Chowder was off the hook as usual. Maryland crab cakes with a side of asparagus was very bland and boring. I liked how our server, Clint, recommended all the high-priced dishes on the menu first before actually placing an order. Service was ok. I’ve never had a bad meal here, maybe it was an «off night» for the Broiler? All-in-all is was an ok birthday dinner that I’d like to forget. Sad face.

Disappointed with lobster boil and service. Nothing more to be said other than bad on all fronts. Sad wanted this to be so right.

The service was so poor for a“high quality” restaurant. We we seated then waited well over 15 minutes for a server. When I finally called on over to get help, we heard all the servers fighting over who had to take the table. When we finally got a server assigned to us she was clearly not happy about an extra table and treated us as such until the bill came. That was when she Pretended to be nice. I am sure she suddenly realized it was tip time. I wont be back. Service is as important as the food.

We had a great experience last Saturday night at Market Street Broiler! We started off the night with Crab Stuffed Mushrooms that were so delicious! They tasted so decadent and I could have enjoyed several more and called it dinner! :) I know I should have ordered seafood, at a seafood restaurant… but I was really craving steak. I ordered the 9 oz. fillet with mashed potatoes. My husband went with the steak and Alaskan Snow Crab(a «Crabfest» special). I’m not a huge clam chowder fan, so I ordered the mixed green salad. The salad was good, but I was kicking myself for not ordering the clam chowder. It was amazing. I will be ordering the clam chowder next time for sure. My husband was impressed with his whole meal, and loved the Snow Crab. I ordered my steak medium, and it was served very, very pink. Not even medium rare. I always hesitate to send food back(you never know what is going to happened to it), but I took my chances and asked my steak to be cooked a bit more. The waitress was very accommodating and apologetic. My steak was returned to me on a nice clean plate with a full serving of mashed potatoes and broccoli(did I mention I had eaten half of them already?) included. The steak was fabulous! Over all our whole experience at Market Street Broiler was great. We went on a Saturday night around 6:00, and were seated immediately. You have the option of sitting downstairs at the counter, or upstairs in the dining area. We chose upstairs. It was very warm and inviting on a cold January night. We will be returning to Market Street Broiler again very soon!

I went here for lunch one day. It was Ok. I solid 3 star nothing bad nothing special. I got the mixed seafood salad sandwich. Now the price was ok. About what I would expect. And the sandwich was also ok. The bread is really good. It’s definitely the star of the show in my opinion. The filling on the other had left much to be desired. It was apparently Halibut, Shrimp, Crab, Celery, Mayonnaise and I literally think thats all they put in it. Completely lacking any flaver, too much Mayonnaise for my taste and everything was completely shredded to a pulp so the texture also wasn’t that great. The Sandwich came with fries, they were also pretty good. One of my friends says the Crème Brulee is amazing. If I had room for dessert I would have tried it. As far as service goes, it was a bit slow but overall alright.

So, with all the Unilocal-bashing this place gets, I often find myself defending Market Street. No more! The fish is relatively fresh, and competently prepared. Those are the NICE things I can say about market Street. The service is hit-and-miss, but usually passable or better. The more the menu changes, the more it stays the same. Even after all these years, you only get to choose between decent fries, flavorless boiled potatoes or super-bland white rice to accompany your entrée. You also get your choice of chowder or salad, which is good, but not good enough to overcome the other sides of the coin. They have very high quality beef, but they burn it on the outside and overcook it on the inside. It’s shameful! On our most recent visit, we had a coupon for a free birthday entrée with the purchase of another. The bill, for two of us, with one drink, was $ 70 with the tip. It would’ve been $ 95 without the coupon. The crab was mediocre, my filet was DESTROYED, the vegetables were SOAKED in butter. The food is edible here, but it’s way overpriced. I can get high-end sushi for these prices and I would leave the suhsi bar feeling a lot more fulfilled.

Old shrimp… I’ve been coming to Gastronomy restaurants for years, and sadly I won’t be back. I asked to substitute a small salad(and that I was willing to pay the difference) and was told that as a policy they didn’t do substitutions because people get«substitution happy». Really? So I change my order. The seafood salad shrimp was rubbery & smelled bad– even the manager agreed. I don’t know if the server was mad & purposely gave us bad shrimp but it was disgusting. The table next to us was given the wrong entrée, and we over heard the women next to us complaining about their lunch too. I don’t know what happened, but this restaurant isn’t what it used to be. Save yourself the disappointment(and cost!) and in this case don’t risk the possibility of getting food poisoning via old seafood — go somewhere else.

Four stars simply because of the service. We always make it a point to sit in Becca’s section because she is a very good server. We come here for the oysters, one of the only places in Utah where we have found Kumamoto’s. Prices can be steep but they do not charge a corkage fee so we always bring our own wine.

Spoke with HR in length about the issues going on with various locations of Gastronomy. She listened and took note and hopefully it will return to the consistently good places they once were known for. I have been a long time client and fan because I knew that my meal would always be good but with recent changes, the staff has been keeping up. Had dinner and the manager was night and day with his personality, very welcoming. Sat on the beautiful patio and spent almost $ 100 bucks on the 2 of us, half of that in cocktails. Calamari is always good. Stuffed tilapia, rich and divine. Halibut sandwich was aweful, fried patty what my boyfriend said was like hardees. I was expecting a grilled piece of halibut but we got a fried puck, it could have been chicken for all we knew. Oh well, small steps. Service was great although he kept forgetting things but he seemed nervous which my bf says I can do to people, sorry

The Crème brûlée is so good. I have been here a few times just for the Crème brûlée. At the my last visit the server seem to overlooked my guest and I because we only ordered dessert. I waited 20 min for the check. At my last visit I sat at the counter and server was not friendly. Dessert is great but the staff was not friendly.

Market Street has always been VERY hit and miss. I have come here and had absolutely horrendous meals, and I have come here and also experienced very good food. It all depends really on a few variables, Mainly what time of year it is and just how fresh the shipment of fish is. If I was going off a food alone, I would rate Market Street a solid 3.5, but because of the patio I have to tack on an additional star. The patio(located in the front of the restaurant) is extremely quaint and pretty, yet doesn’t feel crowded in the slightest. During the late spring and early summer(late May/early June) you must eat outside here. The entire restaurant’s atmosphere is really very cool because it is an old fire station. In fact it is a Utah historical sight for that very reason. While the inside is nice, it really can’t compete with the patio which is surrounded by trees strewn with white Christmas lights. It is one of the best places to eat, location wise, because of this. Moving on to the meal. Four of us came here for dinner tonight. We were originally going to try the Greek restaurant, Aristo’s, which is 3 buildings down from Market Street, but they were closed for the Memorial day holiday. Anyway, we were seated very quickly, after explaining to the hostess we didn’t have a reservation. Our waitress was extremely professional and attentive during the meal. She started us off with a complementary serving of bread and butter. The center of the bread was very good but the crust was hard, to the point where we could not eat it. We started off with two different appetizers the crab cakes and the spinach and crab artichoke dip. The crab cakes were pretty good, but that’s about it. I really liked the spinach and crab dip. I was a bit turned off at the texture, initially, but after a few solid bites I realized it was actually quite good and the chips that came along with it were awesomely flavorful. For dinner I started with a caesar salad. The salad was very crisp and fresh tasting, and they did a nice job at using grated parmesan cheese. I was pleasantly surprised, considering I typically find the salads here to be very run of the mill. Whatever the case, they really delivered this time. The main course was salmon with my choice of side and green beans. I chose the french fries, although there were many different options I cannot recall. The presentation was excellent, and the salmon was perfectly proportioned. The green beans, were nondescript and I really didn’t care for them. There was no seasoning whatsoever. The french fries were DELICIOUS. In fact they were the best I’ve had in a long time. I appreciated the fact that they brought out half of a lemon with the fish. The combination of the lemon juice and the fish was killer. This was no where near the best salmon I’ve ever had, but I was again pleasantly surprised. It was light and fresh. I also tried some of my brother’s halibut and mashed potatoes, which were thoroughly enjoyable. For dessert we ordered ice cream, a fruit tart and crème brûlée. None of these desserts quite matched the greatness of dinner, but they were a nice end to a fantastic meal. Overall, I was very satisfied with the dinner. My only hope is that they can continue on this level of quality, it’s hard to give Market Street a 4 star rating, simply because they fluctuate way too much but the combination of the location and the outstanding food redeems them quite a bit from my last experience. *My only warning is to be wary of the prices, as imaginable by the time it was said and done our meal was only a bit shy of $ 200.

Disclaimer: I have never eaten here on my own dime. That said, isnt everything better when it is free? Even with free Market Street Broiler only gets a 3 star from me. I do admit that the crab I had was amazing. But everything else I have eaten is just as good at other places for half the cost. The atmosphere is pretty good. We have always had pretty good waiters. So that is why I am giving it a pretty good raiting. My opinion? Overpriced and overrated. One other thing that really bugs me is that they will not seat you until your entire party is there. We had reservations. 15 people were coming. We were missing one person and they wouldnt seat us. We all just crowded the bar area waiting for the one missing soul.

I don’t really like writing negative reviews. I much prefer to stick to the positive. I also don’t like the idea of ruining someone’s business. With that being said, Market Street has crashed and burned. And if they weren’t gouging people for 20 to 30 per plate and up, I wouldn’t say a word. Not just bad… but horrible. Yes horrible. I couldn’t overcook fish and shrimp and make it less flavorful if I tried. All three of us were furious by the time we left. And to top it all off we got dead dry chocolate cupcakes at the end– that were ten steps below a grocery store cupcake. And more shocking was the restaurant was full on a Monday night? I am baffled beyond belief.

So this one’s a Broiler and not a Grill, okay. I had takeout from MSB for lunch today. The fish tacos had a generous amount of shredded fish and a nice fat slice of avocado. One thing that annoyed me was when I was putting in my order I asked if the tacos came with«rice or anything like that» and she said«yes I’ll just put it on the side». What I got was a little side of rice and was charged $ 3 for it, putting my meal from the $ into the $$ category.

I’ve been going to the various Market Streets for as long as I could remember. It has always been my dad’s favorite restaurant. And for a while, I really liked it too. But then I went away for a few years and ever since I’ve been back in Salt Lake(2.5 years now), it just seems incredibly overrated. Last time I was there, we were celebrating a dear friend. It was Wednesday night, and we had a large group(10), but he had made reservations. We got seated somewhat promptly, but it went downhill from there. Our server was attentive, but the kitchen was sloooooow. We ordered apps and they were all good – crab cakes, stuffed mushrooms and the artichoke dip. For dinner I ordered the capensis stuffed with artichoke and crab and topped with hollandaise. It came with fries and a vegetable. My husband ordered the cioppino. I didn’t try anyone else’s food so that’s what I’ll be reviewing. But first. The dinner didn’t come until after the appetizers were gone. Long gone. After maybe 12 – 15 mins the people who ordered chowder/salads got theirs. Which is ridiculous considering the effort to make them(none) and the fact that only half our group got them. Also, one of our group just ordered salad and chowder for dinner. The server brought them both out at the same time, and at the same time that everyone else received their salad. I thought that was weird because then she had to sit and watch us eat dinner later. At the very least bring one out early and one out with dinner, right? Anyways, our entrees came out 10 – 12 mins AFTER the soups/salads. The hollandaise on top of my fish was completely BAKED. It was no longer a sauce. It had clearly been sitting under some heat source for some time. The taste was ok. Kind of bland really, and the fish was waaay over done. Granted I have never ordered capensis so I didn’t really know what to expect on that end. My husband’s cioppino was disgusting. Every single piece of fish in there was over cooked and chewy. And the broth tasted like it came out of a can. Blech. Everyone else seemed to like their food, but our friends’ dad was paying so who knows if they were just being polite(we were). This type of thing doesn’t seem to be the exception for Market Street. Lately, every time I’ve gone I’ve been severely disappointed with the disconnect between their menu descriptions/prices and the quality of food. The broiler is quite close to where I work, so I tend to go there often with colleagues, but from now on I’ll strongly be suggesting Aristo’s or Indochine, OR I’ll just order the chowder. I have to say, Market Street still makes a mean chowder.

The Home of Superball Shrimp Scampi. These guys know how to dress and act like they know what they are doing, but they absolutely murdered my daughters shrimp scampi(it should have come with a treadwear warranty and free rotations for life). No way was it fresh and it tasted like the hairless ape in the kitchen just popped in the microwave. In town from Portland, ate there Sat the 7th(recommended by the University Guest House,), and it looked promising with the fancy bar and lots of fresh food in the deli case. While enjoying my 3.2% beer, I noticed that my daughter was having a hard time with her shrimp scampi and i thought it was due to her braces. Ha, joke was on us because when i tried to eat one of her shrimp, i could not get through it. They were more like a dog treat or chewy than a fresh cooked shrimp. We just laughed, paid, and left(daughter did not want me to make a fuss). If my daughter was not there, i would have asked the server to try to eat them and invited the cook to do the same — probably some tatoo covered wanna-be badass who everyone is afraid to point out has no talent. ALLSHOWANDABSOLUTELYNOGO — these guys could fuck up a one car funeral. Too bad, nice looking place — just needs to go back to starting with a great product.

I’ve been here twice. The first time, for an AWESOME breakfast: fresh squeezed OJ, very attentive waiter, etc. Sat near the bar. That day? 5 stars. However, the second trip, June 30, was a bit of a disappointment. First, the menu isn’t kind to those who are not pescatarian fans. And, I don’t eat fried, cheeses, etc. So, this left me with few options, and I opted for a burger! No bun(wheat intolerant). Burger was… okay. Nothing special. Came with fries or tomato slices. I ordered the fries, tried four, and gave the rest to my dining partner.(I know! I don’t eat fries!) They are different, these fries. Battered before fried? Why four? I couldn’t figure it out — what IS this odd flavoring? Anyway, attentive waiter, almost too much. I mean, he just left the table, and turned around and asked us before he took three steps if everything was okay — AGAIN. But, the stars really aren’t just about the food — the place was dirty! The floors and walls — in fact, I’ll upload photos of the filthy white beadboard half wall that was near our table. It took away an appetite one may have had. And, what’s worse, it made me wonder about the kitchen. If the area I can SEE is this nasty, what about what I cannot see? Hmm? As I was leaving, I looked for a manager or someone at the entry greeting area to let them know that a little bit of cleaning is in order — but no one was there! I understand there are two SLC locations. I’ll try the other — for breakfast, and if the walls are dirty, I’ll just leave before I order.

Once upon a clam … Maybe. No more, no how, no way. Say Shaudair, Frenchie, then go somewhere else. Market Street has humped the shark. From the faux nautical ambiance to the wildly over priced food, this joint floats on its history, and it goes down like a hard backed copy of Moby Dick. Seriously, why is the salmon stuffed with crab? And who pays $ 22 for Cajun seafood pasta without eating it off of Emeril’s coffin? Lazy food, sloppy presentation, fishy prices. Arrrr, she blows!
