Del Taco

MONDAY — JANUARY 18, 2016 @ roughly 1:50 p.m. … I stopped to grab a quick bite. While the place was VERY CLEAN and the «manager”(Mr. Cruz as I recall) was very cordial — my positive experience STOPPED after I ordered (TWO BEAN AND CHEESE BURRITOS WITH ‘SAUCE’). Actually the BEANS, CHEESE and SAUCE were all VERY GOOD TASTING. However, it appears they use a MICROWAVE to heat the TORTILLAS!
In any event I presume folks know what happens when TORTILLAS are «over-​heated» in a freaking microwave! They magically turn into a circle of ‘RUBBER’ that old people like me cannot penetrate if FALSE TEETH are involved! Sheesh! I have the nasty ‘store bought teeth’, but I imagine even someone with ‘the real deal’ would have been hard pressed to BITE through the HORRIBLE «RUBBER TORTILLAS»! Definitely RUINED the burrito!
Beans, cheese and SAUCE went ‘squirting’ everywhere — including on my SHIRT and PANTS! YES — I was eating my TRUCK, but that should NOT mean I get bathed in «DEL TACO TORTILLA AND FIXIN’S»!
I MUST rate the TORTILLA PREPARATION as a ZERO! There is NO reason to abuse a poor TORTILLA by subjecting it to massive amounts of MICROWAVES! The employee AND manager should KNOW THIS and avoid it at all cost! Mister Cruz (if I recall correctly) had a wall full of plaques showing he was a genuine «MANAGER» and had attended many «classes» to hone his skills. HE BLEW IT on «TORTILLA PREPARATION»! GROSS at BEST!
THE TASTE OF THE ‘fixins’ was admittedly QUITE GOOD, however, that did not make up for the TORTILLA DISASTER! FOOD TASTE = 4-​STARS… TORTILLA = 1-​STAR!
I WILL NOT EAT AT THIS DEL TACO unless I ask that the TORTILLAS be heated on the FLATTOP! NO MICROWAVE! PERIOD!

I used to love Del Taco for producing good food at a dirt cheap price. But after last night I think that cheap food isn’t always the best thing. After getting food poisioning from this place I dont think I can ever eat another chicken soft taco from this place again.

Every time I come here I hope that I can get the del taco quality that I know it can produce and that I’ve grown to love living in San Diego. Service is slow, employees are not so nice, and have an attitude of «I dont care». Food is generally cold, and that was no different tonight. Very disappointed!

Eat here once a week, never had a problem. Great food and everybody I’ve dealt with has been very friendly. Customer service is excellent and be food is a great value!

After a couple of additional visits I have lowered my rating from 5 to 3 stars. My order has been screwed up the last 3 times in a row. I’m thinking the nice girls they had working during the summer have all gone back to school. Just some unpleasant people that don’t know how to put 3 tacos and a churro in a bag now. Yikes.

I am a fan of Del Taco and I have been eating at their restaurants for 30 years. I have eaten at Del Taco all over the West Coast. I’d say I’m a pro when it comes to knowing their portions and food prep standards in general. But never have I had the unfortunate experiences that I’ve had at this one single location.
I’ve eaten at the Rio Rancho location a number of times. Not once has my food order been correct. Not once have the portions been consistent with other locations. Not once do I ever get extra cheese and added sour cream as ordered.
The food is also cold and tortilla shells for burritos and soft tacos are cold and hard.
I’d like to say that day time experiences at least come with food prepared at the proper safe temps but night is another story.
I have filed two complaints with home office so I hope that they take notice. It would help greatly if others did too.
The owners of this franchise obviously don’t care so perhaps the corporate offices will force their hand or end up losing their franchise flag. At this point, until I hear there has been change, I refuse to eat at this or the ABQ location. I hear they are the same owners.

Horrible food, tiny portions for the money, and staff that is completely inept. Avoid at all costs
