It seems this melt location is closed for renovations. No date listed for when they reopen.

The food is quite good and consistent here. It’s kind of what you’d expect. Free wi-fi too, which is a bonus. They close way too early during the week, though. For the foot traffic this area receives, it would be beneficial for this business to stay open a couple of hours on weeknights.

My sandwich was fine, but the girl at the register was a bit on the rude side so I deduct a star from the overall experience. The girl asked if I wanted chips or a pickle, so I asked which one would compliment the meal better, she just shrugged. So I asked if they had BBQ chips like they were putting on the sandwich I was planning on ordering, she said no… The meal ended up coming with both chips and a pickle, so I’m really not sure what our exchange was about, but such is life. I ordered«the special» which was billed as Aged Cheddar, Jalapeño, Bacon, Tomato w/BBQ Chips on Sourdough bread. If there was any Jalapeño in that sandwich I’ll be a monkeys uncle. There wasn’t even essence of Jalapeño flavor. The chips are very very thin and have almost no flavor. The sweet corn soup was pretty solid, but next time I’d get tomato. I’m convinced there’s something deep in my DNA that causes the happiest of thoughts when dipping a grilled cheese into tomato soup. My wife got the Italian Job and it was pretty solid, the Caesar salad was fine also nothing spectacular but not bad. I’d give it another go.

I was disappointed for several reasons and decided not to give The Melt Redwood City my business. Here is my reasoning: 1. Payday Friday my coworkers and I decide to get lunch together. Yesterday we decided on the Melt in Redwood City. There were 8 people in my group that were going to order. With everything, the order was over $ 100.00. As the Unit lead I called the order in(like we did quite a few times previously). I called three times before a person picked up the phone. The third time, someone with very poor customer service skills simply said ‚“No” when I asked to place an order to pick up. She said to use the App. I countered with, «I can order with the app, but you won’t make it until you scan the barcode on my phone.» I didn’t have that amount of time to wait on a 30 minute lunch. I explained that we had made phone orders before and the lady on the phone said, «it’s too busy right now». That is simply not an excuse and poor customer service. 2. Yes the Melt has an app. You place your order, pay, and the make the food when you get to the restaurant. Why have an app to order ahead if the food is not ready when you get there? That sounds absurd. I work in a job where we have 30 minutes to eat and then get back to work. Chipotle, Fare PDQ, even Wingstop have apps where you can order ahead and pick it up without having to wait. The Melt needs to rethink this. 3. Terrible customer service. The person that finally answered the phone after calling three times and being forwarded to voicemail was not equipped with the language skills to speak to customers. There was no greeting other than«hello». When I asked why they took phone orders in the past and not now, she replied that it was busy. I could hear that it was busy in the background. But she just lost her business owner a purchase over $ 100.00. Additionally, I will not frequent this business again. The food is good, but the service is terrible. I would suggest to the owner or manager that he needs to manage this business better and train his staff on how to deal with the public.

Tasty little sandwich for about $ 5. I got the Italian Job. Definitely tasty, but then you look over at all the other fast food options and for $ 5 you get more than cheese between two slices of bread. If I ever have a craving for grilled cheese, this is it, but I don’t think I’ll ever be back besides that.

I tried The S’more: Meh. The bread wasn’t grilled right(a little rubbery), and the fillings were too sweet and of low quality.

I had never gone to any of the Melt locations and while the concept is cool I left with a MEH! feeling. I wish there was a little bit more options and that the portions were just a little bit bigger. Felt like i was paying for an overpriced sandwich. I had a sandwich combo with chips and salad and it was 10.95 which didnt include a soda. Ended up paying 13 for just me.

American Grilled Cheese Kitchen in San Francisco is like The French Laundry of grilled cheese dishes. The Melt is like… its McDonald’s counterpart. When you’re a kid you generally put a couple slices of cheese, smoosh it between two pieces of white bread, then throw it in a hot pan with butter for a minute or two. Bam. You’re done. When you’re older you start… adding stuff. First it’s a tomato. Then it’s avocado. Then it’s goat cheese instead of cheddar with a fig jam and romaine lettuce. Or fresh pulled mozzarella with basil grown from your garden outside, some heirloom tomato slices, and a balsamic reduction. What I’m trying to say is, sometimes you just don’t feel like prepping and get fast food instead. This is that place. You want a grilled cheese sandwich with a couple neat fixings in it? Sure! Get caught up in the«egg in a waffle» though and you’ll be sorely disappointed. I ate it because why not. The lemonade was good enough, they had some fancy sodas, that’s good for them. But this will never, ever beat something you either make yourself, or what you can find at the AGCK in SF. It’s passable for«let’s get a bite before the movie because I don’t feel like paying more per ounce for popcorn than the world’s best filet mignon.»

Worst service on ever. Also the food is not that great and it is way overpriced. The cashier didn’t understand us when we were ordering. Our bill came out to $ 16 for 1 grilled cheese sandwich… when we clearly ordered 2 sandwhiches and two cups of soup. She then printed our receipt and I saw and tried to correct her… but she said the sale was final. Complete ripoff… go elsewhere.

They have improved so much since the first time I ever tried the Melt. The first time I tried them in Berkeley, they had predefined combos with limited options. They upped their game with options of salad, garlic bread, and meat toppings. Plus you can mix and match whatever you want for combo meals. It’s still pretty expensive for a grilled cheese sandwich, but it’s quick and tasty. TIP: round up your order to help end world hunger(FeelGood)

I just don’t get what the hype is at The Melt. I have tried many different locations and wanted to give them one more shot. When I arrived, there was only one other party and the employees were joking around by the soup containers. I decided to go with one of their«classics» called the MacDaddy(Bread, Cheese and Macaroni). I know there are very few ingredients, and I certainly was’t expecting a masterpiece. However, the prices are pretty steep, and I figured they would at least know how to make a good grilled cheese. While waiting, I saw the employee operating the cash register slap cheese slices and macaroni on some low quality white bread and throw it on their proprietary«grilled cheese presses.» Unfortunately, the bad news continued as I bit into the sandwich. There was certainly nothing special about the ingredients, and the sandwich was greasy, soggy, and tasteless. When I was leaving, I saw many families with young children coming in from the movie theater next door. I think this place is probably great for kids, but I certainly won’t be coming back for an extremely overpriced nasty grilled cheese.

I didn’t realize that this was a grilled cheese sandwich place. The sandwich was mediocre at best, they don’t have normal soft drinks and they took forever to prepare my order, even though I was the only person there and there were 3 employees. That being said, they double checked the ingredients on ALL the spices that they use to prepare sandwiches to make sure that nothing had garlic in it, and even offered me to see for myself — the only reason I’m giving them 3 stars and not 2.

I’ve always wanted to try The Melt for a while since I have a love for grilled cheese sandwiches. The Melt did not disappoint. I ordered The Italian Job with jalapenos. I’m afraid of jalapenos because I can’t do spicy very well, but this was just the right amount that I could handle. The sandwich was very delicious and I was surprised to see it was accompanied by potato chips! I’ll definitely come back.

The whole thing about gourmet items from childhood favorites is an enticing experience and also a nostalgic type of aww, memories. But it’s a very fleeting experience, and while the sandwiches tasted great, my expectations were not met. The cheese. Aged cheddar, aged Swiss, Pecorino. The cheeses are thick cut, flavorful and very good. I had the Shorty, which is on their menu under favorites. The shorty was composed of braised short rib, pepper jack cheese on a French baguette. The«braised» short rib was a pitiful offering to their arsenal of sandwiches. The meat tasted nothing like meat — absent was the chew of the meat(even braised you should be able to tell its naturalness). These short ribs were definitely too soft, almost gelatin-like in its texture. I shared the truffle pecorino with my colleague and while that was better than the shorty, this sandwich was missing an ingredient. On the menu, it says that it has fresh spinach in it but all we saw were dry herbs. The portion of the sandwiches are small. A good representation would be something like Sarah Lee bread loafs — the bigger loafs with better ingredients. I was not so concerned with the size as much as the quality of the ingredients. Cheese is hard to fail if they buy it from a vendor which is why I liked the cheese but it was really the lack of quality ingredients which got to me. The price is a bit high for a sandwich that’s the size of your palm. Very grown up prices that can cost you in the add-on’s. To really customize your sandwich, you’d be spending about $ 12 or so. You can get a power lunch for less than that. The overall look and feel of the sandwich is okay. It’s very simplistic in a box with a handful of Lay’s. I honestly do not see how the melt could ever be presented as gourmet, as their sandwiches felt and tasted below mediocre. They could have used fancier kettle chips or homemade kettle chips to add a bit of the artisan touch, even if just a little.

I wouldn’t say it’s the best, but far be it for me to say it’s terrible. It’s a pretty decent sandwich shop that comes a bit on the pricey side(especially for the portion you’re getting IMO). I worked in RWC for a bit, and I came here a few times because I was looking to try new things. well, their Italian Job and Sausage wasn’t really what I expected it to be. The sandwiches are over-seasoned and too oiled up for my taste.

These guys have been popping up everywhere. Not sure if it’s a good thing for business, but a grilled cheese and some soup is always good, especially on rainy days. I tried their breakfast sandwiches as well — it looks pretty, but tasted ok. Also a bit on the light side, because they cut out a hole in the bread to fit your egg in. Guess it’s nice to have one next to the theatre?

Been wanting to try The Melt in Burlingame for some time now, but was able to check the Redwood City location out while doing some Jury Duty in the area… Glad I did. They have several grilled cheese sandwich combos, of which I chose The Mission: Pepper Jack Cheese with chopped jalapenos on sliced sourdough — SCRUMPTIOUS! They season the bread well, butter it up, place it in their pannini-like grills, and wallah… Oooey-gooey cheesy goodness! I had their housemade Iced Tea(The Tea), which was good as well. You can really tell that they value their ingredients, and the quality of the drinks they sell… Couldn’t help but notice they offered 21st Amendment’s Live Free or Die IPA(my fav), but not a good choice when you are serving on a jury — don’t want to smell like beer when listening to a case. Next time… Definitely recommend this place.

I really like this place for what it is known for — which is grilled cheese. People may say it’s overpriced for something that you can make at home, but they have some creative combos here! Also, if you’re like me, I’m not about to go ahead and buy a loaf of garlic bread, tomatoes and cheese just to make one grilled sandwich and waste the rest. All i really want it just ONE. And I will forgive them for their mediocre tomato soup because it serves as an excellent dipping sauce for any of their awesome grilled cheese sandwiches. Plus this place is perfect for after a movie. My faves are the Italian Job & The Mission. I always put a few slices of tomato with that, too. Mmm… who can say no to gooey cheese?!

I’ve been wanting to go here for awhile and my husband has insisted that it’s not that great. Well, I got my wish and man! Was he right. I got The Italian Job and sausage and pepper soup. Mehhhhhhhhh! I make better grilled cheese sammiches for myself! The sausage and pepper soup tasted just like its name: ground up sausage with a ton of pepper. It wasn’t seasoned very well. THe customer service was on point, the menu is easy to read, we got our food quickly, but… I’m not a fan.
