It takes a lot for me to write a review on Unilocal,more so a positive review. I have had every single bad experience with hair salons you can think of, so I was super hesitant to make an appointment in the first place. I’ll just start off by saying that the atmosphere and people are so laid back and welcoming. Everyone is so unique and makes the atmosphere and experience that much better! I called last minute to get in for cut and color, and they got me scheduled same day which was awesome.
When you arrive, you are given a drink menu and have your choice of a complimentary beer, glass of wine, water, or tea. I honestly felt like my stylist listened to everything I said, and took it all in to consideration. Another bonus is the chairs at rinse sinks are massage chairs, which is paired with the best scalp massage ever! They use products that are not tested on animals, and they don’t use 1,000 things in your hair to get you to buy their products. Nothing more frustrating than getting home and showering and trying to do what the stylist did… but not having ANY of the billion products they used.
I would highly recommend making an appointment with any stylist there. They are all extremely talented!

Everything about Oranj is awesome.
The space, the people, and especially how you feel when you leave. I have seen both Tamara and Steven and I trust them entirely with my hair. My style is pretty simple but they have both made me walk out of the salon feeling like a new woman :)
The environment when you go to get your hair done is hip and most of all welcoming, down to every detail they make you feel so comfortable.
They also have especially amazing products that I haven’t seen around town. When Steven last did my hair I asked him about the things he was using and he gave me mini tutorials on each, I loved it.

I have had multiple people cut my hair, love them all and while all the stylists are unique, there’s certainly a consistency amongst them all. Very good for someone like me who doesn’t plan far ahead; I am in always in good hands. Have a glass of wine or a Ranier, kick back and put your trust in them. Bonus: it’s right around the corner from home! See you all this Wednesday!

I heard about Oranj Salon because they were top 4 finalists for the Best Salon in SW at the Portland Style and Fashion Awards :) I was so very lucky to get an appointment with Lindsay (honestly Id bet every stylist there is awesome). Shes super sweet but best of all she listened to what I wanted and gave me the exact haircut I described. She told me what would work well with my hair but wasn’t pushing products on me and offered to trim my bangs in between cuts. I never write reviews but I was so happy with my haircut I had to give Lindsay at Oranj a shout out!

I have seen Cassandra twice now. The first time I saw her, I explained what was bothering me about my hair, and she texturized it in a manner that let me keep the length but fixed exactly what my issue was. Completely resolved it, actually, and gave me one of the best haircuts I have had in a long time!
A month later, though, I was having a hair emergency– I had been a hair model and I received a Joan Jett mullet that looked awesome on other people but looked terrible on me. I was pinning back my hair or wearing a hat ever day. So I booked my second appointment with Cassandra, and she cut me the cutest little bob I have ever had. I was a little shocked at first because I have never had my hair this short before, and it did take me a couple of days to adjust. But I have received so many complements and even been stopped in the street and asked who did my hair. It is really just a great, great haircut. I am so pleased with it, and I have fun styling it every day. Thank you, Cassandra. :)

My first time here was in February. I was immediately greeted with a Blue Moon and dazzled by the warm and swanky modern-​minimalist vibe the salon gives off. My stylist was Cassandra. She is warm, friendly, comforting and seemed to know exactly what I was asking for, even though I felt lost trying to describe what I wanted. It wasn’t like asking for help in a record store. I’ve been so relieved with every visit since. I find she’s been attentive and happy to consult with me, despite my fickleness, on even minor changes I’ve wanted to make with every appointment. Highly recommended!

I’ve been coming here since I moved to Portland and let me tell you how much I hate finding a new hair dresser.
It’s a painful process, one that I like to compare to the dating scene. You’ve heard from a friend of a friend that this person is fantastic and you finally decide to pull the trigger and go for it.
Worst case scenario is that you see them, chat, don’t feel any chemistry but you let them have a go anyway. You end of with a mess on your hands that will take you months to recover from.
In the best case scenario, you meet an awesome person, you connect, they get you, understands what you want and you have a long meaningful relationship plus a rad haircut.
Steven is great. My hair has been seeing him for the last eight months and I haven’t been happier.

I’ve been seeing Tamara now for 8 years, and I plan to continue seeing her as long as she’s in the business. She is sweet, engaging, funny, warm and incredibly talented. When I arrive, she hugs me and gives me wine. Who wouldn’t like that?
She’s also remarkably consistent; I’ve never had a bad haircut. She encourages me to try new things each time I go in, and I’m always pleased with the result. I’ve probably referred 20 people to Tamara over the years and they’ve all adored her and what she’s done with their hair. Oranj Studio’s services aren’t cheap, but you most certainly get what you pay for. Tamara vets her stylists and staff very carefully, and they’re worth every penny.
Getting my hair done at Oranj always feels like a mini-​vacation, rather than something I have to cross off my to-​do list. I look forward to it every time.

When I first made my appointment here, I was afraid that I wasn’t hip enough to get my hair cut here. I’m a 40-​something profressional who should pay more attention to her long locks than she does. In fact, my last hair color was 9 months prior and my last haircut was 5 months prior. I have a lot of hair that is slightly wavy. Whenever I get my hair cut it requires a lot, I mean a lot of texturing to make it look well kept. I came in for highlights (blond highlights hide the gray peeking out of my brunette head) and haircut. Steven did a wonderful job on my hair. Even though he looks incredibly hip, he is a boy from a small town near Portland. Hearing his small town roots instantly made me feel more connected to him and less like a square in a really cool salon. The full body massage chair at the hair washing station was way better than I expected. The prices, well, it ain’t cheap, but it is not the most I’ve ever spend on my hair. The phone appt and front desk staff were very friendly. While I have typically been a drifter when it comes to hair salons, I think I have found my home at Oranj with Steven.

This space is clean, contemporary & comfortable; hard to pull off in one space. I see Kevin & have to say he is brilliant! Having curly hair, it’s crucial to find the right stylist. I have followed him to a couple salons & am so happy he landed here. It’s cool to see South Waterfront coming along. Looking forward to the pedestrian bridge to make it even more convenient from SE Portland.

Steven gave my long, straight, fine hair the best set of layers its ever had. The whole staff was warm and welcoming from start to finish and even followed me out the door to wish me well on a job interview the next day. I came in as a hair model and left as a loyal customer.

I really like this place, the interior is modern but very comfortable. The massaging chair at the washing station is awesome! Lindsay did a great job on my cut and color. I’ll be back!

Tamara is GREAT! Nothing beats sitting back with a glass of wine at the end of a long work day, having a good conversation and then getting the best scalp massage EVER. I would recommend over and over. It will not be the most inexpensive option out there, but it is far from the priciest as well. Big thumbs up!

I started going here in the fall of 2010, hoping to find just the right local salon to keep my hair short and current. My stylist Lindsay is a really great girl, she does a great job, and I love going to see her. I also enjoy the atmosphere and spunki-​ness of the place, its fun to go there. It’s sort of pop-​minimalist-​modern. The chairs have a built in massage function that works its magic while you get shampoo’d and a scalp massage. I also like that I can get free trims in between cuts, that makes it more affordable to keep coming back.
