I’ve been here three or so times over the past year to have some pizza. It’s convenient to some of the sporting venues in the area. I’m usually of the mindset that even bad pizza is still good pizza. I’m starting to rethink that. I won’t call this bad pizza, but it certainly wasn’t good. Carbone’s pizza moved in here a while back from a location down the road and took over the pizza making duties. I have most definitely had much, much better Carbone’s pizza. It seemed weak all around. They had a three topping special for $ 15. I ordered sausage, pepperoni, and green olive. Toppings were scarce. I could barely even find a piece of sausage. Quite a thin layer of cheese. The crust was nice and crispy however. My honest guess is the cook wasn’t trained all that well. I say this because there were multiple spots on the pizza that had bubbled and the cheese had fallen off there, leaving just dry crust. Those bubbles need to be poked. Also, the sign out front said they were hiring cooks. Service has always been pretty lackluster. I’ve always had to ask for refills or another beer, ask for the check, and then track down the waitress to give her my card. All said and done, it is a VFW. I get it. It’s a beer hall. Beer prices are very fair. Lots of veterans in here playing cards. The patrons are always nice to my kids and have wonderful stories to tell. I just wish they had better pizza to tell those stories over.
