Was ok, business sold recently. Lots of ingredients in the sandwich. Reviews are accurate; much better sandwich than subway at a slightly higher price. Much better value than any large scale corporate fastfood restaurant.

I was lucky enough to have the day off. So I headed over to my favorite to go place for sandwhiches. The place is under new management. The family that owns the place, is the same family that owns chucks donuts. I grew up at that place. The sandwhiches taste the same, almost slighty better. Cool thing is that they are also now serving vietnamese sandwhiches and spring rolls. Winning. Great service great food.

A great sando, though the place changed it’s name to Broadway Sub. I wasn’t sure where to put my review… so I put it in the brand new Unilocal page for Broadway Sub. Brief recap: bomb sando, great service, good prices. Eat here!

WOW!!! It’s now called Broadway Sub under new ownership. This place is AWESOME. You could pay the same amount and go to subway, or you can get fresh and handmade ingredients with a smile. Plus they have Dutch crunch rolls!!! They have a fun raffle, and are very customer service oriented. Highly recommended!!!

Really good veggie sandwiches. I ate lunch here twice. Service is very friendly and they put a lot of real, sliced avocado on my sandwich both times. I’d drive 10 miles out of my way to eat here over other popular chain sandwich places.

Amazing coffee and bagels. Will try their sandwiches next. Coffee was lovely. And seating was cozy and clean.

Ed’s Sub Center is the same as Sonoma Sub Bagels and Donuts(link to my review: ). There isn’t any signage for this shop, so you have to look for the address(unless you’ve been to Ed’s in the past, before they apparently changed ownership). I placed my order online by going through the Ed’s Sub Center website, and it was really easy to use since you could select any toppings you wanted(there is a large variety to choose from). I ordered: –Red October Sub(Roast Beef, Pastrami, Cheddar, Jalapenos, Onion, House Special Garlic Sauce, Special Dressing, $ 7.25, ): The Dutch Crunch they used was good, but they were skimpy on the meat. I usually don’t need a lot of meat in my sandwiches, but even I was wondering what happened to the roast beef and pastrami. They also needed to add more sauce to the sandwich, since it was a little dry. The bf enjoyed this sandwich, but I liked the hot link one more. –Hot Link Sandwich(w/Pepper Jack, Jalapenos, Onion, House Special Garlic Sauce, Special Dressing, on Dutch Crunch, $ 5.50, ): I thought this was a solid sandwich, but not amazing. Again, the Dutch Crunch was good, and I wish they used more sauce. However, the sausage was flavorful and cooked well. I would probably order this sandwich again. Overall, I thought the sandwiches from here were ok, but I think there are better delis on the peninsula to eat at. I wish I had a chance to try a sandwich from the original owners. In any case, I did like the online ordering system, which made ordering ahead simple. Downtown Redwood City is usually pretty busy, and it can be difficult to find parking even though there are a good number of metered spots available.

Before Ike’s started making it’s way into the peninsula, I think Ed’s was the clear king of sandwiches. Of course you have Heimerhaus, Sandwich Spot and a number of other choices but for price performance value and quality, Ed’s still holds it up there. The Italiano and Atomic subs on Dutch crunch are always awesome. Prosciutto, salami, cheese or Turkey, Pastrami and cheese are hard to go wrong with but you can always add bacon to make it even better. It has a very old school vibe to the joint but the food is what really stands out and what you should make your way here for.

A final sendoff for Ed’s Sub Center… After new owners took over a few months back, the changes to Ed’s were very gradual, and very minor. The sandwich menu is still exactly the same though they’ve added bagels and donuts to their repertoire. The name«SonomaSub» gradually worked it’s way in. It’s still a great place to grab a sandwich! It’s just not called«Ed’s» anymore…

Often when looking for a good Sandwich in Redwood City The Sandwich Spot is my regular choice but this is a good second. Inside is a fair size with some tables to eat along with a help yourself Coffee and Soda station. Staff are friendly yet wait times are fairly long(20 minutes for one order). The Sandwiches are large and one is way more than I can eat in one sitting. I am very predictable in my filling choice and the Turkey on Wheat with everything( ) really does mean everything! Most places put in Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickles and either Mayo or Special sauce. Ed’s puts in all of the above plus Jalapeños and Black Olives. The odd Jalapeño I can live with but I’m not a fan of Olives so ended up picking them out. The bread is fresh and all of the fillings plentiful and tasty. They also have a small selection of Donuts and Donut holes( ) which when I asked if they made them themselves I was informed they were brought in from elsewhere but wasn’t sure where from. Wherever they are from they too are fresh and tasty, not at all greasy. Conveniently location right on Broadway a few doors down from Youngs.

This place came in recommended by my coworker. This independent sandwich shop is pretty close to where I worked. It’s located in downtown Redwood City. This independent shop has decent amount of seating and the sandwiches here are extra large. I gotten a simple turkey sandwich on a Dutch Crunch bread. The sandwich here are very large and delicious. To make the deal sweeter, a purchase of any drink and the sandwich comes a free bags of chips. The sandwiches here are enough for two people. I ordered a 7 inch sandwich and this sandwich looks is almost a foot long. Though, if you are hungry enough, I’m sure you can scraf down it completely. Probably one of the things about sandwiches from Ed’s is their garlic sauce. Just lay it on thick on there and I’ll get seconds! —– + Pro: Great subs and garlic sauce. — Con: Street parking may be a little tricky for some people to find. (^_^) Overall: A delicious neighborhood Sub Shop!

Best sandwich place I’ve been to. All the ingredients, including meats, veggies, and bread are extremely fresh! They have many choices on the menu and all sandwiches are very reasonably priced. $ 5.50 for a 7″, $ 0.50 extra for cheese, or get a combo sandwich which contains one or meats and cheese for $ 6.50. They hook you on their homemade garlic basil sauce too. I add it to every type of sandwich I get, but I make them add double! I suggest you do the same. You will not be disappointed! Super friendly service as well. They learned my name after the first visit and have remembered it since. How good can this place be? I ate there 3 days in a row last week! ;)

I’d like to say that I’m still a fan of Ed’s Sub Center. They are still the best subs I can get in the area, second to none. But — ah the ‘but’ — the quality of nearly every individual element has gone down by a little bit since they’ve changed ownership. It looks like they are trying to pinch too much out of every penny, while expanding the business at the same time. It’s a slippery slope, and I sincerely hope they keep their footing. Things that have changed over the past months: 1) They are more frequently understaffed. Because of this you get longer wait times, and your subs may get more crispy in the oven since they’ll be unattended longer. 2) Staff is still nice but less approachable than the last. 3) Portions of meats and cheeses appear to be getting smaller and smaller. 4) Secret garlic sauce is less garlic-y. 5) Less TLC given in the assembly of every delicious sub. I’m nitpicking really; They are great subs, but they used to be spectacular subs…

I liked this place better when Ed ran the show. My go to would be the tuna on sourdough or dutch. The last two times I went I did not enjoy my usual order. Not sure why they changed the tuna but it’s pretty bad now. I had to actually add Tabasco since it was so flavorless. There goes my favorite sub here and the guy who brought some spunk to the place. Can’t stand it when ownership changes mean changes for the worse. The price hikes I can understand since things get more expensive but don’t change the taste of my beloved tuna. Either way, this place just isn’t the same. Off to find another sammy spot to swear by.

Ed’s is a solid sandwich spot that delivers pretty good value. I love«mom & pop» operations and wanted to rate Ed’s higher, but I have eaten here twice and found the sandwiches a little bland both times, despite the garlic sauce and peppers. I had turkey once a few months ago and tuna last week. I will say that the bread is fresh, staff is friendly, and the sandwiches are big. If the meat quality was a little better, this would be a slam dunk(even if they charged a smidge more). Given that Ed’s is walking distance from my office, I’m sure I’ll pop in again.

Maybe I am not being fair. Judging a place by to-go sandwiches right before they were about to close. From what I have tried so far, this place has potential. The flavors were there but neither the bread nor the quality of ingredients measures up to my favorite sandwich spots. Most of their bread were on the sweet side. Dutch crunch has a good crunch on top but the inside texture was too flat. The french roll was a bit too firm. The prosciutto and salami were way too salty.(I would stay away from their Italian sandwich next time.) The house special garlic sauce is not bad but nothing extraordinary. The portion of their sandwich is huge. A 6″ here is more like a footlong subway(in terms of size, not quality).

Ed’s Sub Center, it’s one of a kind. In an era of mass produced sub sandwiches, Ed’s beats them all with originality, quality ingredients, fresh veggies and fresh bread made the same day. The selections on the menu range from completely original to the usual suspects… turkey sub. One of my favorites is a turkey, cream cheese & cranberry sub with pesto & cucumbers. It is like Thanksgiving in a wheat roll anytime of year! Ed’s is locally owned and truly original. I walk past a Subway’s on my way there because Ed’s makes a great sandwich in 7″ rolls whereas it takes Subway’s a foot of very doughy bread to make a mediocre 12″ sub. Ed’s is truly worth the exercise to walk the extra 4 blocks. Ed’s also recently started offering breakfast bagels(starting @ 6am). I’ll be stopping by for a try. They have indoor and outdoor seating and they have a soda fountain as well as cans/bottles for people on the run. They recently added a flat panel TV on one of the walls, it really livens-up the place. I would recommend adding free WiFi and another TV for the other wall. It’s my go-to sandwich shop when I’m in the area and I’d highly recommend Ed’s.

I go to tons and tons of Giants Games. I always take a sandwich me to games. Ballpark food is expensive and a sandwich is the perfect ballpark snack, along with lots of beer. Before I head to a game, sometimes I grab my sandwich fix at Ed’s Sub Center. I always get the turkey sub, with cheddar cheese, all the vegetables on dutch crunch, with the garlic sauce. It is large and hearty sandwich and it seems a little bit bigger than most other shop’s basic size sandwiches. Overall, the place makes an average sandwich, it is nothing special, or out of the ordinary. Way better than Subway and a small step up from the Safeway deli near by. Ed’s has a pretty ugly and rundown looking interior. The place is a hole in the wall type of place. I give this spot 3.5 Stars and will return. The prices are decent for the big sandwich you get.

Too bad it wasn’t around when I used to work in the area because it’s the best sandwich in downtown Redwood City. You can get a big, FRESH sandwich made to order with their signature sauces and your choice of bread, 6 inches for $ 4.85. They also have 9 inch versions. Cheese is extra. It’s not a fancy sandwich shop but it’s good, really cheap, & way better than chain sandwich shops. There aren’t too many places where you can get a big sandwich for under $ 5. * Tuna salad sandwich($ 4.85): good soft toasted French roll, with garlic sauce, the tuna salad doesn’t have too much mayo and the veggies(shredded lettuce, pickles, onions, pepperoncini) were abundant, crunchy and fresh. The garlic sauce isn’t super strong like Little Lucca’s(I love garlic, so I love Little Lucca’s garlic sauce) but it’s still good. Good bread to fillings ratio. I’d give it four stars but I added an extra star for value. The décor is basic. There’s a soda fountain machine inside. I noticed that they start getting ready to close 15 minutes before closing time, so don’t plan on coming here at the last minute.

Wow, a Mom and pop store that can sell sandwiches that are cheaper than Big Chain store special deals? I am SOLD!!! Yum, I have ordered their pepper turkey and chicken breast on DUTCHCRUNCH roll! What makes them different? 1) Their dutch crunch is crunchy and sweet! 2) they give you ample amount of meat 3) their garlic, cilantro sauce!!! YUMYUM=) Tip: Order their special of the day, and you get approximately a footlong sandwich for less than $ 5 out the door!
