart has been on the ass end of ornery. Maybe they’re lonely on the job or something is bringing them down, but it’s kind of sad when I’m so excited to get there before it closes and then I’m greeted with this bummer employee who seems really unhappy. Luckily that has had zero affect on food quality or how quickly the orders come up. Still, I hope the employee will find a way to get their needs met so they can be a bright spot at Flavour Spot. ;)

With fast service, amazingly delicious dutch tacos, and menu options of both savory and sweet waffles, Flavour Spot is an excellent spot for breakfast on Lombard! As a fan of savory food myself, I’ve ordered the #1(Sausage & Maple) and the Ham & Gouda with added maple butter. The waffles here are soft, fresh, and nicely soak up any added maple butter in the taco. I highly recommend spending an extra dollar fifty to elevate your dutch taco to the next level with some maple butter! It’s the perfect combination of savory-sweet that I like, given that the sweetness of the maple butter doesn’t overpower the savory elements in the dutch taco. Though both the #1 and the Ham & Gouda are absolutely delicious, I think my favorite out of the two would have to be the Ham & Gouda. The combination of black forest ham, gouda cheese, and(added) maple butter inside a waffle is simply genius. The #1 is also excellent, though I think that the sausage used at Bagel & Box(which I believe is Flavour Spot’s sister cart of some sort?) tastes better than here. Nonetheless, the #1 is super bomb! It’s my boyfriend’s favorite. Finally, although some reviewers feel that it’s pricey here, I think Flavour Spot’s prices are super reasonable for the quality and amount of food you get. Although the dutch tacos may not look the biggest, they’re really filling and super satisfying. As a Portland transplant, I’m shocked(and blessed!) that so many food carts pump out super noms, high quality food for a decent price– Flavour Spot is no exception :)

I’m obsessed… The lady friend introduced this cart to me on our 2nd date(won me over consequently). I’ve tried a few things on the menu, but If i’m being honest, the #1 sausage and Maple(2 – 3 sausage patties, maple donut topping as condiment) get the job done. Pair that with great coffee(Portland Roasters) and the morning is made. The folks who work there are always working hard to get the order out fast and are super nice.

Forget the waffles you can find all over Portland with baked-in tasties like cheese or pieces of bacon. If you can’t decide between«Waffle!» or «Breakfast sandwich!» or «Foldable food!» then wow have I got a(Flavour) spot for you: meet the waffletacobreakfastsandwich. These are by definition unhealthy, so why not go ahead and add on the maple butter anyway? You definitely should; it’s the perfecto touch that elevates your standard waffle-wrapped sausage patty breakfast to nearly divine status. If you ever as a kid worked hard to get that perfectly savory-sweet bite combo, you know what I’m talking about. So does everyone else, because you can get regular, veggie, or vegan sausage(so Portland!) and pretty much everyone in line was in fact ordering one of the three. Or more. There are other options(from ham and gouda to Nutella), but do get that maple butter if you go the savory route. If they’re busy on a weekend morning you’ll have to wait a few minutes — but hey, what better way to spend that time than working through the shame induced by the presence of the gym next door? I’m sure you’ll be burning it all off later anyway…

Just entertained The Flavour” for the first time a few minutes ago. A friend highly recommended it and he was right on with his gloating review. It is a small place(kiosk) but it packs multiple options for a great eating experience. Not only are they creative with there presentation and combos, but exceptionally friendly and recommended some fun alternatives. Try it, enjoy and have a great time.

Desperate for espresso on my way to Egypt(NE Portland can just feel that far), I eyeballed Flavor Spot and zipped into the lot for a mocha. There were only a couple of people milling about on a Sunday at 12:45pm. The service was friendly. Not super fast but my mocha was perfect.$ 3.75 for 16oz. Since I had the non eating kid with me(no mom I dont want anything!) I got a butter and sugar waffle for $ 3. She ate half. It was a really good waffle. I know my kid. She can live on air until the waffle shows up.

Whoever is in charge of the satellite cart at Lombard & Newman needs to have a chat with the young man who was working there this morning. I asked for a salt bagel with cream cheese and lox — not too far a stretch for a cart which has salt bagels and smoked salmon boldly advertised on it in big red letters. It was long after I had paid(and tipped) that I was told they had neither salt nor my second choice, sesame. Fine, I guess«plain» will do. When I get home, I discover that no smoked salmon was on my bagel. I return to the cart, and ask the man where my lox was. He responds that he doesn’t know what lox is, and had a snotty attitude when telling me that. Seriously? A guy working at a bagel place doesn’t know what lox is? And, if not, why the hell didn’t he mention it at the time I ordered? I would have passed on the whole thing if I had known at the time I ordered that salt bagel with lox was unavailable. I’ll never go back there.

Flavour spot has an extensive menu of «Dutch Tacos.» These are soft, round waffles rolled around any number of fillings. The Number One, breakfast sausage and maple spread is the go-to on Lombard: a one-way trip to «Diabetic Comaland.» They serve Portland Roasting Coffee at this location, and I believe Café Spella at their Mississippi spot — this is a big deal, as most of Lombard is a no-go in terms of coffee(Bring your own mug to avoid sour paper taste. ;) If you venture to their Mississippi spot eRly enough, you will have the opportunity to try the Fried Chicken taco: the spicy batter, tender chicken and maple spread will convince you to quit your job at Wieden & Kennedy, and take up busking in order to support your new habit.

Used to drive by the Flavor Spot all the time and knew if I stopped just once, I would go back again, and again, and again(and sadly, I was right). I’ve only eaten the Sausage and Maple waffle, as well as the Nutella waffle, but I’m hooked. Both are delicious, and it just depends if I want my fav(sausage and maple) or I’m craving chocolate. I do need to branch out and try some of the others(which I eventually will), but I’ve been happy with the two I’ve ordered. Last time I stopped, I ordered the S&M waffle(keep your minds clean people, we are talking about food here…), a guy who was waiting for his order told me that the veg version is better than the real thing. I didn’t believe him, but the girl working there said the same thing. I am a meat eater, but I may venture off my carnivorous path next time I go and give it a try. I’ll let you know…

Note to self: If I get a strange hankering for a soggy, wet waffle with not-so-good ingredients, punch myself in the face to remind myself that I don’t like soggy, wet waffles with not-so-good ingredients. Call me crazy, but I just don’t get it. I have been here three times, and tried several different menu options, and every single time, I was more disappointed than the last. I hate to give such a harsh review, but there are just so many things wrong with this this product! Maybe the vegan options are better, but God knows I’ve had enough bad vegan food, so I won’t be going back for any of those things, either. I realize that the waffle is meant to be folded so they can put things inside, like cheese, meat, peanut butter, or whatever else they fancy; as a result, the waffle comes out undercooked, and honestly, it’s just not that good. It’s mushy and flavorless, and it completely falls apart and leaks liquid into your hand through the foil. I would expect that there is a better way to prepare this waffle, but since I don’t work at a waffle cart, or make soggy, wet waffles, I don’t know what that better way is. Perhaps there is no better way to make a folded waffle, so I will just give up on eating folded waffles altogether. The other problem with the«Dutch Taco»(not sure I like the sound of that) is the meat inside. The bacon is WAAAAYYYY too hard, like, it almost hurts my mouth to eat it, which is a huge bummer. If I order bacon, it better be good, and this bacon is not. Also, the sausage reminds me of the Egg McMuffin patties they serve at McDonalds, which also means, yeah, you guessed it, not very good. The ham and Canadian bacon are remarkably boring, and I just don’t care for either. The maple butter they put on the waffles is okay, but it’s just nothing worth going back for, because it doesn’t mask all of the other defects. I’ve tried it three times, and I’m done. There are so many good spots in this town for breakfast, including carts, with healthier options and cheaper prices for a quality product that results in a far more satisfying breakfast experience.

Stopped in this morning and had a No 3 Vegan maple and sausage waffle. Never had one served to me like a falafel sandwich. Not sure what vegan sausage they use but its a puck shaped variety that is pretty good. The maple and syrup and waffle were all a+. The only downside would be I think it’s a tad overpriced.

Considering the short distance from home to this food cart heaven, I was doing«what was I thinking before now » ? After a short decision on what to have, I did, as so many others have and had the maple, sausage waffle. The mix of savory and sweet hit the spot. Finally, I made a good decision. There looks to be many other choices to try on future visits, which will be plenty. Don’t wait to go so long like I did.
