So delicious food ! Excellent service and friendly atmosphere. It reminds me of home, the balkan food is on point there ! I love all the different kinds of European beer and the hommade burek is incredible!

I have visited my family in Portland twice so far and and have come here both times and probably will the next. It is easily the best food in Portland in my opinion. The lady that runs the place is just a joy. So much fun. My brother and cousin had their meat sampler tray and were quite delighted by it. But as a vegetarian I found plenty of options for a good meal. I found this place online and my brother and cousin said theyd driven past many times but had never tried. I am so glad we got to.

This place deserves 5STARS, not 4. Food is DELICIOUS! This restaurant was introduced to me by a friend that loved ratings Balkan food when he was traveling in Europe and we tried this place awhile ago. Had forgot how good it is. Yumm!

We don’t get over here as often as we’d like… but this place is worth a cross Portland commute at rush hour. My wife lived in Bosnia for a couple of years and I brought her here on a date when they first opened. A cute Serbian Family runs the joint and makes the most authentic meat rich meals this side of the cold war… you must eat the Chevapi… pick up the sausage with the torn piece of that amazing bread… then dip it in the sour cream and ajvar(roasted red pepper spread) and dunk it in the raw onions… So yum!!! Seriously… One of Portland’s BESTUNKNOWNEATS!

Cozy atmosphere. Straight-to-the point yet warm service by the family who runs the restaurant. The food tastes very authentic, so I would suggest the cepavi or cabbage rolls. The best part was their bread, both«pita» and house bread. Both are spongy and flavorful. I really enjoyed my experience and plan to come again, not only to buy their bread, but to relax and read a book :)

Solid little place. The whole family works the kitchen, and the food reflects«that loving touch.» The goulash was one of the better state-side examples i have had, but i felt like it could benefit from a bit more paprika/tomato, as well. My friend ordered the pork kebab… which was perfect. It was moist, flavorful, and cooked well. The house salad was fresh and delicious, with a good mix of greens, olives, cheese and tomato. My only gripe is that parking is a nightmare(but it is 39th, after all). The food is filling and inexpensive, and it arrived quickly. Lastly, our server was fast and friendly. I’m guessing that he was the son of the man that cooked our food, too. In short, if you’re craving relatively quick, inexpensive food that cribs from a delicious mix of European and Mediterranean food, you need to eat here.

Lovely restaurant, pleasant people, great food! My husband and I went here mid-week with a serious craving. We happened to be the only diners for the first part of our meal, which is always a little awkward, and left us unsure if Unilocal had let us down. Then our spinach and cheese burek arrived. It was stuffed to the nines with the surprisingly flavorful mixture inside a delightfully flaky savory phyllo/croissant style dough. Anybody who likes cheese and flaky fatty goodness(and who in their right mind doesn’t?!) will love this. Then came the çevapi… Oh so juicy, springy, lightly charred and portioned well. They needed a sprinkle of salt, and after that the first few bites left me wanting for my garlic fetish, but like I said a few bites was all that lasted. Their çevapi is amazing and it happens to come with some truly phenomenal lepinji. It’s worth eating on its own it’s so good(spongey pocket bread). Just FYI Çevapi is a mixture of beef and lamb with garlic and mild seasoning, formed into tubular sausages and grilled. It comes with a side of chopped onion, sour cream and a simple red pepper coulis called ajvar. Overall we got two very large çevapi dinners, a huge burek, two beers, and left a generous tip for under $ 50. I ate my leftovers for lunch, and it tasted exactly as good as the night before. So good! I think it was an excellent value and will be back again soon!

Geez ! This place looks like a dive, however, once inside the aroma of Eastern European food permeates your taste buds. You have to know what to order. The quality of the meats, freshly baked tender breads, friendly service and just observing the local Czech and Hungarian clients eating there was superb. (I did not like the Hungarian goulash. I’ve never had it before; did not know what to expect. It did not agree with me and I did not like the flavor. This was not their fault; I just don’t like creamy sauces) I was not expecting this place to be so good. They have their own customer parking. The waitress does not speak great English but she understood our order well

The vegetarian options are pretty limited. I tried the bean soup and it was bland but pretty filling. It came with a small salad with olives and feta which was better than the soup. It was fresh and the olives were flavorful. Husband had the gyro, he said it was fine, but it had a ton of sour cream on it which he didn’t like. Overall it was an OK dinner, although a bit overpriced…

Excellent food! I am from Croatia so Bosnian food is very familiar to me, and this place has awsome, tasty Bosnian food. It is one of the best ones I have had in general, even back home. Chevapi are great, lepinja(the bread that comes with chevapi) is amazing, the sarma(cabbage rolls) are the best I have had in a long time and baklava is the best I ever had, I could not believe how good it is. I brought my family, who was visiting from Croatia, over to try it out, they loved it as well! The owners are super nice, they make a lot of those things from scratch and are really polite. Bonus for me personally is the wine from home and beer from Croatia and Bosnia. The only problem for us is that we live in Vancouver so we cannot go to that part of Portland very often, otherwise we would go there all the time.

I will second the«overpriced and underwhelmed» comments! Dingy ambiance, over-bright lighting & cranky put-upon waitstaff(pretty sure she might have been one of the owners). Although the chevapi and bread were tasty, there are far better dining experiences to be had in this amazing neighborhood. Pass.

Delicious Balkan food :) simple but sweet! I’m a half Bulgarian and became nostalgic of my home. Service great, very kind. The lady who served me tonight, I think she was the owner from Bosnia. I’ll be back here for sure.

Good gyros with lamb. Also, tried the spinach cream soup which was quite tasty, served with a piece of corn bread to collect all the creamy goodness. My friend enjoyed the grilled veggie plate, nice garlic sauce!

Overpriced and underwhelmed! Bit of a disappointment here which stinks because I was really looking forward to trying this out. Being vegetarian I was excited to see the«Vegetarian Options» banner painted right onto their façade. You would think this would be well thought out until you see the menu. Veggie options are actually very limited, and the banner is highly misleading. I would have kept the review at 3 stars were it not for that. You really cannot order a full vegetarian meal here. To be fair, Balkan food is heavy on meat dishes, so I was happy there were options at all. This is Portland though, and you have to adapt to the area you’re in, especially in SE. I opted for the burek special, spinach was the choice of the day. Burek for those not in the know is a Balkan specialty with flaky filo dough wrapped around various filings. Typically it is a breakfast item eaten with thin yogurt on the side. No yogurt here, and no side dressings typical of Balkan cuisine like Ajvar(eggplant and tomato spread) or kajmak(cheese spread) to go with it. At $ 8 is was way overpriced for a chunk of burek and nothing more. You can easily get a lot more for that money many places, they aren’t fooling anyone. It’s cheap to make. There’s plenty of positives to this place however. It’s very nicely decorated with great photos of Bosnia, and I did feel the owners were warm and friendly and very welcoming. The rest of the menu is great for meat eaters, with cevapcici sausages, and various combinations of salads and meats and stews. They also have a very good wine selection. Certainly worth a try for those who haven’t traveled to the Balkans or tried this kind of food before. Overall, not a bad experience, just not a good value for what I ordered. The owners are very nice people though and deserve your own experience and review. I will say, the Unilocal description of their restaurant needs to be changed and fast. They are neither Mediterranean nor Hungarian and it’s rather rude to those cultures and to Two Brothers for lumping them in just because there isn’t a specific category.

I researched some restaurants before going to Portland. This one had some great reviews. first time having this kind of food. We were not disappointed. The waiter was nice and explained the menu. We got the Mixed Grill. It was amazing. Plenty of food for two. The only down side was the small parking lot but it was not a huge issue.

The service was good and the corn bread and pita bread were tasty. I may not be able to appreciate this food since I don’t eat meat. They have vegetarian options, but they are limited. I would recommend the corn bread.

I used to live in Serbia and have traveled throughout the Balkans, and was excited to see this restaurant and share it with some friends. It’s been awhile, but thought the food was just as I remembered, and my friends, who’d never had anything similar, really enjoyed it. The ambience and service speed are pretty authentic too– it’s not fast food, so don’t go when you’re in a rush. We particularly enjoyed the burek and the baklava.
